Going from Buffered IO to Direct
Hi,
I am running Essbase 9.3.1 Essbase on Sun Unix. I was trying to change the storage property of my application from Buffered to Direct.
I did the following
1. Stop the app
2. Reset the DB
3. Change the settings as shown below
4. Start the app
I have mentioned the following in
Disk Volume: /export/home/hyperion/Hyperion/AnalyticServices/app
Partition Size: Unlimited
Unit: KB
File Type: Data+Index
File Size: Default
Unit: KB
After doing this I went ahead to run my batch job. which does the following
1. Export level 0
2. Clear a scenario
3. Load data.
First 2 steps go on fine.. But I get the following error message when I try to load a data file.
Unable To Find Or Close [export/home/hyperion/Hyperion/AnalyticServices/app/MJTEST/FREV500B/ess00001.ind] For Database [FREV500B]
Essbase Internal Logic Error [7333]
I have checked that the path [/export/home/hyperion/Hyperion/AnalyticServices/app/ is a valid one...
Is there something else I should have done / not done ???

Indeed -- if you use a SAN, NAS, or virtually any RAID controller, you can expect reduced performance -- SIGNIFICANTLY reduced performance.
The reason is that it turns out that the OS (Windows in particular) is much better at handling the caches that exist on the hardware and dedicating system resources to the application will inevitably create additional delays by forcing the hardware to martial the data in and out of the application's address space. This is a function of DMA architecture that I'm not completely knowledgeable on, but the basics are simple enough for me to follow, if not explain very well. You are essentially adding another memory move into a process that used to just hand the data over to you directly (which is ironic given the names used -- Buffered is more direct and direct is "not so much", as it were). The impact is subtle on a small scale, but because the transfers are in relatively small "packets", it adds up a lot for essbase when you start hitting higher I/O counts.
Putting all the techno-jargon aside, even if you could get a performance gain from it, you aren't likely to get enough to justify the effort it takes. There is real money benefits associated with a "plug and play" mentality. The whole TCO concept is built around minimizing tweaking efforts like this requires. It would be different if just "turning the switch" made it work reliably in all hardware/software environments, but this is far from the reality.

There shouldn't be. I went from iOS5.whatever to iOS6.1 with no issues.
Just make sure to back everything up before you do it, just in case all doesn't go as planned.
I always do mine the old fashioned way, download the full OS via iTunes so if you've already got it linked to a computer and been using iTunes to do updates/syncing that's how I'd suggest you do it. -
Going From G4s to Duo 2 Core Questions
I'm going from 2 G4's to Duo 2 Cores (shipment to arrive early next week). Three questions to those who have already done it, to avoid problems:
1) I will import my data from the G4s to the new Macs via Target Disk Mode (no Migration to avoid bringing something over that might muck up the works).
Which computer should I boot into Target Disk Mode - the source (G4) or destination (Duo 2 Core)?
Should I boot into Target Disk Mode and then firewire connect, or firewire connect and then boot into TDM?
2) I currently use Office X (Word and Entourage) as my data staple; am upgrading with the purchase of the Duo 2 Cores to Office 2004.
How do I get my Office X Word and Entourage preferences (Normal Template; Address Book, etc) into Office 2004 once 2004 is loaded? Should I install the 2004 appliication onto the Duo 2 Cores, then copy over my Microsoft User Date from Office X (from the G4's to the new computers), then launch Office 2004 on the new computers and somehow import my prefernces; if so, how? If not, what's the best procedure?
3) I use Firefox as my main browser. I do a lot of public records research. Most public records are in PDF format. I currently use the PDF Browser Plug-in (private edition) for viewing. Is that a safe option for Intel Macs? If not, any alternatives suggested?

