Group by function with CLOB fields in Select statement

I have the following sql trying to query our database. Removing the Clob field (a.description) I am successful. But I need the Clob field (a.description). Here is my current sql
select  a.id_number, a.id_owner,  MAX (n.next_action_required)
            KEEP (DENSE_RANK LAST ORDER BY n.modified_date),
         MAX (n.modified_date) KEEP (DENSE_RANK LAST ORDER BY n.modified_date)
from table1 a, table2 n
where a.id_number = n.id_number
group by a.id_number, a.id_ownerI tried the following which works sometimes but not always because the Clob field (a.description)'s length varies; anywhere from 10 characters up to 12,000 characters. I get some blanks with the following and some where text is cut off. I may not be writing the dbms_lob.substr function correct.
select  a.id_number, a.id_owner,  MAX (n.next_action_required)
            KEEP (DENSE_RANK LAST ORDER BY n.modified_date),
         MAX (n.modified_date) KEEP (DENSE_RANK LAST ORDER BY n.modified_date) , DBMS_LOB.SUBSTR (a.description, 8001, 10000)
from table1 a, table2 n
where a.id_number = n.id_number
group by a.id_number, a.id_owner, DBMS_LOB.SUBSTR (a.description, 8001, 10000)Please help. Thank you,

Maybe,
but throw it away if the combination a.id_number,a.id_owner,n.next_action_required(a.id_number = n.id_number),n.modified_date(a.id_number = n.id_number) is not unique
select nd.id_number,
       nd.id_owner,
       nd.next_action_required,
       nd.modified_date,
       a.description
  from (select a.id_number,
               a.id_owner,
               MAX (n.next_action_required) KEEP (DENSE_RANK LAST ORDER BY n.modified_date) next_action_required,
               MAX (n.modified_date) KEEP (DENSE_RANK LAST ORDER BY n.modified_date) modified_date
          from table1 a,
               table2 n
         where a.id_number = n.id_number
         group by a.id_number,
                  a.id_owner
       ) nd,
       table1 a
where nd.id_number = a.id_number
   and nd.id_owner = a.id_owner
   and nd.id_number = (select id_number
                         from table2
                        where next_action_required = nd.next_action_required
                          and modified_date = nd.modified_date
                      )Regards

  • Where condition with optional fields in select statement

    Hi,
    In a function module I have to fetch data based on 7 fields out of which 6 are optional.
    If we won't enter values for optional fields it will take default values as zeroes .
    So this is not fetching data. But for some fields some values has zero values.
    How to solve this condition?
    Regards,
    maha.

    Hi,
    For those import parameters for which its mentioned as optional, use like condition in the where clause of select statement in the function module.
    try like this,
    concatenate pfield2 '%' into pfield2.
    concatenate pfield3 '%' into pfield3.
    concatenate pfield4 '%' into pfield4.
    concatenate pfield5 '%' into pfield5.
    concatenate pfield6 '%' into pfield6.
    concatenate pfield7 '%' into pfield7.
    select *
    from db table
    into itab
    where field1 = pfield1 and
               field2  like pfield2 and
               field3  like pfield3 and
               field7 like pfield7.
    Now even if the optional fields are blank, data will be selected

  • Understanding logminer results -- inserting row into table with CLOB field

    In using log miner I have noticed that inserts into rows that contain a CLOB (I assume this applies to other LOB type fields as well, have only tested with CLOB so far) field are actually recorded as two DML entries.
    --the first entry is the insert operation that inserts all values with an EMPTY_CLOB() for the CLOB field
    --the second entry is the update that sets the actual CLOB value (+this is true even if the value of the CLOB field is not being set explicitly+)
    This separation makes sense as there may be separate locations that the values are being stored etc.
    However, what I am tripping over is the fact the first entry, the Insert, has a RowId value of 'AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA' which is invalid if I attempt to use it in a flashback query such as:
    SELECT * FROM PERSON AS OF SCN #####'  where RowId = 'AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA'The second operation, the Update of the CLOB field, has the valid RowId.
    Now, again, this makes sense if the insert of the new row is not really considered "+done+" until the two steps are done. However, is there some way to group these operations together when analyzing the log contents to know that these two operations are a "+matched set+"?
    Not a total deal breaker, but would be nice to know what is happening under the hood here so I don't act on any false assumptions.
    Thanks for any input.
    To replicate:
    Create a table with CLOB field:
    CREATE TABLE DEVUSER.TESTTABLE
            ID NUMBER
           , FULLNAME VARCHAR2(50)
          , AGE NUMBER
          , DESCRIPTION CLOB

