Gmail / email not including attachment when forwarded

I forwarded an email with an Excel document from my work email to my personal email on my iPhone. When I tried to forward it from my gmail account, I was prompted with the "Include attachment?" question. I select include attachment and send the email. However, I am finding out after the fact that the attachment wasn't included. It is an email that has been forwarded a few times but it should still be included in the email. Is there something I am doing wrong? Any tips or solutions?

I have no suggestions other than to maybe install a WA 8 for the GW 8
people to access.

No, Redirest also does not work - attachments are left behind.

When I email an attachment (a .jpg file) with "Always Send Windows-Friendly Attachments" checked, the result is a picture embedded in the body of the email, not a attachment.  What am I doing wrong.

1. "Always Send Windows-Friendly Attachments" has nothing to do with the display of attachments on either your machine or other ones. It's an esoteric setting that strips the resource fork from Mac files (that might have them) which could apper as a duplicate file on the Windows machine.
2. Send Plain Text emails. Then it will always be received as an attachment.

How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode
A small guide on how to put your iPod touch / iPhone  into DFU mode. Works with all G’s of iPod touch / iPhone
What is DFU: Device Firmware Upgrade
Step 1: Turn off your iPod touch / iPhone completely and connect to PC / mac
Step 2: Hold down the Power button for 3 seconds
Step 3: Without releasing the power button, also hold the Home button for 10 seconds
Step 4: Without releasing the home button, release the power button and keep holding the Home button  for 20 seconds.
Itunes will identify that you are in DFU mode.
That's when I got the black screen with USB and iTunes icons.  iTunes itself, did not show my phone.

Hello Ramki
DECISION_NOTE is a new element created in the standard decision task as of new releases (Note 1643764)
Once the user fills in the comments, they are saved as SOFM Objectsin DECISION_NOTE (this too is multiline element). All we have to do is bind it back to the workflow container in _ATTACH_OBJECTS.
Hi Ronen
Thanks for the suggestion.....I was thinking on the same lines too....if at all we have to change the approach, I need to keep it least disruptive .
Hi Rick
Will test the FM SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_ATT_SEND_API1 ...let me check if I can redefine SENDTASKDESCRIPTION in a delegated subtype of SELFITEM and use this API ....(if at all I can)....
For the wait step part.... the attachment is added to the mail step via the binding from the workflow...._ATTACH_OBJECTS from Workflow to _ATTACH_OBJECTS of the email task...not sure where you want me to set a wait step. Request you to please elaborate a bit more.
Thank you all for your kind inputs!
Will be back with my today's trials...

• Attachment to email does not stay attached when email is forwarded - HELP

I recieved an email that had a pdf attachment and when I forwarded the email, the attachment was no longer there?
Is there something I need to do to keep the pdf attachment with the forwarded email - I also have to do this with tiff attachments.
Please help me fix this. Do I need some app that I don't have yet?

Hi.  I am sorry you are having issues forwarding emails with an attachment and I can certainly help you from here.   Does this happen when you forward any type of attachment or is it just PDF attachments?  Are you forwarding this from your Gmail email account?   Does the recipient of the email get the email and just not the attachment?
Waiting on your reply
Thanks!

• Email not seeing files when attaching them in iOSX Mavericks

Hi,
I've updated to iOSX Mavericks on my macbook pro and am having difficulty in my email seeing my files when I try to attach them. It just comes up with the main file menu and when I click on "documents" (for example) there are no files there.
It's only like this for the first few attempts and after a few goes it seems to display my files properly but happens every time and is quite time consuming and frustrating.
Anyone else have the same problem?
Help!
Thanks,
Suzzie

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

• Email substituting alternative files when forwarding attachments

I've had this happen twice.
You forward an attachment and somehow the file (in both cases a PDF) gets changed to an alternative file but renamed as the intended file.
Needless to say this is not very helpful and a potential risk for business use.
Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

Gmail as in the provider, or as in that you downloaded the gmail-specific mail client?
I use the stock Mail app and have a mix of Apple, Microsoft and Google accounts, 9 altogether. As far as I can recall, when forwarding a message with attachments I get the option to include them or not, regardless of the mail provider.

