GI+ASM+DBMS+DB cloning

Hi.
I have 1-node RAC 11.2.0.3 deployed on OL5.11 with test DB in ASM (3 x OCR_VOTE disks, 2 x DATA disks, 2 x FRA disks).
The aim is to create new cluster using the current cluster as a master and to get DB through ASM disks cloning.
As for http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/rac.112/e41959/clonecluster.htm#CWADD92122 and "HOW TO CLONE AN 11.2.0.3 GRID INFRASTRUCTURE HOME AND CLUSTERWARE (DOC ID 1413846.1)" it is necessary to:
prepare node
deploy GI
run clon.pl
run config.sh
Steps 1 and 2 in my case were replaced with:
creating a master node as for docs (direct deleting cluster configuration and other files vs. deleting on copy).
cloning disks and virtual machine
changing relevant names and IPs
I was successful up to "run config.sh". But running config.sh I got:
[FATAL] [INS-40401] The Installer has detected a configured Oracle Clusterware home on the system.
Any ideas? comments?
Thank you in advance for your valuable time.

Problem solved.
Environment:
VirtualBox.
Linux 5.11
1-node cluster with ASM (11.2.0.3)
DBMS (11.2.0.3) installed
1 RAC DB created.
Disks in ASM:
sharable 3 x ocrvote
sharable 2 x data
sharable 2 x fra
1. Create pfile for DB.
2. Stop all RAC services, disable crs.
3. Delete files as for official docs.
4. Clean OS files: logs, tmp, etc.
5. Detach GI home
6. Detach DB home
Now we have master node.
1. Clone VM (or disks).
Now we have first node for new cluster.
1. Prepare table of conversion: IPs, names.
2. Register IPs, names in DNS
3. Start cloned host.
4. Change IPs, names in OS.
5. Delete and create ssh, establish ssh equivalence for grid and oracle users.
6. Redefine ASM disks assignments.
7. Run clone.pl as GI user.
8. Run root.sh as root.
9. unlock GI.
10. Move or delete ocr.loc.
11. Run config.sh.
12. Check cluster configuration.
13. Check ASM.
14. Change scan name to new one.
15. Resolve multicast (if necessary)
GI is ready.
To prepare RAC DBMS.
1. Run clone.pl.
2. Run root.sh.
3. Modify DB registration.
4. Add instance.
5. Modify tnsnames.ora with new scan  name.
6. Modify created early pfile with new scan name.
7. Start DB from pfile.
8. Modify remote_listener. Create spfile.
9. Start DB.
10. If necessary it is possible to change DB name, DBID, disk groups names.
You are welcome to new cluster and new RAC DB .

  • ASM, RAC instance cloning

    Hi,
    Can you advice for cloning ASM, RAC EBS R12 instance , For lesser cloning time, is Snapshot mirroring or BCV copy of ASM, RAC instance of 20 TB in size is recommended?
    Can we have BCV copy of it's replication used for faster RAPID cloning..Is there any white paper available for same.

  • Cloning 11i non split to split configuration with RAC and ASM

    Hello Hussein,
    I just want to ask some ideas on what is the best way to clone our UAT/DEV environment to our PROD environment.
    Right now no RAC and ASM setup for the source system still 9.2.0.5 but the plan is to convert to ASM + 10g RAC.
    Can you please let me know on what is the best way to setup PROD out of our UAT environment?
    Here's my options:
    1. Install a fresh prod system
    2. Convert source system to ASM + RAC before cloning to target - setup as below:
    (Source)
    APPS server - 32bit
    DB server (2 node RAC + ASM) - 32bit
    (Target)
    APPS server - 32bit
    DB server (2 node RAC + ASM) - 64bit
    3. Clone existing target system (non RAC and non ASM)
    copy source APPL directories to target
    Install 64 bit Oracle 10g to the target system
    clone/convert database source (9i 32bit) to database targer (10g 64 bit) using RMAN.
    Install clusterware 11gR2
    Convert database to RAC
    Can you please let me know on what is the best approach to do this? For fresh install it will take some time to apply the current patch level and applying other patches.
    For Option 2, seems a bit complicated to do 32bit - 64 bit cloning on RAC. Appreciated if you can provide doc id for this.
    For Option 3, not sure how smooth the conversion from 32bit to 64bit.
    Appreciate your insights on this.
    Regards,
    jeffrey

