"Ghosting" with 24p cam footage exported to .mov

I have a Sony HVR-A1U camera and I shoot everything at 24p. When I export the move files in imovie they always come out "ghosting" or looking jagged...anyone know what i have to do to fix this? also...this happens in every quality...except when i do cdrom...i cant see it then..but in full quality its definitely there...

Try exporting using 640x480 with square pixels.

When you converted the original files via MPEG Streamclip, what did you convert them to?
Have you tried trashing your preferences in FCP? Trashing FCP prefs is usually the first step when FCP is performing strangely.
Download Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion (free) at:

  • CS 6 audio sync issue with 24p P2 footage.

Just upgraded to PP 6 from 5.5. With P2 720p24 footage that worked in 5.5 the audio does not hold sync in PP6. This includes playing the source or in a sequence. It is very far off appearing that the audio is playing at 29.97 and the video playing at 23.976. Footage shot at 29.97 stays in sync.
    Ideas?

  • Bird box camera footage - Export question

Hi all, I have just got a bird box camera and recorded a lot of footage of birds. I am now in the process of editing the nest box footage with Premier Pro. My question is, what is the best format to export to the web? The footage is excellant and around 10MB. Ideally, I would like the footage to be viewed on most browers. I have tried AVI, MPEG etc. Shall I be looking at flash streaming instead. Hopefully, with the correct format, most people can view my nest box footage without any problem. Please can anyone advise. JF

Flash seems to be the number 1 choice, followed by WMV (not easily viewed on MAC's).
It was raining cats and dogs when the two friends, that were playing golf arrived at the 14-th hole. One said to his friend: "Look at that bird-watcher over there. Can you imagine bird-watching in this kind of wheather?"

  • Working with Red camera footage

I brought a frame from some Red footage into Photoshop CS6, and I used the Spot Healing Brush to paint out something.  I added something else back to that frame, now need to bring that footage into After Effects CS6.  When I bring in the resulting PSD into AE, the color is completely wrong.  There is no option to Export or Save as REDCODE RAW, so...... ?

I would check on the Red forum for color settings for your workflow.
The other option would be to transcode the footage to something other than RedCode RAW and go from there with a different color space.

  • 24p users? or anyone with 24p knowledge

I am considering switching my Nikon D40x for the new Nikon D3100 that autofocus video, BUT it shoots 1080 24p not 1080 30p! I know people were waiting for the 24p, but now I am confused. If you shoot 24p, can you in imovie:
    1. Combine footage or must you stay with 24p.
    2. export to other formats such as 720
    3. 24p vs 30p....how does it handle? Is it harder to work with?
The Canon does 1080 30p, but its manual focus. I am not a professional here...I mostly take family stuff. The cost to move to the d3100 isn't bad since I already have lenses.

Sheryl, OK Here are my tests.
First, here is some [24fps 320x240 from Kodak Z760 rendered in a 24fps iMovie 11 project.|http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcJrvH7SFr4] iMovie rendered this at the Mobile preset.
Second, here is [30fps 1080i AVCHD and 18 fps 1080P Motion JPEG from 8MM film on the same timeline, rendered at 1080P at 30 fps.|http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfKGtRhwjmQ]
    Finally, here is a kitchen sink timeline. [30fps 1080i AVCHD, 18fps 1080P Motion JPEG (from 8MM film), 30 fps 640x480 AIC from VHS, 30 fps 640x480 DV, 30 fps 720P from a Kodak Z812IS, 24 fps 320x240 from Kodak Z760.|http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VF0QJv3RHJM] Rendered in 1080P at 30fps.
There is another level of testing that I do not have the equipment to do:
    1) 24fps in HD
    2) Is there a difference between true 24fps, and 24fps that is achieved through 3:2 pulldown?

  • Hi. Quick question I am working with Panasonic GH3 footage and it is playing back in slow motion?

Hi. Quick question I am working with Panasonic GH3 footage shot using .MOV wrapper with their IPB 50mbps and All-Intra 72MBPS codecs and they are playing back in slow motion in Sg CC. The footage works fine in PP CC and I have no clue on how to fix it. Is this a bug or do I a have a setting wrong some place?

