Google Map features (controllers) break in IE

This issue is not consistent and my not even be an APEX error. The issue is only with IE7 and IE8 and not with Firefox or Safari. I have an application that uses extjs which contains google maps API and creates the form and map onReady. Initially, my everything is fine. I can use the slider bar to zoom in, double click on map to zoom, overview map is there, and more. Sometimes (inconsistent), I can just click on the url and hit enter and the slider bar is gone as well as the overview and I can no longer click on the map. The map is still there but all the google api features are gone. If I do a normal refresh all returns to normal.
I know the onReady is being called (appears properly) after the form is created when the map is refreshed by clicking on the url and hitting enter. Alerts() tell me that. I even looked through the div tags that that are generated by the google map creation and the working version and errored version are almost the same. Same number of div tags with minor alterations in the content of a few divs. Has anyone ever seen this issue? My application is using ExtJS 2.* and is served through APEX 3.2.

Thank you for any feedback.

I found out the problem. So to help people in the future fix this problem.
First, JSON was the problem. We have a call in our header to include json.js and used xx.parseJSON() in our code. The problem with that is JSON is native to IE8 and maybe partially native to IE7. This caused it to break in IE but work fine in Firefox. To fix it, we adjusted the JSON a little and changed the code to call JSON.parse(xx). This did the trick. Perhaps in the IE native JSON environment parseJSON() exist but not JSON.parse so removing the double calls so that our app uses the original JSON and not IE version of JSON. Have fun.

  • Google Maps features no longer work or are extremely slow

After upgrading my 1st gen iPhone to 2.0.x, many things don't work as they should. Either at all or there is an incredible delay before working.
One issue is that after you've created directions in Google maps from point A to point B, if you want to reverse the directions, the reverse (s-shaped) button no longer works.
Also the bookmarks button is very very delayed, as is contacts and the + button to add anything.

  • Google Maps on 755P Without Connecting To Internet?

Hi all, new here and have a question...just bought a 755P (Verizon) and was under the (I now know) mistaken impression that the Google Maps feature would work without connection to the internet (and thus no data fees).  I realized it did not have a GPS and thus would not have voice turn by turn directions, but thought at least just the maps would work without a data connection.  Now that I know I was incorrect on that, is there any software I can download/buy that will give me maps without connecting to the Internet?
Also, my thought is I don't want to spend too much because I could go get a bottom end Garmin type GPS for not much over $100, but I like the idea of having one device, plus being in the phone, I'll always have it with me.
    Any suggestions or ideas welcomed!
(I want to figure this out in case this requires a data card because I know I'll want to buy a data card to store music and I'm assuming if I need to buy a data card for mapping that the same one could be used for storing music?)

Welcome to the Palm help forums.
From what I found you can get an mini SD card for $199.99 with preloaded maps and a GPS unit. Thats over your $99.99 limit.

  • Google Maps like "Ontario Magazine"

I'd like to use the Google Maps feature like "Ontario Magazine" does. You can even use Street View in their magazine.
    Any suggestions?

Ontario Magazine is using the new Google Maps JavaScript API v3, wich is now the official way of using google maps on your website or mobile device.
    See the documentation here:
    http://code.google.com/intl/en/apis/maps/documentation/javascript/
With that you add many parameters (like map zoom and all the additional blobs) to the javascript call. This involves basic knowledge about Javascript.
Like Bob said, you need to make a HTML page with all the neccessary keys and data (see google's documentation) and that should give you the effect like in the ontario magazine, even enabling google streetview.

  • Questions about BLOG feature and about Google Maps Widget

Hi, just started using iweb & mobileme to take a break from dreamweaver & ISP host (I am so bored with both of them). iWeb 09 seems very VERY cool, but I chose a theme with a blog feature for a blog I am starting for our studio, and it works strangely. The entries are replicated in full on the blog home page, and that does not make sense. Read more? Why, you just read it all! Albeit in smaller print and different layout. But I am sure that I am missing something there:) Also, how do people comment on the articles? I see nothing there!
On google map, I want to add a pin but don't see how using the widget. It only gives me a google known address, which are few and far between in Nepal. So how do I fix that?
    Here is the draft site:

ALSO, BONUS QUESTION: where is the best place to get more/better canned themes for iWeb, and are there tips on installing them? thx!!!

how do i remove this feature? where using google maps the input box has this in it( Enter your address line 2 here)/In hotmail new email on the enter page it reads (Enter your email here) .
You have the remove these statements before entering an address , and before sending an email or with the email it will stay on the email , google maps will not work.

