Gtk2fontsel pkgbuild. Font selection preview app.

This is acctually standard gtk2 widget for font selection/preview compiled alone.
gtk2fontsel PKGBUILD
pkgname=gtk2fontsel
pkgver=0.1
pkgrel=1
pkgdesc="Font selection and preview tool"
url="http://gtk2fontsel.sourceforge.net/"
depends=('gtk2')
source=(http://dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/gtk2fontsel/$pkgname-$pkgver.tar.gz)
md5sums=('f344018b19b6a818795a4c702770cd9d')
build() {
cd $startdir/src/$pkgname-$pkgver
./configure --prefix=/usr
make || return 1
make prefix=$startdir/pkg/usr install

Well, let's say this is solved, though not properly.
If you encounter a "no show" problem like mine, it may be an issue involving theme multi-compatibility with gtk2, 3, metacity and the like.
Try switching to another theme to see if your system better "support" it, or use separate themes for gtk2 and gkt3.

  • Preview App using odd fonts...

    Hi,
    When I view some PDFs (notably ones generated by websites - like a Skype Invoice) Preview App displays some of the text using a horible font that looks a bit like 'Impact' - Opening the same PDFs in Acrobat shows them as they should look - with a nice font like Arial or Helvetica or some such.
    Any clues as to how to fix this?
    See my example screenshots here:
    http://www.itsnotallwork.com/dl/Picture 4.png (Preview)
    http://www.itsnotallwork.com/dl/Picture 5.png (Acrobat)
    Pdf is here:

    Thanks,
    Guy

    Not sure how to fix the issue - something to do with the font cache I would think - but your post needs a tiny bit of help. when posting a URL with a space in the name you either need to enclose the whole thing in brackets or use html tags (or if it is just a single one replace the space with %20, like so:
    <http://www.itsnotallwork.com/dl/Picture 4.png>
    <href a="://www.itsnotallwork.com/dl/Picture 4.png">http://www.itsnotallwork.com/dl/Picture 4.png</href>

  • Embedded fonts not displaying in Preview.app

    I occasionally get PDF documents with embedded fonts in them. They look fine in Adobe Acrobat, but opening them in Preview.app makes the system fall back to some ugly default font.
    I keep a copy of Acrobat reader laying around pretty much only so I can open these files. This behavior is consistent across computers and has been occurring on OSX for ages. I can provide an example PDF is anyone who knows about these things would like to take a look at it.
    Any thoughts on the matter?

  • Encore CS3 Font Selection - No Instant Preview disappointment

    It is disappointing that I need to open a different application rather make my font selection in Encore.
    I am supprised Encore CS3 does not have an excellant font preview.
    Where are the Architects and Product Owners??? Is it pulling too much functionality into Encore? Are you expecting most edits to be done in Photoshop, so why bother?
    Microsoft Word 2007 gives instant feedback as I scroll through my fonts. This is what I would really like to see with both Encore and Photoshop.
    And where is the autosave functionality found in Premiere. Two crashes due to msvcr80.dll has taught me to hit ctrl-s frequently.
    Steven Bland

    Steven,
    In Encore, make sure the Menu Viewer and the Character panel are visible in their frames.
    Use the text tool to highlight the text you want format with a new/different font.
    Click in the font name drop down list (not the drop down arrow) and then use the arrow keys to move up or down the font list. As you do so, the highlighted text will change to show you how it will look as each font is selected by the arrow keys.

  • Preview App Fonts

    I'm editing photos at the Preview App and adding texts. I was able to change the font size manually (As in type the size i want) until yesterday. I must have pressed something but i can't figure out how to undo it! Is there anyone who knows? I can still do this in Pages etc. but I must have done something in Preview

    I was running Mavericks for my screenshot and chose the font/size in the edit toolbar of Preview.
    Which OS version are you on? And how are you getting that font window to pop up? That is usually a pop up within a word processing app, not Preview.
    The Yosemite version of Preview has this toolbar:

  • Preview.app can't constrain selections/cropping to a square anymore?