    SELECT DBMS_FLASHBACK.GET_SYSTEM_CHANGE_NUMBER FROM DUAL;Insert a new row in the test table:
    INSERT INTO TESTTABLE(ID,FULLNAME,AGE) VALUES(1,'Robert BUILDER',35);
         COMMIT;Capture the after SCN:

               DBMS_LOGMNR.COMMITTED_DATA_ONLY + DBMS_LOGMNR.NO_ROWID_IN_STMT + DBMS_LOGMNR.NO_SQL_DELIMITER)Query the logs for the changes in that range:

    Scott,
    Thanks for the reply.
    I am inserting into the table over a database link.
    I am using the new version of HTML Db (2.0)
    HTML Db is connected to an Oracle 10 database I think, however the table I am trying to insert data into (via the database link) is in an Oracle 8 database - this is why we created a link to it as we couldn't have the HTML Db interacting with the Oracle 8 database directly due to compatibility problems (or so I've been told)

  • Getting table script using dbms_metadata.get_ddl, but with clob field

    So, Oracle 11g R2..
    I'm using dbms_metadata.get_ddl to get table scripts and it's working fine..
    now, I have a table with clob field, and it's not working... I got an 'missing right parenthesis (ora-0907)' error...
    I could paste a script that I got, but I don't think it makes any sense..
    does anybody have some experience on using this package on clob tables?
    tnx

    this is script that I got... it's long, and it looks like it's not good

  • Problems While Working With CLOB fields

    HI Friends,
    I am facing one big problem while working with CLOB fields. I work in crystal reports in my project and My team is works in BMC Remedy tool. As per database configuration by default the date fields are stored in numbers. There is a field named Work Log which stores the complete history information of a ticket or a call.
    While generating reports I convert the date fields from numbers into date values by using to_date function. But I am not able to change the dates mentioned in the worklog which is a CLOB field. As a result when I am generating reports text part of the work log is comming fine but the date fields are comming in numbers.
    Please refer the below example:-

    See the first line of the worklog "1291012455anilkumarptesting", 1291012455 is referring a date value, but due to database configuration it's comming in number. All the other numbers in the above text are dates only which need's to be converted. These dates are captured in remedy tool when someone updates that ticket.
    I am not able to decide how to change this numbers into dates. As it is containing lot's of numbers i am really confused how to come with a solution.
    Can I expect a solution from you, atleast a way how to proceed resolving this problem. Should I have to write a procedure for this??
    Please help..........
    Kindly let me know if you need any more input.
    Regards,
    Arijit

    1291012455 represents a date value,What date value does it represent? Since it's not obvious to us what date you want that converted into, it's obviously hard for us to help. For example, perhaps you want that to be Jan 29, 2010 with "12455" representing a time component in some non-obvious format. Perhaps you want that to be December 1991 at 1:24:55. Perhaps you want to convert it to a completely different date. You're going to need to tell us in words how to convert your numeric data into a date.
    My question is how can I convert all the numbers into date in the CLOB field and present it in a proper manner.Given your sample data, what do you expect the output to be? Do you expect many rows of data, one for every date in the CLOB? Do you expect a comma-separated list? Something else?