    Hi Jeffrey,
    Since you are on 9.2.0.5, I assume you are running Oracle Apps 11i and not R12.
    1. Install a fresh prod systemThis option requires applying all patches (as you mentioned above) plus you will have to convert to ASM/RAC on the source/target instance. I would not recommend this approach since would require extra work/time.
    2. Convert source system to ASM + RAC before cloning to target - setup as below:
    (Source)
    APPS server - 32bit
    DB server (2 node RAC + ASM) - 32bit
    (Target)
    APPS server - 32bit
    DB server (2 node RAC + ASM) - 64bitWhat are the source and target database version?
    As per (Certified RAC Scenarios for E-Business Suite Cloning [ID 783188.1]) this is supported by Rapid Clone. So, in this case you need to convert the source instance to RAC and migrate to ASM then use Rapid Clone to clone the application/database.
    Cloning Oracle Applications Release 11i with Rapid Clone [ID 230672.1] -- 6. Cloning a RAC System
    You will have to convert the target database then from 32-bit to 64-bit.
    3. Clone existing target system (non RAC and non ASM)
    copy source APPL directories to target
    Install 64 bit Oracle 10g to the target system
    clone/convert database source (9i 32bit) to database targer (10g 64 bit) using RMAN.
    Install clusterware 11gR2
    Convert database to RAC Here you will have to convert to RAC/ASM on both the source/target instances -- You are eliminating the patches part in Option 1, but again extra work need to be done to convert the database from 32-bit to 64-bit on the target instance + convert to RAC and migrate to ASM (on both instances).
    Based on the above, I would recommend and suggest you go with Option 2.
    Thanks,
    Hussein

  • E Business suite 11i with Database in ASM  - Cloning

    Hi All,
    We are planning to migrate the E Business suite database to ASM and wanted to know the best cloning method to perform the cloning from Production to non production.
    Applciation - 11.5.10.2
    Database - 10.2.0.4 in ASM
    Since i dont see any specific notes in metalink on this, raised an SR with oracle and they told that oracle does not support this but we can use RMAN as few of the customers use RMAN to perform the clonine.
    Can you please advice on the best methode to perform this
    Our constraints :
    We have a constrain in performing the cloning through RMAN, for performing the duplicate database we need to have the sqlplus connection between prod and non prod. We will not be getting this setup due to security policy.
    I had referred the "Best Practices for Cloning ASM-managed Databases" white paper

  • COLD BACKUP DATABASE CLONING with +ASM

    Hi,
    I need some help to clone the database using Cold backup with +ASM. Can somebody help me on this
    Here is the steps we did on Source Database.
    1. Copied all the $ORACLE_HOME from Source to TARGET.
    2. Created pfile from spfile.
    3. Created backup control file on the Source.
    Questions:
    =======
    1. Source has 3 diskgroups, do we need to create new 3 disk groups on the TARGET ?
    2. If we needed 3 new disk groups on TARGET, how can we move all the data from SOURCE diskgroup to TARGET disk group, Do we need to use RMAN?
    Please let me know what else need to do to bring up the TARGET database.
    Thanks
    Dheeru.

    Hi,
    1. Source has 3 diskgroups, do we need to create new 3 disk groups on the TARGET ?Not necessarily.
    2. If we needed 3 new disk groups on TARGET, how can we move all the data from SOURCE diskgroup to TARGET disk group, Do we need to use RMAN? Yes, use RMAN to clone/duplicate the database.

  • Cloning DB to single instance ASM issue 11.2.0.3

    Hi All,
    Having trouble cloning a DB via OEM to a new server I just built up which utilizes a single instance ASM.
    Creating a new DB via dbca onto ASM works no problems.
    When doing the clone it fails on the source server during the duplicate database step with the following output:

    echo set off

    It appears as though the target server doesn't start the new DB up in nomount because control files don't exist yet.
    The init ora file exists on the target server and when trying to run "startup nomount" manually it fails with:
    SQL> startup nomount
    ORA-01078: failure in processing system parameters
    LRM-00117: syntax error at ',' at the start of input
    The init ora file looks all correct except for the last line:
    control_files='',''
    Any ideas on what else to check?
    No firewall issues, both source and target servers can ping one another and port 1521 is open on both.
    Both source and target servers are running 11.2.0.3.
    Looking forward to some much needed help as this has me stumped.

