Graphics in Scripts
Friends,
I tried uploading a tif file to document server & have done the following steps
1. Opened the BMP file in Paint and saved it as TIFF file.
3. Executed program RSTXLDMC
4. Gave the TIFF file path name
5. Gave Name for TEXT ID
6. Executed the program
But getting the following error.
Error : TIFF format error: No baseline TIFF 6.0 file
What might be the cause?
Hi Usha,
The TIFF file must be uncompressed. But there is no option in paint to save as uncompressed. Use another editor like Paint shop pro to save it. This will work.

Hi There,
I'm trying to use Fireworks for wireframe mockups but am having a hard time using images in the document library. At this stage I'm just trying to use the "Image Placeholder" that ships with CS5.
When you scale the image it won't really snap to guides or the grid (or other objects). I think this is because the little handles are outside the box maybe?
Thinking this was the case, I opened the "image Placeholder" from the library and adjusted the nine slice guides so they were pixel perfect on the outside of the box.
But now when I try to add it to the library I get an error "Component graphic or script edited".
Not sure what I'm doing wrong - I just want things to snap to pixels and line up with objects, guides and the grid of created.
Any help would be much appreciated.

BenAfter a bit more experimentation, it would appear that if you draw an object it is pixel perfect and snaps accurately.
But if you save the object as a symbol to reuse (I made my own image placeholder for example) then the little blue points are sometimes placed outside the edges which makes it impossible to use snapping with symbols - as FW snaps to the blue points and not the edges of the object.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Kind of renders symbols useless if you require accuracy - hope I'm wrong though.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Script to insert an existing Rich symbol throws error
I have an existing Rich Symbol called RSymbol. Now I write a script to place RSymbol into a certain layer which create. The problem is, that everytime i import a symbol like this with
fw.getDocumentDOM().importFile(fw.appSymbolLibrariesDir+"RSymbol.graphic.png", {left:136, top:108, right:136, bottom:108}, false, 0, false);
Fw doesnt import the properties for this symbol and throws an error "Component graphic or script edited An error occured"
I also tried to put the rich symbol in the appSwfCommandsDir but it didnt work either. I guess the problem could be that the RSymbol isnt in the Common Library folder. appSymbolLibrariesDir doesnt point to the common library folder but to some other folder (Adobe Fireworks CS5\Configuration\Libraries).
I also tried to use fw.getDocumentDOM().importFile(fw.appSettingsDir+"/Common Library/... but it doesnt work either.
I want to use this script in a panel so I cant hard code the absolute path.
Any suggestions how to import a rich symbol and make the rich properties available?
Thanks a lot!Sadly, I don't think there's any way to programmatically insert a rich symbol while maintaining its "richness". I tried and failed to do that in my QuickFire extension: http://johndunning.com/fireworks/about/QuickFire
The best I could do was to insert the symbol in a way that if you had already dragged that symbol from the common library into the document, the new instance would still show something in the symbol properties panel. Here's the code that QuickFire uses to insert symbols:

Flex 4.1 to 4.5.1 "Could not find compiled resource bundle 'controls' for locale 'en_US'."
I have a flex 4.1 project in which I want to use the latest spark datagrid changes in so am trying to update to 4.5
Having downloaded and added the sdk, switching the properties of my project and updating my datagrid skin classes to suit the latest changes I'm now getting the following error when trying to run my app:

I believe this is whilst trying to load a module as the first thing the app does is load a login module.

I'm taking this issue over as DannyT is away this week.
I have checked we are compiling all SWC's with 4.5.1 and it appears to be the case although we are using third party compiled SWC's for RobotLegs, Signals and some flash skins which I'm assuming wouldn't be an issue?
I've carried out comprehensive testing to narrow the problem down, I found that mx.controls.Image seemed to be causing some of the issues, when replaced with the spark Image the module was loading fine although I now then had an issue with the mx charting components so added a reference to the main app, as you say not the best work around and I'm still getting the same issue:
Error: Could not find compiled resource bundle 'controls' for locale 'en_US'.
We have other mx components in our modules and these seem to be fine although I haven't checked to see if they are being used throughout the app so they might be referenced in main. I've posted the link report xml below, any help or suggestions would be appreciated as we'd like to be able to use the latest version of the DataGrid.

