GP: WebDynpro Application vs Web Dynpro (GP Interface)

Hello,
I've gone through some documents here in SDN. And I can't find a document that could give me a comparison between having a WebDynpro Application and WebDynpro (GP Interface) as callable objects.
From what I understand is as for GP Interface (WD) as callable object, you implement inherited GP methods to 'expose' input/output parameters of the WebDynpro DC. Now, how does that compare with just calling (attach as action) a WebDynpro Application? Does this one also have an 'exposure' procedure needed for it to be considered as a callable object?
Could someone help me as to the comparison of both? Also, the PROs and CONs would also be of help.
Thank you and Best Regards,
Jan

Yes you have to use the automatically added window.

  • Doubts while doing  example on WDJ-Using Web Dynpro Component Interface

    Hi
I am doing the example mentioned in the PDF file WDJ - Using Web Dynpro Component Interface Definition.
In the PDF file its mentioned the following code inside onActionCreateDC1:
    g_Usage.createComponent("com.sap.wd.childdc1comp.ChldDC1Comp");
    wdThis.wdGetWDCompInterfInstInterface().passInfo(
    "Created Child DC 1");
I have one query that what is com.sap.wd.childdc1comp.ChldDC1Comp?Is it the component name of DC or the package name of DC?
I have deployed the application. When i click on button Create Child DC1 i am getting follwing exception:
com.sap.tc.webdynpro.services.sal.deployment.api.WDDeploymentException: Failed to load deployable object part 'com.wartsila.test.ChileDC1Comp', type 'Component' of deployable object 'wartsila.com/DP_TutWDInterfaces'.
When i click on Create Child DC2 i am getting follwing exception:
com.sap.tc.webdynpro.services.exceptions.WDRuntimeException:Failed to create delegate for custom controller com.wartsila.test1.ChildDC2CompInterfaceCfg. (Hint: Is the corresponding DC deployed correctly? Does the DC contain the component?)
Can anybody tell how can i solve it?
Is it required to deploy the two child component also that is ChildDC1Comp and ChildDC2Comp?If yes then how to deploy these two child DC as when i am tryng to create application for these two component then default plug is showing blank thats why i am unable to deploy these child Dcs.
    Thanks
    Susmita

    Hi Susmita,
Is it required to deploy the two child component also that is ChildDC1Comp and ChildDC2Comp?
Yes , u have to deploy both the components.
when i am tryng to create application for these two component then default plug is showing blank thats why i am unable to deploy these child Dcs.
U need not create an Application for deploying the component .Right Click on ur project --> Deploy.
The problem is with ur Component, while creating a Component u should have created a Interface view and default StartUp plug.
Just check whether u have Created the startup plug for ur interface view.
Open the controller editor of ur interface view --> Select Plugs Tab .
and in the plug tab , check whether u have Default Start plug (in Inbound Plugs Table).
if there is no Default Start Plug , then click the Button New to create a Default Plug .
in the pop up window -- select Stsrt Up and Give the name of the plug as "Default".
After doing this , select the default plug and Right click on the plug -->copy  and Open the window Controller editor -- > select Plugs Tab --> check whether u have default plug (in Inbound plugs) in the Window controller .
if the plug is not there , then paste the plug in the Window's Inbound Plug Table .
    Hope it helps
    Thanks and Regards

  • Context from Web-Dynpro-Component-Interface & Customer Extention Fields

    Hello all,
A main component uses a Web-Dynpro-Component-Interface and defines an external maping to it. Web-Dynpro-Component-Interface has a context and a window. At runtime implementaion of Web-Dynpro-Component-Interface is provided.
All works fine, but how can i create an implementation with view which contains customer extention fields? Unfortunately only fields from context of Web-Dynpro-Component-Interface are visible. I can not even extend the context of Web-Dynpro-Component-Interface via enchancement framework.
I assume, it is possible with dynamic programming, but why is it not possible in declarative way?
    thanks
    regards
    Paul

    Hello,
    I found this documentation:
Implementation of Interfaces for Customer Developments
Using interfaces in a Web Dynpro component benefits customers by giving them a clean basis for their own further developments. When creating a local development, you can implement a used interface in a separate component and add your own aspects to an application delivered by SAP.

I think it must be a correct way to extend SAP programms with customer fields. Please reply, issue is very important.

  • How can I convert my Web Dynpro Application to Web Dynpro with GP Interface

    Hi experts
I am trying to make my Web Dynrpo Application implement GP interface.
    I encountered a question .
when I added GP interface controller, "Window" component also added automatically.
But I have already had  a "Window" componet which contains alot of View settings.
Do I have to Use newly added GP "Window" component?
if  so, do I have to recreate "Window" Componet whenever I convert to my web dynpro application implementing GP interface ?

