Handeling errors thrown from report viewer ?

Hi,
I am using Crystal reports 2008 (12.0.0.683) for developing windows applications in Visual Studio .Net 2005. I use Crystal viewer ActiveX control in our windows form application for showing the reports.
In my report, in the header part i am using sub reports. When the sub report gets extended too long then on lauching that report it shows me an error message that "page header or footer too long to display".
How can i catch this error in my .net code so that i can show my own custom message instead of this message? Also this error message does not come in the catch part of my try catch block in the .Net code ?
Please Help.
Thanks,
Shyam

Hi Kanchan,
The error which i am getting is not while printin the report through printer, but while previewing the report in my windows form crystal viewer activeX control.
The error it displays is common, it happens when you have a exceptionally large page header/footer. You can try by yourself by creating a report with very big page header more than 20 inches in lenght. when you launch this report in .net viewer then it will display the error message that "page header or footer too large to display". But what i want to know is how to handle this error in my .Net code and how to catch this error in my .Net try catch block. Because i have obseerved this error message gets displayed inside the crystal veiwer control and is not passed to the .Net code. is there any way so that i can suppress this erro and displaying my custom message instead ?
In my report the page header gets extended beyond limit, because of the sub report i have used in the page header.
Any help will be appriciated.
Thanks,
Shyam S

  • CE 10 - Slow printing from Report Viewer in Win Server 2K3

    Post Author: JacobK
    CA Forum: General
    I'm not very familiar with Crystal reports, we are having slowness issues when printing from the web through report viewer in Win2K3.  Recently upgraded from Win 2000 to 2K3.  Same crystal version, CE 10.  On the 2000 system this report printed fine.  Now there is a delay in bringing up the report in viewer and then an extreme delay when printing.  This report prints normally when printing directly from Crystal.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

    OK so I have updated VS 2010 to SP 1, and installed CR2010. Within my project I have updated the referenced .dlls
    CrystalDecision.CrystalReports.Engine
    CrystalDecision.ReportAppServer.ClientDoc
    CrystalDecision.ReportSource
    CrystalDecision.Shared
    CrystalDecision.Web
    I updated the web.config assembly entries to match the new version # (13.0.2000.0) and the app compiles.
    However, now when I try to run a report I receieve the following error...
    An error of type <System.Web.HttpException> occurred
    Error Details: The 'PageToTreeRatio' property cannot be set declaratively.
    I am sure I need to make some code changes but I cannot find this "PageToTreeRatio" attribute anywhere in my .asp code. Is this something you are familiar with? Is this parameter in the report itself?
    As I mentioned before the reports were built in CR10 Deveoper (not in Studio) is that the source of this problem? Will I have to rebuild all the reports in VS2010?
    Thank you for all the help so far, I am a lot closer than I was yesterday!!

  • Memory Full Error in Crystal Reports Viewer

    Environment:
    Windows 7 64 Bit
    Crystal Reports for Visual Studio Version 13.0.13.1597
    SQL Server Database
    Connecting with OLE BD (ADO)
    I am previewing a report in the Crystal Reports Viewer and it instantly returns an error pop-up "Memory Full".  When I run the report in the runtime environment on the same machine everything is fine.  Other reports will run in the viewer.  There seems to be a problem with just this one.  This Report runs on a different machine with the same setup other than it is running 13.0.8.
    I tried upgrading from 13.0.8 to the version above and there was no difference.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,

    Use Modules or ProcessMonitor and compare what is missing between your DEV PC and Runtime Only PC.
    May give you a clue as to what is missing or if it's permissions, DB client or third party dependencies.

