Grid Infrastructure change language

Hello
I have successfully installed GI on a 2 nodes Redhat 5.5 cluster. At installation time I choose French and English as it was suggested by the installer. Now all the messages from crsctl are in French (which is not the bad thing) but it looks like there is a character set coding issue, all specific characters like "é" or "è" , ... are not correctly displayed. It is then really hard to read something.
I have tried playing with LANG (tried LANG=C, LANG=fr_FR, LANG=fr_FR.iso*, ....) without success, so I have some questions :
- can I select somewhere the language used for the cluster messages (I can go back to English this is not a problem)
- can I display the French version the right way ?
- what are the tools/files managing the character-set mechanisms in GI

Oracle 11.2 standalone grid infrastructure - change hostname

Hi
I have changed hostname of my server running RHEL 5.3 with Oracle 11.2 Grid Infrastructure (standalone). After I changed the hostname of the server, the crs daemon stopped working and I cannot connect to my +ASM instance any longer.
In Oracle 10g2it was enough to run localconfig delete, localconfig add
What should I do in 11.2 ?

I recently found myself asking the same question and after a fair amount of digging around I found a way to do it. Your question is now a few months old, so maybe you have found the solution already, but if not the key is using roothas.pl rather than localconfig. Changing database name in 11.2.0.3 grid infrastructure

I have recently installed 11.2.0.3 grid infastructure and database on an AIX 6.1 platform.
Our manager does not like the name was have chosen for the database that we install a single instance database using dbca and it is all configured in oracle restart which has bee starting all of the resources perfectly upon reboots.
We are using ASM for the database files and a jfs file system for the fast recovery area.
Can we change the database name easily or will this require confgiuration changes within the grid infrastructure installation as well?

1)To change DB name:
CREATE CONTROL FILE statement or use NID utility
2)Drop the old configuartion from oracle restart
srvctl drop database -d <dbname>
3)Register new configuration
srvctl config database -d <dbname>

How to install Oracle 11.2.0.4.0 Rac Database on Grid Infrastructure 12.1.0.2.0 (Windows 2012 R2)

Hi all.
This is the scenario:
I have a 2 node cluster Microsoft Windows 2012 R2 x86_64, the nodes are part of domain.
Installed Oracle 12cR1 (12.1.0.2.0) as follows:
Installation done using domain administrator named "installoracle" that has been EXPLICIT promoted to local administrator in both nodes.
One domain user named "oracle12c" with no administrator privileges neither in the domain or nodes.
Installation, after a lot of customization in the OS of the nodes, has gone ok, perfect indeed, not even a warning during runinstaller execution.
All services and resources are up & running, I have rebooted nodes and all comes back ok in place. In windows services I can see some services started with "oracle12c" user, and all windows groups: DBA, SYSKM, etc, has been created.
Now I have to install Oracle RAC database in 11gR2 version (11.2.0.4.0) to accomplish with application requirements.
So, I execute runInstaller (setup.exe) logged as administrator via domain administrator "installoracle" (the one that was able to do the smooth 12c GI installation) and the gui comes with out problems, but at 4th screen the one in which you have to choose what kind of installation you want to do (Single, RAC or RoN) I select RAC option, the gui returns error: crs is not running in the local node...
Finally, in order to deliver some database 11.2.0.4.0 for my customer, I try to do installation of SW for Single Node, I did using "installoracle". The sw has been installed in one of the nodes. Then I have created a database and I have stored datafiles in ASM (this ASM is part of 12c clusterware) and also register the 11gR2 single instance database in the Grid Infrastructure listener
So, whats next??? Why is this behavior??? I did similar installations in Linux/Solaris with no issue (well as everyone can imagine, always there are some issues, but when solved you got GI in 12c and databases in the release that you want 12c, 11g, 10g...)

To go back to old version (without changing compatible parameter), you can perform downgrade.

In this case you will having all the data file including the new one.
But remember database may not be in the same status as before (Before upgrade). it may have invalid objects of higher version after downgrade.
Downgrade is applicable only to successfully upgraded databases. In case upgrade faced some issue, do not try downgrade there.
Your second approach it not correct. Note that each datafile header will have db version. We can not open database in normal mode when header version and binary versions are different.

my firewall is offline so what prevents oracle from using that port i tried also to use another port but i am getting the same error.

Installing Grid Infrastructure 11.2.0.2 fails on Oracle Linux 5.6 and 6.0

Hi all,
We are in the process of building our new enterprise environment and tried to install the following:
Oracle Linux 6.0
Grid Infrastructure 11.2.0.2
ASM
OCFS2
Oracle RDBMS 11.2.0.2
Installation of Grid Infrastructure failed on Oracle Linux 6.0 and 5.6 as well. Is it because it's not yet certified for these Oracle Linux versions? Where can we find compatibility matrixes or certification information to find out which versions do work together? Been trying to find them with no success.

My guess is that testing happened solely on new h/w where this errata did not have to be applied, thus were not tested. Also, this service failed to start the srp_daemon (is critical for making sure that the storage layer works each and every time and does not cause stale connections that lead to command rejections from the storage server after a reboot of a RAC node)
I not only had to fix the openibd service to correctly apply the errata, but also write a separate srpd service that dealt with starting up and shutting down the srp_daemon.
Not very impressed with OEL 5.6 at all and it will be unlikely that we'll use it. And it raises a lot of concern whether OEL 6 would be a robust enough o/s for running our RAC systems.

