Granting admin privileges to users on my site to upload files.

Hello everyone,
I'm confused about how I should set up permissions and access on my Lion web server. I'm using php/mysql for the entire site and have a user/pass stored in the database for the admin to add new records and things. This if I am correct, is completely different than how the server see's the user. In order to upload a file to the server successfully, I have to change the permissions on the upload folder to allow access for everyone... and that is not right. How can i specify if someone is a true admin user to the server? This is all within a local network by the way, with no access to the site outside of the network. Google has failed to supply me with the answer.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I'm guessing its not the access to the business area you need to prevent but the ability to create/edit reports based on the business area. To do this, ensure that the User Edition Create/Edit Query is unchecked - then the user will only have 'Viewer' rights regardless of the version of Disco they use.

    Hello to all,
    I wrote this simple servlet:

    String rtempfile = File.createTempFile("temp","1").getParent();

    Enumeration files= mpr.getFileNames();
    while (files.hasMoreElements()){
    String fileName = (String)files.nextElement();
    File file = mpr.getFile(fileName);
    When I try to upload the image I receive this error:

    Any idea where I make the mistake?
    Cristian

    The column types are correct. I double checked, but also I used the Business Components from Tables wizard to generate the EOs.
    I think the problem might be because JDev is set to use UTF8
    All of our tables are defined like:
    create table junk (col1 varchar2(10 BYTE));
    Notice the BYTE in the Varchar2. In all tables, ADF seems to throw the above error on ALL updates.
    Any ideas?

  • Grant Administrator privileges to users

    Problem Description:
    I need to grant Administrator privileges to one of my users. How do I do that? He needs to upload the reports and invite the users to view them.

    Post Author: mwong
    CA Forum: crystalreports.com
    HiAs of Dec 16, 2007, administrator can now grant administrator privileges to other users.We have added a new Administrators group in the users tab.  There are 3 scenarios for adding users to the Administrators group:Scenario 1: New user - If the user does not currently exist within
    your crystalreports.com account, you can add the new Administrator by clicking
    the Administrator user group on the Users tab
    and then clicking Add User.
    Scenario 2: Existing user added before December 15, 2007 - If the
    user is already in your crystalreports.com account and was added before December
    15, 2007, send an email to crystalreports.com Support at [email protected]
    with the user's email address. Support will notify you when the user is ready to
    be upgraded to Administrator status. Once you receive approval, you can then add
    the user to the Administrator user group on the
    Users tab.
    Scenario 3: Existing user added after December 15, 2007 - If the
    user is already in your crystalreports.com account and was added after December
    15, 2007, as a Member, you can add the new Administrator by
    clicking on the Administrator user group on the
    Users tab and then clicking Add User. If the
    user was added after Dec. 15, 2007 as a Guest, you must follow
    the instruction in Scenario 2. After completing either of the three scenario
    above, the new Administrator user will now have full rights to add users, upload
    or publish reports, and manage your crystalreports.com account. thanks!Michelle  Certain criteria must be met for an account to become an Administrator.See ALSO: http://technicalsupport.businessobjects.com/cs/forums/thread/14541.aspx

  • Can only choose attachments one at a time for webmail and for entries to an art organization website.  And the site's "Upload File" button will not respond, so I can't even upload the one jpg I have chosen.

    I am the only one who can't upload to the submissions page. Javascript is turned on, not java, with Safari 5.0.6 and Leopard. Thanks for helping.

    Thanks for your response.  I do have javascript turned on (not java).  To answer your question,
    I was trying to upload 3 jpgs to the submissions page of a visual arts website. I could only highlight one jpg at a time in the "Choose File" option, and then the "Upload File" button of the submissions page would not respond.
    It's an ongoing problem with this site (I'm the only one with this issue and there are a lot of submissions). I have to send the images as email attachements to the administrator of the site.  When doing this via webmail, I still the one attachment at a time problem, but the images get to the administrator.  Thanks for helping.

