Gnome packages shouldn't depend on archlinux-menus
Yes, I know... A lot of people want their menus customized to fit their distro. But some don't, and they should be able to remove the custom menus items that vex them. I'm fine with archlinux-menus being in the 'gnome' group, but packages like gnome-menus and control-center should not depend on it!
If you don't like the archlinux menu, just pacman -Rd the archlinux-menus package, it's gone from KDE and every XDG compliant menu system then also.
Other option: rightclick panel -> edit menus -> uncheck the archlinux menu.

How to build packages which contains dependency loop
I'm building packages for sh4 CPU.
And I found these packages contains make dependency loop.

Any suggestion to solve this? Which one is the first I could build?

I agree with this, but maybe this kind of info about ground-up building can go in a wiki.
I mentioned this dep cycle topic in #archlinux-arm:
2013-02-14 11:13:18 @WarheadsSE tdy, they will want to drop from deps, then rebuild w/ them back in
2013-02-14 11:14:03 tdy yea, that seems to be the easiest way.. e.g. build cairo w/o svg, build the chain, then rebuild cairo with svg
2013-02-14 11:14:12 @WarheadsSE yup
2013-02-14 11:14:31 @WarheadsSE thats a very simplified method of how we fix spaghetti monsters
Maybe you can check with them to see if they've kept some documentation about build orders or any tips in general.

Parent package shouldn't fail irrespective of that child package fails of success..
Hi friends,
I have a small requirement here.
we have 10 child packages and one parent package. Calling the child packages from parent.
irrespective of that child package fails of success , parent package should pick the next package..
EX.. Parent package calling the 5th child package, due to some error it got failed. Now parent package shouldn't fail it will skip the 5th child package and call the next 6th child package ...
if the child package success parent should have to call the next one..
if the child package fails parent package shouldn't fail and it calls the next child package..
How we can implement in this in ssis..See how you can apply logic as discussed here
The key is to set propagate variable to false within OnError event handler
The logic would be like this with the only exception being you need to use execute package task inside loop

We need to derive ZNUMPACK (Number of Packages) in plants depends batch
Hi Experts,
I have the code,it is nothing but a lookup on 0BATCH for quantity more lines greater than zero.I would like to derive it directly in the BEx Report. That is all we have to do is count the number of batch lines. We need to derive ZNUMPACK (Number of Packages) in plant depends upon batch. I tried it by using exceptional aggregation and tried in lot of ways. But I am not getting the solution. Please help me to solve this problem...
Thanks,
SVSHi Amit,
Thanks for your reply. In this scenario configurable material is involved. And first Make to Stock scenario is executed to check any material with customer entered characteristics are avialable. If its so it will determine its batch and assigned the quantity.
If zero quantity is assigned or no quantity is assigned then I have to trigger the Make to Order scenario for rest of unconfirmed quantities in order.
I have check it in USEREXIT_MOVE_FIELD_TO_VBAP but it was of no use. I even tried in USEREXIT_CHECK_VBAP but still no result. I am not sure what all the tables and structures i need to populate there.

Hi,
I have just installed Visual Studio Express 2013 update on Windows 8.1 OS, and started a new Windows Phone App project. When I'm opening a new XAML editor window, it fails with the following error message:

I have unistalled all the things and installed again but no use . Please anybody resolve this issue..Hello amanojkumar24,
I see a related error thread from here:
https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsapps/en-US/b6a66a5a-e3b4-4f1a-848e-c1a6b7668b31/desgin-mode-breaks-down-during-windows-store-application-windows-8?forum=toolsforwinapps
As you've already repaired Visual Studio but Visual Studio still reports the error for you, we need to look into the error info:
This package requires minimum version 0.0.0.0 of framework Microsoft.VCLibs.120.00.Debug published by any publisher to install.
So here we need this package "Microsoft.VCLibs.120.00.Debug"
Please do the following:
1. Check your installation that you have enabled VC++ components. If you haven't or if you are not sure of it, please check this blog:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/vcblog/archive/2014/08/01/c-runtime-for-sideloaded-windows-8-1-apps.aspx
Then you can download and install the package from
here.
2. You can also make sure you've registered and already have the license:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/20010421/vs-2013-xaml-editor-and-microsoft-vclibs-120-00-debug
Someone fixed it by using this solution.

