Han unification

I am wondering how Java deals with the issues of Han unification (also known as CJK unification). The basic problem is that a single Unicode character (e.g. U+5203) should be displayed one way in a Japanese locale and a different way in a Korean or Chinese locale.
I am trying to write an applet that supports both Japanese and Korean, where the server can control which language the applet should display via an applet parameter. I am trying to do this using logical fonts if at all possible, since physical fonts vary so much from one platform to another.
I have studied how fontconfig.properties files work (see http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/intl/fontconfig.html), but I was disappointed to find that the sequence lines are interpreted only with initial values. The syntax of these lines is documented as
sequence.allfonts.Encoding.Language.Country=...
but Encoding, Language, and Country are determined by the user's environment, and cannot be overridden programmatically.
All Swing controls already have the concept of locale, so I'm surprised that they don't use it when selecting fonts. I did try calling JComponent.setDefaultLocale in my applet's init() method, but it didn't change the fonts.
Is there a programmatic way of doing this that I have missed?
Is this something that could be slated for version 5.1? It seems to me to be possible without an API change.
If not, what about Mustang?

This code displays a MessageDialog with one Chinese/Japanese/Korean character:
MessageDialog d = new MessageDialog("\u5203");
await d.ShowAsync();
Here you can take a look at how this character should be displayed depending on the language: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Han_unification
(look for "knife edge" in the Wikipeadia page to find it)
On my 3 test computers, always the Japanese variant is displayed (although Chinese is set as primary language for Windows)

  • Adobe Reader language pack mapping

    Hi all, I use Reader 10.1.4 in WIN7. The PDF has many text labels in font type Myriad Pro.
    I have a PDF which allows users to select language of current page, English, simplified Chinese, traditional Chinese, Korean and Japanese.  The text labels of different languages are dynamically generated using scripts in variables.
    Initially, when I change the page from English to simplified Chinese, it should ask me to download simplified Chinese font pack. However, PDF pops up a warning and asks me to download Japanese language support pack. Like this:
    By clicking on OK, it opens the Jp pack download page (http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4881) in the web browser.
    After downloading this pack (it installs 2 files, KozGoPr6N-Medium and KozMinPr6N-Regular in Reader DIR/Resource/CIDFont), I open the PDF and select Chinese again. This time it asks for simplified Chinese language support pack and take me to this page (http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4883).
    Same thing happens when I try to select traditional Chinese. PDF directs me to download JP pack first, and second time direct to CN pack download page.
    If the page is switched to Korean, PDF directs me to the correct Korean pack page.
    I wonder why it goes to download JP, when I only need CN language pack. What is the mapping between the language of my page and the language pack downloaded from Adobe? Is there any way to correct this kind of mis-mapping?
    This is a critical issue, and the client is adamant on it. So I’ll be grateful if you could look into it. If this is indeed an Adobe reader issue, then how can I contact Adobe technical support group?

    I asked before but I don't think you answered, how the languages are made on the page. I'm going to assume the answer is "they are form fields".
    If so, I believe the problem is Han Unification. This, a deliberate part of the design of Unicode, makes it impossible to tell to which language some characters belong. If the FIRST character in a field is a unified han character, Acrobat must guess the language. I think it is especially likely to guess wrong if. Perhaps you could try adding some non-unified character first.

  • "Universal" font

    Hello everybody !!!!
    I'm looking for a font that can handles every type of characters, from the latin alphabet till the cyrillic alphabet via the asiatic alphabets (japanese, chinese, ..). I though that Lucida Grande would do it, but apparently not (when I embed this font on my appli, it doens't display correctly the characters..). With a japanese character I though that I would have manage to find it, but unfortunately the russian is craply displayed (with a huge letter-spacing)
    So do you know if this magic font exist or how to find it ?
    In other case, do you know how to find the character palette on the mac that would list me all the font available on my mac and which alphabet these fonts handle ?
    Or maybe a website with fonts and their cover ?
    Thanks a lot for any help !!!

    You'll need multiple fonts for East Asian languages. Specifically, separate fonts for each of simplified and traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.
    As I wrote just the other day on Typophile, the particularly thorny problem is dealing with the Han unification characters. Basically, for certain East Asian characters, There are slightly (or sometimes very) different designs for certain characters for all these different languages. Currently, the only functional way to distinguish them is to build an OpenType font with the locl (locale) feature, and use apps/OSes that process that feature correctly for those languages.
    Im not sure how widespread such app/OS support is for the locl feature with those languages, outside of InDesign CS3, but I know that such fonts are pretty much non-existent in the wild. AFAIK, thus far such fonts have only been built by mad scientists in labs (pace Adobe's own Dr Lunde & Mr Meyer).
    Because of the potential for great efficiency (space savings), I imagine we will see such fonts in the wild in the future.
    Cheers,
    T

