Glitch on dc signal

Hello,
I am using Analogue module PXI 6713 A[5] pin in PXI
chassis 1044, to generate a Glitch( amplitude 1.2V with a depth of 0.5V)  on a DC signal. The glitch on the DC signal
through A[5] pin is achieved in the following way.
Method 1: (Please refer Glitch_2ms.JPG and VMON_Ramp.vi
files)
1) Start generating the DC signal from 1.2V.
2) Once it reaches the 1.2V start decreasing the voltages
in steps of 0.1V until it reaches 0.5V.
3) Once it reaches 0.5V start increasing the voltages in
steps of 0.1V until it reaches 1.2V.
Repeat steps 1 , 2 and 3 ...
This way I am able to achieve the glitch width of 2ms
with a decrease of 0.1V /interval. But I would like to achieve the glitch of
width 1us or 10us. I followed below steps to generate the minimum glitch width.
Method 2: (Please refer Glitch_180us.JPG and
VMON_Ramp_debug.vi files)
1) Start generating 1.2V DC signal.
2) Immediately generate 0.5V DC signal.
Repeat steps 1 and 2.
But the glitch width I could able to achieve is only
180us which doesn’t meet my requirement of 1us.
The Labview source code for  both the
methods  are attached.
Could you please give your inputs in order to achieve the
glitch width of 1us order.
Thanks.
Sincerely,
Srinath.

I believe I understand what you're trying to do. You cards maximum sample speed for single channel analog output is 1MS/s. This means that 1/1MS/s = 0.000001s/S is the minimum interval between samples that you can write. This is precisely 1 microsecond minimum dt. As a result, trying to write a glitch at 1microsecond means that it will be instantaneous and not ramped (there is no room to ramp because it would have to happen in the interval between 2 samples). Also, are you trying to make the clitch 2microseconds wide (1 down and 1 up)? That is reasonable as you can have 1 sample of down time at .5V and the rest up at 1.2V. Otherwise you're working on too small of a time scale (.5 microseconds down and .5 up is too small of an interval for the maximum sample speed of the card).
Also, if you're trying to do regenerative output (meaning you load a set number of samples to the card), you're going to have to make sure that the FIFO size (which is somewhere around 16k samples) is big enough to give you the appropriate interval upon which you want to re-trigger the glitch. In the case of that cards FIFO size this is a very small (16ms) interval. Is that a small enough interval for retriggering? You can also do it in non-regenerative mode which would allow you more control, however you'll need to be very careful about underflow issues. See the example in labview about continuous non-regenerative internal clock analog generation for an example of how to do this (should be in Hardware Input and Output->DAQmx->Analog Generation). If your "configurable time period" is smaller than around 16ms, you'll want to do things nonregeneratively. There may be a way to do it with some sort of complex triggering system, but I don't think the card is going to be capable of that, I think non-regenerative software methods are the only way to accomplish it on a larger time interval.
You may also (if this seems to daunting) wish to be put in touch with an alliance member who might be able to help you get the code written. It will cost a little, but if this will take a sizable chunk of your time it may be worth it.

  • Glitches on digital signal from 5751

I am driving four LMH6574MA multiplexers with digital signals from NI-5751 digitizer (running on NI PXI 7953R FlexRIO). There are glithches on all the digital signals (signal frequency is 40 MHz). Is there a way to clean these signals up in software?

Did you place the AI node in the IO Mod Clock 0 clock domain?
If you don't have those analog input nodes inside of the correct clock domain you'll be performing an unsafe clock crossing that will result in glitching.
The user manual walks you through how to add the IO Module Clock 0 to a project. Or you could start from the getting started example.

  • Carrier logo sometimes shows as 000-00 and loses signal

    Hiya,
My girlfriends iphone 5 sometimes loses all signal and the carrier shows as 000-00 rather than EE. Regardless of signal in the area, the only way to get a signal back is to restart the phone!
The phones not jailbroken or anything and is only about a month old. Its running the latest iOS.
    Any ideas?