Yes it turns red this is silly PP and AE have no problem with playback for these codecs. So it is indeed Sg not handling the codec correctly and not my system?
What if I transcoded it to something else other than the previous what would you reccommend?
I was going to transcode to ProRes but 5DtoRGB does not work on Windows with GH3 codecs.
What is the correct time warp seting under clip properties? I screwed with it and forgot the default setting.
Is there a way to reset Sg back to defaults settings globaly. I tried to many settings trying to fix the playback and may have left something in the wrong state.
    Thanks...

  • Importing "24p Cinema" footage from Canon AVCHD camera ?

    Hi all,
I have bought a CANON HFS10 Vixia AVCHD camera, I`ve made some footage using the "24p cinema" mode.
When using media browser in PPCS5 and importing it, it still indicates (like in CS4) under "properties", that the footage is "29.97 fps", as CS5 is compatible with this camera specifically, shouldn`t CS5 indicate something like "24 cinema Canon mode" or so ?
It`s my understanding that the Canon camera produces a 24 fps footage "wrapped" in a 29.97 container; it`s also my understanding that, as CS4 is not compatible with this camera, it looked ONLY at the wrapper and said under properties "29.97 fps", that sounds reasonable for me.
But what about CS5 ? How do I know if it is really "seeing" the 24p footage wrapped in a 29.97 fps wrapper if it still says "29.97 fps" ? Will it perform the editing and exporting correctly even though ?
    Thank you very much,
    RK

I was wondering though.....shouldn`t I just NOT DO Anything ?
Well, that would be ideal... but you know how THAT goes
There`s an Adobe document at its web site talking specifically about the
Canon cameras, it mentions specifically my camera and the so-called "24p
    cinema" format.
Can you post a link? I'm just curious what it says. The biggest issue is that Canon actually has (at least) two different 24p "formats," and your camcorder records to the not-so-easy-to-deal-with version. It's what Canon deems "24pf," which means that it records 18 progressive frames and 12 interlaced frames, but it doesn't flag which are which, so programs that are not able to determine the pulldown cadence can't remove the necessary frames to create a true 24p clip. After Effects (and a number of other methods) can determine the cadence, but that's an extra step, obviously.
It says that I can use Media Browser to import the files and...that`s
all, it doesn`t go any further. The option Interpret footage -> remove
pulldown is greyed out for me (?)
Yeah, that makes sense, given the above. Do you have a really short clip you wouldn't mind uploading somewhere for a test? I can't find one anywhere online...
I wonder if I could just edit it normally (labelled as 29.97fps
though..) and export the timeline as 23.976p....?
Which results would I achieve ? I`m trying to avoid  spending some
    expensive blu-ray medias doing tests;
You could, technically speaking, but aesthetically, you'd be pretty displeased with the results. The export process isn't any smarter than the import process, so unless you do the necessary steps, you won't get a good, clean 24p encode.

  • Is there any easier way to edit imovie files that have been exported as mov file then added to FCE 4?? As every move I make has to be rendered and takes forever??? Also my recording is going out of focus without me touching the camera, why has this happen

Is there any easier way to edit imovie files that have been exported as mov file then added to FCE 4?? As every move I make has to be rendered and takes forever??? Also my recording is going out of focus without me touching the camera, why has this happened any idea what causes this??
    iMovie '08, Mac OS X (10.5.8), FCE 4

My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

  • Poor quality when exporting to MOV (H264/AAC) with CS5 and CS5.5

    Hi there,
I need to export my HDV sequence (1440*1080 Pixel 1,33 25fps) using HDV footage only to MOV format (with H264 / AAC codecs).
I'm using 1024*576 (1.0) SD preset with a correct video bitrate CBR 6mbs and the Quality is awful.
When I use the H264 format ( to get a .MP4 file) with the same preset (1024*576 square pixel >> CBR 6mbs) the quality is quite good. I 'm pretty happy with that. The only thing is that my client (TV) needs the clip in MOV format (including H264/AAC codecs) and the quality is awful. They expect me to use FCP as most of the journalists here in France use this application.
    I tried with PREMIERE CS5 on a PC (windows 7 64 bits) >> 8G0 RAM, Dual Core
and with PREMIERE PRO CS5.5 on a mac
Same awful result when trying to export to MOV (H264/AAC).
I heard that PREMIERE can't properly export to this format? Is this correct? If so, i need to convince my client to use only MP4 (H264/AAC) files since I don't really wanna use Final Cut Pro or Media Composer to edit and export my clip.
    Any tips ?
    Thanks guys.
    Julien