  • Rfc functions with export field type exid h

    Hi, in WAS700 I encountered rfc functions with export fields of the type exid h
    I found in the rfccal.c the following section:
            if (*exid == 'h')  continue;
                   I don't know how handle type 'h' (internal table)
                   with RFC API. Therefore ignore it.
    Example function : SWNC_GET_WORKLOAD_STATISTIC
    In the rfcsdk docs I can't find a thing how you should handle such an export field.
    Any solution for this ?

    hi hans,
    sorry i shouldn't have answered your question. to me RFC is tooo strange. I had a quick look at the FM, searched DDIC for something like exid and had a look at the WSDL of the webservice WSDL of that FM. nothing seemed very complicated to me in terms of a webservice call to it (apart from the semantically...uhm...questionable interface; MEM_OBJS_FR_YOUN anybody?) but I really have no idea of the inner workings of RFC.
    sorry again. hope you get it solved here.

  • A trouble with "LIKE" in a select statement

    Hi!
    I'm having trouble with "LIKE" in a select statement...
    With Access I can make the following and everything works well:
    SELECT name, birthday
    FROM client
    WHERE birthday LIKE '*/02/*';
    but if try to do it in my application (it uses Access), it doesn't work - I just can't understand that!!!
    In my application the "month" is always the currently month taken from the "System". Look what I'm doing...
    String query1 = "SELECT name, birthday " +
              "FROM client " +
              "WHERE birthday " +
              "LIKE '*/" +
              pMonth +
              "/*' " +
              "ORDER BY birthday ASC ";
    ResultSet rs = statement1.executeQuery(consulta1);
    boolean moreRecords = rs.next();
    The variable "moreRecords" is always "false", the query returns nothing although the table "client" has records that attend the query.
    Please, anyone can help me?! It's a little bit urgent.
    Thanks,
    Katia.

    Hi Katia,
    I'll bet the problem lies with the characters you're using to escape the LIKE clause. You're using the ones that Access likes to see, but that's not necessarily what's built into the JDBC-ODBC driver class.
    You can find out what the correct escape wildcard characters are from the java.sql.DatabaseMetaData.getSearchStringEscape() method. It'll tell you what to use in the LIKE clause.
    I'm not 100% sure about your code. It doesn't use query1 anywhere. I'd do this:
    String query = "SELECT name, birthday FROM client WHERE birthday LIKE ? ORDER BY birthday ASC";
    PreparedStatement statement = connection.createStatement(query);
    String escape = connection.getMetaData().getSearchStringEscape();
    String test = escape + '/' + pMonth + '/' + escape;
    statement.setString(1, test);
    ResultSet rs = statement.executeQuery();
    while (rs.hasNext())
    // load your data into a data structure to pass back.
    rs.close();
    statement.close();Let me know if that works. - MOD

  • Using Oracle Text with CLOB field containing multiple languages

    I'm using Oracle 10g (NLS_CHARACTERSET is set to. AL32UTF8) and have a table with a CLOB field which is storing text written in either English and/or Simplified Chinese.
    The following index has been created on this field:
    CREATE INDEX text_index
    ON text_table(text_field)
    INDEXTYPE IS CTXSYS.CONTEXT
    PARAMETERS('FILTER CTXSYS.INSO_FILTER');
    I'm having issues in returning text which matches the Chinese text using the CONTAINS operator. For some reason the following query is returning rows which do not contain any Chinese text:
    SELECT *
    FROM text_table
    WHERE contains(text_field,'炫%') > 1;
    A newsgroup user advised me to produce an explain plan using ctx_query.explain.
    I created 2 explain plans, one which was searching the index for 'A%' and the other searching for the Simplified Chinese character '炫%'. The results for the first test were as expected whereby the values contained within the OBJECT_NAME field all began with the letter 'A'.
    The second test however produced somewhat unexpected results. The OBJECT_NAME field this time contained various words, both English and Simplified Chinese. I could be wrong but it appeared to store every individual word in the CLOB field. Both tests produced different EQUIVALENCE rows, the first test was:
    OPTIONS = Null
    OBJECT_NAME = A%
    Whereas the second test produced:
    OPTIONS = (?)
    OBJECT_NAME = %
    Am I right in thinking the Simplified Chinese character is for some reason being converted to a '?' character?
    Any help on this will be much appreciated.