No I don't think its necessarily because of the 4G rollout.
My iPhone5 has a Orange/EE 3G sim card and contract.
This is what my theory is...
My iPhone5 is set to automatically select the best network. It can see the 4G EE network is available, but when it connects via my 3G sim card it glitches / nullifies the signal and just reports that weird 000-00.
Ever since I turned off 4G / LTE in settings I have not had the 000-00 error.
So now it isn't getting confused with 4G and 3G signals, it doesn't give the error.
So my theory is supported by my experience.
Out of curiosity, is everyone who is having this problem absoloutely sure they have 4G sims??? I got my iPhone on release day, as a new contract, assumed it was 4G and only found out after a customer service phonecall much later that infact the new contract I had taken out was only a 3G one despite it being a brand new contract with an iPhone5 (yet that was one of the selling points by Orange / EE.)

  • Carrier logo and signal bar dissappeared

    Hi,
My carrier just got LTE support for iPhone 5 and I received updated carrier settings on my iPhone. As soon as they were installed so that it says "Enable LTE" instead of "Enable 3G", my whole status bar on the left side disappeared.
No Carrier logo, but much worse, no signal bar or wifi bar. But I do have signal... When I switch on "do not disturb" they appear again but disappear as soon as do not disturb is switched off again. So I can browse and call etc, but the status bar is just missing...
If anyone has any advice, please help! I tried resetting the phone, as well as switching it off and on again. More than once. No change.
I even restored my phone from a backup I made yesterday before the network settings have been updated.
I would be very grateful for any help.
    Thanks
    THa

  • DAQ Card is inducing noise on an external clock signal resulting in false triggering

I am using an optical encoder as an external clock source for analog measurements with a PCI 6036 card.  The optical encoder signal is "filtered" using a Schmitt Trigger circuit and proper shielding practices are used on the encoder cable.  I am using a recent version of Labview.
When the TTL square wave signal from the encoder is viewed on an oscilliscope (without the DAQ attached) it is a picture perfect square wave, nothing that would cause any problems.
When I then connect the encoder output to my PFI line (with or without the oscilliscope) I get false triggering due to intermittent (seemingly random...) high frequency noise "blips".  Out of 360 expected samples, I will typically get between 2 and 6 "bonus" samples...  When captured on a scope, the noise looks like a decaying sine wave and lasts for only a few us.  the peak magnitude is tyically around 2 V or so as shown on the scope, which is apparently just enough to make my card grab a sample.
Since the noise is only present when the encoder signal is attached to the DAQ, it seems that the DAQ is somehow inducing noise into the signal.
I have been fighting this problem for a while now and tried the following:
    1)  I first tried the raw encoder signal, but then added the Schmitt trigger, increased the signal strength of the encoder lines by adding resistors to ground, double checked my shielding, etc...
    2) I verified that my ground potential between my card and my conditioning circuit were not causing problems.  The conditioning circuit and encoder is now powered of the card itself, which should resolve any possible problem with grounds.
    3) Cursed at various inanimate objects (made me feel better but didn't help the situation)
    4) Checked if I could set a minimum pulse width required to trigger off of an exernal scan clock (I can't with my hardware.)
    5) Swapped my card with a card of a different type (problem is still there)
If anybody out there has some recomendations, I am open to anything.

