Groupwise 6.5, lost administratorprivileges

We are currently running Groupwise 6.5 on a netware 6.0 server. I have not had to create new user mailboxes in quite some time. We have also had an issue with backups over the last 6 weeks. I attempted to create a new mailbox, and could not add or delete new users. All other email functionality is working. It appears that my administrative privileges are corrupted. This has been an unstable system for a while, the patches are not updated and we are constantly experiencing spam and space disk issues.
My question is how could this issue have occurred-none of the administrators (2 accounts that were set up explicitly) removed the administrator rights. What trouble shooting steps can I take, How can I regain administrator privileges?

Begs the question: Why would it matter? When someone had administrator rights, it seems like nobody used them?
Do you have a separate Backup user? Or was that tied to Admin as well? Does it seem as if ALL admin equivalents are broken? Because that speaks to some corruption in the tree. This would mean a call to Novell is required.
There are tools like MakeSU - NDS-eDirectory ToolKit - DreamLAN.com but this assume the issue in not some sort of corruption. Its unlikely to make things worse.
Any idea what happened 6 weeks ago?

  • Groupwise 8.0.2 error and crashing

    Hello all,
    I'm having a problem with groupwise and I can use some advice. A user of mine is having an issue when she composes new mail she switches from plain text view to HTML view and GW either crashes or it freezes, and a error message appears. I thought it was a local profile issue so I re created the profile and it still didnt fix it. In addition I upgraded from GW 7 to GW 8 and the issue still remains. This is an XP machine. I only happnes on thius machine, I tried another XP machine right next to it and it switched views from plain to HTML no problem. Im not sure if the user tinkered with some settings or what.

    these are the messgaes I get, I tried deleting the contents of the temp folder and I still get the error. The contents of the temp folder keeps re creating itself when I delete the contents of it.

    For some reason that is grayed out. Im logged on as my administrator account and its still grayed out. My next step was to be logged as Administrator as in with the username administrator. I actually got it working now thanks for your help guys. I did the reinstall and I uninstalled additional browsers like chrome, safari and firefox. I will add them back when Im with the user after she sees it working again. I also disabled all the toolbars and add on (like snag it) in IE.
    I'm so glad I came to this forums for ideas. Waiting for the guy that supports groupwise for my hospital would have been a lost cause. I'll be coming here for my groupwise issues from now on.....THANKS AGAIN GUYS!!!!!

  • Recover from migrated Groupwise Server

    My company migrated from Groupwise and Netware to Exchange and windows about 2 years ago. We have since discarded the equipment it was on. So now I need to recover some email from 3 years ago. I tried to rebuild another server using Netware 6 but the server had multiple problems especially concerning connectively issues with my Microsoft network. Anyway i was able to install Netware 6.5 (never used upgrade) and Groupwise 6.0, (which was in use before migrating). So I have Groupwise 6, Netware 6.5, a backup copy of my previous Post office directory, and domain. Have not found a backup of NDS. I do have a copy of the previous SYS directory, not sure what files I could use to graft a previous nds to my newly installed system.
    I am lost on to proceed. I want to be able to restore past Groupwise stored email and put them into something I could use should such a situation occur in the future. Can anybody help?

    Just copy the PO backup to the NW server and set the PO security to low. You
    don't need to load an edir backup, just the PO backup should be fine.
    Graft the GW objects following the doc
    (http://www.novell.com/documentation/...k.html#adpbggx),
    configure the POA object with the server ip address, after you finished
    with the configuration rebuild the PO database and load the POA afterwards.
    You should be able to connect using a GW account.

  • GroupWise recovery from cached mailbox?

    GroupWise recovery challenge
    - GroupWise 8.02 (NetWare 6.5sp8)
    - Separate NSS Mail Pool with one Volume for Groupwise (single POA/MTA)
    - Mailarchives are on seperate DATA volume
    - Backup : dont ask
    Situation: As a result of a hardware failure NSS MAIL pool and volume was lost
    We had to edit the NSS startup to avoid it trying to load, after that the server runs again, without GW.
    It was decided to move from GW8 NetWare to GW2012 on OES 11 in the proces (new tree)
    Created a brand new GW2012 sp2 systeem
    Modified all the FID's from the users in this system to the values of the old system
    copied the old gwarchives to the new server
    We were able to open these archives from the users mailbox (to discover that it was a year old, as it was archived per year.)
    Now: Under a certain USER thre were about more than 100 shared subfolders with specific customer info. It seems to be lost.
    This user now presents empty non shared folders from its archive.
    Now the question. On one laptop all this shared folders are still present with al its contents in a locally cached mailbox. Not as the folder owner but a a user. So everything is still there.
    Is the a way to get this info back into the new GW system ?

