Grant write on directory, fail!!
Hello,
I am executing the follow statement: "grant write on directory my_directory to public" on Oracle 8i and do not obtain.
When I obtain to grant the privilege READ but tthe no WRITE!!
Why I do not obtain grantee the privilege WRITE to PUBLIC on Oracle 8i???
Eder.
You should not be writing to the directory structure where the Oracle binaries are installed via utl_file. Bad practice to say the least.
See the utl_file_dir parameter in your Oracle 8.1.7 Reference manual for how to setup output destinations for utl_file. Do not use "*" as doing so is a security issue.

Granting Write rights to an ORACLE directory entry
Hi
I got some problems with granting Write rights to an ORACLE directory entry on a 8.1.7.0.0 Database.
When I try grant write rights:
grant write on directory dump_dir to IDM;
This results in ORACLE error ORA-22928: invalid privilege on directories
There are no problems with read rights:
Granting read works ok.
The directory entry exists, typing:
select * from dba_directories;
gives...
OWNER DIRECTORY_NAME
------------------------------ ------------------------------ DIRECTORY_PATH
SYS DUMP_DIR
/home/track/export
v$version states that ORACLE 8.1.7.0.0 Production version is being used.
Hope you can help, Thanks.

"24427 Access to Active Directory failed" error in ACS 5.1
Hello,
I'm working on implementing a RADIUS authentication for wireless access with the following :
- PCs running Windows 7, protocol used is PEAP (without validating the server certificate to make it simple at first),
- AP 1252 configured to use a RADIUS server to authenticate (it's working good with an ACS server 4.2),
- ACS Server 5.1.0.44.5 running as VM connected to an AD domain and working good with VPN connections,
- AD domain running on Windows 2003 Server.
My ACS VM is working good since a couple of months for VPN (RADIUS) and administration (TACACS) remote access, both using Active Directory. Now, I'd like to use it to authenticate people connecting to a 1252 Cisco access point but I'm getting this error "24427 Access to Active Directory failed". I switched from PEAP to LEAP but this is the same.
All I can get running the expert troubleshoot

I followed this guide, at least for the ACS certificate section :

Anyone has an idea where the problem may come from?
Thanks in advance,
Vincenthey there, I ran into the same issue with 5.3 and it turned out being this bug. i came across your post looking for instructions on retrieving the logs. thanks mate.
link
Problem: Error "24495 Active Directory servers are not available"
Authentication starts failing with this error: 24495 Active Directory servers are not available. in the ACS 5.3 logs.
Solution
Check the ACSADAgent.log file through the CLI of the ACS 5.x for messages such as:Mar 11 00:06:06 xlpacs01 adclient[30401]: INFO base.bind.healing Lost connection to xxxxxxxx. Running in disconnected mode: unlatch. If you see the Running in disconnected mode: unlatch error message, this means the ACS 5.3 cannot maintain a stable connection with Active Directory. The workaround is to either switch to LDAP or downgrade the ACS to 5.2 version. Refer to Cisco bug ID CSCtx71254 (registered customers only) for more information. -

SimonHello Prince Jose,
thanks for the reply, it brought me to the solution: I had to de-activate the Windows Firewall and hat to check 'Network users are allowed to change files'.
I know made it till phase 17, quite a step.

Hi,
Since we implemented Cisco ISE we receive the following failure on several Notebooks:
Authentication failed : 24408 User authentication against Active Directory failed since user has entered the wrong password
This happens 2 or 3 times per Day. So basically the authentications are working. But when the failure appears, the connection is lost for a short time.
The Clients are using PEAP(EAP-MSCHAPv2) for Authentication. We've got a Cisco Wireless Environment (WLC 5508).
Why is this happening?
Thanks,
MarcThe possible causes of this error message are:
1.] If the end user entered an incorrect username.
2.] The shared sceret between WLC and ISE is mismatched. With this we'll see continous failed authentication.
3.] As long as a PSN not receiving a response from the supplicant within this limit during an EAP conversation, it will throw this error code. In majority of cases it says eap session timed out.
In your cases, the 3rd option seems to be the most closest one.