    Hello OSU_Mech_Eng,
I'm not quite sure how the DAQ card could be inducing glitches into
your digital signal.  Digital signals from mechanical devices like
quadrature encoders can often be glitchy or bouncy, but your schmitt
trigger should act as a debouncing filter to clean up that digital
signal.  It sounds like you have thoroughly troubleshooted this
problem, and I would recommend moving on and trying to use a counter on
your DAQ board to generate the digital signal, rathar than using the
raw signal from your encoder/schmitt trigger.
You were correct when you stated that the best way to do this is by
configuring your counter to perform retriggerable pulse
generation.  You can use the signal of from your encoder to gate
the internal clock on your DAQ card, creating a clean digital
signal.  By setting the minimum pulse width of the signal, you
will be able to ignore the small glitches in your signal. Here is
a link to some Knowledgebases describing how to do this:
How Do I Remove Glitches or Add a Debounce Filter to My Digital Signal?
How Do I Define the Parameters for Pulse Generation in NI-DAQmx?
For further reference, on all of NI's new M-Series DAQ cards (PCI
625x), the PFI circuitry contains built in debouncing filters to
protect against small glitches in digital signals.  If you have an
M-Series card lying around, it might be helpful to give that a try.
    I hope this helps,

I don't understand what the min/max refers to. I do not have any averaging on. Does VirtualBench actually take multiple samples at each point?
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

That depends on your input signal. For example, if you had a single, large glitch during a sample period, an average may not be a very accuracte representation of the signal. However, if the signal was relatively stable over the sample period, an average might be a good representation of the signal.
In peak detect mode, the scope oversamples at 250MS/s and saves the min and the max of each sample period. So for example, if the scope is sampling at 10MS/s and is in peak detect mode, it saves the min and the max of every 25 points that are oversampled at 250MS/s, or in other words the input is sampled every 4 ns, and the scope saves the min and max of the input over each 100 ns period. This mode is useful if you would like to be able to acquire for a long time, but still have a good chance of seeing glitches in your signal.
In sample mode, the scope saves every sample it acquires. If it's configured to sample at 250MS/s, it saves the state of the input every 4 ns. If it's configured to acquire at 10MS/s, if saves the state of the input every 100 ns. To get the most accurate representation of the waveform, use sample mode and acquire as fast as possible (zoom in to the smallest time per division in the app possible for your signal).

    Hello,
The situation that you are seeing here can be identified as 'glitching'.  Glitching occurs where there is potential for previous samples in a buffer to be mixed in with newer samples written into the buffer, causing a signal output that is a mix between the old and new data you are trying to output.  In the DAQmx Help document, search for 'glitching' and you will be directed to an article which explains glitching, mentions Warning 200015 is thrown where there is a potential for this to happen, and then offers suggestions on how to work around this issue, as well as two pictures that clarifies what could happen with glitching.
This warning pops up in your application since you are writing one set of data and then writing a second set of data afterwards.  If you do not see glitching on your signal, you can modify your code to ignore this warning.  Read through the help document for suggestions on modifications that will work for your application.

  • Video sometimes jumps/skips when watching DVR program

I've noticed this weird issue lately. Sometimes when I'm watching a recorded show, the picture kind of jumps. It's not like pixelation or audio dropout, but it won't be smooth. It only happens every now and then. Has this ever happened to anyone else? I would like to know if there is a cure for it.

Does it happen only on recorded programs or have you noticed if it happens during live programming too?
It could be a lot of differnt things,  bad signal, problem with the show, problem with the cables, problem with the hard drive, etc.
Depending on how severe it is and how often it happens it may or may not even be an issue. With digital picture, the occasional blip, or tiling, or pause would be equivalent to getting snow on the old cable systems. (sun spots  ). and if we are talking about something that lasts a second and happens once or twice a month type thing, I'd say that its nothing to worry about and think of that as a small glitch in the signal.
Now if this is something that happens frequently and lasts more than a second or so, then I'd troubleshoot more. If it is only on recorded shows, then I would think of possibly a bad sector on the hard drive or maybe the access to the HD is having issues. If on both recorded and live programming, I'd look at the cable connection on the back of the STB or at the splitters, etc.
But we would need a little more info.

  • Clash between AirPort Extreme and BlackBerry Curve on Apple MacBook??

