Gigabyte GTX590 to Apple 27 inch thunderbolt port

Hi there
I have tried to find answer to this question, but so far I have not found none.
A friend of mine wants to buy an Apple 27 inch diplay to any cost because he reckons they are the best display available currently,
He is a civil engineer and uses a pc workstation with Autocad. The gigabyte graphic card (gtx590) on his computer has 3 DVI ports and 1 mini display port.
Will this port  drive his Apple Thunderbolt display correctly?
Thanks and regards
Ipnotech

doesn't work because he need a graphic card with thunderbolt port - not availebale !

  • Apple 27 inch monitor connect to dvi port

Anyone know how to connect an Apple 27 inch monitor with a mini connector to a nvidia quadro 4800 dvi port and still maintain full resolution ? ( No, the Kanex C247D will not maintain full resolution)

I just finished hooking up my 4 year old Mac Pro to a new Apple 27" LED Display an hour ago.
I used an Atlona AT-DP400 DVI to Mini DisplayPort adapter and it works great "out
of the box".  However, my  Video Card is a NVIDA GeForce 7300 GT 24 pin.  I don't
know if that's the same as your quadro.

  • Flaky thunderbolt port connection to external Apple LCD display

Is anyone else finding that connecting an external display via the Thunderbolt port requires a lot of pressure on the port, and that the cable has to be wiggled around relatively vigorously to connect? I'm a bit worried about the longevity of the port.

and here is the attached screenshot

  • Anyone else having trouble connecting MBP with thunderbolt port (TBp) and 27"iMac with mini display port (MDp)

I have a 27" Imac.i7 with mini displayport and MBP13 i5 with thunderbolt port. Some time ago I tried to connect my old MBP with miniDP  to The 27"iMac I Failed so did the apple centre they refunded cable costs and said I'd be contacted by Cupertino. That was 9 months ago, now replaced MBP with 13 inch(**** I can use my iMac as display!). Does not work phoned Fast Lane very helpful guy called JIM emailed me some software/firmware update links.  Still no display linking. One of the links was for a couple of updates for a TBp equiped 27" iMac mine is only MDp equiped. Failing to find any MDp updates in apple support.  Anyone have any Ideas!  My lad has a later 27"i5 he uses Xbox 360 no problem on his but it wont look at my MBP.
Beginning to feel like some of the kit that went with a fully loaded 5500 worked eventually. Computer and FM radio, Photography kit fine, video capture audio capture forget it.  Too many crashes and resets made it impractical.

  • Can I use my macbook pro mid 2012 as an external display using thunderbolt port

    Hi,
I want to use my macbook pro (mid 2012) screen as an external display for a raspberry pi using a HDMI to Thunderbolt cable, via the thunderbolt port on the macbook pro. Would this be possible? Can the macbook pro's thunder bolt port act as an input and is any additional software required?
I look forward to hearing from you.
    Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You are referring to Target Display mode. Target Display mode can only be used in 27-inch iMacs and iMacs with Thunderbolt, not MacBooks Pro > http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11302
Unfortunately, you can't use the MacBook Pro as a display. It doesn't support the monitor mode

  • Can Adobe Premiere run on 2013 Mac Book Pro (thunderbolt port) and display on 2010 iMac (Mini DisplayPort) using TDM. TB cable   Opt. F2 didn't work. Will a Mini Display cable work?

I need to work on Adobe Premiere on my 2013 Mac Book Pro (with thunderbolt port) and display it on my 2010 iMac (with Mini DisplayPort) using Target Display Mode (TDM). I tried using a thunderbolt cable plus Option F2, but it didn't work. Will a Mini Display cable work? Any other suggestions?

2010 iMacs do not have Thunderbolt, they have mini-display ports. You are using the wrong connection, you need a mini display port to mini display port. Please read up on what Apple says in Target Display Mode: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • Thunderbolt port to 30" cinema display

I have recently purchased a 15 inch macbook pro. When I first tried to connect the computer to my 30" cinema display both screens flashed and did not connect. I am wondering if the mini displayport cable is compatible with the thunderbolt port?
this is the connector that i am trying to use:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB571Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=MTA4MzU1ODY
    thanks.

According to the specs for the 15" Macbook pro,  it says,
Make sure the mini-displyport plug is fully seated.  It's easy to miss where it looks fully in but it's not.
Note mini-displayport is physically compatible with thunderbolt so that's why you can plug it into your thunderbolt port.

  • Will the Apple 30 Inch display work with my MacBook pro? Confused!!

