Golden Gate with Highly Normalized Data

Hi All
How good and robust is Golden Gate when trying to replicate highly normalized data? Has it been used for any Oracle EBS modules as HR or Payroll ever?
Thanks

This is exactly what it was designed to do. It works with Oracle EBS perfectly well with the exception of AQ tables and the ANYDATA datatype.
Good luck,
-joe

  • Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) vs Oracle Golden Gate

    We are about to start a new data warehouse project, which will require a data integration product and have the following questions:
    - ODI provides near real-time data warehousing support: - What is the difference between ODI's near-realtime data warehousing features and Oracle Golden Gate's real-time data integration?
    - How does Oracle Golden Gate achieve Real-time Data Integration? (What kind of non-invasive techniquire/procedures/processes does it use to achieve Real-time Data Integration?
    - Obviously with Oracle Golden Gate being the superior Data Integration product, what is the future of ODI?
    - Is there any product convergence planned for ODI and Oracle Golden Gate by Oracle corp. in the near/far future?
    - Most importantly, what product should we use to implement the new project: ODI or Oracle Golden Gate?
    - What is the easier product to learn/implement: ODI or Oracle Golden Gate?
    Others, please feel free to add to the above questions/concerns.
    Thanks for all your help.

    Hi,
    I tried to install the essbase driver adapter on ODI, but I can't connect to Essbase using topology manager. Anyone know about essbase drivers for ODI. I used ODI 10.1.3.4.

  • Golden Gate configuration with 12c Database

    Hi,
    I have a requirement to configure the golden gate with oracle database 12c with container database.
    Versions:
    Golden Gate - 12.1.2.1.0
    Oracle Database - 12.1.0.2
    Here we need to configure with container database and two pluggable database.
    Kindly suggest me the steps for configuration.
    Regards
    Kumar

    Hello Kumar,
    I  think you need to do the same setup as other GG versións :
    1. Install Golden Gate software on extract/replicat sites
    2. Create GG User with the necesary  privs.
    3. Set Min Logging level  at database level.
    4. Set TRANDATA for the tables that you like capture changes
    After, you need analyze the objects that you need replicate and define the capture process.
    To use GG on a MultiTenant Database, you need  define at extract level the PDBs and the objects that you need extract. Remeber that in a Multi-tenant enviorment, only a set of redo logs exists, then the capture process is Multi-Tenant aware, because allow
    set the PDB and the schema and the objects that you like capture. It is called qualified three-part name, PDB.SCHEMA.TABLE
    Example:
    SOURCECATALOG FINANCE TABLE SAP.*;  ---> Source is the way to inlcude the PDB
    TABLE REPORTS.*;
    SOURCECATALOG HR TABLE SIEBEL.*;
    TABLE REPORTS.*;
    SOURCECATALOG MFG
    TABLE CUSTOMER.ORDERS;
    TABLE REPORTS.*;
    TABLE HQ.LOCATIONS.*;
    In this example, Extract captures the following:
    All tables in the SAP and REPORTS schemas in the FINANCE PDB.
    All tables in the SIEBEL and REPORTS schemas in the HR PDB.
    All tables in the CUSTOMER and REPORTS schemas in the MFG PDB.
    For the last TABLE statement, Extract captures all tables in the LOCATIONS schema in the HQ PDB. This statement is a fully qualified three-part name and overrides the previous SOURCECATALOG specification.
    You have more info at : http://docs.oracle.com/goldengate/1212/gg-winux/GWURF/gg_parameters147.htm
    Also, you have a dedicated chapter of using GG in a Multi-Tenant env at:  https://docs.oracle.com/goldengate/1212/gg-winux/GIORA/config_containerdb.htm#BDCFDFDE
    I hope help.

  • WHY SUCH AN INJUSTICE THAT BBM CANNOT BE USED ON MY CURVE 9300 OVER NORMAL DATA SERVICE AND OTHER PLATFORMS CAN USE!

    Hello,
    I am using Blackberry Curve 9300. I purchased this phone for Rs. 17,250 before some 3 years, I considered RIM to be a Company providing premium services which is unique in itself and which worth spending on them and the most important thing is those are not available to non-blackberry users! Especially in case of Blackberry Messenger, which is such a service connecting all the blackberry users around the world, making a mark of precious symbol of the users of BBM.
     Before few days I came to know about BBM being available on Android and Windows phones, my question is why this injustice with your own customers, you provide the app which they will use with their normal data plan and we people who are your real customers, who trusted in you have to spend not less than Rs.129 for just BBM!I must say RIM is the most back-stabbing company I have had ever dealt with! People are laughing at us as they are using the same service for almost free and we have to spend a huge sum for availing the same service, my question is are these non blackberry people your customers or we people who contributed in your success with hopes of trust?
    My question is not why you made available BBM usage to non-blackberry users with such flexibility but my question is why can't you be loyal to your own customers?
    I hope that RIM would have a pleasing justification.