  • SSRS exporting to excel from Report Viewer is not respecting boolean critera

    Symptom:
    What's happening is that we are selecting a
    set of criteria eg: start date,  drop down filter and a bit field.
     After running the report against this criteria it comes up in the report viewer with the correct results.
    However after we export the current results to Excel the results in Excel are different because it seems
    that exporting
    re-ran the report without the selected bit field when SSRS should have taken the current run and converted it. This isn't happening on all bit fields either
    which is the oddest part. However all of the bit parameters are setup the same in the RDL.
    We're Loading the report into and rendering it in the Report Viewer control and then leveraging the Report Viewer's Render Routine to export on a button click.
    The result to Excel.
    <asp:imagebutton
    ImageUrl="/Images/excel.png"
    id="btnExportExcel"
    runat="server"
    ToolTip="Export to Formatted Excel"
    Height="20"
    Width="20"
    />
    ...logic to setup the out parameters in the Render routine.
    bytes = ReportViewer1.ServerReport.Render("EXCEL",
    Nothing, mimeType, encoding, extension, streamids, warnings)
    Response.Buffer =
    True
    Response.Clear()
    Response.ContentType = mimeType
    Response.AddHeader("content-disposition",
    "attachment; filename=" & ReportViewer1.ServerReport.ReportPath.Split("/")(2) &
    "." + extension)
    Response.BinaryWrite(bytes)
    Response.Flush()
    Response.End()
    I wanted to know if anyone has seen this odd behavior and if there's situation where the server would re-render the report when exporting to a particular format? I would also like to add that no errors
    came up either.

  • Export and Print icons missing from report viewer

    I'm currently embedding crystal within a wicket application in which I'm making use of the getHtmlContent() method to retrieve the report's HTML.  For whatever reason, I'm not able to get either the export or print icons (on the top left side of the viewer).  Is this because I'm using the getHtmlContent() method or do I have something misconfigured somewhere?  Setting the setHasExportButton(true) and setHasPrintButton(true) on the report viewer object has no effect.
    If I run the same report using the generated JSP outside of my application (within tomcat), I see the export/print buttons.  I notice the JSP makes use of the processHttpRequest() method.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Louis

    Hi Louis
    - The getHtmlContent() method handles the user's request to generate the HTML for the report and returns the HTML as a String.
    Note: Either the getHtmlContent method or the processHttpRequest method can be used to handle the user's request to generate the HTML for the report, depending on how you write your JSP. If the viewer's content is displayed more than once, then the getHtmlContent method is more efficient, because the request is processed once and the resulting HTML string can be used multiple times. In this case, you must set the content type of the HTML, as recommended in the table. Additionally, using getHtmlContent sets setOwnPage to false and disables exporting and printing.
    - The setOwnPage(true) and  processHttpRequest() method should be used if you want the export and print button to appear in the report viewed through Crystal Report Viewer.
    Following is the snippet of code which shows you how to use these 2 methods.
    //Get the IReportSource object from sesion and pass it to the viewer
         IReportSource reportSource = (IReportSource)session.getAttribute("reportSource");
    Create the viewer and render the report -
         //create the CrystalReportViewer object
         CrystalReportViewer oCrystalReportViewer = new CrystalReportViewer();
         //set the reportsource property of the viewer
         oCrystalReportViewer.setReportSource(reportSource);
         //set viewer attributes
         oCrystalReportViewer.setOwnPage(true);
         oCrystalReportViewer.setOwnForm(true);
         //set the CrystalReportViewer print mode
         //oCrystalReportViewer.setPrintMode(CrPrintMode.ACTIVEX);
         oCrystalReportViewer.setPrintMode(CrPrintMode.PDF);
         //process the report
         oCrystalReportViewer.processHttpRequest(request, response, getServletConfig().getServletContext(), null);
    Hope this helps you .
    Thanks

  • Logon Error for Crystal Report Viewed by User When Not Included In App

    I have a Visual Basic 2008 SP1 application and I'm using Crystal Reports 2008 SP0 (with FP1 + 2).  I have about 50 reports using integrated security that are all "embeded resources" in the application.  When I want to print one of these reports I use code like this:
    PrintReports(New MyEmbededReport)
    And in my PrintReports routine it just creates a new instance of a form that has the report viewer control on it and passes the report over to it.  This works GREAT and I can embed all my reports right into the app and call them when I need them.
    Recently however I've had the need to add some custom reports that may change more often then the app changes so I need a way for users to access their reports without a new version of the app being pushed out.  So I made a routine that lets me store the actual Report.rpt file into SQL and when a user goes to run it the report is pulled out of the database and saved into their temporary files and then passes it back to my PrintReports routine as a ReportDocument.  This also works fine but only on my machine.  On the client machines it asks for the login information and no combination will work.  I've tried multiple ways of getting around it and have spent hours trying examples found on the internet including assigning the login information before preview, running through and assigning the login information to each table, I've gone through the "Using Integrated and SQL Autentication in .Net Applications" guide, turning on and off integrated security.  Nothing seems to work.
    What else is there to try?  As a very last resort I will have to store the reports into the app like the other ones but I'm really trying not to do this.
    -Allan

    Just trying to get this working.  My PrintReport routine used to just have the single line to assign the passed report to the report viewer.report source property.  I've changed it to this:
                Dim crtableLogoninfos As New TableLogOnInfos()
                Dim crtableLogoninfo As New TableLogOnInfo()
                Dim crConnectionInfo As New ConnectionInfo()
                Dim CrDatabase As Database
                Dim CrTables As Tables
                Dim CrTable As Table
                'Set the ConnectionInfo properties for logging on tothe Database
                With crConnectionInfo
                    .ServerName = My.Settings.SQLServerName
                    .DatabaseName = My.Settings.MainDatabaseName
                    .IntegratedSecurity = True
                End With
                'This code works for both user tables and stored procedures.
                'Set the CrTables to the Tables collection of the report
                CrDatabase = myReportFileName.Database
                CrTables = CrDatabase.Tables
                'Loop through each table in the report and apply the LogonInfo information
                For Each CrTable In CrTables
                    crtableLogoninfo = CrTable.LogOnInfo
                    crtableLogoninfo.ConnectionInfo = crConnectionInfo
                    CrTable.ApplyLogOnInfo(crtableLogoninfo)
                Next
                'Set the viewer to the report object to be previewed.
                PrintPreview.CrystalReportViewer.ReportSource = myReportFileName
    And I have the exact same issue....my internal reports stored within the app still work fine for everyone but the custom reports made in CR2008 and added as files still do not.
    So out of fustration I added one of the "external" reports into VB 2008 and opened it in there, did a verify database, saved it, and then added it to my SQL server but again same issue....it's like when its off of my computer it "loses" the connection information even though it still shows its there.  Not sure why the reports that are embedded into the app don't have this issue.
    So that gave me another idea.  I took one of the reports that was originally created in VB2008 and took that and put it into the SQL then ran that like the others and IT WORKS.  It creates the temp file on the client PC and runs it from there with no login issues.  Now I'm more confused....any ideas?  I guess I'm going to start recreating the reports I created in CR 2008 and remake them in VS 2008 since those seem to work fine but why should I have to....what would be the difference?

  • Get feedback from report viewer

    We want to get the feedback from java crystal report viewer whether report is printed or not.Simply want to know print button is pressed by the user of print dialog.
    Earlier we got feedback from VB6 viewer from bellow code,
    CrystalReport.PrintingStatus.Progress
    Do we have a method to get this from java viewer.It is a very important feature for us,
    Thanks.

    Recently i found the method printInteractively (..) in ReportPagePrinter class in CrystalReportsRuntime.jar package does not return any thing.
    public void printInteractively(ReportDocument paramReportDocument, String paramString, PrintObserver paramPrintObserver)
        throws PrinterException
        jdMethod_int(paramReportDocument, paramString, paramPrintObserver);
        int[] arrayOfInt1 = new int[1];
        int[] arrayOfInt2 = new int[1];
        ReportPage localReportPage = jdMethod_int(1, arrayOfInt1, arrayOfInt2);
        if (localReportPage == null)
          return;
        this.D = jdMethod_try(localReportPage);
        if (!jdMethod_int(this.v.defaultPage().getPaper(), this.D))
          PageFormat localPageFormat1 = jdMethod_byte(localReportPage);
          PageFormat localPageFormat2 = this.v.pageDialog(localPageFormat1);
          if (localPageFormat2 == localPageFormat1)
            return;
          this.D = localPageFormat2.getPaper();
        if (!this.v.printDialog())
          return;
        this.v.print();
    Why this important feature does not have in java package.Any future release do you expecting to add that ?

  • Can Grow Vertical Alignment Error in Embedded Report View, but not in .PDF

    Hello,
    I have seen postings about this issue before, but have yet to find a solution.
    I am using Visual Studio 2008 w/ the basic version of Crystal Reports that is included.
    I have a simple report that displays results of a stored procedure as rows across the report.  One field can be of variable length, anywhere from 0 to 100 characters.  Usually it's something reasonable (less than 40 chars), and so I have only given it so much width in the report.  For when it is longer than that, I turned the "Can Grow" property ON, and set the Maximum Number of Lines property to 0.
    When the report displays embedded in my Web Form, and this field's data is wider than the space I have allowed, it breaks the data down into multiple lines of the same correct width, as you'd expect, but those lines end up displaced vertically upward several rows, and print directly on top of other data from the above rows, make the report unreadable in that area (and quite ugly overall!).
    If I export this report to a .PDF, it displays perfectly, without the vertical displacement error.
    Anyone know what the official work is on this?  Is there a fix or is this a bug?
    If there is no fix, does anyone know how to direct the report to the .PDF file viewer, so the embedded report remains invisible (and thus hides the ugly error), but the user has the .PDF version to see?  My client ultimately wants to export the report to .PDF, which I have already coded, but it does not open the .PDF Viewer, just saves the report to disk.  However, if I use the Crystal built-in Export button, it first displays a pop-up asking which format to export to, then if .PDF is chosen and okay is clicked, the pop-up switches to contain the .PDF Viewer, and opens the report.  In my user-defined export code, the .PDF is correctly created, but I am missing the step on how to open the .PDF Viewer.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks for the responses.
    Jonathan, moving the field in question to its own details section (details B) did not fix the issue.  The field in question is moved slightly down as its in a new details section with sits slightly lower than details A, but when it has to be broken up into multiple lines, the same issue arises, the field text is displaced vertically upward and sits on top of other data.
    Ludek, I wanted to send the report to a .PDF Viewer in a new browser, and keep the original browser intact.  I'm using code very similar to yours.  To launch the new broswer I added this code to the Page_Load of my main browser:
    btnViewReport.Attributes.Add("onclick", "window.open(Page.aspx', """", """", 'height=200,width=400')")
    When the button is clicked the report is exported, and the new browser opens Page.aspx.
    I use this code in Page_Load of Page.aspx:
            Dim webClient As System.Net.WebClient = New System.Net.WebClient()
            Dim buffer As Byte() = webClient.DownloadData("C:\Reports\Report.pdf")
            If Not buffer.Length.Equals(0) Then
                Response.ContentType = "application/pdf"
                Response.AddHeader("content-length", buffer.Length.ToString())
                Response.BinaryWrite(buffer)
            End If
    Any other ideas on the original vertical displacement issue when using Can Grow, I'd still appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Scott

  • Getting syntax error in Crystal Report Viewer

    The web application that I am supporting has reports that are presented through CR Viewer. The problem that I am facing is that if I pass a value to get the report, its giving the following error.
    The syntax of the value of prompt 'name_of_paramente_passing' is incorrect. Please check the syntax and try again.
    I am not getting this error if I run the same report through the actual Crystal report program.
    So when I pass 123.1 to the crystal web viewer it wont give me any trouble. But If I pass 123.1(a) , it throws that error.
    somehow the combination of pareanthesis and the alphabet is causing some trouble....
    Is this a bug or some other problem.?
    Version that I have:
    Crystal Report web Viewer Control 11.5
    Crystal Developer 11.0.0.1282
    Please reply if you have any work around for this.
    Thank you,
    Santhosh

    Thanks Mohammed. But our application is trying to pass a parameter which contains user data like section numbers....
    So when we pass the value 123.1(a) , here what is happening behind the scene of CR viewer
    webSource0.AddParameter "promptex-NAMEOFPARAMETER", "123.1%28a%29"
    and it throws up the error
    "The syntax of the value for prompt 'NAMEOFPARAMETER' is incorrect. Please correct the syntax and try again"
    I have no idea why it is throwing up this errror....