So, it seems ghc 7 is considerably bigger than ghc 6. Probably it'll take much more space than 280 MB on a ubuntu machine too.
Next, I checked sizes of some of the applications I've installed in both O/S. Counted just the app's size, not of dependecies, with these commands

I see most packages are of similar/comparable sizes. The difference could be due to version differences, or as Xabre pointed out, due to packaging style. lilypond 2.12.13-7 takes up 11 MB in arch. In ubuntu, the package lilypond is about 4 MB, but it depends on lilypond-data, which is another 7 MB (totaling 11 MB), however there's no such dependency in arch.
I guess there should be similar reasons behind mplayer (130 MB vs 5 MB) and latex/texlive - (250 MB vs 17 MB).

After installing gnome packages, always black screen when startx
Hello everyone,
I am a newbie to Arch Linux, also not quite experienced at bare-bones Linux installation. I installed Arch Linux by following the steps in the installation guide up to X. Then I installed X by referring to the wiki Beginner's Guide: pacman -S xorg-server xorg-server-utils xorg-xinit. Then I installed vmware video: pacman -S extra/xf86-video-vmware. Now I tested startx. It works fine, tmw fires up, xterm windows open and xclock displaying. I can also switch to other virtual consoles by pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1~F6 (on VMware, I do Ctrl+Alt+(Space,F1))
Then I did: pacman -S gnome. Because I didn't startx during the installation, and I didn't install dbus by that time, I got some warning message regarding dbus, "GConf-WARNING **: Client failed to connect to the D-BUS daemon:", but that was installing gnome-shell, gnome-terminal, etc., so I guess it doesn't affect gnome startup. However, after this installation, startx goes into a black screen and cannot switch to other virtual consoles by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Fn. And even if I remove all files from /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ and /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d, leaving only the /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc (and no ~/.xinitrc), it still doesn't work. The /etc/xinit/xinitrc contains starting of twm, xterm and xclock near its end.
Could some experts shed some light on this?
Thanks a lot and best regards,
RobbieMr.Elendig wrote:There is several knows issues with vmware and xorg 1.14. Check your logs for segfault in X and other relevant errors.
Following your suggestion and search, I found this:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=158882
I uninstalled the vmware video driver (pacman -R local/xf86-video-vmware) and installed the vesa driver (pacman -S extra/xf86-video-vesa). Now the desktop is visible, but freezes after being visible. I'll try to revert to x.org 1.13 and retry. -
Gnome-globalmenu only shows app name - no menus
Hi,
I installed gnome-globalmenu from the AUR, but it only shows the app name ("Thunar", "Mousepad", etc), but no menus. I have tried this with xfce4-panel and gnome-panel.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks!

Defining a group of packages as (make-)dependency
Hello,
I would like do have a PKGBUILD depend on a whole group of packages. Group in the sense of pacman handles groups. Is this possible?Snowman wrote:
Try it to see if it works.
BTW, what do you want to package? I can't think of any reason why a package would depends on a group.
As you may gave guessed I tried and it did not work.
The backgrond of my wishes is not explaine in two words, but I will try.
There is an package named xindy in the aur. This package did not work for me due to some unrelated reasons. So I wrote my own PKGBUILD and finally succeeded. But in one step I got an LaTeX error concerning missing fontencodings, and found, that I missed some of them which are included in some packaeges installed by the texlive-lang group.
The maintainer seems to be a natively croatian-speaking person, an so I am guessing he has at least texlive-langcroatian installed on his computer. But it is difficult to find out which encodings are really needed and in which texlive-lang package these encodings are included. And so my first idea was to hav texlive-lang at least as an makedependancy.
I hope I explained it in an understandable way. -
[SOLVED] Updating a package with renamed dependency using yaourt
I am trying to update aur/python2-epd-oss using yaourt. The problem is that the installed version depends on biopython and the new one depends on python2-biopython. When yaourt tries to replace biopython with python2-biopython I get this:
:: python2-biopython and biopython are in conflict. Remove biopython? [y/N] y
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: python2-epd-oss: requires biopython>=1.57
and I never reach te point where aur/python2-epd-oss gets updated.
How should I update aur/python2-epd-oss? Is this a case to force the update?
Last edited by asafparis (2012-12-24 16:59:10)pacman -R python2-epd-oss
yaourt -Syua # and answer yes
yaourt -S python2-epd-oss
This isn't really yaourt specific, you'd need to do something like this whenever AUR dependencies change names.
Yaourt advertises that it manages dependencies ... but it doesn't really.

