Good Experience with Install

I ordered a Triple Play Bundle in August and just got the install yesterday.  It was a long wait due to the strike but I had a Cox cable bundle already which the contract was up on so I rode that out for 2 months without bundle pricing.  The install time was between 8-12 am and the tech arrived at 0930. He removed older wiring and junction box from the home that must have been the previous copper line.  New line was run and all the installation was inside.  The install took about 3 hours and the tech was polite and kept me informed most of the way.  The install was neat and everything worked fine.  He took the time to explain things and asked if I had any questions.  If I was to pick on one thing, he didn't vacuum the sheetrock dust from installing the ONT in my finished basement.
I received a new QIP7232 2 for my HD/DVR, a basic STB for the kitchen area and an Actiontec MI424-WR Rev F router.  I only signed up for Prime, 15/5 and Digital unlimited phone for now to see how this goes.  It is substantially cheaper than my bundled Cox was and my internet speeds have been consistently above (upload) the 15/5, where Cox would drop pretty low at busy times of the day/night.  The picture seems much better, unsure if it is due to Fios itself or the Cox DVR not having an HDMI port and having to use Composite AV cables.  The remote has no Aux buttons for my Blue Ray player so I had to dig out the original controller.  The basic STB in the kitchen's picture was leaps and bounds better than the direct Cox coax to that TV.  I had several episodes of Cox Digital phone dying over the last 6 months with Cox having to come about 5 times to try and fix it.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything works out with Fios and there are no billing issues.
This install was in Rhode Island.  Canceling Cox was an experience as well as dropping their equipment off.

  • Has anyone had a good experience with the 4.2 install?

I only see negative reports posted. Is anyone's upgraded iPad working correctly?

Based on the lack of negative reports in the broader media, I'd say 99% of upgrades are probably working flawlessly. Remember, the media love to jump down Apple's throat for any perceived flaw, as they did for the iPhone antenna issue. No, I'd say so far this is among Apple's more problem-free launches.
As others have noted, this is a tech support forum. Gauging the overall experience of those installing 4.2 by reading the messages here is akin to taking a poll at your local emergency room and concluding that the entire population is sick.

  • Has anyone had a good experience with iPhoto 6?

After reading all these posts, I'm afraid to install iPhoto 6. Are these problems an aberration, or are most mac users experience these problems?

iPhoto 6 has installed and run well for me,, EXCEPT,, the only new feature that I've tried is Photocasting. I made a Photocast, and then subscribed to it myself to test how it would work. I was able to do it although I was surprised how long it took,, about 45 minutes to upload (36 images.. and I have cable/broadband). It downloaded much quicker of course, about 15 minutes. Then,, I "announced the address to 120 friends and acquaintances. Out of all of them (these are people who ALL respond back to my communications right away) so far I have heard from about 5 - 10, only ONE of them could figure out how to view it. So essentially, I annoyed everyone with the product. Sounds cool in the Apple demonstration,, but as a practical matter,, probably best to skip using it. I certainly hope that the other iWeb applications work better but I haven't tried them yet.

  • How do I find and install a previous version of iTunes?  I had a terrible experience with installing Yosemite, which I de-installed by reverting to a Time Machine backup prior to installation.  iTunes did not revert.

After totally hosing up my mid-2011 MacBook Pro with a Yosemite installation, I retrieved Mavericks from Time Machine.  It worked fine, except iTunes stayed the current (Yosemite) version.  I ran the 8.1.2 update on my iPhone 5c this morning, and it refused to restore at the end of the process.  Fortunately I own a Not Updated Mac Air and an iPhone 4s, so (with a very helpful ATT tech support person) was able to get the 5c back.  Any ideas?

Sometimes this works - try putting the new iTunes if a folder and see if you can install it. You might have to re-index Spotlight.

Can you restore it from your backup?

  • Is there anyone who has good experience with the E...