    As you're not specifying a lexer to use, it will use the BASIC_LEXER, designed for space-separated European-type languages. This won't work effectively with Chinese.
    If you know which documents are Chinese and which are English, you can write this into a LANGUAGE column and use the MULTI_LEXER - this will allow you to specify BASIC_LEXER for the English texts, and CHINESE_LEXER or CHINESE_VGRAM_LEXER for the Chinese texts.
    If you don't know the language, you must use either WORLD_LEXER (10g) or AUTO_LEXER (11g). These lexers will automatically determine the language of the documents and index them appropriately. In general. MULTI_LEXER will be faster and more accurate than either of the automatic alternatives.
    When querying for Chinese characters you need to be very careful with your NLS_LANG settings. You need to make sure that the character set defined in NLS_LANG is the same as the character set from which you've pasted (or typed) the chinese characters.
    The "?" in output usually just means "I don't know how to translate this character into your output character set". Sometimes it may appear as a reversed question mark.

  • BC4J: Problem deleting a row with clob field

    When I try to delete a row that contains a CLOB field.
    When I call the function removeCurrentRow in my View object I get this exception:
    JBO-25014: Another user has changed the row with primary key oracle.jbo.Key
    Could anyone tell me why I can't remove the row? Thanks in advance!

  • Problem with Hiding fields of selection screen which is called as subscreen

    Hello All,
    I have problem while hiding the selection screen which is called as subscreen.
    Flow of my logic:
    Selection-screen with one field and three buttons CREATE,DISPLAY and CHANGE in application toolbar.
    user enter some value in field and either he press change or dispaly
    When change i need to call selection screen when it is in dispaly i need to stop calling this selection screen.
    Upto my knowledge we can't stop calling selection screen in display mode so there is only one possibility is hiding the fields when it is in display mode.
    How can i hide the fields and where i need to hide fields?
    Please post some codes.
    Regards,
    Lisa

    you can refer the sample code which i mentioned in your previous post. that will solve the problem.

  • Data moving between Oracle 10g with CLOB fields

    Hi all,
    I have a trouble in migrate data between Oracle 10g with different platform. The worst thing is that I don't have a DBA account for the DB importing data. I think I can't use IMP or IMPDP in this way. So I seek help from sql developer, but it seems having another problem with CLOB data moving.
    Re: EA2 : SQL Developer 1.5 : export data CLOB columns
    in the thread, I found someone wrote this:
    - SQL Developer v1.5 EA2 - exports first 4000 chars (which is anyway too small for me, because my CLOBs are larger - if they were smaller, I would have made them VARCHAR2s instead!).
    I would like to ask:
    1, What SQL Developer v1.5 EA2 is? Is it the Data Modeling one?
    2, How to export table data with CLOB with SQL Developer v1.5 EA2? Since 4000 chars is enough for me to use.
    OR any other method to export CLOB but not IMP / IMPDP ?
    Now I am using the spool of sqlplus to export CLOB.
    Many thanks,

    1. The EAs are Early Adapters, betas, so you should expect the same behaviour from the latest 1.5.4 production release.
    2. Exports can be done with the Database Export tool, through the table's context menu in the navigator tree or the result grid's context menu.
    Have fun,
    K.

