Guarantees made - Contingent Liabilities

Hi All,
Payment guarantees made created as special gl indicator, this entry should not have any financial impact. It's just a guarantee given (a contingent liability). Therefore, by booking this as a special GL transaction, will the entry reflect in the balance sheet as customer receivables or not be updated in the general ledger? We should not be updating the GL for this transaction...
I am still not sure where in the Balance Sheet these guarantees given/received will appear. In the Balance Sheet in SAP (F.10), will this be shown as a note? What is the T-code or procedure to see the notes to financial statements.
Thanks
Sridevi

Hi,
Contingent liabilities will be shown under a seperate head in FS. You call name it as supplement. Refer to standart FSV  INT. In INT 900000 is supplement which includes contingent liabilities and it is not added to asset or liability.
For more clarity run FSV INT for chart of account INT for company code 1000 for year 2000.
Come back to me in case you need any other clarification.
Assign suitable points.

Mayank

  • LC Payments and Letter of Guarantee

    Dear Consultants,
    a)Can anyone please tell me the workaround about how to handle Letter of credit payments in AP by maintaining details like LC no., LC amount, LC due date etc., and the accounting impact for the same.
    b)Is there is any workaround in AR or through
    other modules for maintaining guarantee details issued to outside parties?
    Expecting an early feed back.
    Thanks and Regards
    Priya

    Hi,
    1.There is no special feature in AP for handling of LC. LC payments can be treated the same way like post dated payments. Any additional information can, however, be captured in attachments/DFF.
    2.It is possible to use AR for accounting of the guarantees given by us to the suppliers (or customers)
    Normally the guarantees issued are not accounted in books. In India, they are only shown as contingent liabilities. But, as Oracle Apps generates acounting entries for guarantees also, we can nullify its effect
    by assigning asset/liability accounts to both the 'receivable account' and the 'revenue account'when we define transaction types.
    We can have separate accounts mapped to guarantees received and guarantees issued.
    To cancel/reverse guarantees issued on its expiry...
    a. Define a receivable activity of type adjustment
    for eg 'Guarantee expiry'
    b. Attach the account that has been assigned to 'revenue account' in the transaction type
    to 'GL account' in receivable activity.
    c. When the guarantee expires, nullify it by doing an adjustment in the transactions window (by choosing 'Guarantee expiry' receivable activity).
    Alternatively, you can nullify a guarantee by raising a credit memo against it.
    Note: It is not possible to adjust guarantees issued against purchase invoices as in the case of guarantees received.

  • Special General Ledger Transaction -Guarantee

    Dear Experts,
    The Vendor should be debited when guarantee  made to vendors but it  has been credited while using transaction code ' F-55'
    which is the t-code for statistical posting. The same problem is occurred when guarantee received from customers as customer account is debited instead of credited while using T -Code F-38. Please look into this let me know appropriate.

    Hi,
    Whenever you made an agreement with a vendor for the vendor to make the guarantee for you that transaction is displayed as a credit on the vendor account and on a special G/L account...

  • Financial accounting Letter of credit

    Dear All,
    Please help me out.
    How to post the statistical posting like letter of credit in sap and what sp gl config we have to do?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Bhadresh V. Shah

    Hello
    Guarantees made are shown in the notes to the balance sheet. Guarantees received, however, are not displayed on the balance sheet. Nevertheless, it is a good idea for internal purposes to have an overview of the guarantees that you have received. In the SAP system, therefore, you can manage guarantees made and received separately from other business transactions - as special G/L transactions.
    Processing Guarantees in the SAP System
    In the Financial Accounting application component, you use a special function to post guarantees. When you enter a guarantee, you merely enter the account assignments for posting to the customer or vendor account. The offsetting entry is always made to the same offsetting account, a clearing account. This is carried out by the system.
           1.      You post a guarantee made to your customer’s account.
           2.      The system makes the offsetting entry automatically to a clearing account.
    Transactions where the system always makes offsetting entries automatically to the same account are called statistical postings, since they are generally not displayed on the balance sheet or only in the appendix. For example, guarantees received are not displayed while guarantees made are displayed in the appendix of the balance sheet because of the liability to recourse.
    You require the following to post guarantees:
    ·        Separate special G/L accounts for guarantees made and guarantees received.
    For more information, see Special G/L Accounts
    ·        Clearing accounts for the offsetting entry
    For more information, see Clearing Accounts
    ·        Posting keys for the offsetting entry
    These posting keys are already defined in the system.
    Clearing Accounts
    To make an offsetting entry for a guarantee posting, you create the clearing account and define the account number in the system for the automatic posting. You must specify the clearing accounts separately for each chart of accounts. You can differentiate the accounts per debit and credit postings. Since the automatic offsetting entry procedure can be used for any special G/L transactions, you can also differentiate the accounts per account type via the special G/L indicator.
    You post guarantees made and received in your system. Additional transactions can also be configured for which an automatic offsetting entry posting is necessary. This enables you to post interest receivables to the same account for example. You would then differentiate your clearing accounts according to the account type and special G/L indicator.