Hi, I have a 1GB Apple MacBook and use my AirPort Extreme port for Internet access. Lately I have noticed that whenever I receive a text or e-mail through my BlackBerry Curve phone, AirPort cuts out. Is there some sort of glitch between the signals of the AirPort and the signals of the BlackBerry? Has anyone else experienced this? Thank you for your help!

  • NI PCIe-6351 Count Edges Channel error on fast TTL - Multiple Sample Clock pulses were detected

    Hello,
I am trying to use a PCIe-6351 to record the arrival times of a fast TTL pulse stream (generated by an Excilitas/Elmer Perkin APD). The TTL pulses are 2.5 volt amplitude, 20 ns duration, with a gauranteed dead time of 50 ns between pulses. I am trying to use the the Count Edges function, with the  100MhzTimebase as the input terminal and the input to counter 0 (PFI8) as the sample clock. After a few seconds of acquiring data at 100 Mhz, the application throws the following error (-201314):
"Multiple Sample Clock pulses were detected within one period of the input signal"
I had thought that because there is 50 ns dead time between pulses, multiple pulses would never arrive within a single clock cycle of the 100 Mhz timebase. Is there any way this might not be the case? Alternatively, is it possible that the counter is triggering on some jitter around the edges of the pulses? If so, is there any way to filter such high frequencies without losing the 20 ns pulses?
I have read through the forums for similar problems with photon detectors, but have not been able to resolve this issue. Thank you for the help.
    Matthew Bakalar

It sounds like the input signal is being detected as multiple edges.
The PFI filtering feature on the X Series card likely isn't going to be suitable for you.  The minimum setting is actually exactly 20 ns, which should in theory guarantee a 20 ns pulse passing through.  However, if the signal is high for anything less than that there wouldn't be a guarantee (depending on the phase of the timebase relative to the rising edge of the signal)--considering rise times and that there is evidently a glitch in the signal itself, it probably isn't actually a continuous 20 ns high time by the time the DAQ card sees it.
    What you should do instead:
Configure a second counter as a retriggerable counter output (single pulse).
Use your external signal as the start trigger for this counter output task.
Set the initial delay, high time, and low time for the counter output task all to 20 ns (the minimum).
Use the internal output of the counter output task as the sample clock source for the original edge count task.
The counter output will be triggered when it sees the external signal, wait 10-20 ns, then generate a 20 ns pulse.  If there is a glitch on the trigger line during this 30-40 ns that the output is generating, it will be ignored.  The counter output will be re-armed in time for the next pulse given the minimum dead time of 50 ns between pulses.
    Best Regards,
    John Passiak

  • I would like to delay my alarms for a brief instance so that I know a signal is real and not a glitch, how could I delay an alarm for a second or two.

I have a flow controller linked to fieldpoint that is tripping my alarm system (in Bridgeview) every time it reads a quick voltage difference. This occurs only for an instance, but it is enough to trip my alarms. I wanted to place in a 1 or 2 second alarm delay to make sure the signal is real, if it is than the alarm can trip. If it lasts for a brief instance I want the system to keep running and the alarm to ignore the glitch. How can I program that?

The way you implement this entirely depends on your vi-code.
An easy solution I could think of would be to low-pass filter your alarm-signals and check these values for limit-increase.

  • Preventing a glitch during signal generation

I’ve got two high speed digital IO cards (NI PCI-6541) generating simultaneous waveforms, and I’m getting a 120 – 150 ns glitch from one during the generation process. The waveforms have ~ 200k samples at a sampling rate of about ~ 20 MHz.
For each board, I call this sequence of  functions:
    niHSDIO Init Generation Session.vi
    niHSDIO Assign Dynamic Channels.vi
    niHSDIO Configure Sample Clock.vi
    niHSDIO Export Signal.vi
    niHSDIO Configure Generation Mode.vi
    niHSDIO Export Signal.vi
    niHSDIO Configure Generation Repeat.vi
niHSDIO Write Named Waveform (1D U32).vi
    niHSDIO Write Script.vi
    niHSDIO Get Session Reference.vi
It’s the “niHSDIO Write Named Waveform (1D U32).vi” function that causes the glitch. I’ve run into a similar thing before and it was the signals briefly going to a high impedance state during an initialization call; is there some way to prevent that?