    Hi all,
thinking of getting a used Apple 30 inch display to go with my MBP, but not sure if it will work at the correct resolution. Ive read you need a Duel Link DVI cable, but I have Thunderbolt not mini-display port. My MBP is early 2011 (think), so I am really confused. The 27 Incher with thunderbolt would be good too, but they are too expensive for me.
Graphics card is AMD Radeon HD 6490M, 16mb RAM. 10.6.8.
I would really appriciate any advice !
    Thank you all in advance,
    Bish.

I am replying to my own post here, but i have made excellent progress and wanted to let any other viewers in the same boat, know the solution.
Basically, the Duel Link DVI cable from Apple (£70 / $99) is the bad boy that works. My confusion was Thunderbolt, but apparently Thunderbolt IS ALSO a DVI port ! So, buy the 30 incher on Ebay or off a mate, and BANZAI ! done. Glorious res of about 2560x1600pixels is awesome!
The only downside here is that it might be too big LOL !!!!
    Good luck all

  • Connecting a Canon HV30 camcorder vai a thunderbolt port to a new imac

    Hi all
I was using imovie 11 with my old imac (purchased Summer 2008) using the firewire connection to transfer DV/HDV video from my Canon HV30 camcorder (tape). I just bought a new 27 inch imac with the thunderbolt ports and now I am stuck as there is no firewire
The camcorder had  a 4 pin firewire output so I have tried the following
Used the original camcorder cable (Firewire 400), converted to firewire 800 with an adapter and then used the Apple firewire to thunderbolt adapter
Used a cable that converted the 4 pin firewire to firewire 800 and then used the Apple firewire to thunderbolt adapter.
In each case, imovie is not seeing the camcorder.
I know that my camcorder is not listed as being supported by imovie but has worked fawlessly on my old machine running the same software and operation system (Mountain Lion)
    Any ideas - thanks
    Kevin

    Hi epjustin,
What I said in the previous post (Oct 9 2013) works for me but I can try to explain in more detail if that helps.
Firstly. remove the battery or the ac power connection from the camcorder. - VERY IMPORTANT
Turn on the Imac and login
Attach a thunderbolt to firewire 800 adapter to the IMac thunderbolt port - you can get this from the Apple Store
Now attach a firewire 800 to firewire 400 adapter to the the end of the previous adapter. You should now have the appropriate firewire 400 connection so that you can attach the original firewire cable that came with the camcorder.
Now connect the camcorder cable to complete the connection between the camcorder and the computer
Now connect the power supply or the battery to the camcorder and turn on the camcorder. Set the camcorder up so that it exports through the cable as normal
You should now be able to detect the camcorder in imovie. If you can't see the camcorder in imovie, go into system report from about this mac and you should see an entry in the thunderbolt section relating to the connected camera.
As I mentioned above, turn on and disconnect the power from the camcorder before disconnecting the camcorder from the Imac or turning off the Imac
If you can't get things to work, you may want to try connecting the camcorder to another computer as there is a chance that the board is fried if it doesn't work
Please let me know if you need any further help

  • Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter or Thunderbolt port stopped working

Hey problem if anyone can help:
I use a Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter, and all of a sudden it stopped working to connect to the internet on my Macbook Air (MacBook Air (11-inch, Early 2014 with OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 (14B25)).  In my system information it says it is connected even when not, see below:
    Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter:
      Vendor Name: Apple Inc.
Device Name: Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter
      Vendor ID: 0x1
      Device ID: 0x8003
      Device Revision: 0x1
      UID: 0x0001000202DD0A30
      Apple Serial Number: DTN4263048VDWKHBQ
      Route String: 1
      Firmware Version: 5.5
      Port (Upstream):
      Status: Device connected
      Link Status: 0x2
      Speed: Up to 10 Gb/s x1
      Port Micro Firmware Version: 0.0.8
Can anyone help me figure out what the issue is? Is it the Adapter, the Thunderbolt port itself? A gremlin?  Thanks!

Which model MacBook Pro do you have? Does it have a Thunderbolt port? If so the TB->Ethernet adapter MAY work (although it's specifically designed for those MacBook models that lack an Ethernet port).
The adapter would certainly be the cheapest way to go - if it works. Personally, I would rather have the Ethernet port on my MacBook Pro working, but this may be an expensive fix, I don't know. If I were you, I would at least take your computer to your local Apple Store/AASP and get a free diagnosis and estimate to repair your MBP. If it seems as if it's going to be too costly, then you may certainly try the adapter and see if it works.