Unable to save Unified Messaging PIN: Access to Active Directory Failed
I'm trying to enable all of our users for Unified Messaging and I've created a powershell script for each of users I want to enable but I am getting an error message everytime I try and run it.
Unable to save Unified Messaging PIN for mailbox 'smtp address': Access to Active Directory Failed
Our setup is forest root domain and 2 child domains. Most of the users are in the child domains and the Exchange server is in the forest root domain.
I'm using -domaincontroller but this doesn't make a difference. Here is the script I am using:
Enable-UMMailbox -Identity [email protected] -UMMailboxPolicy "DefaultUM Default Policy" -Extensions 303 -PIN 1234 -SIPResourceIdentifier "[email protected]" -PINExpired $false -domaincontroller "rc-curdc-01.curriculum.riddlesdown.local"
Can someone point out why this isn't working?I had the same experience as Gueetar. Couldn't enable a UM mailbox, or change the PIN. Got a generic "Access to Active Directory Failed" message instead of anything useful. Even went so far as enabled a ton of diagnostic logging, which didn't report anything
useful.
Of course, all the accounts I was enabling had the HiddenFromAddressListsEnabled property set to $true (these were old deactivated accounts I was using to test with). I found that setting it back to $false corrected the issue.
Of course I didn't know it was that exact problem at the time. I only found a difference after disabling/re-connecting mailboxes (and of course newly created mailboxes exhibited no issues). Assuming this was going to be the case for all mailboxes this would
be fine for testing and proof of concept, bad for production/implementation. Instead I ran a bunch of scenarios over two days, culminating in a crap load of LDIFDEs and DSACL dumps to enumerate the object properties and compare the values that were different.
This property (HideFromALEnabled) and a few others stood out. Luckily it wasn't ACL-related - that would've been a complete head wreck!
Dear Microsoft: More descriptive errors next time, please :) -
[SOLVED] Change directory failed on login
Hi,
I've just made a fresh install following the Beginners Guide, and after rebooting into Arch everything is ok if I login as root, but attempting to login as any other user gives me an error like:
-- user: /home/user: change directory failed: Permission denied
output of ls -l /home/ gives:
drwx------ 2 user users 4096 Feb 17 06:30 user
Help!
Last edited by personator (2013-02-16 15:51:04)personator wrote:drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 Feb 17 06:38 /home
Seems to be ok.
I can reproduce your error message when I do a chmod a-rwx /home/user but with 0700 as you wrote the login works.
Other wild guesses (with no profound knowledge from my side): Is the /home dir mounted from somewhere? Could it be some (misconfigured) security framework (selinux, AppArmor etc.) that blocks access to the home dir?