  • Special GL

    Hello
    How do we deal with Letter of credit, Bills of exchange, Post date checks and Guarantees.
    I understand that we use the special gl transactions and statistical postings to take care of these.
    What I want to understand is how the accounting process is carried out for all of these.
    Thanks and Regards

    Hi...
    Bills of exchange :
    The customer pays for goods with a check. At the same time, he draws a bill of exchange on which he is named as the drawee and the vendor as the drawer. He sends the check and the bill of exchange to the vendor.
    The vendor signs the bill of exchange as the drawer and returns it to the customer.
    The customer passes on the bill of exchange to his bank to be discounted. Although the bill of exchange is drawn on him, he uses it himself for refinancing: he is credited with an amount that he himself owes to his vendor. The bank credits him with the bill of exchange amount minus the charges and discount interest.

  • EJB - MDB and Session and Entity - Seem to always run under same Thread

    I am working on an application that implemets a connection from an MDB to a Session EJB which inturn connects to a Entity EJB. All connections are impemented as Local Home. I use log4j for tracing and notice that the thread ID reported for all activity is the same "Thread ID: MessageListenerThreadPool : 0" .
    This confuses me because I thought that all EJB's would execute under different threads. Have I done something wrong? Have I missinterpreted the EJB implementation? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!!

    Hi Kelly,
    This is a slight misinterpretation of the EJB threading requirements. There are a couple different issues as play here. First, the main threading guarantee made by the spec is that a particular instance of an EJB will not be invoked by the container on more than one thread at a time. This is one of the guarantees that simplifies the EJB programming model so that developers don't have to do anything special (e.g. the use of synchronized blocks) to handle concurrent access. Second, the EJB Local programming model requires that invocations have pass-by-reference semantics. Of course, the easiest way for the container to provide that behavior is to literally make the local invocation on the same thread.
    The call-flow you're describing touches a single instance from three different beans, so the threading guarantee is not violated. Hope that clears things up a bit.

  • Class merging - breaking Concurrency?

    Hello there,
    I use a class-merging tool for my applet development because applet-size does really a lot for what I am creating.
    The class-merger does "nothing" more than to copy two classes into one and to add an int-field clalled "classTypeField". If two methods are named equal and may not renamed (e.g. because both classes implement Runnable) it does:
    public void run() {
      if(classTypeField == -1)
      run_class1();
    }else
    if(classTyoeField == 0)
       run_class2();
    }The class-type field is initialized in a modified constructor and which looks like this (copied from decompiled code):
    public int classTypeField;
        public DecrypterInputStream(InputStream is,
                        EncrypterOutputStream decrypter, int i) {
         decrypter$1e835275 = decrypter;
         this.is = is;
            this.classTypeField = -1;
        }Am I right when assuming that this code is broken?
    I am not completly sure, but if e.g. the run() method is executed on another thread than the thread the object was created it could be that the if(classTypeField==-1)-check would see a wrong value, right?
    For Java-5+ its enough to add a "final"-keyword, for java<5.0 the classTypeField has to volatile, right?
    Or am I missing some guarantees made by the JVM?
    Thank you in advance, lg Clemens

    Thanks a lot for your detailed answer.
    The issue is then how the object is published such that other threads can use it. I have some problems to identify use-cases which could be problematic. Are there typical use-cases where such problems could be visible? My classes are mostly "manager-classes" instatiated on the EDT and used by some threads.
    Should I recommend the tool-writers to make the classTypeField final? I guess they'll hate it because it means they would have to initialize it in any case and for now they relied on beeing 0 if not set ;)
    Thanks a lot for your helpful and detailed answers all the time, lg Clemens

  • BOE General Queries

    Hi all,
    In BOE what is the meaning of contingent liability account. How does that affect the financial statemetns ? What is the reason for reverse contingency?
    Suresh

    Hi Suresh,
    Contingent liabilities are liabilities that may or may not be incurred by a company and which depend on the outcome of a forthcoming event such as a court case. These are recorded in a company's accounts as contingent liabilities under accounts payable.
    An example of this could be forward contract and is explained below.
    A forward contract is an agreement between two parties to buy or sell an asset (which can be of any kind) at a pre-agreed future point in time. Therefore, the trade date and delivery date are separated. It is used to control and hedge risk, for example currency exposure risk (e.g. forward contracts on USD or EUR) or commodity prices (e.g. forward contracts on oil).
    One party agrees (obligated) to sell, the other to buy, for a forward price agreed in advance. In a forward transaction, no actual cash changes hands. If the transaction is collaterised, exchange of margin will take place according to a pre-agreed rule or schedule. Otherwise no asset of any kind actually changes hands, until the maturity of the contract.
    The forward price of such a contract is commonly contrasted with the spot price, which is the price at which the asset changes hands (on the spot date, usually two business days). The difference between the spot and the forward price is the forward premium or forward discount.
    A standardized forward contract that is traded on an exchange is called a futures contract.
    Reverse contingency arrangements are sometimes used when an attorney represents a defendant. The reverse contingency fee may be based on a percentage of the amount an attorney can save the client in settling or winning the case.
    Hope this helps. Please assign points.
    Rgds