  • Thunderbolt Display + MacBook Pro w/out a Thunderbolt port?

I have a 2009 MacBook Pro (MB990LL/A) without a Thunderbolt port and a new Apple Thunderbolt Display (27-inch).  Is there any way to make these devices compatible? Would the Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter work?
    Thank you

Have found this that i think should help you.
    Using the Apple Thunderbolt Display:
What are the system requirements for using my Apple Thunderbolt Display in OS X?
What are the system requirements for using my Apple Thunderbolt Display in Boot Camp?
How many Apple Thunderbolt Displays can I use with my Mac in OS X?
How many Apple Thunderbolt Displays can I use with Mac in Windows 7 or 8 with Boot Camp?
Can I connect a Mini DisplayPort display to my Apple Thunderbolt Display for computers that support using more than one display?
Can I use an Apple Thunderbolt Display and an iMac in Target Display Mode to act as two additional displays for my Thunderbolt-equipped Mac?

  • Is the thunderbolt port on the new MBP 13' the same as a mini displayport?

sorry if this is a silly question..

I think that the Thunderbolt port offers the same function as the Display port.
This a working solution that I have, which uses the Thunderbolt port for both Thunderbolt and Display port use:
Macbook Air (mid 2011) - connect to Seagate GoFlex Desk Thunderbolt Hard Drive (Using Thunderbolt cable)
Seagate Goflex Thunderbolt passthrough (it has 2 thunderbolt ports) to a Dell 24 Inch monitor (using Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter cable).
Both the Seagate GoFlex and the Dell 24 inch monitor work :-)

  • HT1349 New 27 inch Thunderbolt 2nd monitor not recognized by 27inch imac running windows 7.

I have a 27 inch imac running windows 7 and just purchased a 27 inch Apple thunderbolt display to use as a second monitor. Ive connected the second monitor via a thunderbolt cable however it is not being recongnized by the imac on windows 7.   The screen is just black. I've been to the Multiple monitors setup screen in the windows control panel and it does not detect the second monitor.   I have boot camp version 5.05033 installed which I installed today.   If I run the IOS 10 operating system the second display works OK.
The graphics card is a AMD Radeon HD 6970M card.
I notice that if I have the second monitor plugged into the thunderbolt port the imac will not start up. I have to disconnect the monitor and then the imac will boot up.
I mainly use windows (unfortunately) because I have software that won't run on a MAC so I really need this second monitor to work with Windows.
How can I get the second monitor Thunderbolt display to work on Windows 7.0 ?
    Thank you

  • Thunderbolt ports faulty?

    Hey all,
I am unable to connect to thunderbolt ethernet anymore.
I've got my ethernet plugged in as usual to my thunderbolt adaptor, in the network pane, I am getting "Status: Cable Unplugged".
I've tried two different (geniune Apple) thunderbolt adaptors and both do not work in either of my ports. I've tried the same setup but plugged into an older macbook's thunderbolt port and thunderbolt ethernet was working fine and green on their computer. Therefore I've ruled out faulty adapters. I've always found the thunderbolt ports very sensitive and if the thunderbolt cable shifts a few mm it ends up disconnecting. For the past two months I've actually not been able to connect to one of the thunderbolt ports, and now I can't connect to the other one. I bought my macbook pro on the 30th of October 2013 so hopefully they will be lenient in regards to warranty if it comes to needing a replacement..
I'm running 10.10 Yosemite on my MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013).
Quite disappointed. I'm living in university accommodation and don't have an option of connecting to wifi, we are allowed one ethernet connection each.
Just seeking some confirmation that it is indeed a hardware problem with my thunderbolt ports. I've tried a few things like adding a new network location, renewing DHCP lease, deleting "SystemConfiguration", checking Console for any activity when plugging in the adapters (no activity), restarting a fair few times, restarting in safe mode, running Apple Diagnostics and now writing this post.
Please advise if there is anything I can still try.
    Cheers,
    K
P.S. Sorry about my username.. when I created it I had no idea I would be stuck with it for life..

Yeah, I just got a 15" Retina MBP and I find the Ethernet/Thunderbolt setup way too fragile to be reliable.  As you've experienced if i jiggle the Ethernet/Thunderbolt adapter just a little the Ethernet connection breaks. What a step backwards from my older MBP that had a real Ethernet port.  Not sure what I"m going to do about it but I may take this to the Genius Bar just to vent.