  • How to get around Ampersand in text field in Select statement

    I have an SQL statement I am trying to run in SQL*Plus. In one of my subqueries, I have a select statment in which some of the fields I am trying to pull have an "&" within the text. So, when I try and run the query it returns "Enter value for 35:". I've even tried wildcard characters and it is still not working. If anyone could help me with this, I would appreciate it. Here is a sample of my statement (the subquery is at the bottom of the statement):
    select real_case.file_dt, real_case.dscr, pty_cd, first_name, last_name, addr_line1, addr_line2, city, st_cd, zip_cd
    from real_case, pty, idnt, ptyaddr s1, addr
    where real_case.case_id = pty.case_id
    AND pty.idnt_id = idnt.idnt_id
    AND pty.case_id = s1.case_id
    and pty.seq = s1.seq
    and s1.addr_id = addr.addr_id
    and (real_case.file_dt >= '01-NOV-06'
    and real_case.file_dt <= current_date)
    and (real_case.dscr like '79D01-%'
    or real_case.dscr like '79C01-%'
    or real_case.dscr like '79D02-%')
    and (pty.pty_cd like 'DFNDT')
    and (s1.ins_dttm in
    (select max(s2.ins_dttm) from ptyaddr s2
    where s2.case_id = s1.case_id
    and s2.seq = s1.seq))
    and (real_case.case_id in
    (select case_id from ptychrg
    where ptychrg.actn_cd IN ('35-41-5-1&35-48-4-1')));Thanks,

  • Dynamic fields in select statement

    Hi all,
       In selection screen we are having period as select option.The values for period are 01 to 16. Based on
          the values entered in selection screen for period we need to select HSLXX from FAGLFLEXT.
       For example if we enter 01 to 03 in selection screen then we need to select HSL01 HSL02 HSL03
           from FAGLFLEXT.
      Like this we need to select fields dynamically in select statement. Can any one tell me how to restrict fields dynamically.
    Regards,
    Swetha

    hi Swetha,
    the  third select statemnet will work for  you..
    try this..
    _Dynamic where clause in select query.._
    * With a variable, result: AND rbusa = '5145'
    concatenate 'AND rbusa = '  ''''  i_tab-zgsber  ''''
    append where_clause to where_tab.
    * Select
    select * from zcostfreq
         where (where_tab).
    endselect.
    _Using a dynamic table name_
    parameters:
    p_tab type tabname.
    start-of-selection.
      select count(*) from (p_tab) into l_count.
    _Dynamic retrieval and writing of data_
    FIELD-SYMBOLS:
      <row>         TYPE ANY,
      <component>   TYPE ANY.
    PARAMETERS:
    p_tab TYPE tabname.
    CREATE DATA dataref TYPE (p_tab).
    * The variable dataref cannot be accessed directly, so a field symbol is
    * used
      ASSIGN dataref->* TO <row>.
      SELECT *
        FROM (p_tab) UP TO 10 ROWS
        INTO <row>.
        NEW-LINE.
        DO.
    *     Write all the fields in the record
          ASSIGN COMPONENT sy-index
            OF STRUCTURE <row>
            TO <component>.
          IF sy-subrc <> 0.
            EXIT.
          ENDIF.
          WRITE <component>.
        ENDDO.
      ENDSELECT.

  • Determine Length of Field in Select Statement

    Hi Experts!
    My officemate has this little problem regarding selection of data based on a certain condition...
    Here is the situation:
    For Example...
    In table KNA1....
    KUNNR       NAME1         Length of Data in Name1
    000001        AA                2
    000002        AB                2
    000003        ABCD           4
    000004        ABCDE         5
    She only wants to get the records that has the length of 2 in KNA1-NAME1,
    i.e., 'AA' and 'AB' without having to put it in the internal table then make a loop and update the table using the strlen() condition....
    Experts, is this possible? Knowing the length of the data in the select statement? She wants this alternative because it is faster rather than having to loop in internal tables and check if this data has the length of 2 or 3 or 4 and so on....
    Can you please help me out with this one? Thanks in advance!
    <b></b>

    Hi
    If the lenghtn is 6 characters and if you want to fetch only first 2 characters.
    you can use offset
    fetch data from internal table and take variable
    v_var1 = itab-name1+0(2).
    you get only first 2 characters....
    if you want last 2 characters itab-name1+4(2).
    Thanks

  • Dynamic field in Select Statement

    I am able to create a dynamic statement to insert into the where clause of my sql, but I am unable to dynamically create a select statement. Oracle Reports produces the following error:
    REP-0499: Column " selected by the query is incompatible with report definition.
    Here is an example of my select:
    Select
    &dynamic_field
    from
    any_table
    Any help is appreciated.

    I figured it out. Thanks