    Hello All,
This issue was resolved by changing the initial state in the niHSDIO Init Generation Session.vi. The "glitch" occurred because the niHSDIO Init Generation Session.vi was configured to reset the device at the begining of the program. This set the device into a high impedance state. By changing the input so that the device did not reset we were able to eliminate the problem.

  • Displaying analog signal in case of glitch

I want to display the signal in the analog format
Since there is a glitch in the first few ns the actual graph gets suppressed to represent the glitch in the available range.
Is there a way so that it would display the required waveform correctly.

I am using suse linux and i am not able to enter anything in those boxes . I have changed the off scale to clip. recently i go the window without glitch and do reset zoom y . But when i change the window or zoom out the condition gets reset. As you can see in the images i get the the required graph but only part of it and after zooming out the glitches again start to dominate.i do not want to seet that part.my actual signal lies in low resolution.

  • Mid 2012 macbook pro glitching, freezing, overheating

Starting a few weeks ago, I noticed a change in my mid 2012 macbook pro. My laptop was losing charge EXTREMELY quickly, I would charge the laptop to 100%, and just an hour later (after not using it, but the lid closed and it was sleeping) it would be up to 60% charge, then when not in sleep and on, it would lose energy extremely quickly. I always make sure that unecessary background apps are not running--so that was not the problem. This problem went away after a week, but it was the first signal that something was wrong with my laptop.
Next, the laptop was having problems with waking up from sleep, I did an SMC reset and this problem was fixed.
After that, the laptop started glitching (static and banded lines on the bottom of the screen) and making this clicking noise when I was streaming video fullscreen on Netflix. I thought at first, that this was a problem with Silverlight, and reinstalled the silverlight plugin (several times). Then I noticed that the computer would glitch when I was streaming full screen on Netflix and picked up the laptop (moved it from a flat surface). This signaled to me that the problem was perhaps not software, but a hardware issue. I verified the disk and did a permissions report and neither were curative.
Further support that the problems are with hardware rather than hardware came to me when my computer presented itself with a fourth issue: the laptop, when being lifted or moved from a static surface, would sometimes freeze entirely and make the same clicking noise. This problem was not during fullscreen streaming, but had spread to when I was simply using more than one app at the same time (e.g. having Chrome and Word open together). When this happenend, the only solution would be to power down the computer and restart.
Finally, while sleeping with the lid closed in my backpack, I hear a whirring noise--I pick up the laptop and it was hot to the touch, overheating with the fans running on high speed.
I have no clue what is going on. I have taken the computer to my university's mac shop and they have suggested it is a logic board issue and I should give the computer in. I have scoured the forum for an answer of what is happening and am determined to find one. So I pose the problem to you--any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

  • Cellular signal becomes false positive

Everything works fine, except after a while the cellular signal becomes a false positive. By this I mean the upper left corner continue to read "Verizon 4G LTE" with a few bars, but there's actually no signal. All apps that require the Internet doesn't work. It's an easy fix though — in Settings, the Cellular Data has to be turned off, then turned back on. And by "after a while" I mean when it falls into sleep mode after a FaceTime session, then awoken. Not sure exactly how long afterwards. Not sure if it's consistently after one nap or longer. Not sure if running other apps would do the same thing.
    Question is:
    Is this normal?
I can imagine the upside is that you don't waste data in a prepaid data plan like when background apps continue to run.
The dreadful downside, however, is that any incoming FaceTime call cannot get through.
If this is NOT normal, is it a common glitch/bug/quirk? And how to fix it?

You can't begin measuring velocity until it is positive unless you have already been measuring velocity.
The solution is to always do the measurement.  Evaluate it with a >0.  In the true condition, then do whatever it is you want to do.
