Is anyone using this with Logic Express and OSX 10.6.6.I find it is ok stand alone and as VST in Ableton Live but it always crashes in Logic

Yes, I just got GA3 installed, after removing propellerhead software folder from app support in library and other install procedures, and got it running in logic. I decided to leave logic and do stand alone to learn it (groove agent 3), then when returning to logic, I tried to load it and it keeps crashing.

Groove Agent 2 as plug in

Hi all. Have installed GA2 on my imac and was hoping to use it as a plug in within garageband. I have checked and can confirm the .component file is in the 'plug in' folder. I have restarted the mac but still no luck - i can see all my other plug ins (ezdrummer etc) but still no GA. I have no idea what else to do and there is literally nothing about this topic on the Steinberg forums. please help (again).

I think the problem is that the GA2 plug-in is PowerPC only. The standalone may work but the current versions of GB and Logic will not recognize the plug-in.
Just to confirm, I have both Groove Agents 2 & 3 loaded on my iMac, and GB and Logic Express 9 will both recognize GA3 (which is Universal Binary) but not GA2. However, both GA2 & GA3 work as standalones.

Groove Agent 2 (3rd party plugin) with Logic

Hi, I'm attempting to use Steinberg Groove Agent 2 (cool virtual drumbox) with Logic 7.1.0. (I saw a friend using them together via laptop on a gig, and I never had trouble using Spectrasonics Stylus with Logic so I assumed this should also work; I hope I wasn't dumb to try.)
GA2 required a Steinberg key, which is now authorized. Thanks to a thread here, I found preferences>Start Logic AU Manager and enabled the plugin. When I load GA2 into an Audio Instrument, it shows up onsceen and plays. So far so good.
Midi Output is enabled on GA2; this is supposed to allow a midifile of any GA drum pattern to be recorded into Logic. However, when I select the GA track in Logic and hit record, GA plays and Logic's meter flashes but Logic does not record midi data. (Of course Logic can record midi from my keyboard, but not from this plugin.)
1) What do I need to do to record midi data output from a plug-in, such as this GA2, in Logic?
GA2 manual suggests turning on the SysEx filter in the sequencer when running GA2, so that Run and Stop commands aren't written into the Midi part. (The midi part isn't recording to Logic yet, but: )
2) How do I turn on the SysEx filter on this Audio Instrument in Logic?
When I hit play in the Logic song, the GA2 starts playing. However, when I hit stop (key command, or mouse on stop) both Logic and GA2 often keep playing. (Of course without the GA2, Logic works fine.) Other mouse functions such as clicking mute buttons on the GA2 don't work reliably either.
3) Why would Logic or the plugin ignore the mouse or stop command? How do I need to change my setup?
Thanks for any help. I've used Logic for ten years, but Stylus was the only third party plugin I'd used & it was flawless.

I used to use GA2 on my PC (before I became a Mac user). Once I bought my Mac I got rid of my PC.
But the disc I have for GA2 has both the PC and Mac version on it, so it was working on my PC, but not on my Mac.
When I try to start it use it as a standalone on my Mac, it starts to load, then a message window appears and says: "No protection device is connected".
I never had this problem when I used to use it on my PC.

Compatibility issues with Groove Agent 3

Hi everyone,
I´ve recently acquired Groove Agent 3 in order to gain time laying drum tracks on demo songs. After running it as a VSTi under Logic Express 8 I realised the MIDI output function of GA3 was not working. I can hear the drum pattern, the meters move accordingly and I can play or pause GA3 directly from Logic but I cannot record the MIDI track.
I've tried exporting MIDI with GA as a stand-alone and Rewire as well but didn´t work either.
I´ve checked for support on Apple´s forum and found a couple of articles dating back 2005 and 2007. Does anyone know if the compatibility between GA and Logic has been updated?
The MIDI output is vital for me since it enables to edit the drum track!
If the compatibility issues are still unsolved does anyone know a way around?

Hi Antoine,
GA3 is not the easiest VSTi/plugin to figure out. Regarding recording MIDI grooves live to host, Steinberg admits that they can't guarantee that this will work in anything other than Cubase. You can play and record the drum kits manually via your keyboard, but if you try to record the grooves in LE8 all you get are the "controller notes" which simply trigger the grooves and do not display individual notes that you can edit.
However, I am able to successfully export grooves to MIDI files in LE8. You probably already know that before you begin recording you go to Edit/Setup in GA3 and set GA MIDI Output to "Record To File." The really important thing to remember is that after you stop recording you need to go back to GA and turn the MIDI Output off. This is what tells GA3 to create a MIDI file and save it to your desktop.
Finally, admittedly a bit convoluted, you need to drag & drop this MIDI file onto your track. You will then have all your individual editable notes.

Can anyone tell me how to get groove agent 2 installed in Logic Pro 7?

I've only just started using Logic Pro but I can't seem to get Groove Agent working. It works in stand alone mode but I can't get it to work as an instrument. If anyone can help it would be muchh appreciated.

Well according to your signature you have the Macbook and as fas as I know none of the Steinberg stuff is yet Universal so it appears you can't have it working just yet. Otherwise I would check that you have installed also the AU version which is what Logic looks for but in your case it doesn't help.

GaraBand '08 and Steinberg's Groove Agent 2

I have both GA2 and GA3 on my iMac (10.5.6) and can tell you that GA3 functions in LE8, but GA2 is ppc, not universal, and it is not recognized by Logic.