  • SP GL Transactions

    hi Gurus
    can any body help me to know <b>THE IMPORTANCE OF SP. GL TRANSACTIONS IN FI</b> IRESPECTIVE OF DOWN PAYMENTS    &
    <b>HOW THE BANK GUARANTES ARE TO BE TREATED HERE IN THIS ASPECT</b>
    Thanks in advance
    Varma

    Hi,
    Importance of special GL transactions -
    1. These are displayed separately in the GL and subsidiary ledger.  These are for reporting or internal purpose
    There are different ways that special GL can be entered -
    1. Down payment - When down payment is received, it is treated as real posting i.e part of balance sheet.  But when down payment request is made, it is considered as a noted item and are not intended to be displayed in the GL, but are only to remind u that some outstandings are due or to be made
    2. Bank guarantees are 'automatic offestting' entry that are always posted to the same offsetting account.  they are typically part of balance sheet appendix.
    Example
    When you agree wth customer to stand as a guarantor for Rs. 5000, thereby u have a probability that u may be liable to this amount.  This liability is shown in the customer account and the special GL accunt 'Gurantees made'.  The automatic offsetting posting is made to the clearing account fo the guarantees made.  When the liability no longer exist,s the guarantee would then be reversed.

  • No guarantee for defect left audio, bcs of waterdamage made long ago

    Hello everyone,
    the left side of my headphones doesn't work well.
    It works fine if you turn and switch a bit and then lay it down if it works. But you have to leave it almost untouched, which is quite difficult if your riding a bike or walking.
    Now is the problem that Apple refuses guarantee. Why?
    Well, in the end of July this year, I was stupid and spoiled some water on my Touch 2G. _I am sure that my problem is not caused by waterdamage._ I will try to teel you while. I give a short summary of things happened till my audioproblem.
    {{{First my iPod worked fine, except of some waterspots and a strip on my screen.. I was totally happy. But after two days it wouldn't load. Then I was on holiday so I couldn't have contact with apple support. On 24 august I emailed, just for try, and received answer that Apple could nothing do for me, and I accepted it because it was my own fault. My touch díd still work, but when I set it asleep, it wouldn't wake up, till its batterie was fully empty so I could load it.
    But as a miracle, the iPod started recovering till fully healthy, the only thing that is still wrong, was the screen that still had some dirty spots.}}}
    By the way, my liquidindicator is only for 2/5 red, does this say something?
    About the 3rd week of october, my headset gave the described problem. I thought my headset was broken and the shop where I bought my headphones replaced them, which took some time too. The day before yesterday I mailed an Applestore and told about the audioproblem and the waterdamage which I considered to have nothing to do with. I still received the answer it could be corrosion.
    I think this is totally ridiculous. At first, it was only a bit water.
    (I am not sure if the indicator at 2/5 approves this, or my indicator is just a bit deviant)
    My iPod worked fine over one month long, till the audioproblem.
    If corrosion was damaging my iPod, why did my iPod recover, but my audioport started to give suddenly problems after 2,5 month?
    Very striking: When I had to mention the kind of problem I had to specify my problem from >Repair< / Replace >>> swithches and buttons / Power / >Sound< / Screen >>> and then choose from 8 options, including _I hear only sound at one side (left or right) while playing._
    They seem to be familiar with this problem. What could actually cause this problem?
    And if it was corrosion, wont the other side be defective too or got defective in one month?
    And the most important question: Ain't that time too long to really damage stuff and even still so suddenly?
    Thank you all
    Message was edited by: Justsayhello

    I mean; one defective audio channel is a quite specific problem; (I think it's a too specific problem to be caused by waterdamage), but though the service-requestpage of Apple has placed it in the list of common sound problems. People that have water damage usually have more than one problem on their iPod, so why would people with water damage go to that very specific problem (not even to 'no sound at all-problem' but to 'one defective channel-problem)
    I think I mean its just thát one thing that is wrong. And (all) people with waterproblems won't ever go to that specific problem if they request service.
    So ór I am a miraculous exception, ór it's caused by something else then waterdamage.
    I dont really know how to express it, or maybe it just isnt an argument, but I feel something like there's an argument in it. Can anyone maybe word it better or say I'm talking nonsense?
    (But please stay on my main-article)
