Hal-flash to watch DRM-protected content in firefox

Hi guys,
I'm facing a weird problem that I cannot find solution for.
I have followed wiki and installed hal-flash + udisks2 on my desktop PC since I wanted to watch some DRM-protected content on internet (person of interest to be precise). All worked great.
But then my wife, who also is running Arch on her laptop (samsung 900x series) wanted to watch the same content on it.
So I quickly ssh-ed to her laptop, installed exactly the same hal-flash and udisks2 + I also removed all the firefox cache - but no success, flash video that is playing nicely on my PC does not play on her laptop.
I checked all relevant software version (that is firefox, hal-flash, udisks2) - the same on both PC and laptop. To my simple understanding it should work on both computers...
I'm feeling a bit dumb because I told my wife using linux will be as easy as using windws and now it seems I cannot figure out something that seems to be a 'simple thing' from her point of view (obviously after reading wiki I know it's a bit more complex and in the same time interesting issue)...
So I humbly ask somebody to direct me what may be wrong here?

Ok, so I installed pipelight and also I enabled flash - however flash is not appearing on the list of plugins. So I removed my flashplugin (the standard one I installed when setting up firefox) - it seems firefox does not recognise that there is a plugin installed... Trilby, should flash appear on about:plugins page?
--edit--
It seems browser should be closed when installing wine-silverlight. I uninstalled pipelight, closed the browser and installed again - now plugin appears however it's showing error:

  • Creating DRM-Protected Content for Playback in Quicktime

I would like to create some protected audio content, not for sale, but so that only authorized persons can listen to it. Since I have had problems with Windows Media DRM, I am wondering whether a private person can create DRM-protected content that Quicktime can play back. I don't know how authorizations would work and I am not intending to stream the content, just to make it available for download.
Does anyone know about this? Any ideas? A series of Google searches on Apple's website produced nothing relevant.

Sorry, but there is no scheme for creating copy protection in a QuickTime file, at least none that are practical. There was Media Keys, but that was only supported by the SorensonVideo 3 codec. Apple has not made the DRM they use for the iTunes Store available to other users.
The only way I can think of to copy-protect a QuickTime file for a web site would be to either put the download on a password-protected web page or wrap the QuickTime file in a password-protected archive of some format (Stuffit can password-protect an archive and there are probably other solutions as well).

  • Air 3.6 will not play DRM protected content.

    This is getting silly.
AIR 3.5 will play DRM protected content, but won't guarantee playing NetStream to the end, AIR 3.6 fixes that... BUT... won't play DRM protected content.

This one is getting close to being a showstopper for us.

Thank you for adding the bug report.  I'm pinging the video/drm team on this issue and we'll update the bug report asap.

    Thanks Erik,
If nothing else, this huge list of updates and fixes, shows clearly that the Logic Dev team is working hard on fixing and improving LPX to a major degree.... and from the list of fixes done.. show they do read the bug reports submitted!
    As an aside....
I recall how all the 'naysayers' prior to LPX (and in some cases, since...)  were proclaiming how Logic was dead, the team was being disbanded, we won't see any further development, the Dev team doesn't listen or care... and so on....... I wonder where those people are now?

  • How to play previously DRM protected content in 3rd party iOS apps?

I have a collection of tracks which I purchased from iTunes around 2008, which have the iTunes DRM protection. I would like to play these tracks through 3rd party iOS applications. Specifically, the applications "NuVo Player", "Sonos", and "Ambify", although this seems to apply to all 3rd party music apps.
To remove the DRM from the files, I signed up for iTunes match. I enabled the service in iTunes, and let it scan my library. Once it was complete, I deleted the tracks which have DRM, and used the iTunes match service to re-download them. I used the Finder to inspect the new files, and verified that they are no longer protected. They are .m4a format, and are capable of being played by 3rd party applications in OS X.
I then removed the protected files from my phone, and manually re-synced the new files to my phone. Even after doing this, they are unplayable by 3rd party iOS apps. Unsurprisingly, syncing this .m4a file to a new device (which never had the protected version) allows it to play.
It seems that metadata of some kind may be retained on the iOS device. I suspect a full device restore would fix the problem, but I'm looking for a less intrusive solution.

I found that restoring defaults on the device, followed by a restore from backup, allows this track to play in 3rd party apps.

It means that the show's creators put technical restrictions on when the file or stream can be played. No Mac software is capable of handling such Windows Media content.

  • Cannot play Adobe Access Protected Content in Chrome (version 30 and higher); Error 3321/3322?

    Symptom:
An end-user cannot play Adobe Access protected content.  The client application returns a persistent 3321 (Individualization Error) or 3322 (Device Binding Failure) error code.
    Root Cause in Chrome Browser:
Adobe Access DRM must create a unique machine identifier (I.e. "token") to identify the the device.  This token is provided to the Adobe Access license server during a license request to view DRM protected content.  If Chrome Browser disables the ability for Adobe Access DRM to create a unique machine identifier, playback of Protected Content will fail with a 3321 or 3322 error code.  By default, this setting is enabled and available to toggle in Chrome Browser version 30 and higher.  Unchecking this option will prevent Adobe Access DRM from properly functioning. A 3321 or 3322 error that persists after a call to resetDRMVouchers is an indicator that this setting may need to be changed.
    Resolution:
    In your Chrome settings:
    •             Click on "Show advanced settings…"
    •             In the subsequent "Privacy" section, click on "Content settings…"
    •             In the subsequent "Protected Content" section, make sure that the following box is checked "Allow identifiers for protected content (computer restart may be required)".
We are working with Google to allow better detection of this condition, so that the client will return a 3368 (User cancelled or user settings disallow operation) error code when the box is unchecked.

  • I keep getting error 3322 suberror 1000136 DRM auth. error using Firefox

I keep getting error 3322 suberror 1000136 DRM auth. error using Firefox but have no problem playing same content in Chrome. I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox but kept personal settings, which did not fix the problem. Can you help?

You may have had a change in hardware since the last time you accessed protected content with Firefox. To reset the protected content licenses, go to the settings manager, and click on Reset Content Licenses. Here is a link to the settings manager: http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager08.htm l

  • Flash Player 10.3 video playback protected content Error #3343?

I have been streaming videos and movies I have purchased without problems until yesterday when Amazon wouldn't load the video and suggest upgrading Flash Player.
I have an iMac G5 with Intel Core Duo 2 processor and OS X 10.5, so Flash Player 10.3.183.29 is the most up-to-date version my computer can have.
I went to Adobe site and followed instructions for removing the bad Adobe Flash Access DRM module, deployed in 2011. Replaced it with the corrected DRM module. When I ran the test for protected content through the Adobe demo video player, no video played and received message: Error #3343. IV check failed.
What is error #3343? How can this be resolved?
Would greatly appreciate anyone's help on this.
    Thanks.

I have the exact same problem as everyone above. "error #3343 IV check failed".
    OS: OS X 10.5.8
    Flash Version: 10.3.183.29
I wanted to watch a show I bought on Amazon Video, and it told me I need to upgrade my Flash Player. I'm running OS X 10.5.8 so the newest for me is 10.3.183.29. It sucessfully installs and low and behold, Amazon Video tells me that I need to upgrade my Flash Player. I followed all the necessary protocol according to Adobe, deleting all the files in the Native Cash folder, going to the protected video test page, and loading the correct URL into the player. It did put the folder in Native Cache that Adobe said it would, but clearly it doesn't work.
This is clearly a bug in the newest verion of Flash Player for OS X 10.5 users.
Seriously anyone from Adobe or any moderator bring attention to this problem so that it can be fixed. Don't alienate your customers just because they're using an OS that's 5 years old.

  • Cant play DRM encrypted content with flash player 11.3

Hi, Im working as a developer on a video on demand service!
I just updated to flash player 11.3 and now i can't  play any DRM encrypted content anymore on windows.
I use SSL to connect to the DRM server, please help!

    I use Windows Vista.
    Flash Player v 11,3,300,257
Does not work on Chrome 19, FireFox 13 or IE.
I tried to play the video http://drmtest2.adobe.com/AccessPlayer/player.html and i get a 3329 DRM error

  • Unable to install the adobe protected content module

I'm getting an unable to install the adobe protected content module error while trying to watch video on a website I've used millions of times (http://video.citytv.com/video/ ).    I've checked on your link to find that I'm running  version 10.3.183.29 on mac os x 10.5.8 which is the most current flash I can have with my operating system.  I've changed from Chrome, to firefox to safari to watch this site with no luck on any browsers.  I'm getting pretty frustrated.  Please Help.

    Hi Justine,
We're looking into citytv.com and the brightcove setup there.
In the meantime, could you see if "known good" content plays using the Mac OSX setup and player you have?
    1.  Open the Adobe test player http://drmtest2.adobe.com:8080/TVP/TestVideoPlayer_FP.html
    2.  In the URL field, enter http://drmtest2.adobe.com:8080/Content/anonymous.f4v     (case-sensitive)
    3.  Press the [Update Adobe CP] button.  It should log "AdobeCP update Complete. Updating time: xxxx milliseconds" at the right.
    4.  Press the [Play] button and see if you see the Getty Train video playing.
For our internal testing, we were using the 30Rock episode 6, season 7:
    http://video.citytv.com/video/detail/1971593280001.000000/aunt-phatso-vs-jack-donaghy/
What error are you getting during attempted playback?
We assume you're from Canada since CityTV is from Canada.
What we see is:  if we try to play this content from the U.S, it fails to play on any platform (Windows 7, Windows XP, Mac OSX 10.8, 10.5.7 with various browsers & players) but we see no error - just blank video area.
When we use a system in our Canada office, playback works and it also works when we use VPN.   Is it possible there is some issue with checking geo-location?   (are you perhaps inadvertently logged into a VPN to the US during your playback tests?   or traveling?)
    Thanks.

  • Are there any sample DRM protected streams to build against?

    Hi,
I'm trying to test various elements of DRM (including problems with incognito mode...) and need a DRM protected stream to build against. Customer currently too snowed under with other things to provide one, so wondering whether there were any available from Adobe or anyone else?
I did find a link or two to things like; http://drmtest2.adobe.com:8080/Content/anonymous.f4v
But all of the links to drmtest2 come up as dead or moved.
Any ideas where they may have gone to?
    Thanks,
    G

    Hi Gaius,
    Welcome to Adobe Forums.
Please try the following steps in order to use the Test Player and stream:
First, launch the Adobe demo video player container: http://drmtest2.adobe.com:8080/SVP/SampleVideoPlayer_FP.html
Note the Adobe Flash Player version in the lower left of the demo video shell. Make sure that indicate 11.2 or higher
    Play sample protected content.
Enter the following URL in the field "Input the video URL: (case-sensitive)
    http://drmtest2.adobe.com:8080/Content/anonymous.f4v
Press the [Play] button at the bottom of the video container.
The anonymous.f4v protected content should play. (This video is called the Getty "train" video.)
Hope it helps! Let me know incase you face any issues.

  • RTMPE not Protecting Content?

    Hi everyone,
I'm a bit confused but I believe I am missing a step. Before
purchasing the Streaming Server, I need to be sure that the
encryption technology works and prevents users from using stream
recording technologies to save the clips. (Not referring to screen
recorders as we all know they will always work though with loss of
    some quality.)
I published a flash SWF file using the FLVPlayback component,
and pointed it to an RTMPE stream on my server at:
    rtmpe://66.186.176.18/vod/OSAAT.flv
The source path works as the video plays. To confirm that the
stream is encrypted I tried a program called "Replay Media Catcher"
that is designed to intercept an RTMP stream to save it. To my
complete surprise, it was able to save an exact copy of my RTMP
E stream as stored on my server!
I can't imagine that it could have decrypted a 128-bit key,
so I think I'm missing something. It's clear that RTMPE is turned
on on my server since the path works. Perhaps there's an additional
step to have it actually send a stream in an encrypted form? Is
there possibly a key that I need to place in the FLV file?
If so, can someone point me to documentation on how to set
    this up?
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Alan

Wow.. What about Wowza and these other 3rd party servers out
there. These are the same servers you threaten Adobe with by saying
you will "switch to" them if they don't do something about the 3rd
party clients like Replay Media Finder. Umm yeah... "Sue the
company that is pissing me off... or else I am going to go use the
other company's software that, in theory, does the same... exact...
    thing."
    Hi Jinny,
I'm not really trying to spark an argument but was simply
laying out a logical opinion and it wasn't emotional as you
suggest. Nonetheless, the open source product as I recall doesn't
provide the encryption technologies the Wowza and FMS does so it
doesn't apply. You do bring up a point about Wowza.
It's a big deal that Replay can, because Replay is very easy
for anyone to purchase and use with little computer knowledge. Keep
in mind that there are other companies that are using protections
that are being more successful. For example, iTunes videos are
truly encrypted by DRM technologies that no one (with the exception
of tunebite which again is a screen recorder software, not an
actual decrypter or catcher) except the most skillful hackers can
bypass. The tools are truly underground, because Apple took action
to ensure that the tools required to crack the DRM in the files was
not readily available on the internet. (In fact I can't even find
them online anywhere, but I know they exist.) All the sites that
were known to host these tools had them removed due to Apple's
    actions to protect their technology.
This is not to say that it's impossible, but it's very hard.
Another is companies that use Microsoft's DRM tools like
Amazon Unbox. Yes, it's possible to bypass this security, but
again, it's not as easy as buying a piece of software openly sold
on the market designed to bypass the DRM protection that Amazon
includes. Further, Microsoft continues to change the code in their
operating system to correct the security issues to prevent these
    tools from working.
The fact is, it's much harder to bypass the security in Apple
and Microsoft technologies right now, than it is to do the same to
people who use Adobe's FMS products.
My point is, realizing that it is going to be impossible to
protect the content 100% of the time, it should be much harder to
accomplish, and not so easy that any consumer can do it without
being a hacker. Regular internet users can openly buy this Replay
catcher software, install it, and use it on any FMS site,
regardless of Adobe's marketed security. Because it's so easy to
do, and so widely available, unlike other tools that do the same to
iTunes and other services, they may not even know that it's illegal
    to do!
I'm just pointing out the logical fact that Adobe's security
technology is not as protected as other products are, and wish and
encourage Adobe to aggressively move to better protect their
technologies that they market to their consumers so the consumers,
giving reliance to Adobe's argument about the protections they can
provide, can openly use and rely on the security technologies that
    Adobe has sold them.
Who cares if Replay Media Whatever gets the media. If that
software didn't get your precious media, there is another one that
will. Get OVER it. You don't want people "stealing" your stuff?
DON'T PUBLISH IT. It's not rocket science.
Again putting the emotion to the side. As stated earlier,
it's not about the expectation that the media be 100% protected,
but that the technologies used to accomplish this should not be as
readily available. If it is, Adobe needs to quickly address the
issue either to the company selling the product, or by changing
their product to implement new security to stop the product from
working on it. It will always be possible for the hacker with the
strong will to steal content, to do so, but it shouldn't be
possible for the average internet user to do the same. If it is,
something is not being done right to protect the content, and Adobe
needs to address the issue. Adobe should do what Apple and
Microsoft, and other services do more often.
Because it's so readily available, there are some companies
that can't rely on FMS, and are moving to a new product that has
stronger protection in it, called Jittr (some record labels are
using this) to protect their streaming content.
Also, it's a big deal that Replay can capture the media
because the media I was referring to was music videos under a
license by the record labels, under the premise that the content is
protected. (The streamed videos were to be performed via a stream,
and the user can then buy the video and download it.) It hurts when
any user can just buy this Replay product and keep a video copy and
WILL amount to lost sales. It does hurt business, it does matter.
If downloading iTunes videos and removing their protection
was just as easy, you can be sure that half of the videos sold
there would not be there. Apple recognizes this and has
aggressively fought the hackers making the tools, and would
certainly go after anyone that produces a commercial product that
    does the same.
God.. what is with you americans and "sue this, sue that. i
am a little baby and can't stop crying.. some one will pay."
Again, moving the emotion to the side, because there was no
emotion expressed in my message, and focusing on the logical
perspective only. Companies that advertise a product as having
security technologies that will protect their customers content
needs to take all reasonable steps to ensure it will do just this.
They need to take actions, either legal, or in a programming
nature, or both, to keep their server security technology at a
level which is not so readily easy to bypass. It's not about being
in a sue-happy nature, considering that lawsuits of this nature are
quite expensive (the general sue-happy philosophy you are
expressing is an unfortunate truth in the U.S., but it applies
mostly to small-claims issues by people or others trying to get
rich off of businesses. It doesn't apply here).
But they are sometimes neccesary. I'm not saying that Adobe
should sue the company, because there are other reasonable steps
that can be taken first, but it may have to come down to it and in
this case, it would be justified because Adobe would have a right
to ensure that people don't sell products that bypass their
security. It would be a move not only to protect themselves, but
everyone of their customers, and doesn't fall under a sue-happy
mentality. Further, the law actually provides a duty to people to
protect their rights and to enforce them (in different ways such as
C&D letters, etc) or they risk losing those rights. You can
look this up on Wikipedia at
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laches_(equity)
Anyhow, the above point is, I'm not saying that Adobe should
sue the company, but they do need to do more to address the issue
with the product than what is apparently being done, and in
reality, it may become a requirement that a suit is commenced,
depending on the outcome of prior efforts.
Anyway, no emotion here. To get emotional, I'll say that I am
pleased with the technologies Adobe has created, especially
Dreamweaver and Flash. The streaming server technologies in itself
is great. I just don't feel that the security technologies have any
weight right now with other technologies readily available to
    people to bypass the security.

  • How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?