  • Error while creating a BO Universe (using IDT) on top of SAP HANA Calculation View with Input Parameters

    Hi All..
          We are trying to create a Universe (using IDT-Version4.0) on top of the HANA Calculation view. The Calculation view has 4 input parameters, So
    in Universe side we have created the respective prompts. For the creation of derived table we have used the following code
    SELECT *
    FROM "_SYS_BIC"."<schema_name>.<CV_Calculation_View_test>"
    'PLACEHOLDER'=('$$IP_A$$','@Prompt(A)'),
    'PLACEHOLDER'=('$$IP_B$$','@Prompt(B)'),
    'PLACEHOLDER'=('$$IP_C$$','@Prompt(C)'),
    'PLACEHOLDER'=('$$IP_D$$','@Prompt(D)')
    While validating the above code we are getting an error.
    I have attached the snapshot of that error for your reference. Please find the attachment and help me in resolving it.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello George,
    I don't have any personalization set on the info space. Also I am using mapped Account in BI to connect to HANA. The confusing part is that it is able to validate the infospace with the input parameters and index it. However query does not return any results. I even tried running the same query which explorer sends to HANA in the SQL editor and there too the same results,the query does not return anything. The model does return data when I do a data preview and if accessed from other tools like AAO.
    Also when I use SSO connection to HANA, indexing of the infospace fails. Where can I see the error log?
    Thanks,

    I have to create a universe in IDT 4.1 sp2 based on SAP HANA OLAP

    How can i access SAP HANA view which was created using OLAP connection in Business objects Explorer? It does not allow creating Universe on top of SAP HANA OLAP connection and gives an error
    SAP Business Objects query and reporting applications can directly connect to OLAP SAP HANA connections. No universe is required, only a published OLAP SAP HANA connection.

  • Install Software HANA unable to read repository

    Hello,
    I'm new to Eclipse. I'm trying to get up the trial Cloud environment for SAP HANA. I have Eclipse Juno installed. When I attempt to do an install of the HANA software on top of Eclipse I receive error "Unable to read Repository".
    We do not use a proxy, so network was set to "DIRECT". I can get to the SAP site from the browser tools.hana.ondemand.com/luna. I downloaded the certificate for that site and added it to the cacerts file for JDK1.6.0_45.
    The error message in full says:
    Unable to read repository at tools.hana.ondemand.com/luna/content.xml.
    Using the browser, tools.hana.ondemand.com/luna/content.xml returns a 404 error. If I change it to tools.hana.ondemand.com/luna/content.jar, it gives me a download.
    As far as I can tell, there's no way to make Eclipse point to content.jar. Can someone tell me where this is going wrong?
    Thanks.

    Likely the best support for SAP/HANA would come from SAP/HANA.

  • Can not access data generator in HANA SHINE Content

    Hi Expert,
      After import Delivey Unit of SHINE Content, then i was told by the Guide Book that i could use data generator to generate demo data by access URL
    http://<myServer>:<XS Port>/sap/hana/democontent/epm/admin/ui/WebContent/admin.html
    STEP1:I used SYSTEM on the HANA login page
    STEP2:Error 404 refelect
    Does anyone else have encountered this problem?
    Message was edited by: Tom Flanagan

    You might check the repository browser, but I don't believe that URL is correct.  There is no ui or WebContent folder in the path in my system.  Its just /sap/hana/democontent/epm/admin/
    But I suggest checking the folder structure in the Repositories view in your own system to make sure. My system is a new version and could be different than what you are seeing. However this would explain why you are getting the 404.
    Also make sure that SYSTEM has the necessary SHINE admin role added.

    Issue:
    I have SAP BW system and SAP HANA System
    SAP BW to SAP HANA connecting through a DB Connection (named HANA)
    Whenever I created any Open Hub as Destination like DB Table with the help of DB Connection, table will be created at HANA Schema level ( L_F50800_D )
    Executed the Open Hub service without checking DELETING Data from table option
    Data loaded with 16 Records from BW to HANA same
    Second time again executed from BW to HANA now 32 records came ( it is going to append )
    Executed the Open Hub service with checking DELETING Data from table option
    Now am getting short Dump DBIF_RSQL_TABLE_KNOWN getting
    If checking in SAP BW system tio SAP BW system it is working fine ..
    will this option supports through DB Connection or not ?