  • How to add a user when Muse site is uploaded without Business Catalyst?

    Hello,
    I have uploaded a Muse site for my client on her own ftp server. But how can I add her as a "inbrowser editor", so that she can manage the site when needed? Or is it only possible to add a user when I upload the site on the Business Catalyst host?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    The June 2014 update to Muse enables In-Browser Editing for Muse sites hosted with third-party (non-Adobe) providers.

  • Business Area not visible to account with admin privileges

    Hello,
    I've encountered the following scenario on visiting a client site:
    A Business area has been created by the EUL owner account (IFL) and he has granted admin privileges to another account (BRIANB who has been granted the DBA role). However, when BRIANB logs onto DIscoverer Admin, the Business area in question is not visible. BRIANB is able to create a new business area in the EUL which includes folders that are part of the 'invisible' BA. BRIANB is not able to access the 'invisible' BA using Discoverer End User. I'd be very grateful if anyone out there has an explantion for this,
    regards,
    KEvin.

    Problem solved. My client inadvertently created an additional EUL when initially logging onto Disco Admin as BRIANB. Thereafter this was the default EUL. The errant EUL has now been deleted the required BA's are now in view,
    Kevin.

  • Limited Admin Privileges/Specific Elevation of User Accounts

    I'm hoping to create an account on my laptop for my roommate.  I don't want him to have a full admin account, but he knows enough about computers that he could troubleshoot networking, and I want to enable him to install programs on the system.  I'm not sure what the best way to go about creating an account which can elevate itself for specific tasks; I've never modified my sudoers file before, and I don't know how to do so to grant him access to the privileges he should have.  I don't want to force him to use Terminal; I'd rather have him be able to enter a username/password for Admin privileges when prompted, whether that's his standard user account or a limited Admin account, but I want to make sure that account DOESN'T have access to modify anything in Users & Groups, can't create accounts with dscl, can't modify the keychain or hard drive partitions, etc.
    Am I right in thinking the sudoers file is the best way to approach this?  How do I find out what processes to allow access to?  Does Network Preferences, for example, have any dependencies he will also need to be able to run?  Also, is there a good starting point/article on modifying the sudoers file for this type of thing anywhere?  <<clearly googling the wrong thing because my searches just tell me how to add someone to the sudoers file>>

    To modify network settings he needs to be able to unlock the preference pane. If you can unlock one pane you can unlock them all including Users & Groups.
    While it is more feasible allow him some latitude in the application installing scenario it's going to be a pain. The non-server version of OS X is just not setup for this. Either a user has admin privileges or he doesn't there is no part way.
    Again if you trust him then you should also trust him not to do what you don't want him to do. If you tell him he can do x but please don't do y and you think he won't abide by your rules then giving him any access is potential trouble.
    And again if he can get to the machine when you are not around he can do what he likes, privileges or no privileges.
    good luck,
    regards

  • User requires ADMIN privilege to perform this operation.

    Hi
    I have written a procedure which creates a new workspace. The owner of the package has been granted apex_administrator_role. This works fine with SQL Developer/Plus.
    But when I try to use this procedure from my Apex page I get User requires ADMIN privilege to perform this operation.
    I understand that Apex makes a connection with APEX_PUBLIC_USER, and this can be one of the reasons of the error. But I would like to know if there is some solution:
    My code is:
          apex_instance_admin.add_workspace (
            p_workspace          => p_name,
            p_primary_schema     => p_name,
            p_additional_schemas => '');
      --p_name is passed as a parameter and workspace and primary_schema name are the sameHabib

    I think you will need to grant privleges to apex_instance_admin directly to the owner of the package.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E14072_01/network.112/e10574/authorization.htm#BABFJEGJ
    The privileges of the procedure's definer must be granted directly to the user, not granted through roles.

  • Network User with Local Admin Privileges?