    Try this -
    <img src="assets/jpgs/Prodigy Logo Large 2014.jpg" width="180" height="180" alt="" style="display:block;">
What you are seeing as whitespace is the space reserved for glyph descenders on any element that is rendered within a text box (i.e., an inline element). By making the image "display:block" you eliminate that space because a block element doesn't have descenders. If that works to your satisfaction then you can give the logo an id, and create a CSS selector containing that block style.

Apple Maps - Please reconsider and include Google Maps. As a long time Apple customer, I am disappointed iOS would regress the system and inconvenience millions because of a vendetta that should never hinder users. Not only does the transit feature I used religiously no longer exist, but clicking on an address in a website now directs users to a poor Google Maps interface. I am surprised to see such a effortless update from a company squatting on the resources to make a change its customers are asking for.

Apple has documented an API to provide add-ons to the Maps app in the iOS 6 SDK, so that such add-ons are possible is absolutely not a guess that the capability is there. As to whether someone will indeed develop an add-on for any given transit system, that would be a guess, yes, but at a couple of companies at least have already announced plans to do so.
In select cities and areas - so now I'm going from being able to supply this information myself to either wait for someone to supply an app or write an app myself... This is not feature progression but feature regression. Adding transit times or a specific overlay should not have to be something you need to do through code via an API. So no dice... Your guess that we will see better transit information is just that - a guess, nothing else.
If you don't agree with that editorial, you are certainly free to do so. I provided the link as food for thought for those who have been questioning Apples' decision to drop Google's maps from iOS. Whether or not you agree with Brad's analysis or that of anyone else is up to you.
But on that central issue the editorial fails - it's is not the true tale of why Apple made their move and therefore useless even as "food for thought" (because it's guesswork).

  • Sales & Marketing Online MapIt URL Maps feature for Addresses Google Maps

We recently enabled the MapIT URL functionality so our users can see street maps from Yahoo from Sales Online when they click on the Map it icon associated with all addresses in Sales and Marketing Online.
See Metalink 280542.1 for how to enable this in the Ebusiness Suite.
    Two questions:
    1. We would like to use Google Maps; does anyone know how this can be done?
    2. Our business is in Australia. By default we hide Australia as a county on our addresses. This prevents us from seeing maps for addresses in Australia. Any body know a way around this?
Image for clarification can be found here: http://www.orafaq.com/forum/t/90720/0/

Sorry mate looks like it is not straight forward change that you can make to use Google instead of Yahoo.
You may need to use Google Maps APIs and try to build your own URL and update the profile option.
I am hoping in next version of Oracle Apps has out of the box functionality to use Google maps.

  • How to get regular google maps back on iPhone after ios6 "up(down)grade"

Hoping someone from Apple will contact me about this.
I recently downloaded the ios 6 (I hesitate to call it an upgrade at this point) and now my maps look like absolute garbage.
I would like Google Maps back, properly (not the web app). I've read about downgrading to ios5.1.1 on other forums, but apple does not support it, and I'm afraid of bricking my iphone, or loosing my data and settings that I've spent many months refining.
So, I'm asking you, Apple, to please figure something out for those of us who would like to go back in time and have the original phone we purchased. The maps app is absolutely useless to me at this point. If a solution is not given in a timely manner, I promise that my next phone and my next tablet will be an android (planning on upgrading both in about 1 year when my phone contract is up). I'm sure many others are also thinking the same thing.
I think it's absolutely insane that you would break people's devices and not offer to revert back to 10 minutes ago before we started the download. This kind of planned obsolesence will only create irritated customers who will switch to a platform that doesn't tie your hands up and take away features on a whim.
The only way to salvage your reputation from this flub is to fix it. NOW!

  • Numbers/Address Book and Google Maps

I would love to integrate my spreadsheet of addresses or my Address Book with Google Maps.
    Is this possible? Somehow?
I take a lot of trips across the country and don't always know when I will be driving by my friends. But if I had a map I could glance at to see where they all are, I would know that I could schedule a lunch with a friend halfway or something like that.
I have heard about MapPoint, but don't know if there is anything like this that is free/affordable/non-MS.
    Thanks!

Integrating in Numbers would not be automatic. You'd have to format links to assign to each address.
I've seen plug-ins to use Google maps with Address Book. Try a search on MacUpdate or VersionTracker for Address Book.
I think one of the features for Address Book in Leopard is integration with Google maps.