    Hi Alston,
    I'm sorry for the late reply. Are you still experiencing this error?
    I've seen this issue before with another customer and the final resolution was to make sure the /etc/hosts file does not have the ipv6 BEFORE ipv4. Here is an example:
    >> cat /etc/hosts
    # special IPv6 addresses
    ::1             localhost ipv6-localhost
    ipv6-loopback
    ff02::3         ipv6-allhosts
    192.168.180.31  abceccd01.sap.com abceccd01
    192.168.180.34  abceccs01.sap.com abceccs01
    192.168.180.35  abccrms01.sap.com abccrms01
    192.168.180.30  abceccs01.sap.com abceccs01
    10.36.10.5      abceccs01-nfs.sap.com  abceccs01-nfs
    The resolution would be to change the ordering. So the IPv6 section appears below the IPv4 section.
    After that is done, perform the following to "reset" HLM.
    1. Stop all browsers that have HLM pages open
    2. Stop the Studio
    3. Execute /usr/sap/hlm_bootstraps/<SID>/HLM/stop-hlm.sh –f
    4. Check that there are no any left HLM processes
    5. Go to /usr/sap/hlm_bootstraps/<SID>/HLM/param/
    and rename all files except logging.properties
    6. go to directory: /usr/sap/hlm_bootstraps/<SID>/HLM
    and rename directory persistence
    7 restart SAP Host Agent - as root: /usr/sap/hostctrl/exe/saphostexec
    -restart
    8. open HLM ui via browser:
    https://<hostname>:1129/lmsl/HLM/<SID>/ui/
    I hope this helps.
    Best Regards,
    Jimmy

  • How to load SAP R/3 tables into a schema in SAP HANA Cloud Platform

    Hello, everyone.
    First of all, my apologies for any basic mistakes, I'm new here, so there's a lot of stuff I don't know yet.
    I need to upload some tables to a schema in my HANA trial account to test some algorithms and see if the kind of application I want to build is possible, but I don't know the best way to do this.
    To my understanding, using the Cloud Connector would merely make my tables visible to my application in the cloud, but it would not actually upload them (or rather, I'm sure there's a way to upload them using it, but I suspect there are far simpler methods out there).
    I think one of the simplest possible methods would be to create the schema, open a tunnel using the console client, and to import the tables to the schema via the HANA Studio. Maybe, if that doesn't work, a CMIS repository could be used (although I'm somewhat skeptical, as I think something like this it's not its intended use). Or maybe there's another possibility I'm not seeing. Either way, I would love to hear some answers that could shed some light on this.
    Also, as I mentioned earlier I'm only using a trial account for this, I don't know if there's any limitation that could prevent me from doing this. I'd also like to hear your opinion on this matter.
    Thank you.

    BUDAT is the technical name for Posting Date field. This field is used many DB Tables/ Strucutres. Using where used option you can find the required tables.
    I suggest you to look at BSEG table for Finace Document postings by Posting Date.

  • HANA Analytical View Display Data Issue

    SAP Experts,
    Need your kind help for the below issue,
    I've created an analytical view from a DSO Active Table in HANA Studio. Through IDT (Information Design Tool), when I tried to view the contents of this DSO table (AYPURDA0100) by connecting to HANA, I see the following error which is mentioned below,
    Error:

    Cause of Error:

    Note: The AYPURDA0100 table contents are displayed in HANA Studio. However when a view was created with NO join conditions for the same table with few selected fields including measures, the display data is not working.
    Your views are greatly appreciated. Thank You in advance

  • How to create a RFC destination for extracting data to HANA

    Hello All,
    Could someone help me in providing a document or note on how to create a RFC destination for extracting data from SAP data source to HANA using SAP LT replication server ?
    I am able to create a data base connection while transforming data from non SAP data source,but wasnt able to transform data which is from SAP abap tables .

    Hi Venkatesh,
    In SM59 t.code we create RFC destinations.

  • Are these key fields in 'Direct Update' DSO table in BW on HANA (BW740SP7) correct?

    Pls see below for a very strange behaviour of all active tables of type 'Direct Update' DSO in our system.
    Is this a bug or is this somehow supposed to be like this (i.e. a feature)?
    DSO definition:
    Active table of type 'Column Store' - note fields marked as 'Key' different from DSO definition:
    The DSO table content:
    In ABAP executing the following select on the DSO table:
    The result is garbage (the content of QQQPARST0 lands in /BIC/QQQPAFL0 and QQQSCPRO lands in /BIC/QQQPARA0):

    Dear Sundaresan,
    thanks for this suggestion, but I have posted the question in the following forums:
    SAP Business Warehouse: What is this with the 'Direct' DSO table in BW on HANA (BW740SP7)
    SAP BW powered by HANA: Direct Update DSO keyfields in RSA1 <> SE11 & SELECT returns garbage
    ABAP for SAP HANA: Direct Update DSO keyfields in RSA1 <> SE11 & SELECT returns garbage
    So far no real luck but maybe soon

  • I dont see Roles tab in my hana cloud platform cockpit

    hi All,
    Can anyone help as to why i don't get roles tab in my hana cloud platform cockpit. I have attached the screenshot for your reference.
    thanks,
    Anu

    hi anu
    you can create a sub package for roles in conent->user->data.
    and can create file like user.hdbrole, admin.hdbrole,, etc
    or Go to Services content menu > HCI OData Provisioning > Manage Roles.