    I have a small network (around 25 clients total) that was setup prior to my arrival. Each client has its own unique local admin (each machine was setup by the individual user) and it's become somewhat daunting to support them.
    All of the machines are connected (but not specifically bound) to an Open Directory and each is accessible via Remote Desktop, however I cannot push software updates, etc. without local admin privileges.
    I'd rather not create an account on each machine, nor do I want to completely lock down each computer (I'd like them to still have the flexibility to be admins so they can install apps, etc.)
    Is it possible to authenticate against OD and obtain local admin privileges?

    Yes.
    You can wipe all account information and then recreate a common initial admin account. This will make administration far easier as all machines will have the same admin username/password combination. Next, bind all of the systems to the domain and create domain accounts for all users on the server (likely already exist). Log in as the domain accounts and migrate permissions to domain ids. Finally, promote the user to the local admin group through System Preferences > Accounts on the workstation. You must enable the account as a mobile account in Workgroup Manager first. If you do not, the account will not cache to the workstation and you will be unable to add it to the admin group.
    Also, in a workgroup of 25, I would recommend rethinking the decision to grant local admin access to end users. This is asking for trouble as you will have no control over when updates are applied or even if they are. In theory (and probably in practice), you will have 25 completely different machines configurations. This is far harder to manage and troubleshoot than 25 systems with different admin accounts.
    If you must provide some level of autonomy, while not trivial, you might want to consider modifying /etc/authorization and granting limited admin rights to the users.
    Hope this helps - congrats on the opportunity

  • Granting table privileges on another users tables

    Can anyone tell me what privilege needs to be granted to a user to be able to grant insert/update/select/delete/execute on another users tables/packages?
    I had thought that 'grant any privilege' was the one to have... and - the user I am trying to use to grant the privileges on the other users schema has this however - I'm still getting : ORA-01031: insufficient privileges when trying to run the grants.
    Any ideas what I'm doing wrong here?

    Ok... well...
    The 'with grant' option doesn't appear to be the issue.
    The user attempting to perform the grants:
    i.e. GRANT SELECT ON user_2.table_1 TO view_role
    has the 'grant any object privilege' and - that seems to be enough. When I run the statement above as a simply as typed - it works fine.
    However - what I'm actually doing is concatenating that together in a string and running (from a package created by/as user_1) and doing an execute immediate...
    i.e.
    l_sql := 'GRANT ' || l_rec.privilege || ' ON ' || l_rec.owner || '.' || l_rec.table_name || ' TO ' || p_role;
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE l_sql;
    And - it's this that's giving me the insufficient privileges...
    I do not have invokers rights set on the package - so that shouldn't be an issue. And - I can't find any documented restriction on doing this (and - in fact - it works fine if I create the package as user_2 and run it as user_2 - the owner of the objects).
    I'm at a loss.

  • Flash Player Administration - upgrade users without admin privileges

    Is this possible? How have you answered this painfully obvious problem in your enterprise?
    We have a remote Sales Force which do not connect to our domain. I looked through the Admin Guide - I do not want to disable the auto-update. I want to make the auto-update work for users without admin privileges.

    Currently, the user does need to be an admin account for an update to occur.  However, the good news is that this will change in 11.2.  Once 11.2 is installed on Windows (using an admin account), there won't need to be further user interaction for future updates.  Users on limited accounts will be updated silently, without admin interaction.

  • Allowing non-admin users partial admin privileges

    Hi All
    I manage a number of Macs on a large corporate (PC-centric) network. Organisation policy prohibits giving users admin privileges. However, I want users to be able to do some admin tasks like installing software, but not to have admin privileges per se. The Parental Controls option for non-admin accounts does not offer sufficient functionality.
    All the Macs are stand alone (not managed accounts), and are accessible via Apple Remote desktop. Few of the Mac users are command line savvy, so any solution has to be invisible, or via a simple gui.
    Thanks in advance
    Dave Mitchelll

    Most software does not need to be in the Applications folder to run. Non-admin users can install most drag-and-drop software right inside their home folders and run the apps from there.