iMac CDRW1) I connected my new MacBook to my turned of PowerBook while the MacBook was on. Then I turned on the PowerBook booting into FireWire Target Disk Mode. BTW, I copied Library folder from my PowerBook onto the MacBook's desktop. The rest I just copied directly into my new MacBook personal directory. IOW I opened up both Document folders and copied from PowerBook to MacBook. I was more careful about what I copied from the old Library folder and I did just a little at a time so if trouble developed I could remember what I'd just copied in and remove it. This minimized the number of programs I had to reserialize and configure.
2) This is a good question - I bought MacOffice and used it with the PowerBook. I don't remember the process of moving in - whether it was done automatically or whether I was prompted for where to import files from. I just remember it being pretty painless. Perhaps the safest method would be to install Office on the old G4 first and get it all sorted out there first.
3) There's an Intel updated version of the plug-in available - I'm using it. -
I recently had to get a new computer.It required me going from windows xp to 7 I am trying to put it one the new computer but I get following message Windows installer could not be accessed could be in safe mode.How do I get around it? need it to charge my ipod on my computer.
I have used PCs for years, and still do at work. But, last year my wife bought me a 15" MBP with the anti-glare screen (I was getting ready to buy for myself). It took me all of 1 week to completely get used to the UI for OS-X, and now I really prefer it over the Win7 UI. I have no experience with Win8. Here are my thoughts:
1) You can get a good computer using either a Win8 machine or a Mac.
2) You will pay less for an equivalent PC. But not as much less as some would have you believe. You need to take into account the all aluminum body of the Mac (vs most PCs being plastic) and the size of the display. And, don't forget that there is a lot of bundled SW on the Mac that you will actually find useful and would have to purchase for the PC.
3) You can probably do everything you need on the PC platform with the right SW (you probably already know this since you are using one already).
That said, I think some things are easier on the Mac. For example, GarageBand is a standard part of the Mac SW installation. I got up and running recording directly from my bass into a track with a song imported from iTunes on another track in a snap. I only had to purchase a Jam adapter ($99) for the bass so I could come in over USB instead of using the audio in port (which did work, by the way). You can do the same on a PC, but you have to purchase the SW from somewhere. And, it probably isn't cheap.
I use VMware Fusion to run those Win programs I already owned because it was much less expensive to buy Fusion than to replace them.
I would not return to a PC for my own use, given a choice. But, I would be very careful about getting my wife a Mac without careful thought as she is not as tolerant of learning new things as I am.

Installed the update tonight and now my phone (Lumia 928) won't power up. I've tried a soft reset, but the screen goes from the Nokia logo to a red Verizon screen to a black screen. Tried it 10 times with the same result. What's wrong and how do I fix it? Help!

After iOS 7 update, my iPhone 4s Voice Memo App has 5 second delay when the record button is pressed. When it starts recording, it goes from 0 seconds to 5 or so seconds that it shows has recorded. This happens randomly and often, sometimes it will have the 5+ second delay but starts recording at zero seconds. Besides the delay it has been working fine as far as saving and playback is concerned. I have plenty of storage on the phone itself and it NEVER had this problem before I updated to iOS 7. I've reset the phone a couple times by holding down the power and home buttons at the same time. The reason I have an issue with this is that I'm always recording song ideas, melodies, and scratch takes; what I'm saying is when I come up with an idea I need to be able to know that when I hit record it will start right then so I don't forget anything that has just popped in my mind.
Does anyone have a solution or suggestion?

Data not going from active data table to new data table -DSO activation iss
Hi Experts,
Data is going from DSO1 to DSO2. I see some of the records are getting missed in DSO 2 which are supposed to come.
There is start routine from DSO1 TO DSO2 and as per the start routine some records should come but they are getting missed.
Apart from that..to DSO 2 there are 4 other DSO sending data.

If I copy the number in the notebook, all spaces are filled with % signs.

If I copy the number in the phone selection (above) the number can not be edited afterwards.You can dial a number appearing in an email by tapping on it.
But if you need to correct the number first you cannot edit a received email.
To edit the number tap on the forward symbol and when the draft comes up you should be able to correct the phone number, copy it and paste into your Phone App. Then delete the forward email without sending it. -
Blue screen of death, and continous reboot. Phone never actually boots up, just keeps going from reboot to blue screen and back again. Any suggestion?

I have an iPhone 3G, and cannot update my iOS. In the General tab, "Upadate Software" is not even there. It just goes from "About" to "Usage". When I try to update on iTunes, it always remains the same. iOS 4.2.1. Any suggestions? (My PC uses Windows XP). Also, my WiFi has completely quit working. Works fine on the other iPhones in the house, as well as the XBox 360, so I am sure it's my phone. I tried everything I could think of, including restoring the iphone to factory settings & then updating, but no luck. Thank you! for any help you can give! I plan to get an iPhone 5, but wasn't ready to do it quite yet. Hopefully my phone can be rescued until I'm ready.
That is the highest you will be able to go with 3g. You need 3gs or 4 to go any higher (multi processors and more memory needed). Version 4.2.1 marks the end of your updates for that device.

Yes you can probably delete the 2 incomplete back ups they are unlikely to work.
However, I'd be inclined to back up to a computer as well and restore from there, if you are changing your phone. -
How do I transfer all my Firefox saved passwords to my new hard drive and operating system? Going from xp to windows 7. I have the old hard drive hooked up as drive f. Can I copy and paste from old drive directory to new drive directory?
You need to copy 2 files, key3.db and signons.sqlite, from the old [[profiles|profile folder]] to the profile folder on the new computer.

I'm VERY happy with the results (fast!). However, the really strange thing is this - there is now a thin yellow line, way over on the right side of the screen, which goes from top to bottom, and stays there no matter where I go or what I do. I've never seen anything like this! It was not there before I did the upgrades. Anyone out there ever heard of such a preposterous thing ~ or have any ideas on how to get rid of it?