Starting with Flash Player 11.3, a protected mode was added as a new security enhancement for Firefox 4.0 and greater on Windows Vista and higher.  This security enhancement is designed to limit the impact of attacks launched from malicious Flash content (SWF files).  For additional details on this feature, please see Inside Flash Player Protected Mode for Firefox
After reviewing this FAQ, we'd appreciate if you would take a minute to let us know if it helped.  There is a link to a two question survey at the bottom of the page.
While we believe this feature is fully tested and reliable, if you encounter issues with Firefox we recommend the following troubleshooting steps.
Problem: Flash content does not appear, YouTube display errors such as "An error occurred.  Please try again later.", or Flash video will not function properly.
Solution: If RealPlayer is installed on your system, please disable the RealPlayer Browser Record plug-in.
    Launch RealPlayer
Click the RealPlayer icon in the upper left corner of the window and choose Preferences.
Choose Download & Recording from the left hand panel
Uncheck "Enable Web Download & Recording for these installed browsers"
    Click OK and close RealPlayer
    Restart Firefox

Problem: RealPlayer is not installed, Flash Player crashes in Firefox
    Solution:
Troubleshoot Extensions and Add-Ons by launching Firefox in Safe Mode
    1. Exit Firefox
    2. Click Start > Run
    3. Type the following then press [Enter]:
         firefox.exe -p
    4. Click Continue in Safe Mode
    5. Attempt to reproduce the problem
If the problem does not occur in safe mode, please try to isolate it down to an individual plug-in.
    1. Exit Firefox
    2. Re-launch Firefox
    3. Click Firefox > Add-Ons > Extensions
    4. Click Disable on all of your extensions
    5. Attempt to reproduce the problem, while enabling each extension until you can reproduce the issue
If the issue persists in Safe-Mode, please continue with the steps below:
Some users have indicated that random crashing stops when clearing their Firefox profile.  This step will allow you to temporarily test with a clean set of Firefox preferences, without losing your preferences.
    Exit Firefox
    Click Start > Run
Type the following then press [Enter]: firefox.exe -p
    Click Create Profile
    Click Next
In the Enter new profile name dialog, type "Test"
    Click Finish
Select Test and click Start Firefox
Use Firefox as normal.  If the problem goes away, clearing your Firefox preferences, or migrating the important settings (bookmarks, etc) to a clean Profile may be a good permanent solution.
If the problem persists, switch back to your old profile by doing the following:
    Exit Firefox
    Click Start > Run
Type the following then press [enter]:firefox.exe –p
Choose your old account (typically "default")
    Click Start Firefox
Solution: Try a clean Windows profile (You must be an Administrator to complete this step.  If your user account is not an admin type, skip to the next section for instructions on reporting a bug.)  Creating a new Windows user will rule out any account-specific preferences that may be enabled on your system.
Create a user account in Vista
Create a user account in Windows 7
Use Flash Player normally.  If the problem goes away, this indicates a compatibility problem, either with software you have installed or with preferences set on your account.
    Reporting a bug:
    Please file bugs at bugbase.adobe.com.
Choose "Adobe Flash Player" as the product
Choose "Browser Integration" as the product area
Please provide as much information as possible with what you were doing before the crash and an exact URL where the crash occurred.
If available, please attach your Firefox crash logs to the bug using the Attachments field.
Show hidden files and folders. For more details, see the instructions for the operating system that you use: Vista and Windows 7.
Crash logs are located at C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\
Logs will be located in either the pending or submitted folder, depending on whether or not you submitted the crash report to Mozilla.
    Last resort
Finally, if these problems are blocking you from using Flash Player we recommend, as a last resort, you either revert back to Flash Player 11.2 or temporarily disable Protected Mode.  We strongly recommend that Protected Mode is manually enabled once this issue is resolved.
To revert to a previous version of Flash Player, please see this FAQ: How do I revert to a previous version of Flash Player?
To disable Protected Mode, add the following line to your mms.cfg file located in:
    Windows 32bit: C:\windows\system32\macromed\flash
    Windows 64bit: C:\windows\syswow64\macromed\flash
    ProtectedMode=0
If the mms.cfg file does not exist, create one using any standard text editor (e.g.. notepad)
Depending on your operating system, you might need to first save the mms.cfg file to a writable location (such as your documents or desktop folder) and then copy the file into the destination folder using Windows Explorer.
To re-enable Protected Mode, simply remove the line from the mms.cfg file.
Hopefully this FAQ helped you.  Please let us know by taking a minute to fill out this simple survey.

  • Wont play protected content

My A-TV won't play any protected content. Anyone else having this problem?

I can stream perfectly well as long as it is stuff that I loaded off a CD or other MP3 file. Anything purchased from Apple won't work. Even when I try to sync instead of stream, it won't load any of the drm protected songs onto A-TV. Everything else works though and since the unit is clearly communicating with the network (because the other songs play etc.) and is operatiing on other songs, there must be some sort of protection communication problem and that's why I'm so concerned about the response from customer service.