I had similar quality issues exporting H264 from PPro vs. Avid Media Composer.  CHeck out this thread link http://forums.adobe.com/thread/854379?tstart=0.
I found it pretty helpful, it also links to another reference thread.
I think it's possible, but will take a bit of trial and error.
    Good luck

  • Best Settings for Exporting DVD Footage in a Movie File

    Hello,
I've been trying to find the best settings for exporting DVD footage into a movie file from Adobe Premiere CS6.
I recently have been using my Magnavox DVD recorder for recording VHS tapes that I made long ago for shows and various other things, and no matter what, my footage doesn't come out as it needs to be.
Here's an example of what I did recently with my own settings:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFV4sT7rHGs
I'm not expecting HD footage, I know these are tapes, but I'm playing the raw footage on my Xbox 360, and it looks better than this. I had to directly use the VOB files on the DVD for this, as trying to rip the files into an AVI or any other format with a DVD ripper didn't do anything, in fact it degraded the quality and made the audio not play in Premiere.
So what would be some good settings for exporting a sequence with DVD footage that is from a VHS into a movie file, preferably one that wouldn't degrade the quality?
    Thanks!

First, read Why not edit mpeg http://tangentsoft.net/video/mpeg/edit.html to get a general idea of why a VOB makes a very poor source file (which is a renamed MPG, with some other stuff like menu screens)
Also, Read Bill Hunt on editing a VOB/MPG file http://forums.adobe.com/thread/464549
Once you have a DVD compliant VOB on your timeline, and understanding that a standalone DVD recorder sometimes plays fast-n-loose with "compliance" per the DVD specification, about all you can do is export to standard or widescreen DV AVI and accept the fact that re-encoding an already compressed file is just not going to give great results

  • Audio lag when exporting 90min HDV footage as QT movie via FCP6

Hy Guys I desperately need your help!
Ive exported a 90min QT movie from an 1080i50 HDV project in FCP6 & found that the audio progressively "lags" as the clip plays.
At the start of the clip the sound is in sync with the video but by the end it lags nearly 15 seconds behind the video!
The footage had captured perfectly & everything works fine in the timeline & is rendered properly.
I've checked everything I can think of (settings on timeline are the same as the export settings - audio rate is 48KH, 25fps in both etc (I'm based in the UK)but getting no joy at all.
Initially I exported the footage using the "export quicktime movie" option, set to "use current settings", as a "self contained movie", & un-checked "re-compress all frames" option.
(The intention ultimately being to import the file into Compressor 3 to produce M2v/Ac3 files & then import them into DVD studio pro to produce a PAL anamorphic 16:9 SD-DVD.)
Since that didnt work however, Ive tried all sorts of different settings for both timeline & QT export - the only thing I havent tried is exporting it totally uncompressed (should I use 8bit or 10 bit??).
I'm a bit wary of that as It will take 12-14hrs to do so & use up an awfal lot of space.
The footage itself is of an action horror feature - so LOTS of quick cuts, whip pans & transitions.
I'm using a brand-new rented Mac G5 so I have no idea what drivers of service packs have been added - but i think its pretty well serviced (its VERY stable).
I'd be really grateful If you can get back to me with a solution on this as - no joke - my Job relies on this getting solved PDQ !!!!
    Many thanks
    Mike

Exporting a self contained Quicktime movie does not cause any compression to the actual images.
When using QT movie export FCP copies each frame of your finished movie and create new ones out of any transition between original media.
Editing HDV can require extra time indeed as it needs to be conformed after you finish. I would try to send the movie straight from the timeline once rendered. If you want to check out the result why not copy a portion of the edit on a second identical sequence and send it to Compressor.
Testing is always a crucial part of the process.
    G.

  • How do I move photos around that I took with the camera?

Alright I have a bunch of photos in the "Camera Roll" that I took with the camera phone.
It defaults to the Camera Roll folder, but how do I move them to other folders on the phone?
Can I do multiple pictures at once?
Or do they have to be moved one by one?

If you disabled the Camera & Scanner Wizard from launching automatically when a digital camera is connected - when your iPhone includes photos that were captured by your iPhone or when photos are available in your iPhone's Camera Roll, the iPhone is also detected as a digital camera when connected to your computer - you can try this.
