Going online with two macs kills my internet connection!

Here is my situation. I have two macs an iMac and a MacBook.
I use Earthlink, have a BritePort modem and "HAD" Linksys wireless router. Everything was fine. No problems. I was able to get online with the two computers with ease, then I had problems connecting last week. If I went directly through the modem to my MacBook I can connect, but I would lose the internet intermittently throughout the day if i didn't.
Earthlink said everything was fine as far as signal reaching my modem. So I bought an Airport Extreme thinking it was the router. Both Macs connected wirelessly on their own but then I'd lose internet whenever BOTH tried to get online at the same time.
I would be working fine on my MacBook, but once my wife tries to get online with the iMac, it kicks us both off! If she's online on the iMac and I try to get online on the MacBook it kicks us off! This is what was happening with the Linksys too! I reconnected it, and it was only when both Macs accessed the internet that we both lost (or were fighting for) connection.
What is going on?

Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
What's the model number of your BritePort modem? When you examine the configuration of your AirPort Extreme using AirPort Utility, in the Internet panel, Internet Connection tab, what are the settings for "Connect Using" and "Connection Sharing"?

  • Sharing files between two macs over the internet

I'm trying to work out how to connect two macs across the internet and am wondering if someone could point me in the direction of a "very basic , step by step, how to" file or manual.
I've browsed some of the discussion in this forum and some are more helpful than others but none seem to start with the very basics of what should or should not be turned on in the firewall settings and the the security issues mentioned in one ot two threads.
I'm not looking for " hold my hand tutorial" just a pointer to where I can do some more reading so I can inform myself and possibly ask some emore intelligent questions
I'm trying to connect a B&W G3, OSX 10.4.6, connect to the internet through a dsl modem over an ethernet network, to a remote Imac G5 , OSX 10.4.6 also connected through a different dsl modem over an ethernet network.

  • How can i pay on the apple store online with two credit cards, with two different billing addresses

I will be greatful if you could answer me this question...
How can i pay on the apple store online with two credit cards, with two different billing addresses?
I know that you can use two credit cards to pay an item but the problem is that i can only put the billing address of just one of the credit cards, and since the two cards are from different people (my parents) i can't do it. They live in the same place so i don't know if i should just put one of the billing address.
    Thank you.
PS. I don't know if this is the right community to ask this, sorry if i'm wrong.

On the Apple Store "Payment & Pricing" page it states:
Using more than one payment card
You can also combine payment methods to pay for your purchase. Choose from the following combinations of credit cards and Apple Gift Cards:
Credit card(s) - up to two
Apple Gift Card(s) - up to eight
Apple Gift Card(s) + one credit card
During checkout, if you are paying with a gift card issued by a credit card company, you can combine it with one credit card.

The special offer for the printer that is going on with a Mac, how does that work? Is it true i can get a free printer?

you pay for it up front, and they give you a rebate or $99, so if you buy a $99 printer from them (Epson Stylus NX430 Small-in-One Color Inkjet Printer $99.95) then the printer becomes free. You can not get this deal unless you also buy a mac with it.

This issue can be caused by a corrupt local snapshot index. The procedure below will temporarily disable local snapshots and force the index to be rebuilt.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    sudo tmutil disablelocal
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command.
    To re-enable:
    sudo tmutil enablelocal

  • Everytime I turn on Outlook, it kills my internet connection and I have to reboot the router

As the title says, each time I turn on Outlook with Office 365, it kills my internet connection and I have to reboot the router. I can still login to the router admin and do a soft reboot. This kills the internet for all the computers on my network as well.
The weird exception to this is when I'm connected to my work VPN, then everything is fine.  Also, should be noted, it never did this at first...then started doing it randomly and stopped after a while...now a few months later, it started doing it agian.
Is there some sort of weird port forwarding I should be using?
I'm running through an Exchange server.
    Windows 7 Pro
    Router is a D-Link 857 - HD Media Router 3000..running latest firmware.
Everything is setup standard. No firewalls except the standard Windows firewall and the router is a really basic config.
Please any insight would be great!

    Hello AyaTheBookWorm,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
I can definitely understand how this is frustrating, I would feel the same way.  To troubleshoot this issue please see the steps below, as well as checking out the Wireless Diagnostics.
Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly
Your Mac may not not stay connected to your Wi-Fi network reliably.
Your Mac may stop accessing the Internet during use.
    Solution
Use these steps if your computer disconnects from its Wi-Fi network unexpectedly.
Check your range to the Wi-Fi router and reduce the effect of interference.
If your computer is too far from your Wi-Fi router or your environment has too much Wi-Fi interference, then your computer may not detect the Wi-Fi network properly. The easiest way to check for range limits with your Wi-Fi network is to move your computer or your Wi-Fi router closer together and make sure that there are no obstructions (such as walls, cabinets, and so forth) between the router and your computer.
See Potential sources of wireless interference for more information about interference and solutions.
Try connecting to a different Wi-Fi network. If your computer works fine when connected to a different Wi-Fi network, then the issue may be related to your network router or ISP. In that case, contact the manufacturer of your router or your ISP.

  • Starting iSight kills my internet connection- why?

Every time I start using iSight on my Macbook it kills my internet connection. I've tried with Skype, Yahoo IM, and even Chat Roulette but I always lose internet connection as soon as I start using it. My Macbook is almost 5 years old but have never had a problem before. This just started recently. I haven't switched internet providers or anything either. Please help, it's really frustrating.

Changing your router channel number may help.  If not, see the following KB Article:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 How to Troubleshoot iSight

  • Current iTunes upgrade kills ALL internet connection to computer

I'm using iTunes on Windows XP SP3.  Previous versions were not a problem.  I upgraded to the current version (11.0.2) and lost all internet connectivity, not just to the iTunes store, but to ALL applications; my computer reported that NO internet connection was present at all.  Doing a system restore resolved this, but the upgrade left some remnant that has rendered the previously working version of iTunes inoperable; when I execute it, it suggests I download the current version to correct the problem, but of course that kills my internet connection altogether and thus is not a solution.
Googling this has indicated fixes involving:
    1) Deleting the iTunesPrefs.XML file
    --> That didn't work.
    2) A solution involving executing "netsh winsock reset" at the command prompt and then rebooting.
    --> That didn't work either.
In fact, nothing I could find online worked.  I am NOT using Norton, McAfee, or any other anti-virus or firewall that would be causing the conflict.  Again, I'm using Windows XP SP3, and have a direct internet feed into my computer.
What can be done to fix this?  Currently I cannot use iTunes at all on my computer because of the upgrade and the havoc it's caused (the System Restore did NOT restore the previous working version of iTunes; when I execute it, it claims a component is missing and I should download and install the current version...)
    Many thanks in advance,
    Tom

  • App Store does not load & kills the internet connection

    Hello I'm currently using MBP 13' 2011 v. 10.7.2.
App Store window pops up after opening, but nothing actually shows up. It shows as if it is trying to load the App Store with the spinning indicator, but the app remains empty. Not only it does not load, it also kills whatever internet connection I've attempted on Safari. YouTube videos stop loading once App Store opens, for example.
    Please help.
    Thanks.

  • Is there a way that I can control iTunes with the iPhone without any internet connections?

First let me say that I am ready to throw this POS in the lake.  Is there a way that I can control iTunes with my iPhone without any internet connections?  On my houseboat I have a wifi router and want to connect my phone to my computer to control my music which plays from my computer through my stereo.  I can easily do it with my laptop without having to jump through any internet APPLE BS , but I dont want to have my laptop out on the deck. I just want to use the phone as a remote control.
Remote wont do it because it keeps saying Im not connected to the internet, even though is is connected to my computer.  Same problem with JumiAmp.

It should have an option to manage iTunes library without network connection, like Bluetooth or connect directly to the computer without a router or wi-fi, i live outsite of the city and i dont have the ability to control my iTunes librry from the iphone

  • Can the MacBook Air work with any other type of internet connection beside wifi?

Can the MacBook Air work with any other kind of internet connection besides Wifi?

Who? ITS VERY important when doing a restore, in fact you DO NOT want to do a wifi restore
The pros all have that Ethernet adapter,... that should tell you something. An Ethernet restore via that "thing" makes restoring the OSX about 8X faster.
Its called a Gigabit Ethernet adapter for a reason.
"who the heck" is anyone working with their Macbook Air at home and want a MUCH FASTER download / internet connection.
*Stockbrokers who pack their Macbook Air, arrive at work and plug that "hardwired" dongle to their Air........  because even seconds in the stock market can make the difference between losing a million $$, or making a million $$
So now you know WHY,.....before you didnt.

Power off the router. Wait awhile. Power it back on. Wait until all the lights are lit up properly.

Can I go online with my ipad using my iphone connection?

If your phone carrier supports it (and it may be an extra fee/subscription), then yes you can use the iPhone's personal hotspot function to share its connection with the iPad - the iPad should see the phone as a wifi network.

  • Safari Killing My Internet Connection?

    Ok, here is the background:
I usually run 2 internet browsers...Opera 9.26 is my primary browser, and I've been using Safari for items that Opera cannot correctly or sufficiently provide (usually Gmail, Facebook, CNN, and 1 or 2 other sites) I also run iChat and Colloquy as other internet-use apps.
For the past 1-2 weeks, Safari, I believe, has intermittently killed my internet connection. Usually it will be loading a local newspaper website or acting strangely on Facebook...then it will start to be very slow, the rainbow sphere will appear, and my internet will die...as in, nothing on Opera works, iChat disconnects, etc.
Today was exceptionally bad as it kept happening every few seconds. I had to switch to Camino for Gmail, Facebook, and CNN...and this resolved the problem.
Any idea at all? Is this happening to anyone else?

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
DNS server codes seem to remedy the page loading lag. Follow these steps:
Go to the System Preferences>Network panel
    - Location - set up a personal location by clicking on the location drop down menu and selecting "add a location". Use a name familiar to you. Once established, select "apply".
    - Next, click on the "Show" drop down menu and select Network Port Configurations. Depending on whether you use Ethernet or Airport (wireless) for your setup: Only Ethernet or Airport ought to be checked. Move it to the top of the list (you can drag it). Select "apply". Everything else ought to be unchecked unless you use a Bluetooth device.
    - Back to the "Show" menu, select either "Ethernet" or "Airport" (whichever applies to you). Click on the TCP panel. There, on separate lines in the DNS servers box enter Verizon's public DNS server codes: 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2.
    Select "apply".
    Restart Safari or Camino.