I'm a current owner of E72 with a multitude of problems which i'm tired out talking about. Anyway, I'm thinking of upgrading to the E6, because of it's price in my country and also because i'm familiar with nokia phones' symbian platforms. Initially i did not want to buy any nokia products anymore, but I want to give it another go because of the mentioned reasons and also due to my E72 frustrating me every other day. In addition, my few other options are android touchphones and i really dislike full fleged touchphones, not to mention their battery life. My other option is the Blackberry which has no front facing camera which i need making video calls, so I'm really looking at the E6. I've read so many horror stories in this thread that i'm really worried that i'll get a lemon, so I want to read some positive stories or some judicious pros and cons, before taking the plunge! Please help thank you!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I have owned my E6 for over 3 months and after the weekends new firmware (025) the phone now is almost perfect.
The audio quality for music is good and voice calls is the best that you can find, even in noizy environments.
Battery endurance is very good now, perhaps 80-100 hours in moderate use.
Also the former problem with backlight is now corrected by Nokia.
After the firmware the phone is very fast, I mean this cincerely. Also it seems that connectivity over 3G or WLAN is 100% perfect now.
The vibration is perhaps a little weak for men, but woman can feel it...I tested it various ways.... Nokia will solve this matter also.
Forgotten things, that is really good is removable battery, hot-swoppable memory card and the the feeling of handling the phone.
Not a single scratch or dust problem after 3 months...
The RAM-memory seems to be enough for everything I am doing.
The graphic and the 1GB ROM-memory certainly makes the Nokia E6 competent.
The qwerty is really amazing and the screen also, after experimenting with font magnifier (using 119%) and the size in the web browsers and of course the phone settings for font size have actually made this E6 excellent. It took me some time to be satisfied with the settings, but I am now more than happy with mine.
As said, the program RemindMe is useful for light indicators for sms/mms, emails and calls. That solve that issue to me and even if Nokia built-in will be better in the next firmware I stil wouldn´t quit the remindMe.
Finally, the camera is also more than good, the lack of autofocus doesn´t disturb me at all. I never take photos of small documents with the camera.
I have to say, just buy it after this latest firmware, and then add those applications that you need for productivity. The applications I use you can see here below.
I uninstalled the F-secure firewall/antivirus that caused some strange behaviors in early august, especially when I connected to a server with the built-in filebrowser (webdav).
PS Mine have never restarted and I can´t remember a hang. DS

  • Anyone here have good experience with iPhone compatible Ip Cameras?

    Hi
i wanted to know if anyone here actually owns a decent camera they can recommend with a iPhone that records to SD remotely or when motion detection is activated (remotely), has night vision, an zoom tilt or simply works so good and you can use a few at the same time.
i tried a few lower end linkseys and d-links models as well as rimax fixed and wireless models, all which where a mess to set up since the software was written for PCs and some only ran on internet Explorer which does not exist on mac osx any more.
    So please let me know
    Cheers

How does working in wide screen seem when you want full pages?
I have a Dell 20+ (24", I think) at the office. It is 9:16 ratio and a delight to use with InDesign. I regularly compose with binding in mind, so this allows me to have pallets open and view the full spread at the same time. However, if you are needing large type on your icons and menu bars, then you will lose a lot of real estate. I'm not sure you will be able to get the full benefit I receive. I have the resolution set to the monitor's native resolution.
At home, I work with a 15" laptop (9:16) and a second monitor (4:3) that is the same width as the laptop. The second monitor is an LCD and very old (hardware age), so it doesn't do well at the same resolution the laptop does. But the laptop is shorter than the old monitor. Anyway, I do my page view on the laptop because of the better resolution. I put all my menus and pallets on the other monitor. This works well.

  • Good experience with 10.7.3

I waited to upgrade from 10.6.8 which was very solid till 10.7.3 was out and my tax returns were submitted.
I downloaded Lion 10.7.3 from the Mac App store, made a copy on a DVD to use on my wife's iMac later, and did the install.  All went smoothly.  When it booted back up, Crashplan triggered a download for Java so the Crashplan software could run.  That went smoothly.
All in all, upgrading to 10.7 from 10.6 has been the easiest OS X upgrade I've done yet.  I like how Lion works with my Apple touchpad and got used to the like-iOS scrolling after a few days.  10.7 seems faster on my early 2011 iMac also.  The only problem I have currently is that the last Java update has caused a problem with Webex desktop sharing but I'm using that less now since I've started using LogMeIn to do remote support of Windows systems.  I find full screen display in Safari quite nice for some sites, and think file Autosave in Numbers is great idea too.
I'm looking forward to 10.8 to have Airplay available to send from my iMac to the Apple TV device so we can watch Daily Show on the bigger screen.