    Apparently Preview.app can't constrain selections/cropping to a square anymore (with the shift key). Now I have to open Photoshop to do something I used to do in Preview? Why would they take this out?
    Say it isn't so!

    I am missing this feature too, or maybe there is a shortcut I don't know of?
    I am used to draw a smaller rectangle with the same proportions by starting from a corner point and then move that rectangle around to get the best result. When everything is fine pressing cmd+K crops the image.
    This isn't possible now, but someone my have a good advice?

  • How do I change the annotation font in Preview?

    So I'm not fond of the default font used in the annotation sticky in the new Preview.app.  However, the Font menu seems to be disconnected from the sticky - in that if I select the Font inspector, it unselects the sticky so the changes do not apply to it.
    How can I change this?  And while I'm at it, any way to get the timestamping feature turned back on for the sticky note? It helps to see when I wrote the sticky...  Thanks.

    Delete the font, wont change size but the tpye.  https://discussions.apple.com/message/20064773#20064773

  • Changing Default Annotations Font in Preview

    Is there a way to change the default annotations font in the preview app for Mountain Lion?  I'm using the annotations feature to take notes on class assignments, however, I don't like the default "noteworthy" font.  I've tried to change it by selecting Tools > Show fonts.  However, when I highlight the annotations I've taken, then try to select a different font, it only closes my annotations note without changing the font.
    Along the same lines, is it possible to have rich text formatting while using preview's annotations feature?
    Thanks in advance,
    AH

    Hello Experts,
    Pleasure to meet you all through this forum. This is my first reply to a question.
    Mr. Chuan Lee, try the following and let me know if it works to your issue.
    1. Choose the document that you would print and choose the PLD icon.
    2.Click the field on the Print Layout Design on the left and then check the Font and Size in the Format Tab of the Properties window on to your right below field Index window.
    3. If it is differing from what you are expecting, change and font and size and save the changes.
    4. Check the box " Block Overall Font Change" below the Font&Size property fields.
    5. Save your preferences.
    I think it should work.
    Experts correct me if i am wrong. Appreciate me if I am right.
    All the best Chuan lee.

  • Preview app not showing thumbnails view scrambled

    Hi,
    since i updated to maverick last week i got an issue with the Mac Preview app, it opens the documents ok, but when opening several files at the time, the thumbnails are all scrambled and not showing the miniature of the selected file.
    if i click on the thmbnails area and navigate with the keyboard's arrows it allows me to go through the open files, all files open ok but the thumbnails is the only part that is having this issue.
    i have deleted the com.apple.Preview from ~\Library\Containers but still having the issue.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
    Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
    While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
    Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
    After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
    *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
    Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
    Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
    Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
    After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Can't Open iBookm Preview, App Store and other apps after upgrading to mavericks. PELASE HELP!

    Well,
    I Can't open several apps, as for example, iBooks, Preview, or App Store!
    I can't read pdf's or open books, cant's see images or anything that uses preview app.
    Can't go to App Store to look for any available update.
    Please help!

    First attempt a clean install...
    http://mashable.com/2013/10/23/clean-install-os-x-mavericks/
    If this doesn't work, which it didn't in my case, then download
    Pacifist.
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
    You will need a copy of the Maverick installer.
    Use Pacificst to " Open Apple Intallers"
    The go to Contents of Mavericks->Contents of EssentialSystemSoftware->Contents of Essentials.pkg->Applications
    Then Click on the programs that don't seem to be working and insall. This helped me update certain applications that weren't working such as App Store, Font Book, Mail, and any others.

  • Preview app: Add text annotation with left justify?

    I'm using the Preview app to insert text into some PDF files. I can use the Annotate feature to create a text box in the area I need it and adjust the font, color, size, etc. The only thing I can't seem to do is set the justification to Left Justify. It will show text as center justify - anyone know how to change this?