How to remove Disk Group after deinstall of Grid Infrastructure

I deinstalled an Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a standalone server. I made the mistake of telling OUI not to drop the Disks/Disk Group. Now when I try to do a new install it shows the disks as members of a Disk Group already on the page 'Create Disk Groups'. How can I get those disks out of the disk group? I tried oracleasm but it does not see any Disk Groups.

OS is CentOS 5.6
I am using formatted (ext3) logical volumes. Let me explain a bit why I am doing this. This is a system I lease for my own personal use. I am leasing it so that I can learn Oracle High Availability. Unfortunately due to how each VM is provisioned only a single virtual disk (raw disk) is allocated per instance. I have not leased a dedicated server due to the cost and so do not have/cannot get multiple raw disks. The logical volumes aren’t setup with any RAID on my virtual machine as there are just additional LVM’s assign internally to my server. The underlying host server uses RAID-10.
When I set up the Disk Group "DATA" for ASM I used the following:

That worked fine when I set it up initially. But then I realized the groups were not set correctly for the oracle user or the ASM home after I did the install. So I uninstalled the ASM and then set the groups correctly for the Oracle user. However, when I uninstalled the ASM I mistakenly chose not to blow away the disk group. So now when I try to install the Grid Infrastructure using OUI it shows the 3 disks I want to use as already being members of a Disk Group and I don't know how to change that. I tried the oracleasm deletedisk command but oracleasm does not think any disk groups exist.
[root@remarkable:/dev/mapper]oracleasm listdisks
[root@remarkable:/dev/mapper]oracleasm deletedisk Disk1
Disk "DISK1" does not exist or is not instantiated
So I am not sure where to go from here.

I am experiencing some difficulty understanding where to install install GI
According to "Oracle® Grid Infrastructure Installation Guide 11g Release 2 (11.2) for Oracle Solaris", http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e24616/presolar.htm :
The OFA path for the Oracle base is /u01/app/user, where user is the name of the software installation owner.
So, i'm expecting to see Oracle Database binaries in /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0.3
and Grid Infrastructure (ASM,Oracle Restart) binaries in /u01/app/grid/product/11.2.0.3
Why i have to create /u01/app/11.2.0/grid ? Why GI is installed to /u01/app/11.2.0/grid, not to /u01/app/grid ?

So, Oracle base for the grid installation owner "/u01/app/grid", and if the user is oracle "/u01/app/oracle". A Grid Home should be /u01/app/11.2.0/grid. (i.e GI_HOME out of ORACLE_BASE)
The reason behind this is:
In version 11.2 Oracle introduced a security that protects the binaries Installation of Grid Infrastructure. This prevents unnecessary changes or access in that OH.
To modify binaries of grid infrastucture, you must unlock that ORACLE_HOME.
So this security must not be applied to ORACLE_BASE of Grid Installation.

P.S Homes for Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a standalone server (Oracle Restart) can be under Oracle base.

Reinstall Grid infrastructure ASM no cadiates.

we need to reinstall complete grid infrastructure.
At the point to choose the candidates for ASM to store OCS we habe only members no cadidates.
We try to low level format all LUN´s but installer still shows only member no candiates.
I witch format or how to reset theLUN´s to be a candidate not a member of the old installation.
how to change state of LUN ?

Hi,
It is because the header of the disk still marked as ASM, you need to clean this header
run this simple command dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/{your asm disk} bs=1024k count=50

Disks don't show --- Solaris 10, Grid Infrastructure 11gR2 Install

I am installing 11gR2 grid infrastructure on a standalone server. It is SPARC Solaris 10. Followed the documentation for preparing disk partitions for ASM. But after launching runInstaller, at step of "Create ASM disk group", no disk shows up. Therefore disk group cannot be created. And the installation cannot continue. Tried ORCL:* for Change Discovery Path. It did not work.
Any help is appreciated.

do you on a step at the installation of the ASM or is the ASM Instance installed and ready to use ?
Check the asm_diskstring parameter in the pfile if the ASM can discover the drives correctly .
Are you create a partition our ASM drives ?.

Install of grid infrastructure @ win 2008 server

hello!
i'm a newbie on oracle rac/grid and so i think there will be an easy answer to my question. i want to install oracle grid infrastructure on windows 2008 (r2) with asm on a san storage.
i worked through a lot of tutorials, but till now i didn't manage to find the san in the "create ASM disk group" dialog (installation of grid infrastructure). i think i have to change the "discovery path", but i don't know how.
which additional information is needed so that someone can help me?

Asm candidate disk not listed in the OUI grid infrastructure

I am installing 11g R2 two node RAC on OEL 5. 4.and openfiler
In the middle of the GRID infrastructure installation,at the window "Create ASM Disks", the disks are not listed.
I have installed and configured Asm lib through configure command
I was able to list the disks with the below commands
1./etc/init.d/oracleasm listdisks it was listing
CRSVOL1
DATA1
FRAVOL1
2. /etc/init.d/oracleasm-discover ORCL:*
i was able to discover the disks
I had change the Discovery path in the "Create ASM Disks" to ORCL:* still it is not appearing
Any help is appreciated.

Hi,
You can change Discovery Path of ASM to : /dev/oracleasm/disks/*
It's same result and Oracle recommend do that in case of discover (ORCL:*) not working.

I try install Oracle Grid Infrastructure 11.2.0.1. OS - OEL 6.4 x86_64
But running script "/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/grid/root.sh" failed:

Command Spacebar opens Spotlight as you have found out. If you want to change languages you need to say what app you are using to write the story in, I'm guessing you are using Pages or MS Word. If that's the case
Pages: Open Inspector - Click the T tab - Click Language and change your language.
MS Word: Tools Menu - Language - Choose your language.
