Grant create index question

How do I grant "create index" on any table to a user.
Is it "grant create index to <USER1>

User must be granted with ALTER OR CONTROL Permission to create an index.
GRANT ALTER,CONTROL ON SCHEMA::SALES TO <User>

  • Question: create index indextype is ctxsys.context whith NOLOGGING

    Dear All,
    I would like to ask a question about
    CREATE INDEX <index_name> ON <table_name> ( <index_col> ) INDEXTYPE IS CTXSYS.CONTEXT PARAMETERS ( ... )maybe you experienced that ctxsys.context index creation takes long time.
    When you create a ctxsys.context index it is obvious to reduce the workload of the RDBMS. In this case I would like to reduce the I/O load with NOLOGGING option.
    Firstly, I try to put the index into a tablespace with no logging option. I don't know why but it is not working. Watching the alert.log file I diagnose that redo log generated simultaneously while index generated (there are no other activity on RDBMS).
    Q1 (optional): Why generating redo on object of NOLOGGING tablaspace ?
    I think there are better solution: use the NOLOGGIN option of the create index command which is very simple to use at column indexes.
    Which unclear to me how should I use in CREATE INDEX .. INDEXTYPE IS CTXSYS.CONTEXT command.
    Fllowing the CREATE INDEX command syntax seems oubvious - but it provides sytax error.
    Maybe this is why CREATE INDEX .. INDEXTYPE IS CTXSYS.CONTEXT needs something different for options: PL/SQL
    example captured (for options):
    begin
    ctx_ddl.create_preference ('mystore', 'BASIC_STORAGE');
    ctx_ddl.set_attribute ('mystore', 'I_INDEX_CLAUSE', 'tablespace users storage (initial 32k) compress 2');
    end;
    CREATE INDEX docs_idx ON my_docs(doc) INDEXTYPE IS CTXSYS.CONTEXT PARAMETERS ('STORAGE mystore');Q: How can I specify NOLOGGING option? In the index command? In the attribute? What is the exact syntax if NOLOGGING is allowed at ctxsys.context?
    Oracle version: 11.1.0.6.0
    Any advice, highly appreciated.

    You have to specify nologging in  storage preference.
    See Avoiding Redo Logging for an Oracle Text Domain Index (Doc ID 432762.1)
    Example:
    begin
    ctx_ddl.drop_preference('my_storage');
    end;
    begin
    ctx_ddl.create_preference('my_storage','BASIC_STORAGE');
    end;
    begin
    ctx_ddl.set_attribute('my_storage', 'i_table_clause','tablespace foo1 storage (initial 5M next 10M pctincrease 0 freelists 24 freelist groups 24) nologging');
    ctx_ddl.set_attribute('my_storage', 'k_table_clause','tablespace foo2 storage (initial 5M next 10M pctincrease 0) nologging');
    ctx_ddl.set_attribute('my_storage', 'r_table_clause','tablespace foo3 storage (initial 5M next 10M pctincrease 0) lob(DATA) store as (nocache nologging) nologging');
    ctx_ddl.set_attribute('my_storage', 'n_table_clause','tablespace foo4 storage (initial 5M next 10M pctincrease 0) nologging');
    ctx_ddl.set_attribute('my_storage', 'p_table_clause','tablespace foo5 storage (initial 5M next 10M pctincrease 0) nologging');
    ctx_ddl.set_attribute('my_storage', 'i_index_clause','tablespace foo6 storage (initial 5M next 10M pctincrease 0) compress 2 nologging');
    end;

  • Dynamic SQL and GRANT CREATE ANY TABLE

    hi gurus,
    i have a dynamic SQL in a procedure where a table will be created from an existing table without data.
    strSQL:='create table ' || strTemp || ' as select * from ' || strArc || ' where 1=2';
    execute immediate strSQL;
    without GRANT CREATE ANY TABLE for the user, *"ORA-01031: insufficient privileges"* error during execution.
    Is there a way to tackle this issue without providing GRANT CREATE ANY TABLE privilige?
    many thanks,

    ravikumar.sv wrote:
    The problem is not because of dynamic sql...It probably has something to do with dynamic SQL or, more accurately, dynamic SQL within a stored procedure.
    From a SQL*Plus command prompt, you can create a table if your account has the CREATE TABLE privilege either granted directly to it or granted to a role that has been granted to your account. Most people probably have the CREATE TABLE privilege through a role (hopefully a custom "developer role" that has whatever privileges you grant to users that will own objects but potentially through the default RESOURCE role). That is not sufficient to create tables dynamically via a definer's rights stored procedure. Only privileges that are granted directly to the user, not those granted via a role, are visible in that case.
    I expect that the DBAs are granting the CREATE ANY TABLE privilege directly to the account in question rather than through whatever role(s) are being used which is why that appears to solve the problem.

  • H2 devide implicit and explicit created indexes by dictionary views?

    For migrating amounts of data it is useful to drop and recreate indexes and referencing constaints. A implicit created index by defining a primary/unique key constraint will be dropped implicitly by dropping the before mentioned constraint. Creating such a constraint after creating an equivalent index with the constraint name will result in an other behaviour. The explicit created index will not be dropped by dropping the referencing primary/unique key constraint.
    So far so good and well known. The question is: Which dictionary view columns will show me the difference between implicit and explict created indexes if I try to dynamically drop and recreate indexes and unique / primary key constraints?

    Oracle Version is always helpful in answering questions, but for 9i you can find the system generated by:
    dba_indexes.generated = 'Y'
    or
    'SYS_' naming convention for system generated indexes
    or
    dba_constraints.constraint_name = dba_constraints.index_name
    Hope this helps - JTommaney

  • Can't select "include book documents" when creating index in InDesign CC

    I'm trying to make an index for several dokuments in a book. I've made the index but when I try to generate the index the checkbox is greyed out so I can't check it. Do You know what's wrong?

    Thank You. That worked well.
    One more question: It looks as if the index does not include the words of all the documents in the book. Is it something I do wrong?
    Thanks

  • Wait Events "log file parallel write" / "log file sync" during CREATE INDEX

    Hello guys,
    at my current project i am performing some performance tests for oracle data guard. The question is "How does a LGWR SYNC transfer influences the system performance?"
    To get some performance values, that i can compare i just built up a normal oracle database in the first step.
    Now i am performing different tests like creating "large" indexes, massive parallel inserts/commits, etc. to get the bench mark.
    My database is an oracle 10.2.0.4 with multiplexed redo log files on AIX.
    I am creating an index on a "normal" table .. i execute "dbms_workload_repository.create_snapshot()" before and after the CREATE INDEX to get an equivalent timeframe for the AWR report.
    After the index is built up (round about 9 GB) i perform an awrrpt.sql to get the AWR report.
    And now take a look at these values from the AWR
                                                                       Avg
                                                 %Time  Total Wait    wait     Waits
    Event                                 Waits  -outs    Time (s)    (ms)      /txn
    log file parallel write              10,019     .0         132      13      33.5
    log file sync                           293     .7           4      15       1.0
    ......How can this be possible?
    Regarding to the documentation
    -> log file sync: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14237/waitevents003.htm#sthref3120
    Wait Time: The wait time includes the writing of the log buffer and the post.-> log file parallel write: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14237/waitevents003.htm#sthref3104
    Wait Time: Time it takes for the I/Os to complete. Even though redo records are written in parallel, the parallel write is not complete until the last I/O is on disk.This was also my understanding .. the "log file sync" wait time should be higher than the "log file parallel write" wait time, because of it includes the I/O and the response time to the user session.
    I could accept it, if the values are close to each other (maybe round about 1 second in total) .. but the different between 132 seconds and 4 seconds is too noticeable.
    Is the behavior of the log file sync/write different when performing a DDL like CREATE INDEX (maybe async .. like you can influence it with the initialization parameter COMMIT_WRITE??)?
    Do you have any idea how these values come about?
    Any thoughts/ideas are welcome.
    Thanks and Regards

    Thank you for Nice Idea.
    In this case, How can we reduce "log file parallel write" and "log file sync" waited time?
    CREATE INDEX with NOLOGGINGA NOLOGGING can help, can't it?Yes - if you create index nologging then you wouldn't be generating that 10GB of redo log, so the waits would disappear.
    Two points on nologging, though:
    <ul>
    it's "only" an index, so you could always rebuild it in the event of media corruption, but if you had lots of indexes created nologging this might cause an unreasonable delay before the system was usable again - so you should decide on a fallback option, such as taking a new backup of the tablespace as soon as all the nologging operatons had completed.
    If the database, or that tablespace, is in +"force logging"+ mode, the nologging will not work.
    </ul>
    Don't get too alarmed by the waits, though. My guess is that the +"log file sync"+ waits are mostly from other sessions, and since there aren't many of them the other sessions are probably not seeing a performance issue. The +"log file parallel write"+ waits are caused by your create index, but they are happeninng to lgwr in the background which is running concurrently with your session - so your session is not (directly) affected by them, so may not be seeing a performance issue.
    The other sessions are seeing relatively high sync times because their log file syncs have to wait for one of the large writes that you have triggered to complete, and then the logwriter includes their (little) writes with your next (large) write.
    There may be a performance impact, though, from the pure volume of I/O. Apart from the I/O to write the index you have LGWR writting (N copies) of the redo for the index and ARCH is reading and writing the completed log files caused by the index build. So the 9GB of index could easily be responsible for vastly more I/O than the initial 9GB.

  • How to create index on XMLType column extension?

    I have an XMLType column named "info" whose corresponding global element has a complexType "InfoType" in namespace "http://example.org/ord". The "InfoType" complexType is extended in two namespaces, "http://example.org/info/zipcode" and "http://example.org/info/street". How do I create a unique index using an "InfoType" element contributed from one of the extension namespaces?

  • Does GRANT CREATE ANY PROCEDURE auto grants EXECUTE on created obj to user?

    I have a User ABC which has GRANT CREATE ANY PROCEDURE on schema XYZ. Now, I create a new Function in schema XYZ using my ID ABC named "func123". My question is, would my User ID ABC being creator of func123 be able to EXECUTE it by default ???
    Note: ID ABC has not been explicitly given GRANT EXECUTE on this func123 function, neither it has GRANT EXECUTE ANY PROCEDURE on schema XYZ.
    Thanks in advance.

    There is no such thing as 'create any procedure on schema xyz'. When an user has create any procedure, he can create a procedure in any schema, including SYS.
    You have an unprotected and unsecured database by granting this powerful privilege to multiple users.
    Also when you create a procedure in a different schema, that schema becomes the owner, not the user creating it.
    Kindly brush up your basics and (re)read documentation.

  • Creating Index on a XML generated from Dataset

    HI mark,
    I have an XMLTYPE table that contains data of the following format
    <ROWSET>
    <ROW>
    <column1>1</column1>
    <column2>2</column2>
    </ROW>

    <column2>2</column2>
    </ROW>
    </ROWSET>
    the size of the XML is around 6.6 GB
    I have to index it on column 1..
    Is it possible?
    If so how should be my schema?
    and table creation procedure?
    Can I create a clustered index on column 1 (it contains unique value)
    I am using an XMLTYPE table
    thanks

    Thanks Marco and you caught me right..
    I am a microsoft user..
    As you said I tried creating function based index(2 to 3) but when I run a query on that table and draw explain plan it shows full table access. I didnt understand what exactly the problem is and why it didnt use the index..
    would be great if some one can help me out with this...
    I created index like this
    Create INDEX Dataplace_Index1 on Dataplace e(e.existsnode('//syougou2')
    the query goes like this(worst possible query)
    select extractvalue(value(x),'//syougou2'),extractvalue(value(x),'//company_code'),extractvalue(value(x),'//address') from company_details c, table(xmlsequence(extract(value(c),'/COMPANY_DETAILS/COMPANY'))) x where
    rownum < 250
    and
    (extractvalue(value(x),'//gyousyu_code') LIKE '%1%' OR extractvalue(value(x),'//gyousyu_code') LIKE '%2%' OR extractvalue( value(x),'//gyousyu_code') LIKE '%3%')
    and
    extractvalue(value(x),'//city_code') IN ('3501','3502','3503')
    and
    extractvalue(value(x),'//g_rieki5') NOT IN ('1')
    and
    extractvalue(value(x),'//jugyoin') > 1
    and
    extractvalue(value(x),'//g_uriage5') > 1
    and
    extractvalue(value(x),'//sihon') > 2
    and
    extractvalue(value(x),'//company_code') > '01-003541-9'
    order by extractvalue(value(x),'//company_code') , extractvalue(value(x),'//g_rieki5')
    and yet times a join..
    My question is will functional index be helpful..
    and if so is something wrong with the way I created a Fucntional Index..
    why does the explain plan give Full table access
    thanks

  • Do we need any precautions while creating index in MV rather than tables?

    Do we need any precautions while creating index in MV rather than tables?
    Could you please someone tell me is there we need specifically follows while creation on MVs

    MV is a seprate object. You might need to create an indexes on MViews based on how you are accessing that MV. You need to take a same preacutions what you take to create an index on the table,
    I do not know what you mean by your 2nd questions. Read this for better understanding

  • Directory Server 5.2patch4 index question

    Hello,
    Hopefully just a really simple question about indexes. After creating indexes from the console, do you have to restart the ldap server for it to actually start using the indexes. The reason I ask, is that we have setup a box with ldapclient to authenticate user against an ldap server. We ran the idsconfig and such and we can authenticate, but it is really slow. We have some share directories setup where there are say 5-20 members in groups and when we do an ls -la on the directory it takes about 5 seconds for each directory listing to show up and the ldap server cpu utilization jumps. We also see an unidex search error in the ldap error log file. Also when I do an ldaplist group it is very slow. We have about 25000 groups.
    Any help would be greatly apprecidated.
    Thanks,
    Gary

    When you have created new indexes with the Console (or via CLI), you MUST build / rebuild indexes. It is not because you've configured an index that the data in the Directory has been indexed properly.
    The separation between configuring an index and building it allows you to do the later when it has little impact to client application.
    No server restart is needed.
    The Directory Server Administration Manual, Managing Indexes chapter covers this topic.
    Regards,
    Ludovic.

  • Error creating index

    Hi,
    I'm sure this question must have been asked before, but I can't find an answer to it.
    When I try to create a spatial index I get the following error:

    I used the following commands to enter data into the meta table and create the index:
    INSERT INTO USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA
    VALUES(
    'MAPDEV.DAT_ADDRESS',
    'MAPDEV.DAT_ADDRESS.GEOPOINT',
    MDSYS.SDO_DIM_ARRAY(
    MDSYS.SDO_DIM_ELEMENT('X', 529440, 529680, 0.5),
    MDSYS.SDO_DIM_ELEMENT('Y', 181373, 181582, 0.5)

    ON MAPDEV.DAT_ADDRESS(GEOPOINT)
    INDEXTYPE IS MDSYS.SPATIAL_INDEX
    PARAMETERS('SDO_LEVEL=4 LAYER_GTYPE="POINT" TABLESPACE="IDX"');
    I have no idea where I am going wrong, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers.
    Steve

    if you are not trying to create a function-based index then change your metadata entries:
    INSERT INTO USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA
    VALUES(
    'DAT_ADDRESS',
    'GEOPOINT',
    MDSYS.SDO_DIM_ARRAY(
    MDSYS.SDO_DIM_ELEMENT('X', 529440, 529680, 0.5),
    MDSYS.SDO_DIM_ELEMENT('Y', 181373, 181582, 0.5)),
    8274 --SRID);
    hope this helps,
    dan