• PDF as body of email not an attachment

I want a PDF file to be the body of an email message. However, when I send it to someone it arrives as an attachment. How do I get around this so that it arrives as an opened document to a non-Mac user?? I have tried sending through Mail dragging and dropping as a PDF and a JPG, through Comcast's email system even when the box is check as attached as opened (I have also tried drag n drop as PDF and JPG in comcast), and through MS Outlook. Is there a way???

That's not possible, using a PDF. Because a PDF is an attachment.
Maybe you are talking about something like this.

• When I insert a screen shot or image into the body of an email (not an attachment), why does it not show up after being sent? It works fine in other browsers.

The image will show up in the message when I am preparing it to send, but after being sent either it doesn't show at all or it comes through as a mess of characters.

try reinstalling iTunes.

When I click on a website's "contact us" button while in Firefox, I get my old email address in my old email provider, which means that new emails in the old inbox have to be loaded first , taking a lot of time. • How do I send a .pdf file in the body of email, not as attachment?

Hello to all you MAC geniuses out there. I am using Pages to design flyers for my business. Then exporting them to a pdf file and trying to figure out how to send them in the BODY of an email and not an attachemnt that they have to open. Not really sure if this is a mail or pages question. It is probably a very simple step I am missing, but never the less can't seem to fiugre it out. Thanks in advance!
Genn

You must take into consideration that HTML & PDF are very different formats with conflicting purposes: HTML is by design intended for flexibility in appearance in such things as font & location of displayed elements, & has no fixed page size. PDF is intended to produce WYSIWYG documents, exactly the same regardless of platform, but requires either the Adobe Acrobat application or a PDF plug-in to do so.
Because of this, there is no way to convert a PDF document into HTML that will completely preserve the PDF's appearance. You can more or less force elements into the same relative position using tables & other HTML features, but pagination cannot be preserved, since no HTML formatted documents will have page breaks.
You also should consider that the appearance of an email message depends on the application used to view it. Most email, including what Mail generates, follows a standard known as MIME 1.0. MIME is designed to identify each element in the message such that different applications can process them according to their capabilities. Thus, since Mail knows how to display image files like gifs, tiffs, or jpegs, they will be displayed as if they were embedded in the text if the MIME tags indicate they should be. Anything Mail doesn't know how to process into displayable text or images, such as PDF's, will be displayed only as an attachment. The same will be true for other email reading applications.
IOW, email is not WYSIWYG. Some apps will show displayable items inline, some won't, even if the MIME type is displayable on your Mac in Mail.
There are several ways you can deal with this. You can try to convert the PDF into HTML, as suggested earlier. You will probably have to tweak the HTML so generated with an editor to get the best results, & deal with such things as pagination, image conversion or resizing, so-called web safe colors, etc. (PDF's are compressed & usually optimized for high resolution printing; to keep the message size down, you may want to convert images to lower resolution jpegs.)
Or, you can convert the entire flyer to a jpeg or png image, which insures WYSIWYG output, but may make text harder to read.
Alternately, you can compose a new message as plain text or as HTML that refers to the PDF's content & either includes it as an attachment or furnishes a link to a web page that contains it. This allows you to reach the widest audience, including those who do not have a PDF app or plug-in.
Whatever you elect to do, remember that what you send in the email is actually a combination of content & instructions about how to deal with it, & that not all recipients will see it the same way, no matter what you do.

• Embedded pictures in g-mail do not get thru when forwarded. Google claims it's a browser problem. how do I fix this?

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate, Firefox 3.6.16
This problem started up about 4 months ago. I thought it was a Google problem, but Google claims it's a browser problem. The same problem happens with Internet Explorer. I checked the Google website and many people are having this same problem. And Google is totally unresponsive.
Attached pictures go thru fine, but if I get an e-mail from someone with embedded pictures in the message, when I forward that message, the receiver does not get the pictures...only a red X in a blank box.
How can this be fixed?

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.