    If I were you, I would open in nomount the Instance were its going to be duplicated to verify all the parameters are correct even before starting the duplicate, also you can change several parameters in the duplicate command

  • Oracle Apps 11i Cloning with +ASM 10g Database

    Hi,
    Can somebody help Apps cloning on the issue facing. Please provide in detailed process Apps Cloning with +ASM.
    Trying to Clone 11i Apps environment(11.5.10.2) and Db 10.2.0.4. The database is on +ASM.
    1. Copied all the application files from SOURCE to TARGET ( source and target are different servers)
    2. Database restored from source and the TARGET database is up and running( Database servers TARGET and SOURCE are 2 different servers.
    3. As per doc id 230672.1 , preclone was successful in apps and db servers.
    ISSUE:
    =====
    As per doc id 230672.1 , if we run adcfgclone on database server that messedup the database which is running already on the TARGET server, because adcfgclone recreate control files and all which is already intact for us in +ASM.
    Question:
    ======
    1. do we still need to do anything on the TARGER database server? if need to run , please provide the detailed steps
    2. Do we need to run adcfgclone on apps server? please provide the detailed steps.
    Thank You,
    Dheeru.

    Yes, restored and the database is up and running.
    Then i ran adcfgclone dbtier on database which messedup whole database. Deleted all the file in ASM disk groups and try to restore the database threw RMAN.
    Got new error, Please see below.
    In the first run previously i got same error but fixed by creating control_files='+LASR','+FLASH' in pfile, again it's giving same error.
    Also pasting PFILE.
    Any idea on this.

    Linux RHE 6
    Oracle Grid single instance (Oracle Restart) 11.2.0.4 installed
    Oracle RDBMS 11.2.0.4 installed
    One 11.2.0.4 database single instance running
    Our ASM have DATA, REDO, FRA diskgroup mounted
    We need to do a storage snapshot for creating on THE SAME server a copy of the current ASM diskgroups DATA, REDO, FRA. Then we would rename the cloned diskgroups using renamedg command.
    We have done this operation several times when ASMlib is not used. The command used when ASMlib is not used is for example:
    renamedg dgname=FRA newdgname=FRA2 verbose=true phase=both asm_diskstring='/dev/oracle/fra*'
    With ASMlib in use I am not sure about the steps to follow
    First I am not sure about what to provide to the asm_diskstring parameter of the renamedg command. I need to provide an asm_diskstring which identifies the path pointing to the disks belonging to the cloned diskgroup (I do not want to rename the original diskgroup). Though in an ASM instance using ASMlib the parameter asm_diskstring is is ‘ORCL:*’.
    Second, I suppose after the diskgroup rename ASMlib would return an error because it would find duplicated disks.
    Could you please advise ?
    Thanks in advance
    Massi

    Hi,
    As you have OS level clone ,you have same ASMlib label.
    ASMlib always mount unique ASMLib label only.
    +you need to identify those newly cloned device.
    + Then rename those ASMLib label using force-renamedisk after taking 1Mb disk backup using dd read on one node .
    + Then run scandisks on other nodes .
    + Then validate newly labelled device is mounted or not on all nodes .
    $ ls -ltr /dev/oracleasm/disks/*
    + Then run renamedg command with asm_diskstring of /dev/oracleasm/disks/*

  • Database cloning using ASM disks

    Hi,
    I have 2 node RAC DB running on linux using ASM. This is E-business suite application. Disks are EMC now. Want to clone another environment using HP and Netapp disks. Can someone direct me to a link or document showing the cloning of DB using ASM.
    Thanks
    Anitha

    CONVERT* parameters not supported with OMF
    check documentation to confirm
    "The DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT initialization parameter cannot be used to control generation of new names for files at the duplicate instance which are Oracle Managed Files (OMF) at the target instance."
    "Do not set the LOG_FILE_NAME_CONVERT initialization parameter"