Both happily coexist under Windows.  I assume it'd be the same for Macs.

  • Good experience with Genieo ?

i recently downloaded the genieo software and i must say it works fine for me, but when i looked for reviews about the product i came a cross some results of malware , am i missing something ? is it a malware ?
    thanks

It's not actually malware, but it is something that changes browser behavior and is often installed without the user's explicit consent by being bundled with other software. It is in a class of software that is generally questionable, and collects data on the user's browsing habits. This is done not just for the user's benefit, but also for marketing purposes.
If what Genieo does is useful to you, does not cause any problems with your system and you are willing to trust that company with personal information, then there's no major reason to remove it.

  • Good experience with pioneer 111-d dvd burner

Just receieved and installed a pioneer 111-d dvd burner. I got this from
newegg for about $37 shipped. It was fairly easy to install and was plug and play(recognized by my computer) with no need to install drivers or patches.
Just burned a dvd under 5 minutes. My older pioneer 604 burner burned at 1 speed and it took about an hour to burn a dvd.

Finally discovered the cause of my problem. I sent the DVD burner back to Mac Sales and when they tested it they found it failed to pass. They sent me a replacement unit and now everything works fine.

  • Have any of you had a good experience with Straight Talk unlimited data

I am so sick of feeling like I am getting the shaft from Verizon.  Is it worth moving to Straight Talk or even Sprint?  I use 2 to 6gb per month.
    Thanks,

Did you get this resolved? I am having the same problem.

  • Grey screen issue with 10.5 & 10.5.1 - bad experience with Leopard

Here's a quick overview of my bad experience with installing Leopard:
*1st attempt:* Upgraded Tiger 10.4.10, was greeted with the blue screen. This was an APE issue.
*2nd attempt:* Archive and installed above install. This is where the continuing issue first occurred. The issue being on the first or second reboot after a 'successful' installation, I get the grey screen and spinning gear loop. In verbose mode I see this recurring loop:
    Mez com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.nDNSResponder |xxx|) : posix_spawnp("usr/sbin/mDNSResponder", ...): No such file or directory
xxx = incremental value, it adds 1 each time the error cycles, which happens roughly ever 10 seconds).
Additionally, Disk Utility reports this error: Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit.
*3rd attempt:* Erase and install. Same issue as 2nd attempt occured.
*4th, 5th, 6th attempts:* Bought a brand new hard drive to replace the old one. This was an idea that was raised on another one of my threads. People thought I could have bad sectors. Tried upgrading and archive install from 10.4, no. Erase and install, no. Same issue as before.
*7th attempt:* Tried swapping out the RAM from a friends MBP (who has successfully upgraded to Leopard). No, same failure as before.
*8th attempt:* Tried using his Leopard disk. NO!
*9th attempt:* My last attempt so far... Erase and install, then applied the 10.5.1 update. It all went well, but it always has, until the point where I reboot. It successfully rebooted once, but to be sure all was fine (before using the migration assistant) I rebooted again... Oh what a surprise, it doesn't work anymore. Same enraging loop.
*Any new ideas people, I have faith that there is some genius out there who can provide me with a solution. I will love you forever if you can help me.*
*Quick question:* Do other people see the dialogue box that appears before the computer restarts...
"Updating Boot Caches - The Boot caches are being updated, the system will shutdown when this task is complete" (It's sort of along those lines. I don't have enough time to write down exactly what it says)??
Oh well, back to my newest backup (10.4.11).
    *Fingers crossed for 10.5.2 :D*

    THANK YOU!!! At least preliminarily...
I've spent the last three hours researching and troubleshooting my greyscreen dilemma, and your post is the only one that seemed to work so far.
I installed Leopard 10.5 onto my G4 Dual 1.25 Mirror, successfully restarted after the install, then had glitchy problems including being unable to run Software Update or even run the Leopard Update after downloading it from the apple website. So I restarted the computer (after removing the Install DVD and shutting the drive door) and found myself stuck at the grey screen with the spinning ball.
Nothing worked. I couldn't do anything to get it to boot.
After researching, I booted into single user mode and ran mount -o rw,remount / # (from this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5796214&#5796214) and when I exited and it began to boot I saw it get stuck at mDNSResponder line prompt, repeating the line prompt every 5 seconds or so and never getting anywhere.
Then I found your post and changed permissions as you mentioned, exited and it booted up successfully. I then immediately ran Software Update and installed the Leopard 10.5.1 update and now all is well again.
Insane for this to be required. I barely know what single user means and would have sent this computer in to Apple if I hadn't found your solution.
Hopefully the next person who searches on this problem will find this and save themselves a horror story too. Thanks again.