I can't find what you told me, about the DLS and this AU Generator and AU Instruments in the Info panel
There is only the Keyboard sensitivity slider.
Two things to try:
Check, if you have the Audio Units enabled in GarageBand 10.0.x 's Preferences > Audio tab:
Check, if your "Smart Controls" panel is large enough to show all items. You may need to enlarge it by dragging the dividing line between the Smart Controls and the track area upward. Or try to scroll the Info pane, even if there are no visible scrollbars.
You may want to change the settings in Mavericks' System Preferences to always show the scrollbars. This way you will be able to tell, if panes in GarageBand are completely visible or need to be enlarged or scrolled.

Recording drum tracks in Logic using Groove Agent 2 or 3

I'm trying to record some drum tracks using Grove Agent 3. I can hear the drums and see the meter jumping but there is no recording. Help please

Logic cannot record Groove Agrnt's MIDI output, I can't remember whether it's
AUi or Logic that isn't developed to that point yet. I know it's in the AUi spec
but don't think Logic has that capability.
If it's audio you want to record, solo and "Bounce" the Groove Agent instrument
track. That will get you an audio recording. Cubase makes it a bit easier as it
will record Groove Agent's MIDI output for editing purposes before
bouncing/exporting.

Groove Agent 2 and Audition are driving me nuts!

Can someone please help me with this? Believe me- I've tried everythign I can think of, including reading the Groove Agent Manual.
I am simply trying to run Groove Agent 2, from Audition 3, and record the beats that come out of it. I tried inserting a midi track, using the sequencer and loading it as a vst. I also tried using rewire _ I enabled rewire and selecting the Groove Agent 2 box, and then said launch the application. This created a track in the multi tracker (at leats it seemed to have colored a track), but it did not actually launch groove agent.
Help. I've tried so many things, i'm all mixed up now

You do know that all those tabs in the Viewer can be pulled off into their own separate windows, don't you? Just put the mouse cursor on a tab, hold down the mouse button, and drag the tab off to one side where it will stand alone in its own window. When you click that window closed, it will once again become a tab on the Viewer.
Thus, for example, you can double-click a clip on the Timeline up into the Viewer window, and then drag the Motion tab off the Viewer window so that it becomes its own window. Then whatever you do in the Motion tab's window, you can watch to see how it affects the video in the Video tab.
A big monitor, or two of them, are helpful when you get a bunch of these windows open.

Groove Agent 2, can it work with Logic Express 8?

I have Logic Express 8, and Steinberg Groove Agent 2. I was able to install it, but when I open Logic Express 8, Groove Agent 2 is not in my list of instruments.
When I installed Groove Agent 2, it did not ask me for my activation code, which I thought was strange.
Groove Agent 2 is an AU.
I have a White MacBook, 2.1 Intel, 4gigs RAM, and Leopard 10.5.8

Logic 8 and Groove Agent 3 - how the **** do they work?

I feel a real idiot writing this. Please bear with me.
I first purchased Groove Agent 1 when I was using Cubase 4 on a Pismo Powerbook. Everything was simple straight-forward and relatively intuitive. Then I bought an Intel iMac, Logic 7 and Groove Agent 2 - which turned out to be incompatible with Intel Macs. Two or three years later Steinberg finally brought out Groove Agent 3 so I paid for it and upgraded to Logic Studio 8.
I have had it for about a year and have STILL not worked out how to get Groove Agent to even show up, let alone work.
Can anyone tell me if Groove Agent is a plugin or a software instrument? It doesn't show up as a proper option anywhere. It shows up and is selectable as an INPUT on a midi track but nothing ever happens.
I have spent days falling asleep over the Apple Logic User's Manual and cannot find out how to select Groove Agent as an instrument or as an output or as ANYTHING that will produce drums sounds off a midi track!

Don't worry - I have found the answer!
Simply go to the AU manager in Logic Express 8 and revalidate Groove Agent 3.0.2.14. It takes a while, and for a long time it seems like it's going nowhere, but it works in the end!

Hi Guys, I have been trying to record some grooves from GA3 in GB09. Have loaded up a GB drumkit. Got a signal on the recording track when triggering GA3. Hit the record button, recording bar appears but nothing gets recorded. Am I missing something?

Groove Agent 3 to record into LE8?

Hey all....
Anyone have any experience recording the audio of one of the pre-sets in GA3 to a track in LE8? I guess this is a pretty easy thing to do (I used to do it in Sonar on my PC years ago...), but I'm having a lot of trouble getting this to work.
Also, if anyone out there has been able to record the MIDI data from a GA3 groove into LE8, information regarding on how to do THAT would be awesome, as well! (The GA3 manual says that it doesn't "guarantee" MIDI out recording to the host in anything but Cubase....grrrrrrrr!!!!!).

The recording MIDI fault has nothing to do with Steinberg/Cubase, Logic has never implemented this feature although the AU spec does allow it. This one is a Logic feature "not yet implemented".
It's very easy to route AUi inputs/outputs (includung MIDI) in Cubase as each track has a drop down selector for both.

Anyone using Groove Agent 3 / Logic Pro 8 ?

So far it seems that all I will be able to do is create external midi-files then import them back in which is tedious as **** when trying to create a dynamic drum track full of changes. Cutting and pasting these tracks seems to be difficult once they are imported. What I wanted were prerecorded drum tracks with realistic fills and changes I could cut and paste via midi data - so far its not working the way I hoped.
Curious to see if anyone has any tips? Is there any hope or am I going to be banging my head against the wall creating drum tracks using GA3 w/ LP8?

When used as a VST with Cubase, GA3 can write the MIDI data directly onto an instrument track as the machine is played, skipping the "create external MIDI file/import.
What you need to look at are the automation capabilities.
Every parameter of the GA series can be automated. If you map the song out and "play" GA3's buttons, Logic records your "performance".
Fills, 1/2 Time, Pattern Change...etc are all recordable via automation.
Affer you get the song mapped out and the automation/performance finished the track can then be bounced as audio or exported as MIDI for editing.