  • Google maps does not work

I have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on my Macbook Pro. No matter which browser I use, Google maps will not render the map detail - instead it just shows the target location with a letter 'A' or whatever, but the background map is just grey with no features. It  makes no difference how long I wait either. I have used the various features in browsers to clear out the 'junk' and have used 'reset safari' when in that browser, Still no joy. I have had the MBP for two years and I expect this simple feature to work as it does on all my Windows PC's and iPhone. I am at my wits end and feel somewhat duped into the Apple world by the triumph of 'form' over function. I want to love my MAC but it aggravates me instead because I spend too much time trying to figure out how to get basic features working when in fact they should work first time without user intervention.
Has anyone got a 5 minute fix for this ridiculous fault please? I cannot upload a screen grab either because (1) this Apple forum wont allow upload of my screengrabbed jpgs of tiffs, or (2) my MBP wont allow it (despite them being within the expected size limit). Another spectacular own goal by Apple.

Have you tried a PRAM and an SMC reset? They're longshots, but don't take long to try.
    PRAM: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
    SMC: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Have you run Apple Diagnostics from the disc(s) that shipped with the computer?
Since the problem occurs in all browsers, it still sounds like a video hardware or video RAM or maybe a software issue having to do with layers and rendering.
The map layers aren't getting rendered, or if rendered, aren't getting displayed.
Do you have any browser add-ins? Pop-up blockers?
Since you have two video chipsets, it's possible that might be related to the issue.
This non-Apple website talks about switching between chipsets on the various MacBook models so equipped, and points to a free 'donationware' program for the menubar that lets you easily switch between chipsets:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/macbook-pro-unibody-faq/macboo k-pro-unibody-switching-between-graphics-processors.html
Trying to think of other software that might help pinpoint the problem, does the iPhoto Slideshow 'Shatter' template work? Working properly, it 'shatters' images into several color layers and rotates them in and out to build and deconstruct photos.

  • Is it possible to link from a Google Map to a DPS article?

    Hey everybody,
I'm using DPS to produce an iPad travel magazine about Berlin. One feature shoul be a Google Map with all the Points Of Interest from the articles. I want to set links from the articles to the POIs which is possible as far as I know. But is it also possible to link thge other way round, from a POI tooltip in the Google Map to an article produced in DPS? The map will be entirely online.
    Thanks for your help!
    Timo

You can use social sharing URLs to link from the map to your DPS application, provided it is a multi-issue publication and not a Single Edition application.
The advantage to this approach is your readers will be able to see your DPS content even if they aren't on a mobile device, as the web viewer will render the content in those situations.

  • Google maps turn by turn directions no longer interrupts iTunes music player in iOS7

I often use Google Maps app when I travel while simultaneously listening to music. I have my iPhone connected to my car stereo via the Lightning port. In iOS6, when Google would give turn by turn directions the music volume would duck and the voice guided navigation would play through the car stereo. After updating to iOS7, this feature no longer works. With both iTunes and Google Maps open, the music volume is always dimmed and voice guided navigation is always off.
I do not notice this issue with Apple's Maps app. So far it appears to work properly and I am using this as a work around. However there are several reasons I favor Google Maps as a superior solution for the moment. For example, if I ask for directions to a specific location such as a local business Google is able to provide this information 90% of the time. By comparison, the same query with Siri usually results in having to search the web for an address first and then having to go back and ask for directions to that specific street address. It is a minor inconvenience, but it is enough of a hassle that I tend to stick with the better content of Google Maps for now.
Perhaps this bug is iOS7 related or perhaps the issue is with the Google Maps app. Either way, I am reporting because I'd love to see it fixed. I have noticed several bugs (this being one of many that I am reporting) since upgrading to iOS7 which has been very disappointing. I am a huge Apple advocate and this has not been the experience of "It just works" that I have come to expect from my Apple products. It is because I care so much about the Apple ecosystem that has made my work and play so much more enjoyable that I will take the time to report these in hopes that Apple will take notice and that subsequent updates will address these issues.

I never did. Partly I believe it's the interaction with my car's bluetooth connection and instructions it sends the phone when they connect. It seems like if I actively QUIT all applications that could play audio (SiriusXM, Podcasts, Music), then I can get the directions without any music. (That said, the SiriusXM app doesn't always play nice. If any of these are open, not even playing, then they start up when I select bluetooth audio on my car stereo. But I still can't tell the audio to stop without it muting either Google Maps or Apple's Maps. They both behave the same way.

  • Google maps street-level view works in Safari but not Firefox 3.6.8

I've lost the ability to see street-level views in Google Maps, probably in the last couple of months, and suspect Firefox.

Perfect! Thanks cor-el: Good instructions. It was the add-on extension FlashBlock, which makes some sense, in that what wasn't happening with the street-level feature was that I wasn't getting the image of the street. Cannot now reconstruct what led me to <https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes>, but your instructions got me there, and following the trouble-shooting steps narrowed down the problem, the way one used to have to do with Mac extension, identify the culprit by process of elimination and going first for those that might make sense, as FlashBlock did to me, whether for the right or wrong reason.