    Yeah, sort of. If you're careful.
    While in the caching mailbox, move all the items that were shared with
    the user into other, personal folders of the user. Now archive all that,
    connect to the live system, and unarchive again. Then share the stuff again.
    IIRC that should work. Make a backup of the whole caching mailbox with
    the data before you start.

  • Grafting GroupWise objects to new tree,new Domain and new PO

    Hello,
    I have a fully functional GroupWise system that is running fine but running low on space. I built another server for testing purposes before I decided to build a new one for production. The test server has a copy of my GroupWise production server located in a folder called bak. I built and created a test GroupWise system that has no users.
    Here is my question, if I were to use the Grafting utility, connect to the bak GroupWise system, change my paths to match the backup location and proceed to graft the objects to the new test PO and Domain, will I lose the original objects (like a cut and paste) or will it graft the objects (like a copy and paste) with out nothing lost from the original location?

    Well... if this is going to be just for testing you could unload the agents on your test system, use NwAdmin (or ConsoleOne without Groupwise snapins) to remove/cleanup all the Groupwise objects in your test tree and graft the new/copied system in.
    That should be fine, as long as you remove all previous Groupwise objects in the test system.
    It won't work to graft a new system in where an existing system is still in place.
    After regrafting change the paths in your eDirectory objects, the listed ip's... etc, and reconfigure the agents with the correct home parameters. Then you can launch them to see if it all works.
    For a test this should work and it will give you a good indication of how long it should take you with the real migration.
    In the real scenario always start with a clean tree where possible.

  • Groupwise SNMP TRAPS To Omnibus

    We are currently using Groupwise 7 however I am not the administrator.
    I am more in charge of monitoring. We are looking to monitor Groupwise for issues and I have been looking to see if and how Groupwise can send SNMP TRAPS. I can not seem to find any information on this and when I called Novell they seemed lost.
    Could anyone tell me....
    Is Groupwise able to send SNMP TRAPs and if so where is this configured?

    Did you look at the MIBs included? I haven't for a long many years.
    I think they are mostly get/setters not traps though

  • Not receiving or sending Groupwise email

    Like a dummy, I got in and started pushing buttons on my 8230.  Now I'm not able to send or receive my Groupwise email.  My personal yahoo email comes through just fine, but somewhere I've messed up something.
    Any ideas?

    The setting Options > Advanced > Message Services sets your default email account to use for any email to send.
    The setting in Messages > Options > Email Reconciliation > Emai Settings will allow you to set the options for both your [desktop] and yahoo email. It can be set to either, but why not leave it set at [desktop], 
    and then do the battery pull reboot. It sounds like you just might have lost your connection to your server, which a reboot can reset.

  • Groupwise sync shared calendars

    We are on Groupwise 7.0.3 .  Is there a way to sync shared calendars to the BlackBerry Curve 8330? My calendar syncs just find I'm trying to figure out a way to sync with my shared calendars.

  • Groupwise alarms show up as 57456854 min on Blackberry 8330.

    We are running BES for GroupWise 4.1.6.13 and Groupwise client 7.03 on all PC's.......seems that when an "alarm" in Groupwise calendar is set to hour, it will not sync correctly across to the Blackberry 8330 model......Instead, it shows as "57456854 min" on the Blackberry ??  Are there any fixes out there that will cure this issue? 
     That number can manually be changed on BBerry, but isn't practical to do that with several entries.  If anyone has any suggestions or know of a fix, please let me know....greatly appreciate it!

    Hi,
    All your new mail shows up in the queue, They also show up in the globes icon with your email address under them.
    When you delete, reply etc form the main queue, it is reflected in the "globe" email accounts as well. You do have a few options like creating drafts, saving emails confirmations. Etc.
    Basically all messages SMS mms and email along with missed calls will show up in the main message queue.
    Maybe I'm not explaining it right I don't know what the Verizon guy was talking about because there are no "filters"
    setup. I have four email accounts, hence for of the email globes, I took them and put them into a folder that effectively clears the clutter. If you look at the design concept, it makes sense that all correspondence would go to one place, rather than hunting for emails in seperate icons.

  • POP3 receive isses on Groupwise 8 on Netware

    Just recently, our mail server has stopped receiving email via POP on groupwise 8. I have looked through the logs, and I just don't see any indication as to why it stops. If I reboot the email server, it works for half an hour, and then it stops, and look through the logs, on gwia, and its like it just falls off the face of thge earth, and gives no indication as to why...any help on where to start would be much appreciated.