  • Using EJBs in Web Dynpro Applications

I have recently started to develop Web applications using the Web Dynpro framework. Coming from a pure J2EE world, I must admit that Web Dynpro has a few innovative features that I find interesting for user interface development. The use of component & view contexts, for example, is not unlike the ActionForms that one may find in a Struts application, but pushed a bit further. No complaints here.
What I do have some problems with is the whole CommandBean paradigm that is put forth by SAP (refer to the document <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/library/webdynpro/using%20ejbs%20in%20web%20dynpro%20applications.pdf">Using EJBs in Web Dynpro Applications</a>).
I do understand the usefulness of defining a model that will be used to generate and eventually bind to Context data structures. That's fine. What I do object to is the use of a so-called CommandBean to play that role. Again, coming from a J2EE world, I am familiar with the BusinessDelegate pattern - which would typically be used by a client application to invoke business logic on the server side. I would propose that a better, cleaner way of integrating EJBs with the Web Dynpro framework would be to use a BusinessDelegate for invoking business logic, and importing a separate and distinct ModelBean (instead of a CommandBean) to be used for defining and binding to Context data.
I have built one Web Dynpro application thus far. Instead of using a CommandBean, I created a ModelBean that extends my business object DTO (Data Transfer Object) (which is quite appropriate for that role, given that it implements all the get & set methods that are required for the business data that I need to model). My Web Dynpro application also makes use of an independant BusinessDelegate that is packaged with my EJB DC - this is a standard best practice on J2EE projects. I have been asked by the people working with me to modify this architecture to bring it more in line with the SAP way of doing things. I am open-minded and willing to learn and accept new ways of thinking and doing things. However, I fail to understand the usefulness of merging structure and behaviour by resorting to CommandBeans:
    - <b>It violates the MVC paradigm</b> by having one object (the CommandBean) serve as both model AND controller as far as the Web Dynpro application is concerned. The CommandBean is obviously a model - since it is literally imported as such into the Web Dynpro application. It is ALSO a controller from the Web Dynpro's application perspective, since all calls to the back-end go thru the CommandBean via one or more of its execute_xxx methods. In contrast, the use of a business delegate by the Web Dynpro application clearly separates the model (the CommandBean... or rather, a more suitably named ModelBean) from the controller (BusinessDelegate).
    - <b>Doesn't carry its own weight</b>. In other words, I haven't yet been provided with any valid justification for going thru the extra effort of coding the CommandBean's execute methods. It's been proposed to me that it somehow serves as an abstraction layer between the Web Dynpro application and the business logic. I would argue that it is the BusinessDelegate's role to abstract away the back-end logic from clients. If one does have a BusinessDelegate available, I would argue there's no need to code execute methods in a separate CommandBean. To prove my point, I would simply point out that all of the CommandBean examples that I have seen so far, either in How-To documents, or in production code, all follow the same pattern....
    CommandBean.execute_doSomething() calls BusinessDelegate.doSomething()
Not a heck of an "abstraction" layer... I would in fact argue that it is worse than useless. If some major change occurs in the business logic that requires changing the doSomething() operation, we expect of course to modify the BusinessDelegate. The Web Dynpro client will also presumably need to be modified - that's to be expected, and unavoidable. But then, we'll also need to go about and change the CommandBean's execute_doSomething() method - again, extra work for no apparent benefit. Adding and removing business methods has the same implication. All this for an layer that simply adds the prefix execute_ in front of all business method calls... Is this "abstraction layer" worth the cost of creating and maintaining it ??
    - <b>Unnecessarily complicates error handling</b>. I have been told that for technical reasons, it is recommended that all exceptions thrown by the CommandBean be of type WDException or WDRuntimException. But what if the client application needs to react differently to different failure scenarios ? When I create a business object, I might wish to provide the user with an error messages if connection is lost to the backend, and with a different error message if an object already exists in the database with the same attributes. In order to do that, I will have to catch the WDException, extract the cause, and continue processing from there... possible, yes, but clearly less standard and more labor intensive than the classical try/catch mechanism.
To say nothing about the fact that SAP's own API documentation clearly states that applications using Web Dynpro can reference and catch WDExceptions, but THEY MUST NOT THROW OR EXTEND IT !
    - <b>Produces unnecessary DCs</b>. Page 6 of the aforementioned document presents an architectural view of a Web Dynpro project that uses a CommandBean. Why an extra DC for the CommandBean ?? I created my ModelBean class right inside the Web Dynpro project (in the Package view). That, to me, is where this class should reside, because it is created for no other reason that to be used by this particular Web Dynpro application. What is the benefit of placing it in its own independant DC ?
    - <b>Not a typical application of the Command pattern</b>. The well-documented command pattern (Design Patterns - Gang of Four) has been devised mainly to enable encapsulation of request as objects, thereby making it possible to:
    - specify, queue and execute requests at different times
    - decouple execution of a command from its invoker
    - support undo operations
    - support logging changes so that they can be reapplied in case of system crash making it possible to assemble commands into composite commands (macros), thereby structuring a system around high-level operations built on primitive operations.
None of this applies to the way the SAP CommandBeans are being used. Not that much of an issue to people new to J2EE and/or OO development... but quite confusing for those already familiar with the classic Command pattern.
At this point, I fail to understand the advantage of merging structure (model) and behaviour (execute methods) through the use of a unique CommandBean object. Am I missing something ?

    Hi Romeo,
You would be disappointed, this reply ain't anywhere nearby to what you are talking about...
I wanted to mail you, but you have not mentioned your email in your profile.
I am really impressed by your flair for writing. It would be far better had you written a blog on this topic. Believe me, it would really be better. There is a much wider audience waiting out there to read your views rather than on the forums. This is what I believe. To top it, you would be rewarded for writing something like this from SDN. On the blogs too, people can comment and all, difference being there you would be rewarded by SDN, here people who reply to you would be rewarded by you. Doesn't make  much a difference.
Anyways the ball is still in your court
As far as I am concerned, it has still not been much time since I have started working on Web Dynpro. So can't really comment on the issue...

  • HTML, JavaScript, Applets possible in Web-Dynpro Applications?

    Hello Community,
I'm developing a JEE5-Application using Web-Dynpro for the User-Interface. Web-Dynpro works fine for the most functions and processes of the application. But there are some special requirements i don't know to implement them using Web-Dynpro.
So my question is, if there is the possibility for:
    using HTML-Code in a Web-Dynpro UI-App  (the HTML dynamically generated by Web-Dynpro)
using JavaScript in the Web-Dynpro UI-App
using Java-Applets (for example to interact if local computer resources)
using an HTML-Editor for editing Texts in the Application (for example freeware Edtior fckeditor)
or do i have to use JSF in that case?
    regards
    Matthias

    Hi Matthias,
I will answer your question point wise, in short:
    1) Using HTML-Code in a Web-Dynpro UI-App (the HTML dynamically generated by Web-Dynpro)
Ans: it is possible to put the HTML code in the WebDynpro UI App. Use the IFrame Ui element to do the same. See this:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/EN/e9/7652a84fada444bd11ca73670ce7dc/frameset.htm

    Displaying HTML in WebDynpro View
    2) Using JavaScript in the Web-Dynpro UI-App
    Ans: Not Possible.
    3) Using Java-Applets (for example to interact if local computer resources)
    Ans: Not Possible.
    4) Using an HTML-Editor for editing Texts in the Application (for example freeware Edtior fckeditor)
    Ans: Not possible.
    I hope this helps!

  • Difference between mobile web dynpro and simple web dynpro application

    Hi Everyone,
Can anyone pls let me know what's the difference b/w mobile web dynpro application and an offline or simple web dynpro application.
    Thank U!!
    Ravi Aswani

    Hi ,
    Mobile WebDynpro
The SAP Web Application Server allows direct online access to Web Dynpro applications using mobile devices. As part of the SAP Web Application Server, Web Dynpro provides a development and runtime environment with which you can quickly and simply create professional user interfaces for desktop PCs or for mobile devices. An appropriate infrastructure and renderer classes are provided for developing mobile Web Dynpro applications for Pocket PCs as well as for BlackBerry Wireless Handhelds and Nokia Series 80 devices.
    http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_03/helpdata/EN/fa/100d4113eff16fe10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm
    WebDynpro Java
Web Dynpro is a client-independent programming model of the SAP NetWeaver technology platform for developing user interfaces for professional business applications. It is based on the model view controller paradim which ensures that the business logic is separated from the presentation logic. This architecture is visible in the Web Dynpro perspective of the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio (NWDS).
Web Dynpro helps you with the development of Web applications by:
    ·        Ensuring platform-independence with the meta model approach
    ·        Minimizing the implementation effort through declarative programming
    ·        Supporting a structured design process by applying the model view controller paradigm
    ·        Providing reuse and better maintainability by using components
    ·        Providing graphical support with tools in the Web Dynpro perspective
    ·        Providing the SAP NetWeaver Java Development Infrastructure (NWDI) which supports team work with different services such as source code versioning and the Central Build Service.

  • Adding a field in Web dynpro java in Travel Request application

    Hi All,
How to add a field in Web dynpro java in Travel Request application or can we copy the Web dynpro java application to Web dynpro ABAP and add a field. Experts, Can you please suggest me step by step in resolving the problem.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Kumar

    Hi Kumar,
First, in order to customise the ESS webdynpro Java iViews you need to be aware that, you are about to change the SAP standard iviews. In order to avoid this you can make a copy of the SAP standard one's and then try to customise the copied one's.
Now, you should have NetWeaver Development Infrastructure(NWDI) installed. Once it is installed you should also install the Netweaver Developer Studio (NWDS) on your computer.
Once you have these two installed, you should deploy the ESS Business Package onto the NWDI by creating tracks. There is a cookbook available on SAP Service Marketplace for configuring NWDI for ESS.
Once you have all the above mentioned tools, have a look at the following blog which clearly explains about the procedure of customising ESS iviews.
    /people/vinoth.murugaiyan/blog/2007/08/24/essmss-customization-150-make-it-simple
Also check the following Wiki, this might be useful!
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/wiki?path=/display/erphcm/employee%252bself%252bservice
I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any issues.
Dont forgett to contribute points if this is useful! All the Best.

  • Deployed Web dynpro application URL has the wrong host name

    Hi All,
I have developed a java webdynpro application using NWDS. When I deploy it on a remote server, the host in the  URL of the generated application is different from the message server. Also, the URL doesn't display the fully qualified name of the message server. This creates problems when the application is accessed from a different domain.
When I run the deployed application in web dynpro administrator, correct URL is generated.
    My questions is
Where does the NWDS get the host and port from. Are there any parameters to be changed on the NWDS/Visual admin or on the Server to pick the exact server and host?
    Version:
    NWDS 7.0.09
    Netweaver 2004s SP15
    Thank you,
    Vasu

    Thanks for your reply.
    Hi Siva,
I'm using a remote server. Which hosts file are you referring to? Is it where the NWDS is installed or the on the server?
Pravesh -  My problem is not setting the J2ee engine on NWDS. Even when I give the correct message server and port on NWDS, the URL for the application deployed is not picking the server name correctly.
My remote server has 2 SAP instances on it. Is it a problem?
    e.g.:
Say my remote server is s07.xyz.com
So I set the Message server as s07.xyz.com  and port as abcd
When I deploy the application, sometimes I get the URL as
    http://bs307:50000/webdynpro/dispatcher/local/RPM_Item2/Charter2?SAPtestId=4
    Sometimes - http://s08:50000/webdynpro/dispatcher/local/RPM_Item2/Charter2?SAPtestId=4
But the correct URL should be
    http://s07.xyz.com:50000/webdynpro/dispatcher/local/RPM_Item2/Charter2?SAPtestId=4
But all three work. When I run the application from webdynpro administrator, the URL is correct.
    Thank you,
    Vasu

  • Web Dynpro and CAF (BOs, Application Services, returning Complex Types)

    Hi All,
I am trying to develop an application using Web Dynpro and CAF for days now and did not get it running.. I need some help here.
What I am trying to do / have done is the following:
    - Design a Business Object (BO) in CAF
    - Implement an Application Service that has a method called getAllBOs that calls the findAll method of the BO
    - call this method using AWS model or EJB model in Web Dnypro, show the result in a table.
My getAllBOs returns a set of BOs (Data Type is the Complex Type of my BO in CAF). I was able to design the Application Service so that it returns a collection of BOs (using a Wrapper Comple Type), but I was never able to call the generated Web Service successfully in Web Dynpro. The WebService worked fine when testing it in wsnavigator...
However, i never got it running.. is there anybody out there who is able to explain what to do to import a AWS model or an EJB model in Werb Dynpro and particularily how to implement the stuff so that it returns a set of BOs successfully...
Thanks in advance.. Useful help is highly appreciated
Please note: THIS IS ABOUT Netweaver CE 7.1 - do not post stuff about 7.0!

    Hi,
You have to return a single object from caf layer to webdynpro layer.
Since you are returning a list of BOs, create a wrapper in caf which contains the list of your BOs.
Your application service should return this wrapper.
    Creating Wrapper:
    1. Create a complex data type.
    2. Include your BO as one of the properties in it. and set the cardinality to 0..n.
In Application service invoke your findAll() of BO and use the returned list to populate the wrapper's BO list.
    Return this wrapper.
    Hope it helps.

    Fazal