    I can find out what the defaults are with:
    defaults read com.apple.preview
    There are many properties but a TextAligment property is not one of them.
    I tried below but they do not work.
    defaults write com.apple.preview NSTextAlignment 0
    defaults write com.apple.preview PVAnnotationTextAlignment 0
    NB: 0 means left alignment
    Any idea?
    Maybe Apple has to create an text alignment feature for the GUI or provide the property that we can set it from Terminal.

  • My App Store App, Preview App and a few others won't open!

    Recently, my App Store App, the Preview App, Calendar App, Pages & Numbers Apps, to name a few just wont open and run.  Even the Mail App, albeit opens, but wont run properly.
    Ive remember seeing someone with the same problem, but im unable to findthe link again for how it was resolved.
    Ultimately i could reinstall Snow Leopard again from my current copy of Mavericks (As i believe is the problem), however it would mean a complete fresh copy.  If i did this, is it straight forward to copy all my info on Time machine back over onto the new system?  Or more importantly, will Time Machine overwright & copy the corrupt copies that currently reside on my Mac?
    Any advice or options to this problem would be greatly appreciated.
    Thx

    Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
    SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
    from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
    Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • Printing a zoomed view in Preview.app

    How do you print a zoomed in view from Preview. In Adobe there is a choice to print current view. I cant figure out how in Preview.app.

    You can select an area, crop to it and print that. If you do not want save the crop, do not save the file after you print.

  • Problem displaying characters from pdf file in Preview.app

    Hi,
    I hope someone can help with this problem.
    I have some issues with the display of pdf files on OSX. The problems are with ligatures like 'fl' which Preview.app displays incorrectly as 'oeu'. There are other symbols which Preview also displays incorrectly.
    This problem is not affected by cleaning the font cache and as far as I can tell all the fonts are present and correct. I am guessing the problem has something to do with Preview finding a different version of the Times or TimesRoman font than Adobe Reader uses, and so it gets the wrong symbol, but I'm not sure.
    How can I ensure that Preview uses the same fonts as Adobe Reader? and how can I get Preview to render my pdf's correctly?
    Here is a sample of the problem with Preview.app (4.1):
    !http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3456/33599073294296beb1a8m.jpg!
    and with Adobe Reader (9.0.0)- correctly rendered:
    !http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3448/335990717548aa12e576m.jpg!

    My computer automatically open PDF inside the Safari
    window, but I wish it would go back to opening it
    externally via Adobe. (maybe we should trade
    computers:-)
    Anyway, we have the same question.
    How do we control whether PDF launches internal to
    Safari, or external in Adobe?
    This is what I would like to as well. I often have a lot of pdf files I need to open and then save to my hard drive. When I click on a pdf file on a website Safari opens it and then I need to right click in the document to open it with Adobe. How can I get it to open in Adobe the first time without having to right click after it opens in Safari?
    Thanks!

  • Font in Preview blurry

    In Yosemite, when I look at a pdf file in Preview the fonts are blurry compared to Mavericks. The upper image below is a screenshot using Mavericks, and the lower one is from Yosemite.
    I tried fiddling with LCD font smoothing in preferences, and restarting, but nothing changed. Anyone else having this issue, and maybe found a solutions?

    Dear Stuart Field and concerned Apple staff,
    Apparently it is because the anti-aliasing algorithm used by Preview.app in Yosemite is incorrect.
    The same problem has been raised and discussed recently on other sites including Reddit and StackExchange.
    A comparison of the same PDF viewed in 10.9 and 10.10 can be seen below (images taken from this post).
    10.9 (correct and beautiful with colorful shadow):
    and on 10.10 (weird, grey shadow):
    Presumably this bug is coming from the incorrect adjustment for Mac family with retina display.
    Note that this bug does NOT happen in Safari, which is quite amusing.
    Sincerely,
    Leo