Enterprise Role grants in jazn-data fail for AD Provider User Accounts?
Hello All,
I have enterprise roles defined within my jazn-data.xml for my 11.1.1.4 web application. We just recently switched user accounts over to an active directory provider for authentication. So, I have user accounts associated with the active directory provider that are assigned to my enterprise roles. This is working fine because all of my EL expressions of the form #{securityContext.userInRole['EnterpriseRoleName']} are working great.
However, all of the grants in jazn-data.xml for pages that should only be viewable by users with this role are now not working. Users with this role see a "Internal Server 500" error with the message "oracle.adf.controller.security.AuthorizationException: ADFC-0619: Authorization check failed", rather than the related pages. This all used to work when the user accounts were not coming from the active directory provider.
As a work around, I've had to grant test-all view access to all pages, but hide controls and portions of pages that non-authorized users should see using EL like what I printed above.
This can't be right. Why are AD user accounts treated differently by WebLogic Server, when the security context indicates that the user has the proper role?
ThanksHaha... nice one. This is a low-key production app that is internal to this company. I can't have users with AD accounts, who used to have WLS internal accounts when the jazn grants worked, just stop using the application until some solution comes about. It may take days. I don't understand why you would leave such an unhelpful comment and then leave the discussion. Is this a precedence that you want set within your forum? Please help me to understand why this is a bad workaround. I'm just at the beginning of trying to figure out the root cause of this issue. A search didn't reveal any obvious answers, so I thought I'd reach out to my knowledgeable ADF friends on the forum to see if this was something that could easily be fixed.
Back to your comment -- why is this a mistake? I have always used the rendered attribute value to hide navigation points to pages that are supposed to be accessible to users with the enterprise role (e.g. rendered="#{securityContext.userInRole['EnterpriseRoleName']}"). This still works fine in the context of this problem, because the security context is working properly -- it's picking up user membership to enterprise roles. It's the jazn grants that are not working for the AD provider related users.
In this context, if some really smart user guesses the URL of a page I don't want them on because they don't have the role, then why can't I simply set rendered="#{securityContext.userInRole['EnterpriseRoleName']}" on the PGL that presents the body of the page? The content of the page isn't rendered. That's the point of the "rendered" attribute, right? Better yet, I could have a nice message that says that aren't authorized to view the page, rather than put a Java stack trace in their face. Why, then, as a temporary workaround, is this such a bad idea?
Thank you "sameera.sac" for the links. I'd seen the first one before posting and it wasn't pertinent. But I'll certainly research the others you provided.
Thanks -
Active Directory - "Failed to Ping Infrastructure Op Master"
FYI - I've opened this in the AD forum, and it was suggested I move this to SCOM, as it could be that I need to tweak SCOM settings for AD.
Hello - three of our domain controllers have started to randomly report this error at different times in the day. There have been three different occurrences from three different domain controllers. Two of the reporting domain controllers are VM's
- and one is physical. Switch logs look clean, no reports of any issues nor any other servers having network issues. As far as the error - it's being reported from SCOM and I'm wondering if this is a legit error or not. The Op Master is a
physical host, not a VM. Logs on both servers look clean, no sign of network issues. TIA!!
AD Op Master Response : Failed to ping Infrastructure Op Master 'servername.
The default gateway (172.25.x.x) is not pingable.
AD Replication Monitoring : encountered a runtime error.
Failed to write the adminDescription attribute of 'CN=servername,CN=,DC=com' to Active Directory.
The error returned was: 'The object already exists.
' (0x80071392)
Check the access permissions for this object.
Some more info on this:
I've checked AD performance (replication) and it looks like all is well. The question I have, is that this is also
the Primary DNS server for our internal networks. Is it possible that there could be too much traffic (ethernet) on the server and thus it's causing this alert? So in summary, this server is the PDC Emulator, RID Master, Infrastructure Master AND
the Primary DNS server. Our network is comprised of @ 400 servers, 1300 workstations, and a lot of in-house custom applications that who knows generates how many DNS requests....
Mike ZamboriniHello
I have 4 physical boxes and 4 virtual.
Most of the alerts are coming from the virtual boxes, but I have one instance where a physical box is reporting the issue too (talking to another physical box). So I guess I cannot say mines completely virtual. I can say this, the machines are
in blades.. Is it possible that I should be digging in on that side? (note, multiple blade chassis' are involved)

Hi Board,
i´ve search across the board, technet and symantec sites but did not found a hint about my problem.
we drive a 2 node DAG (Location1-Ex1-mb1

Since some time the backup of one - and only one DB - is failing with these events, logged on the Mailboxserver on which the passive DB is hosted.

The backup Application - Symantec Backup Exec 2010 R3 – states, this error
Snapshot provider error (0xE000FED1): A failure occurred querying the Writer status.
Check the Windows Event Viewer for details.

Symatec suggests within http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH184095
to restart the MS Exchange Replication Service – BUT the mentioned eventID
8229 isn´t present on any of the both Mailboxservers.
The affected Database is active on Location2-Exc1-Mb1 Server and in an overall healthy state. I found during my research, that below Location2-Exc1-Mb1 Server, there are not removed shadow copies present!
This confuses me, since all Backups are normally taken from the passive copy of a Database.
So my questions to the board are:
* Does anyone is facing similar issues?
* Can someone explain why snapshots are present on the Mailboxserver hosting the Active Database, whilst the errors are logged on the passive one?
- * Does someone know the conditions, why shadows copies remain and
aren´t removed in a proper manner?
What can cause the circumstance, that only 1 DB is facing such issues?
Any suggestion is welcome!
BR
MarkusHi Lenora,
I´ve encreases VSS / Exchange Backup Log levels to expert, before starting
those things i´ve all tried now:
- Backup from passive DB (forced within Symantec Backup Exec)
- Backup from active DB (forced within Symantec Backup Exec)
- Backup from passive DB without GRT enabled (forced within Symantec Backup Exec)
- Backup from active DB without GRT enabled(forced within Symantec Backup Exec)
All those attempts failed.
But brought some more details - the backup against the active DB states, that there is still a backup in progress and therefore this backup is cancelled by VSS.
The Solution was, that i´ve needed to restart the Exchange Replication Service on the Mailbox Server hosting the passive DB.
Backups are working again on all DBs!
THX for your replys.
Best regards