    The GWIA logs will show POP and IMAP connections. Take a look and see if you have a large number of POP requests. You can enable more detailed GWIA logging to see individual POP requests.This is the first thing we always check, and we see no unsual traffic, we have been pounded before, so we know what that looks like, in this case, there seems to be no unsual traffic, I even did a wireshark to see if I could see any unsual POP2/MAIL traffic at all...I see none...
    Is the server showing high CPU load or lost of disk I/O before POP fails? Are the number of POP threads in use maxed out?
    CPU Usage is running between 25-35% on the server, it is QUAD core, it is being balaced between all cored, How to I know if the threads are being maxed, would this cause POP3 to toally shut down?
    If you have GW Monitor set up you can set alarms for the number of POP threads ( and other thread pools ) to know when the system is running into trouble, or perhaps before it falls over.
    I have access to the monitor, how do I set this up?
    We have had issues where a single provider / hacker / client will pound the living ____ out of POP or IMAP - so looking for a lot of activity from a given range of IP addresses is useful.
    Have looked for mail bombing of the server, to date I do not see anything that indicates this via GUI OR Wireshark, usually when we are being mail bombed, I see massive tuenover of emails for a single clienbt or many, hammering the server...I only see regular traffic, nothing YET to indicate an attack.
    Also why is POP enabled? IMAP is more functional, supports folders, and perhaps doesn't kill the server?
    We have some Outlook clients, and we have always used pop with no problems, we could go IMAP, but that would be about a 600-900 client switch over...it worked for many years up until today....I would rather figure out what the real problem is, instead of possibly exchanging one problem for a
    You have GroupWise 8.0.what? What SP has been applied? If you have not patched in recent history, start there. If you are running 8.0.1 or 8.0.2 ( with no patches ) etc, then you are asking for troubles.
    Yes, this is somewhat our failing I guess, but we went with a, if it aint broke don't fix it approch, the problem was encountered as of recent....muchg work ahead of us if we are to patch and upgrade as our email is an essential service.
    Are there any other symptoms we should know about? Changes in recent history?
    The only symptoms we can see, is that after 1.5 hours. to an hour it droppes off the face of the earth, do you think we need more threads?

    2:we transferred the order into r/3 system.and we define the free goods in r/3.the
    policy is that we give customer 1 dr free of charge when they buy 10 dr.
    3:when this order has been transferred into r/3,the system automatically add a line
    with 1 DR free of charge.
    4:in normal,in item 2,it will contain a condition type 'PR01' and 'NA00'.the 'PR01'
    is the price and the 'NA00' is the 100% discount.
    Nut Now the condition type 'PR01' and 'NA00' in item 2 lost.

    Adobe cloud has lost connection with the server, can't get adobe cloud to work so I can re-install photoshop to fix a corrupted DLL file.

    *Adding new items/removing orphans*
    Try iTunes Folder Watch or iTunes Library Updater. Folder Watch is much faster on the adding files front, can be set to run in the background and includes a useful exclusion feature, however it’s slow at removing orphans. iTLU is better for this although doing it manually after looking at a list of proposed removals generated by Folder Watch is probably faster still. iTLU can also be set to update iTunes when you've used 3rd party tools to change tag info.
    You may need to amend the list of file types these programs look for. My list includes:
    .mp3 .mp4 .m4a .m4b .m4p .m4v .mov .wav .aif .mid .ipa .ipg .ite .itlp .m4r .pdf
    Note the last 6 types may not be recognised as already being in the library so should either be omitted from the search or you can add (at least for Folder Watch) individual exclusions for files you know are already in your library.

  • Mobile Me CONTACTS not coming down to iOS4 and lost visual voicemail

    I updated my 3GS to iOS4 and everything seems to be working, howver my contacts haen't repopulated the phone form Mobile Me. they are all still there on Mobile Me, but when I go to contacts on the iPhone, there are none and unlike previously, opening contacts on the phone does not force a sync (no spinning clock-wheel)...
    I have tried turning off the Mobile Me setting on the iphone and then restarting it, but still no contacts...
    I also lost my visual voicemail.... when I go to voicemail, it wants me to physically dial up voicemail...
    Any ideas here?

    Huh? A "bug" would affect all devices using the OS. I have no idea what you are talking about as push worked just fine here after allowing a little time for my phone to be re-provisioned by the network. That took longer than normal due, I'm sure, to the large number of folks trying to do the same thing I was. And we've all hear AT&T whine that we evil iPhone users are breaking their network.

    It sounds like the cellular data will not activate for some reason on the iPad.
    I found this article that will help you resolve this issue here, named iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular Models): Troubleshooting a cellular data connection, found here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4249
    Check for a carrier settings update.
    Update your iPad.
    Toggle the Cellular Data setting off and on under Settings > Cellular Data.
    Restart your iPad.
    Tap Settings > General > About. Locate the Carrier entry and make sure that your carrier is correct.
    If your SIM card has SIM PIN enabled, try turning it off: Tap Settings > Cellular Data > SIM PIN.
    Make sure you're in an area of good coverage. If the cellular data connection works in another area, contact your carrier to report the original affected area.
    Reset network settings: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
    Restore the iPad as new.
    If none of the above steps resolves the issue, make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store, contact your carrier, or contact AppleCare to troubleshoot further.
    I know you may have done one or two of the steps here, so you can skip those.