Creating dependent select list menus with javascript
Hi Everybody,
I m creating parent and child select list menu. Value of Child menu would be dependent on the value selected in the parent menu. I have tried to implement a code from adobe labs (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/149/tn_14924.html) but many strange javascript errors are coming up.

Welcome to the Arch Linux Newsletter. This attempts to give you an ``at
a glance'' look at the world of Arch Linux.

1. srcpac to support source building: Imagine if you could use pacman
to install binary packages as well as build those same packages
from source (with your own optimizations). Not only that, but
upgrades remembered which packages were precompiled and which were
compiled on the spot.
Now, imagine that pacman didn't actually handle it, because the
hard-core KISS people would complain too much and you wouldn't be
able to think while you watch gcc output fly by. Imagine instead a
wrapper around pacman that handled it for you.
Enter srcpac. Lights brighten, music comes to a peak, close up!
srcpac acts exactly the same as pacman (well, it should anyway),
except you get this little extra flag -b (or -build) tacked on to
-S (-sync) to build from source instead of install from a binary
package.
Let's see an example:
srcpac -Sb w3m will compile w3m, install it, and remember that it
was compiled
srcpac -Sybu will upgrade all the packages that need upgrading by
building them and remember that they were compiled (be careful
with this one, it will include packages that weren't previously
compiled).
srcpac -Syu will upgrade all binary packages by installing
binaries and upgrade all source packages by compiling from source.
srcpac -Qi w3m adds an extra line too, "Source", with a simple yes
or no.
You can install srcpac with pacman -S srcpac. From then on you
want to use srcpac instead of pacman.
I've also added the support for package configs. Have a look at
the example /etc/srcpac.conf entry.
The released version also adds the -o option to -S. This will
apply config changes and less the PKGBUILDs without doing any
building.
BEWARE: the -r option isn't fully implemented and may install to /
in some cases, I'm pretty sure I don't ever write to / when -r is
specified, but I can't be sure.

[SOLVED] abiword wants non-dependency gnome-vfs
I just ran $ pacman -Qdt, which brought up gnome-vfs, so I deleted it. Now if I try to run abiword, I get
abiword: error while loading shared libraries: libgnomevfs-2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I have paid attention to notices in updates, and found nothing for abiword. I did "pacman -Rns abiword abiword-plugins" and deleted .abisuite from home before reinstalling. No luck.
I suspect there's an (Arch) way to go without gnome-vfs, a bulky little thing, with its dependencies more than 2ce the size of abiword and its. Otherwise it would be a dependancy of abiword, right? Here's hoping.
Cheers

KDE applications in GNOME menus and vice versa
Hi,
I installed KDE and GNOME on my laptop. This is because I like them both, and they both have applications that I like.
The problem is that all KDE applications show up in the GNOME menus, and all GNOME applications show up in the KDE menus.
There is a hack explained at http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=26170 that "fixes" this, but it's kind of unusable because:
1) While it's rather easy to do this for KDE, when I install new KDE applications I have to do this again. It's easy because it's in /opt/kde
2) GNOME *.desktop is located in /usr/share/applications, and not only GNOME stores its .desktop files there. Makes it hard to ShowOnlyIn=GNOME there.
Ideally I'd have a directory called "KDE" in the GNOME menu, and vice versa. Is there any way to achieve this easily? Perhaps even the Arch Linux devs could make something like this the default? Right now menus do get very cluttered if you have more than one DE installed. Here's the thingie for gnome "directory" in KMenu. I don't know about the other way around.