  • Cloning Oracle database with ASM --

    Hello All,
    I am new to ASM.
    We have recently migrated our 10g database into 11gASM. Now we want to clone the database to a different server. I am completely aware of the cloning a standalone database. But this is something new to me. Cloning a database which is in ASM is new to me. Please help me with the steps.
    thank you

    Nothing is there to change in the case of ASM. The normal procedure standalone database cloning applies here.
    One thing you got to rememer is the DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT and LOG_FILE_NAME_CONVERT. Set the ASM path in both parameters as source.

  • How to Reschedule the DBMS jobs after Cloning

    Hi ,
    Before Cloning , i took the backup of dbms jobs using the command
    SELECT job, what, next_date, next_sec FROM dba_jobs;
    After the clone is done , how should I resubmit the job?. Do we need to submit the job using the plsql block with commit in like below
    VARIABLE jobno NUMBER
    BEGIN
    DBMS_JOB.SUBMIT(:jobno,
    what=>'statspack_alert.sql;',
    next_date=>sysdate,
    interval=>'sysdate+1' );
    COMMIT;
    END;
    or
    Can I submit the jobs directly like below
    Execute dbms_job.submit(
    what=>'statspack_alert.sql;',
    next_date=>sysdate,
    interval=>'sysdate+1');
    In the plsql block , can i hard code the job number?.
    If we are using the bind variable, when the job is sumbitted , does it get assigned with job number?
    Do we need to submit the job as the owner of that job or sysdba can submit the job on behalf of the owner?
    Please address my questions
    Thanks
    Naveen

    Can I submit the jobs directly like below
    Execute dbms_job.submit(
    what=>'statspack_alert.sql;',
    next_date=>sysdate,
    interval=>'sysdate+1');What happens when you actually do it?
    Why ask us rather than do it yourself?
    PROCEDURE SUBMIT
    Argument Name               Type               In/Out Default?
    JOB                    BINARY_INTEGER          OUT
    WHAT                    VARCHAR2          IN
    NEXT_DATE               DATE               IN     DEFAULT
    INTERVAL               VARCHAR2          IN     DEFAULT
    NO_PARSE               BOOLEAN           IN     DEFAULT
    INSTANCE               BINARY_INTEGER          IN     DEFAULT
    FORCE                    BOOLEAN           IN     DEFAULT
    In the plsql block , can i hard code the job number?.NO
    If we are using the bind variable, when the job is sumbitted , does it get assigned with job number?yes, see above
    Do we need to submit the job as the owner of that job or sysdba can submit the job on behalf of the owner?No option to assign OWNER, so need to CONNECT as desired owner before DBMS_JOB.SUMBIT

  • Cloning ASM disks question?

    I have a customer who has been running oracle 10.2.0.4 two node rac on HPUX Itanium platform and using raw devices for the datafile locations. They use EMC clraion for the storage platfom.
    The customer uses EMC snapshot/cloning technology on the storage side to create a clone of the database luns for their staging database environment. This works well and they are able to simply snap the luns on the storage side and then simply mount them on another host and bring the database copy up an another host.
    Well, now that they are in the process of 11g upgrade and the fact that raw devices will no longer be supported going forward for the most part the cusomter would like to start to use ASM for the clustered file system for the RAC databases.
    I am trying to find out if there are any white papers or some documentation on how we could make clones when the disks are ASM disks? I know that EMC can snapshot the luns as they have in the past but not sure how we can get them mounted up in another ASM instance on a separate server?
    Just wanting to know if anyone has some experience on cloning ASM disk or disk groups between different hosts and maybe some supporting documentation to go along with it.
    Thanks.

    YOU CAN. You can use the same EMC copy for the ASM Lun, attach it to another server and can start the ASM instance up. It is quiet same as you were doing it with raw devices.
    ASM files has ASM headers on it. When you copy the disks over, asm instance can recognize those headers and be able to come online. ASm instance can identify the copied disks from their disk headers.

    Thanks.

    Can someone please share steps regarding cloning ASM database,Clone as you have done in the past.