  • Experience with Apple Support?

I bought an Ipod almost a year ago and every few months have had a problem along the lines of freezing screens or nothing happening. Each time (3 times) i have taken it back to the Apple service centre and each time they have replaced it with a new one. Whilst it has been frustrating to have to regularly make the visits, wait for a while while they deal with it, and then reload everything, i do appreciate the replacements. However, as it is coming up to the end of my original 1 year warranty, and I have only recently had the latest faulty one replaced, i am concerned about the future reliability of the Ipod, having hardly had a good experience with them to date. I don't see why I should have to pay for a year's warranty extension myself when I am effectively dealing with am ipod that is only a couple of months old and that they should support.
On disussing my concerns with my local reseller they agreed that it was reasonable to expect Apple to provide an extra year's warranty based on the problems i have experienced and suggested that i contact Apple customer care. I did so several weeks ago and spoke to one of the staff who insinuated that it was something I had done, which is completely untrue and offensive. I hardly enjoy the hassle of having to go through the rigmarole of repair and replacement, and it isnt hard to find other people who have had faults on their ipods.
She refused to increase the warranty for a year, offering a few extra weeks. I asked to speak to a supervisor and she said she would escalate my call. A week later I had heard nothing and called again. This time I was told that the call had been passed to a supervisor called Natalie who was out that day and another message would be sent to her. This is now 2 weeks ago and i still have not had the courtesy of a response.
    Anyone with similar experiences/advice?

that was the whole message I received..

For discrete code-level questions, you may wish to consult with Apple Developer Technical Support. Please be sure to:
    - include the complete details of your rejection issues
    - prepare any symbolicated crash logs, screenshots, or steps to reproduce the issues for when the DTS engineer follows up.
For information on how to symbolicate and read a crash log, please see Technical Note TN2123 - CrashReporter.
they want me to provide crash logs? can't do, it doesn't crash and did not have any issues on the two mac I tested on. Can't provide screenshots or any kind of steps because they're the ones who's saying it's not working and they don't provide the steps to help me reproduce it.

Thanks for the pointers folks. Yeah, 1.5GB is pretty poor isn't it? There are other suppliers, but you have to get a their phone line installed to access the internet so it's an £85 setup fee plus a day off work for a guy to come round and drill a hole in your wall before you even get to the monthly costs.
Don't get me wrong though - I'm certainly not an Apple basher, but am equally frustrated with both them and the ISP.
Virgin Media spend all kinds of money advertising their broadband as the fastest in the UK, but don't tell you (up front anyway) that you'll be cut off if you actually try and use it.
Apple on the other hand carry on with their 'it just works' mantra, but with Apple TV this only applies if you meet certain criteria (again, not mentioned up front).
I guess it aint a biggie, as i was gifted my Apple TV, and love all the other stuff it does, but from the number of posts on this forum can see that there's a lot of angry customers out there who want explanations as to why they're having similar problems to me.
Will be very interesting to see if Apple release any kind of software update that turns the flash drive from a buffer to permanent storage, to at least ease some of the pain...

  • Does anybody have any experience with keyloggers and a good program to detect one on your mac? I think I may have one.

So yesterday I found out that my email address password had been changed. I don't remember doing this, but it is possible I changed it a while back and considering I keep my email constantly logged in. But at the same time, two of my apps were trying to access their "store". I play a game called League of Legends, which has an online store, and it randomly came up with the message "Could not connect to Maestro" (credit card). Then, Itunes (which I rarely use) came up with "sorry, we could not continue with your purchase". I think it's very strange that all of this happened at the same time, but hopefully it's a case of a forgotten password and two games bugging/crashing. I scanned my entire computer with iantivirus and it hasn't found anything, but I've heard keyloggers can be a bit hard to detect. Does anybody have any experience with keyloggers and if so, what program did you use to detect and destroy it?

If you think that a keylogger has been installed the only safe thing you can do is erase your drive and reinstall.
I don't think that is the case however.