  • Error messages from Discoverer viewer in others languages (Greek)

    Hi, I'm using Discoverer Viewer 10g and I set the browser in order to see only Greek language.
    When I don't write a mandatory parameter into the initial parameter form I receive an error message as
    "parameters required for TASKS_CREATE_DATE_LL" (in English)
    where TASKS_CREATE_DATE_LL is the parameter requested.
    While for the LOV parameters the error message is written correctly in Greek (and shown into a form from the browser), for the normal parameter, as above, the error message is ONLY in English and written just under the parameter text box....
    Is there a way to show these errors also in Greek (always under the parameter text box) ?
    I also checked the pref.txt, but I didn't found nothing to set a language...
    Thanks in advance for your help
    Alessandro

    The application.log file, under the OC4J which running your Discoverer provider, should give you some hints about the problem you're facing.

    Hi Experts,
    I'm getting an error when trying to generate a report in SAP LVS.

    How do I resolve this? Anyone encountered this error?

    Hi,
    It seems that the audit log mechanism is activated, at your system. But, if you didn't set the parameter DIR_AUDIT, audit log will be created under "/usr/sap/<SID>/<instance>/log", not "data" folder. You can check its default value on RZ11. Revise the parameters, below;
    DIR_AUDIT = <path>
    FN_AUDIT = audit_++++++++.AUD
    rsau/enable = 1
    rsau/max_diskspace/local = <SizeOfFile>

    Update:
    IIS is7.5, AppPool is Integrated.
    I have tried below, none of them works:
    1) Add it only to system.web\httpHanders. Changed AppPool to classic, still got hidden error.
    2) Add it only to system.webServer\handlers. Integrated mode,still got hidden error.
    3) Add both to both element. Integrated mode, still got hidden error.

    Hi Kingofwebguru,
    According to your description, when you use reportviewer control, you got the error message: The Report Viewer Web Control HTTP Handler has not been registered in the application's web.config file.
    To troubleshoot the problem, please refer to the following steps:
    Click Start, click Run, then type InetMgr.exe and click OK.
    Click plus sign next to server name to expand it.
    Click Application Pools in left pane.
    In Application Pools list, click DefaultAppPool.
    In the Actions pane, in Edit Application Pool section, click Edit Settings to check the Pipeline mode.
    Configuration settings for the HTTP handlers are specified in the system.web/httpHandlers element and the system.webServer/handlers element. of your application Web.config file. The handler specified in system.web/httpHandler is used by Internet Information
    Services (IIS) 6.0 or IIS 7.0 in Classic mode, whereas the handler specified in system.webServer/handlers is used by IIS 7.0 in Integrated mode. To use IIS 7.0 in Integrated mode, you must remove the HTTP handler in system.web/httpHandlers. Otherwise, IIS
    will not run the application, but will display an error message instead.

  • Report viewer 2010 show blank page (with params loaded)

    Hi,
    I have an infrastructure RS with a web server with an ASP.NET application with Report Viewer and a second server with an installation of RS 2008 R2.
    My web application (ASP.NET in C #) uses the ReportViewer 2010 component to show the report.
    I use windows authentication and log onto the Web Service on Report Server with a M2M user on the RS server.
    The trouble is that the rendering of the report fails and the body of the report remains WHITE. However the .aspx page is displayed without errors and control report viewer loads the parameters even if you can not select.
    Report manager render correctly reports  also from the web server.
    The same solution work fine if deployed on Single Server.
    The machines are under firewall. The Report Server service run on 80 port.  It should open more doors between the two servers?
    Can anyone help? Thank You.

    Hi theorangejuice,
    According to your description, you configure a ReportViewer control in remote mode to display a published report. When running the application, report displays blank and parameters can’t be selected.
    As we tested in our environment, report can display correctly when using ReportViewer control in remote mode, and parameters also can be selected. In your scenario, please make sure the report can display correctly on remote report server. And try to click
    refresh button on application to check if report can display correctly. Regarding our test results, please refer to steps below:
    1. Add port 1433 and 80 under windows firewall on remote server.
    2. Create a new windows application project, then add a ReportViewer control to the application.
    3. Configure the ReportViewer control for remote processing.
    4. Build and run the application.