    Thanks with the signature but I already removed it from my profile too.
    I was never under a rock when it comes to technology I know that in India before few months yoru Blackberry Z10 was Rs.44,000 and now it is Rs.21,000. I understand the ploy of making BBM cross platform to generate revenue, first in a technical sense and another by creating it advrtisement in the marker.
    Do you think that taking an undue advantage of our loyaty and enduring the mockery of your own customer would take you anywhere? Don't you think that abusing your own customer's prestige would even affect you negatively? While your customer is paying Rs.129 for just BBM the Android person sitting next to him is lauging at him for he paid you and call him fool! Profits doesn't starts only by making huge business decisions but from the loyal and satisfied customers. You may always find customers all around always complaining but deep down if you have touched their needs they will bless you with good words at your back, maybe in such a way that you will never come to kow but it will grow you more. I am not here to deliver you a marketing lecture as i am in corporate law field but let me tell you what I read during my graduation, it said something like one disatisfied customer can discourage ten potential customers from buying your product and I have started feeling the same in case of online shopping but I do not know when the company giant blackberry would come to know!
    When you said about expanding customer base, think about a company who is expanding its base of customers by disatisfing their current customers who always took pride in you by providing them services at harsh terms and in front of their eyes others are getting benefits at a very low cost.
    Our family business is textile manufacturing, not as big as blackberry but we always knew that if we will start selling our goods by describing them as really premium goods and start charging out of lips and bounds, of course my product could be premium worth the price but one thing I could be missing would be a point of finance, there could be cheaper alternatives in market which could be selling at lower price which same usage. My concern is just to keep our eyes open.
    Now consider a phone on which I can use Whatsapp which satisfies my messaging needs, gtalk and yahoo messengers for my im needs, push mails for emails, browsing and downloading for just Rs.99 and on the other hand Blackberry services for Rs.389, it is indeed clear the reason of downfall, though it is labelled as premium service and indeed it could be, permium service as I said earlier.
    When you feel that your boat is sinking, you do not have only have to pull out the waters but on the priority basis you have to cover the hole too! Blackberry is just pulling out the water leaving the hole as it is!
    If you say that legacy mode in BBOS could bother you  from providing BBM for BB device, you know that it cannot be and even I know that, any technical person can know that as it is a little secret that I can use BB browser without BIS and many other apps are example of the same (to be a bit informal). See, I never asked this thing from last three years but now when you are making it cross platform why not to give a little benefits to those who paid you till now, if you can give it to those who are nothign to you?
    My question is that why can't you provide BBM to be used on the normal data paln for your own old and loyal customers who paid you such a handsome amount from many years for your services as how you provide on other platform, just for BBM not email and rest of your services?

  • Which column changed? - ... or TARGET_COLMAP$ for Golden Gate

    Hi all,
    I have created something similar to CDC using Golden Gate, with all the changes in the source table inserted into a target table with operation marker @GETENV("GGHEADER","OPTYPE")
    It is all good up to this point.
    Now, I need to know which particular column(s) has changed and store this information and I cannot find any way of achieving it.
    I need some sort of change marker, something similar to TARGET_COLMAP$ in CDC.
    Is it possible in Golden Gate to figure out what column has changed?
    Cheers!

    Please, move this question into the Database general forum. CDC had nothing to do with Database Migration Assistant for Unicode.

  • Data Guard Vs Golden Gate

    Hi Experts,
    I am looking for High Availability and Disaster Recovery architecture for my data layer i.e. Oracle Database 11g R2
    We have two physical locations and the distance between two sites is around 20 miles.
    Site 1:
    We already implemented RAC setup with two node in site 1.
    Site 2:
    We are going to implement standalone database. (Not RAC)
    My requirements:
    1. Both databases at Site 1 & Site 2 should be replica of each other.
    2. Both databases should be in sync always.
    3. Site 1 is active and Site 2 is stand by.
    4. Client applications on Site 1 & Site 2 should always talk to RAC database on Site1.
    5.. If RAC at site 1 goes down completely, then ONLY client apps should connect to Site2 database without human intervention.
    How can acheive my requirement ? I was doing some research & found two solutions. 1. Active Data Guard 2. Golden Gate.
    Questions:
    1. Do Data Guard and Golden Gate offers same features ?
    2. Which products offers solutions to all my requirements or Do I need to use both ?
    3. If Data Guard and Golden Gate are different from each other then What is the difference between them and what are the overlapping features among them ?
    Thanks