#1 I'd really like to see a notepad app that you can scribble or write on with your fingers or pen - so you can jot down ideas, graphics or script.
SYSTEM
#2 Retrieval of user content (music, video, photo) - this means in the event your PC crashes or you lose your media you can get them back from the Touch or use the Touch as an auxiliary safe-storage device.
IMAGES
#3 Option to turning off image auto rotate and/or include auto rotate for largest displaying of photo.
Music
#4 Icon that allows you to (a) play this song more often or (b) play song less often. While playing some songs, I wanted the option to either play that song more often (when you really like it), less or not at all (when you don't like it anymore)- rather than making the changes on iTunes and re-syncing.
That's probably going to take up bits to mark those songs but a good idea would be to use folders. PlayOften Folder (play these songs often), PlayLess and DontPlay. When a user selects a song, it goes in the corresponding folder. And the computer from time to time selects songs based on those folders.

Hyperion Planning business rules migrating to Calc Manager issue
It was suggested I post this in calc manager as well, so I hope cross posting is allowed!
We are trying to migrate from Hyperion Planning 11.1.1.3 to 11.1.2.2
Our business rules were migrated to Calc Manager by our IT team. The rules run (for the most part).
Our main complaint about this migration is that it excluded our comments inside the business rules and added it's own!
When we first open the rule it is in graphical mode. But on the Script Tab I can see our orignal Business rule, but it's missing comments. Not all comments -- those at the top of the rule are intact, but after it starts getting into the meat of the rule, it loses many, but not all of the comments. When I chose to edit this rule in script mode, then calc manager adds tons if its own comments, making the code very junky to read.
So, multiple questions -- how do we get the migration of business rules to calc manager to stop losing our important comments. Is it possible to get the newly migrated rules to initially open in script mode rather than graphical mode so that it doesn't add it's own comments. Or is there a way to turn off the added commenting?

BrendaYou might learn to appreciate graphical mode in Calc Manager, we do. It is not like the old Business Rules in EAS. I am an old school calc script person, and have NO love for drag-and-drop coding ... I need control. ;-)
Insert a blank script object and paste your code into the 'Script' tab for that object. Set up your prompts and use the {} notation in your code. All of the comments will stay put ... as long as you DON'T USE EDIT, SCRIPT! We make a fair number of generic, reusable pieces of code and save them as shared scripts. These can be dragged into Rules. Click on the Rule's Begin object and choose the Script tab ... you will see how the bits are assembled into complete calc script. We've even come up with a way to use LOOP ... ENDLOOP as though it were a procedural IF statement so we can control whether or not a chunk of code is active or not.
Shared scripts are especially good for currency translation components since we occasionally add new currencies and want to make a change in one object that is used in dozens of business rules.

Builds warns for missing menu background image
Hi guys,
I'm having trouble with building a project. I have four menus; two for each language.
The first one (Swedish) works fine, scripting and branching is OK.
The second one (English) does not work at all. Even though I have set background and overlay image in the English menu(s), build warns that no image is set.
What should I do?
In my other post the English branch is not run at all, even if everything seems to be correct in Simulator, it does not work in DVD player.I'm using the UB version. The assets are all there, have double-checked.
I always use TIFFs for backgrounds and overlays, since layered menu could cause problems. (If not, they are at least slower on playback).
Alternate language menus? You must be joking, right? I would NEVER trust the viewer to set up their stand-alone DVD or computer to match language settings. Nope, plain old "duplicate" menus, with different graphics and scripting to stay in either menu branch.
I did the whole thing from scratch, using all the same assets. Now it works just fine.

I basically want to have a view that displays two columns from my table, but not have any of the columns repeat the same ID or Name
For example if table data looked like this

Mel 205

I want the View to display
Name ID
John 204
Mel 205
Mary 206
I feel as though there is a real easy solution to this but I'm not sure how to do it.

