Hacking Apple's CD-ROM extensions

I have burned a 701.2 MB CD-ROM containing old Macintosh software using my '17 iMac G5. I have tried the downloadable Apple CD-ROM Extension 5.4 & I have extracted version 5.4.2 of the Apple CD-ROM Extension from my Mac OS 8.1 CD-ROM by using TomeViewer. How might I hack one of these two Apple CD-ROM Extensions so they can read large CD-ROMs that are 700 MBs or more in size?
I would also like to know which of the other extensions such as ISO 9660 File Access, Foreign File Access, High Sierra File Access would need to be hacked for this to work properly too. I already have ResEdit. I just need to know what resources to change or manipulate to allow larger CD-ROMs to be read successfully.
Both of my external SCSI CD-ROM drives are Apple external SCSI CD-ROM drives so that shouldn't be an issue either.

Hi,
How do you know that a CD-ROM extension is to blame in this case (BTW, it would hardly be appropriate to discuss such software hacking here)? The problem may be hardware related. An old CD-ROM drive can have difficulties handling certain modern discs (e.g., CD-RW). Are you using 700 MB CD-R? Could this or this possibly be of interest?

"I need to erase the contents of my phone and restore to factory settings. Does anybody know how to save your texts so you don't lose them?  Can I back those up to iCloud?  My phone was very likely hacked (Apple's advice was to call the police!)"
That was all I could put in the initial "box."  Then it brought me to this page with instructions on how to write a good sentence.
    Proceeding ...
After going back and forth between Apple, AT&T and the police (all telling me to go to the other two) I took AT&Ts suggestion and got a new number. One tech warned against doing a backup, especially on my Mac, saying if my phone had been hacked then whatever bug was there would then invade my computer. But nobody knows how to determine if the phone has been hacked or a virus was planted there. Unfortunately I know who would have reason to do such a thing and all I can say is that he is at the top technologically and could easily do it. Almost impossible to prove, however.
So I need to preserve my text messages and my emails as well. I backed up my photos to that Microsoft product (One-Drive) and it froze (Surprise, Surprise) with four short videos to go, and no way of stopping that (when I tried it crashed repeatedly) so I'm in crisis mode here.
    Help ...
    Running 8.0 on 5S
    Thanks!

Betty I don't know if you fixed your hacking problem but I feel your pain. I've seen some strange things going on between my iMac and my iPhone and Apple has told me the same thing, call the police which I have done. The hackers have stole 500.00 out of my checking account have access to every internet account I use and no matter how often I change the password their right back on the account. I closed my FB account 3 times only to have someone reopen it. Right now I've got a link in my reading list (Safari) that if I click on it, it allows me to log onto my FB account anonymously.
I've seen a green folder come out of no where while I was trying to delete my passwords out of keychain when that green folder was put into the key chain I was immediately locked out. I than went into system preferences to try to make changes to my security settings, when I clicked on the icon it wouldn't open. I've seen log files of automator receiving commands and sending out my personal information thats on my computer.
I have a legitamate program called iExplorer that allows you to look at the contents of your iPhone back ups and saw a transaction someone made at the Apple store for some full length movies, some albums, ibooks and other apps but when I called the iTunes store and they said none of those items were showing up on my account. If their not on my account how can they be on my iPhone 6? One day someone was using my gmail account and unknowingly used google maps to search for an Italian restaurant, than a Mexican restaurant than a coffee shop and their search showed up on my iPhone but I didn't have my gmail account installed on my iPhone 6. Using my computer I logged onto my gmail account and looked at the maps history and sure enough there were the searches when I'd hover my curser over the link it gave me the longitude and latitude of the where the hacker was when he was using google maps. I know whoever reads this thinks Im crazy but I've documented everything and can prove the things that I have mentioned in this post actually happened.
One day I had my laptop (pc) and my iMac next to each other as I was using both. when I clicked on airport it showed that my laptop and my iMac had made a connection and were actually communicating with each other. I know I didn't do it I don't know how. The iMac was logged into my iCloud account while my laptop wasn't. I have formatted my iPhone at least a dozen times, Apple and an Apple retailer have formatted my hard drive not to mention the numerous times I have formatted it but the hackers keep getting on my devices. Im formatting my lap top at this very second because during the course of the night I left the ethernet cable plugged into it and they locked me out of my c: drive, and configured the system so I can't download any updates from Microsoft, overtime I type in www.microsoft.com it changes to ww38.microsoft.com which takes me to a blank page. I right clicked on the page I was redirected to and read the java script and couldn't believe that someone had actually configured Internet Explorer to redirect me to a blank page when I tried to go to Microsoft. Apples answer to all this is there was nothing wrong with my iPhone or my iMac and if I thought there was a problem to call the police which I have done.
Theres no doubt the hackers are reading this while I type it or will read it and I simply don't care anymore. I no longer email anyone, don't use my iCloud account and have taken precautions to protect my credit but if I ever find out who has invaded my privacy to this extreme the police are going to want to talk to me because Im going to hurt them like they've never been hurt before

  • What format do Apple IIGS CD-ROM's use?

I am trying to make a CD-ROM that is readable on an Apple IIGS. What format did Apple II CD-ROM's use? I'm assuming that they were not ProDOS because ProDOS has a maximum capacity of 32MB. They must have been some kind of hybrid format.

This article (from a search including Archives) says they are ISO 9660:
    SYSTEM SOFTWARE:
The Apple IIGS Personal computer features Version 5.0.4 of Apple IIGS System Software, including the following:
    • GS/OS Operating System. Exclusively created for the Apple IIGS personal computer, GS/OS dramatically increases the speed of both disk access and program launching. It also includes File System Translators (FSTs) that allow applications to directly access files created using other file systems, such as the ISO/High Sierra file system used by CD-ROM devices.

  • News of hacking Apple Products today. Security question.

News of hacking Apple products today. How to get and install for iMac and iPhone4?

The patch for iOS devices is already available for iOS6 and iOS7 - go to Settings - Software Update on your phone and perform the update to 6.1.6 or 7.0.6.
A patch for Mac OS X is not yet available.
For Mac computers, you should not connect to any wireless network that you don't know and trust - this is good general practice anyway, but especially important until this security problem is patched for OS X.

  • Apple AV composite cable & extension cable

    Hi everyone,
Please can anyone help me with my problem?
I went to the apple store and bought the official AV composite cable 30 pin for my device.
    It's working perfectly BUT ...
When I'n connecting my device to the AV cable via an extension cord (1 meter), image will not show at all and I have no sound...
    Working scenario :
device ---> Apple AV original cable  ---> TV
    Non working scenario :
device ---> third party extension cable ---> Apple AV original cable  ---> TV
    Any idea?
    extension cable is new...
    THANKS !!

Hi Lyssa, well that was my first guess indeed but yesterday I managed to make it work ...
Done nothing special but connecting and disconnecting the cable again and again...
I think the quality of the extension cable is to be considered. I have ordered another one...
So to my question : could we use an extension cable and an apple AV composite out cable : answer is YES !
    Thanks for the help!

  • Hacking Apple Pro Speakers

    hi all,
yah all know the Apple Pro Speakers (eye balls). They have that silly 1.2mm minijack and won't work with standard minijack plugs. They are apparently powered by the sound card in those machines they were intended for but not my old GigaBot Ethernet G4. I knew this when i bought them at a garage sale but as they were so cheap I could not help myself. So... there was a work around Griffin Tech came up with that drew 5v power from the Firewire connection while sound came thru via the standard mini jack... odd but it seems to have worked.
In order to work around this has anyone hacked these things? Two wires into the cones... can they be spliced into an alternate amp like my old Altec-Lansing... cut the wires and splice them together? Anyone try this?
    D.

    Thnx again.
I am watching the ebay auctions.... the iFire seems to be something that lots of folks want... so the price is silly.
I have the cases open on my desk. Tonight I am going to snip off the apple wires at the speaker and run some of my own to an old AltecLansing amp (blown speakers). I am going to wire in the AltecLansing speaker control in a litttle seperate box. I think it should work.

  • Hacked Apple Accounts

Hi. Sorry but I'm not sure if I'm in the right forum or not but have some questions regarding hacked accounts.
I was wondering what is the likelihood that your Apple ID can be used for hacking activities and what's the worse that can happen if your account gets hacked into?
I've read how hackers can run up hundreds in bills using itunes under your apple accounts.
I have two apple ID accounts and would like to delete them but I don't think Apple will let me. What's the best way to make sure that my account never gets hacked into? I've already changed my info in one of my apple accounts so that none of it can be traced to any of my real personal information (entering gibberish and a fake email address). I also am not registered with Itunes. Can people still use my apple ID for fraudulent activities (such as purchasing apple products or something)? I don't have any credit card info in these accounts by the way. Just my full name, address, phone, etc.
If someone could explain/clarify these issues to me, that'd be great.
    Thanks.

I don't really see how they could do much of anything. I suppose they could pretend to be you and post here on the forums.
    Best of luck.

  • Is there an jdev ARCS (appl. revision control system) extension available ?

Is there an ARCS ( application revision control system ) extension available for Jdeveloper ?
Googling took me to OAF developer guide which said -
"With the ARCS (Applications Revision Control System) Extension for JDeveloper, you can perform most
source control tasks without leaving JDeveloper. For additional information about enabling and using this tool,
see the E-Business Suite Application Development Services ARCS Extension for JDeveloper web page."
Can someone point me where to look for this page ? ( I am in Oracle Intranet, so it is accessible for me even if it is an internal page )

    Hi,
source code control is through Subversion (recommended). For more read up about Team Productivity Center - http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/tpc/overview/index.html

  • Hacked Apple id email stating recent download from other device

Got an email pop up from Apple saying that my Apple ID had been used to buy Texas Hold Em.
Never given out my address NOR my password.
" it stats that Texas Hold Em Pro Series from the App store was downloaded from a computer or device that had not previously been associated with that apple ID "
So straight away changed my password and enetered for the two step verfication.
I had some pre paid balance on my account, luckly it was a free app. The email states that my ID was used in CANADA.
Living in the UK and knowing who i share my account its clearly not me.
Is there anyway to lodge or send APPLE anything to state that this has happened.
As stated the person that somehow got my details downloaded a free app,  i then changed my password and went through all my ID on the apple site to check everything was not changed or editied.
I have signed in and out of the app store to check if they have since got access to my account.
Now what is the next step to take. Im not happy about it but i do realise these things happen.
If anyone or someone could direct me inn helping me take the correct step that would be great

This has happened to me several times.  It is typically a free app, and it is for an email address I used to have as my Apple ID (when I got my first iPod shuffle).   I've since updated my Apple ID email so I was surprised to find the old one referenced.  I went to the apple site and found an option to "merge" the two, so I did, and I changed my password.  I thought that would take care of it, but I got another email today.
On the one hand, I'm not super worried because the apps are free; on the other hand, I am worried because I don't know who is doing this and onto what device.  If anyone has any tips, I'd be very happy to hear them.

  • CD-ROM Driver 5.3.1 for Non-Apple TEAC CD Drive

    I saw a web article http://chrislawson.net/writing/macdaniel/2k1130cl.shtml
and searched for the Apple CD-ROM Driver 5.3.1
    After my original CD-ROM failed in a PowerMac 7600, I installed a PowerComputing CD-ROM I salvaged.
I have been able to get it to come up on the desktop and play music and read disks, but it doesn't show up on boot now. It whirs and blinks. When I open the CD audio player it says the Apple CD/DVD Driver did not load at startup, whether it it in the Ext folder or not. I booted using an Apple CD-ROM 600i and everything works just fine. Then I switched to the TEAC without shutting down and it read the disks and plyed music. I think there is something in the Apple CD/DVD Driver Ext that gets read at boot.
Anyway, it seems Driver 5.3.1 might work instead of CD/DVD which is in OS 9.2
Any suggestions on what to do or where to look? Thanks
    PowerMac 7600-132 Mac OS 9.2.x

Hi, cdonpaul. PowerComputing had to use CD-ROM drives in its computers that did not contain Apple's ROM. The proprietary ROM in Apple's own drives made them bootable using the c-key-at-startup key combination, and also made them supportable by the Apple CD-ROM extension and the later Apple CD/DVD Driver extension. Without the Apple ROM, PowerComputing's drives had neither capability.
PCC worked around these two issues by relying on the Command-Option-Shift-Delete startup key combination for booting from a CD, and supplying a third-party driver for its optical drives. FWB's CD-ROM Toolkit was shipped with all PCC computers instead of Apple's drivers. But then the version of CDRTK that PCC shipped was incompatible with OS 8.5, so anyone who hadn't found a better alternative had to upgrade CDRTK at least once, maybe more, to upgrade their OS to or beyond OS 8.5.
I left CDRTK behind because I was lucky enough to get an APS CD-ROM driver (bundled with my first CD-RW drive) that supports my PCC PowerTower Pro's optical drive, at least through OS 9.1. The driver was discontinued many years ago by the now-defunct APS, and I doubt that anyone still cares whether the driver is freely distributed now. So if you like, I'll email you a copy and you can see whether it supports your drive.
There was also a patch that could be applied to one of Apple's CD-ROM driver versions to make it support a larger variety of third-party drives, but I've forgotten all the details myself.

  • Apple Lossless extension

If I import an aiff file to Apple Lossless, the file extension is m4a and the "Kind" is MPEG-4, same as AAC.
Is that correct and can someone explain why?

The encoding is done in iTunes. I create a new playlist in iTunes. I drag an AIFF file from the Finder window into the empty playlist window. I set the iTunes Preferences to "Import Using Apple Lossless Encoder." Then, under the Advanced menu, I select "Convert Selection to Apple Lossless." iTunes places the resulting file in a folder named Unknown Album (within an Unknown Artist folder). I then repeat the process with the new compressed file, that is, I add the file to an iTunes playlist, change the Preferences to "Import Using AIFF" and select "Convert Selection to AIFF" under the Advanced menu. I Then compare the 2 AIFF files with the Finder's Get Info menu item. The file sizes are different as I indicated above.
If you have a small AIFF file handy, try it yourself and tell me what you get.

  • Apple branded ROM Seagate 500 GB Hard Disk for G5 1.6 GHz

I've been reading all the threads here regarding adding/replacing the internal HD's in G5's.
I just bought a used Power Mac G5 1.6 GHZ/80 GB/1 GB RAM/Combo Drive (didn't like that surprise... it was a built to order....guess I'll be getting a Pioneer replacement for that too).
This G5 is in my recording studio and I need to add a large drive as the media drive for my digital audio recording projects since audio generates large files like video applications do.
I've been using the Mac since it was first released in 1984. As a result, I remember all the years of Apple's "special" ROM in their hard disks which made it more of a pain to use other HD's from various sources. Since I did have drives from different suppliers, I've used the old Silverlining software from LaCie over the years to deal with drives that Apple Disk utilities couldn't/wouldn't see.
I see that OWC has a special on Apple branded ROM Seagate 500 GB and 750 GB drives.
The text states that the drive will have a one year OWC warranty.
So I guess the two questions are:
    1. Does it matter any more if the ROM on the hard disk is an Apple ROM or will anything pretty much work. Are there any advantages to having a drive with an Apple ROM in it? Would these be a "better' candidate for use as a boot drive beacuse of the Apple ROM?
    2. What's up with the one year warranty? I see the other comparable drives are usually all 5 years.
Should the one year OWC warranty be of any concern? Obviously, 5 years is better than one year.
I'm assuming these are a discontinued item or were bought from Apple as OEM stock?
So should I care more about the longer drive warranty or the Apple ROM on these seagates from OWC?
Thanks for putting up with another G5 internal HD question.
    John

I forgot to put the OWC link in that takes you the Apple ROM 500 GB Seagate I referenced in my original post.

  • HT5163 my original Apple Id Email was hacked.  How can i change my Iphone apple Id ?  ive changed it on my pc and my ipad but cannot do it on the phone (iphone 4)

My original apple id email was hacked.  how can i change my apple id for my iphone 4. im able to change it for the pc and my ipad but cannot chonge it for the phone

I had the same problem last month.
The only fix was to call Apple Support. Basically, the history of the account could be followed and the hacker had changed the email address and no doubt the password of my apple id. The account also showed purchases in £ so I suspect the associated country been changed as well?  Apple support blocked his associated credit card, restored the account back to a date where I had last used it and we then changed the Apple ID to a new email address. I could have used the old Apple ID, effectively regaining control of it, but I wasn't attached to it and it enhanced security by changing it.
Scared myself last night as my daughetrs iphone had been associated with the old ID and she couldn't access the icloud acocunt. I'd manged to restore her iphone, although it was asking for the passowrd of the hacked Apple ID, I used the password for the 'new' ID (just the old one with a changed email) and it worked. Even after restoring the iphone, I still had to change my 'new' apple id back to the 'old' email so she could sign out of the 'old' icloud account on her phone after the restore and disable 'find my iphone'. Only then could she add her own personal icloud account and I changed my apple id back to the new email. Confused?
Point is, you will need apple support to regain control of your apple id. If you're not attched to it and want a new or modified apple id, make sure you sign out of all assoicted devices first!

  • Low Memory Alert, Force quit applications, kernel task and apple.internetaccounts

Like the title says, im getting low memory alerts or a frozen computer.  I am only running chrome and messages.  After sorting through all of the threads about this problem, and watching my activity monitor, Kernel will take up 4.5 GB and com.apple.internetaccounts will take up 1.5-2 GB, which, with my other apps open and background crap will put me at 8GB and my computer attempts to commit suicide.
Any words of wisdom on how to deal with this mess? Or is rebooting my mac every 37 minutes the new norm?