    1. Do Data Guard and Golden Gate offers same features ?No, there's simple compare here :
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/availability/dataguardgoldengate-096557.html
    2. Which products offers solutions to all my requirements or Do I need to use both ?Data Guard will work and you don't need anything else. I cannot speak to Golden Gate.
    3. If Data Guard and Golden Gate are different from each other then
    What is the difference between them and what are the overlapping features among them ?Again this document :
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/availability/dataguardgoldengate-096557.html
    1. Both databases at Site 1 & Site 2 should be replica of each other.
    Data Guard can do this.
    2. Both databases should be in sync always.
    Data Guard can do this.
    3. Site 1 is active and Site 2 is stand by.
    Data Guard can do this.
    4. Client applications on Site 1 & Site 2 should always talk to RAC database on Site1.
    You can set your tnsnames to handle this and more. Using DBMS_SERVICE you can create an alias
    to handle this.
    Ex.
    ernie =
    (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS_LIST =
           (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = primary.host)(PORT = 1521))
           (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = standby.host)(PORT = 1521))
           (CONNECT_DATA =
           (SERVICE_NAME = ernie)
    )5. If RAC at site 1 goes down completely, then ONLY client apps should connect to Site2 database without human intervention.
    You can set your tnsnames to handle this and more.

  • FYI - High precision data issue with sdo_anyinteract on 11.2.0.3 with 8307

    For anyone that may happen to be experiencing issues with SDO_ANYINTERACT on 11.2.0.3 with high-precision geodetic data, I currently have a service request in to fix it.
    The issue we have is with locating small polygons ("circles" from 0.5"-4") in the 8307 space. The metadata we have specifies a 1mm tollerance for this data, which has worked fine since (as I remember) 10.1. Support verified it works fine up to 11.2.0.2, then is broken in 11.2.0.3.
    So if you are pulling your hair out - stop. ;-) The SR# is 3-5737847631, and the bug# (will be) 14107534.
    Bryan

    Here is the resolution to this issue...
    Oracle came back and said what we have at that tolerance is unsupported and we were just lucky for it to have worked all these years. They are not going to fix anything because it technically isn't broke. We pointed out that the documentation is a little unclear on what exactly supports higher precision, and they noted that for future updates.
    When asked if they would entertain a feature request for a set of high-precision operators (basically the old code) in future release - they basically said no. So for the few items that we much have higher precision - we are on our own.
    What still makes us puzzled is that apparently no one else is using high-precision data in lat/lon. Amazing, but I guess true.
    Anyhow, here is what we used to use (up to 11.2.0.3) which worked fine at a 1mm tollerance:
    Where mask_geom is:
    mask_geom      :=
             sdo_geometry (2001,
                           8307,
                           sdo_point_type (x_in, y_in, 0),
                           NULL,
                           NULL);
    SELECT copathn_id
      INTO cpn
      FROM c_path_node a
    WHERE     sdo_anyinteract (a.geometry_a2, mask_geom) = 'TRUE'
           AND node_typ_d = 'IN_DUCT'
           AND ROWNUM < 2;Basically this finds indexed geometry and compares it to a single mask geometry (a simple point for the x/y given). Only one row is returned (in case they overlapped duct openings - not normal).
    Since this no longer returns any rows reliably for items less than 5cm in size, here is our work-around code:
    SELECT copathn_id
      INTO cpn
      FROM (  SELECT copathn_id,
                     node_typ_d,
                       ABS (ABS (x_in) - ABS (sdo_util_plus.get_mbr_center (a.geometry_a2).sdo_point.x))
                     + ABS (ABS (y_in) - ABS (sdo_util_plus.get_mbr_center (a.geometry_a2).sdo_point.y))
                        distdiff
                FROM c_path_node a
               WHERE sdo_nn (a.geometry_a2,
                             mask_geom,
                             'distance=0.05 unit=m') = 'TRUE'
            ORDER BY distdiff)
    WHERE node_typ_d = 'IN_DUCT'
       AND ROWNUM < 2;Essentially we use sdo_nn to return all results (distance usually is 0) at the 5cm level. At first we though just this would work - then we found that in many cases it would we return multiple results all stating a distance of 0 (not true).
    For those results we then use our own get_mbr_center function that returns the center point for each geometry, and basically compute a delta from the given x_in,y_in and that geometry.
    Then we order the results by that delta.
    The outer select then makes sure the row is of the correct type, and that we only get one result.
    This works, and is fast (actually it is quicker than the original code).

    Although it is true that Golden Gate & Data Guard have a different main purpose, they can very well be used during an upgrade rsp. a migration to minimize the associated downtime.
    See for example how Data Guard can be used to minimize downtime for upgrade here:

    hi all,
    how to select data from different database tables with high performance.
    im using for all entries instead of inner joins, even though burden on data base tables is going very high ( 90 % in se30)
    hw to increase the performance.
    kindly, reply.
    thnks

    Also Check you are not using open sql much like distict order by group by , use abap techniques on internal table to acive the same.
    also Dont use select endselect.
    if possible use up to n rows claus....
    taht will limit the data base hits.
    also dont run select in siode any loops.
    i guess these are some of the trics oyu can use to avoid frequent DATA BASE HITS AND ABVOID THE DATA BASE LAOD.