It will depends on ur data modelling.. and the logic
mainly 3 views
Attribute view - consists of dimension or master tables
analytical view - along with attribute view or some master tables it will have fact table or transaction table table (basically a numeric or measure column presenting in a table)
Calculation view - based on ur logic u can choose graphical/ complex -scripting methods...
(Graphical, scripting)
but in each step u should check the data integrity # no records retrieved are correct or not.., because in ur table if u r having composite relationships then data may go for looping especially when u r using analytical view..
so for simple architecture or aggregation columns u can go for analytical view
i enclosed file in which it explains the modeling structure on what purpose we need to use the 3 types of view..

Read a number from a variable, and rotate a shape
Hey all,
I'm using the variables panel in Illustrator to pull a data set I've got.
For example there's 2 text variables and 1 number going from 0-359. I'm looking for a script which looks at the variable name and pulls the number, then uses that number to rotate a shape by that many degrees.
I have no experience in scripting in illustrator, just hoping there's a wizard here who might be able to help?

DaveIMO you either use the app's data driven graphics or script… to do this sort of work easier than trying to work with both… My guess would be to just read a CSV or TDT text file and do rotation your stuff… There are plenty of CSV examples in this forum ( should the crappy search work )

Video controls for embedded video
I recently put together a flv for a client and had it
progressevly downloading. Which worked well, but he now wants it as
an exe so i have embedded the video along the timeline, but he
still wants to be able to control it.
So can somebody point me to some decent looking controllers
and some info on how to attach them to the video on the

You probably cannot edit the buttons until the project is published as this is just a graphic. When it's published you can edit that graphic the script associated with the buttons. -
Verizon Call Assistant website login error & other issues
I have had FiOS for about a month (10/2MB Internet, TV, and phone). I signed up for and have been intermittently able to access Verizon Call Assistant about a week ago. If I go to http://www.verizon.com/callassistant, I get the VCA screen, and try to log in. Every time, my login fails with an error "Blah".
If I go to http://www.verizon.com, I get a display of my services, including (only when logged in from my home), a short list of recent calls to my home. If I click on the detail link, I get into Verizon Call Assistant automatically (no login required). At home, I'm running Linux, so I can't run the Call Assistant program (anyone know if there's a version for Linux?)
Also, VCA does not list voicemails. I had a call the other day which left a voicemail and purposely did not check it for several (over six) hours, to see if it would eventually show up on VCA. The call appeared almost immediately, but the voicemail never appeared (I eventually listened to and deleted it).
Anyone have similar experiences?

1) I use this link to get to the web Call Assistant site: https://www22.verizon.com/callassistant/. Don't know if it will work any better than the one you have been using, but you might try it. I have never had a login fail.
2) have Flash blocked on my browser (I selectively allow Flash using IE7Pro), so apparently Call Assistant does not use flash. But it may need some other service that I don't block. So the question is, do you have any graphic or script "stuff" blocked that the site might need?
3) I am not aware of a Linux client. You don't have a Windows system at home that you can install the client on? The client needs some enhancements, but it is a start. And I too would like a Linux client, I have dual boot on both my desktop and laptop.
4) I don't use voicemail so I cannot provide any experience or advice for that.
I suggest you contact the Help Desk for Call Assistant (1-888-483-5156). I have called them twice, right when I first started using Call Assistant, and they answered the phone quickly, called back when they said they would, and were very helpful.
Good luck, I hope you can get your problems resolved. I like having Call Assistant, although I have passed along via the Help Desk a number of improvements I think they need to make (and now we just wait and hope......)

Launching an Adobe AIR file from Director 11
I am not much of a Lingo programmer and am trying to figure out how to launch an external application from within Director 11. Have done alot of searching and reading on the internet and everything I found points to using the following script or BuddyAPI

This is part of a canned "RollOver Graphic Change" script. On mouseUp it calls that line.
I also looked at BuddyAPI but don't know enough lingo to understand how to use it.
Any ideas on what is wrong with my line of script?
Has anyone tried lauching an AIR file within Director?
The air file is in the same folder as my .dir file.The problem with using the native 'open()' command you posted is that you probably also need to provide the full path to the executable that will open the .air file, and what's more if something goes wrong there is no way for you, the developer, to programatically determine this. In that sense it is better to use the Buddy API xtra - just be sure to remember to distribute it with your projector:
