Handling "license agreements" from commercial pack

Can someone point me to an existing package that handles a license agreement?  I'm trying to figure out the proper procedure if a user "does not accept" the agreement.  What to do?  "Pacman -R foo" after it's already installed? Not that it's an issue for me, but I was going to post the PKGBUILD for others that may be interested.

Part of Nvidia's license:
2.1.2  Linux/FreeBSD Exception.  Notwithstanding the foregoing terms
of Section 2.1.1, SOFTWARE designed exclusively for use on the Linux or
FreeBSD operating systems, or other operating systems derived from the
source code to these operating systems, may be copied and redistributed,
provided that the binary files thereof are not modified in any way
(except for unzipping of compressed files).
So no. It's the difference between a license and a contract. You never need to explicitly agree with a license as you need to comply to it anyway. A license gives you a right which you don't have by default. GPL will never become a contract and will stay a license, so it will never be needed to sign/click anything. If it happens anyway (the "what if"), then we have much more important things to worry about than this. ;-)
The license field is mostly informational, so that you know what you install. You can change Pacman and so on to make it interactive and supporting such EULA packages, but IMHO that's wasted time, as is making packages for such apps. It's the company making A who's responsible for the distribution if it adds an EULA or hampers the distribution in any other way. It's only fair, they caused the problems, they may fix it. Or you can make it easy for them and support their apps.
If you really want to make a package of A then do so, but you don't need to change Pacman for that, you can just make a first time run script which prompts with the EULA and keep Pacman as it is. If you need to agree with the EULA before downloading then you may not make a package anyway.

  • Anyone know how to sign the licensing agreement from a Dell Netbook?

The screen is too small to get to the bottom of the page and click "agree". I've also tried highlighting and scrolling and it still won't go to the bottom of the page.   Thanks.

I too am having the same problem when logging into www.webkinz.com
To play the game, for which you need an account you have to be able to see the bottom of the page where all the tabs etc are. I have even tried reducing the percent of the page view on Internet Explorer in the bottom right corner and all that does is give me a cut off view of what I want to see, The tabs are cut off. Is there any way to add a scroll bar or something so I can play games on my Dell Inspiron Mini Netbook 10v? I also aready changed the screen resolution to try and reduce the size as well and that has not helped to see the bottom of the page.

  • Acrobat SDK License Agreement Question

The following is a section of the latest Acrobat SDK License Agreement from the Adobe website:
"3.2  Development Restrictions.  You agree that You will not Use the Software to create, develop or use any program, software or service which . . . (b) can both (i) communicate with Adobe Reader Products and (ii) modify or save a PDF (Portable Document Format) document (including saving any modifications to a separate file for such documents);"
Does this mean that I am NOT allowed to develop a program that both:
Interfaces with Adobe Reader/Acrobat via the Acrobat SDK for PDF viewing purposes and
Builds and modifies PDF's using third party component(s)?
If the answer to the previous question is "YES", that means I can only use the Acrobat SDK in a program that is limited to PDF viewing and printing as far as PDF issues are concerned.  That would be very restrictive for a real world application that involves PDF's, especially when I am supposed to "add significant and primary functionality" as the license aggreement also states.

How do I go about contacting "Adobe Legal"?
Also, just to clarify our discussion on some subtle but important points . . .
I understand that Adobe Reader is just that, a read-only application.  And, I understand that the Adobe solution for modifying PDF's is Adobe Acrobat.  I have components from 3rd parties that let me programatically modify PDF's.  So, from a strictly programming tools point of view, I don't need Acrobat to modify PDF's in my application.  The 3rd party components handle the PDF modification tasks.  I'm not trying to use the Acrobat SDK to modify PDF's, but rather only to view PDF's.
    So, when you say:
"You can NOT use Reader to view PDF documents as part of a software solution that also modifies the PDF using some other technology"
    Do you mean:
It is your understanding that using the Acrobat SDK for PDF viewing and 3rd party components for PDF modification in the same application constitutes a violation of the Acrobat SDK License Agreement?
    And when you say:
"Acrobat, however, does not have this limitation"
    Do you mean:
Adobe requires licensed Acrobat to be used for PDF modification in any application that uses Acrobat SDK for PDF viewing?  (In other words, PDF modification is where Adobe wants to make a profit.)
    Thanks for your input.

  • Updating RE: License Agreement needs to be accepted, but not an admin

    Hi all,
I deploy the Java RE to a number of Windows XP clients via wpkg (http://wpkg.org/Java#JRE_without_Java_Quick_Starter_on_32-bit_hosts) because an Java Web Start application named EGVP [1] should be used on the clients. The author of this application says that it has to be installed (i. e. started once) with administrative privileges, what I've done (manually) and all works fine.
A problem occurs when wpkg updates the Java RE (e. g. from 1.6.19 to 1.6.20 this week): If the "normal" user without admin privileges starts its EGVP application after the update is performed, he/she is asked to accept the license agreement from Sun/Oracle for the Java RE. If you click on "Yes" there, an error message says that it needs administrative rights to save the changes?!
As a quick&dirty workaround, I changed the folder security permissions for \Program Files\Java\jre6 so that the user group has full access to it, this solves the problem temporarily, but is not a real solution, I guess ;-) Furthermore, the next Java RE update via wpkg removes and re-creates the folder by uninstalling the old and installing the new Java version, so that my permissions are lost then (thankfully, it should not be a permanent condition).
So my question is: Has any of you a similar problem or any idea how to solve this? I could try to set the folder permissions after an update via wpkg, too, but I don't think that's a good idea.
I hope that any of you has an idea how to deal with this!
    Thanks in advance,
    -Phil

  • I purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements 13 from Amazon.  It has been installed successfully.  However, when it comes up asking me to Accept the Licensing Agreement it continues to loop back to that screen.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it but s

I had previously purchased a DVD disk from Amazon.  I did get the program to install today.  However it continues to loop back to the screen where you accept the licensing agreement.  I had lost the previous serial number and was given a new one by Adobe.
After trying over and over again to install the version from their download, I purchased a new copy from Amazon.  I am still getting the same loop on the software where it asks you to Accept the Licensing Agreement.  Short of reformatting my hard drive and starting with a clean PC, I have no idea what to try.  Is the previous software installed somewhere?  I had uninstalled it prior to downloading and installing the new software.  Any help is appreciated!

I'm going to try reinstalling Windows 7 and installing the software that way.  I've reinstalled it before so am not concerned about taking that step.  If I need further assistance, I'll add a reply.  Thanks!

  • XE OTN license agreement unclear for commercial web applications

XE is said to be free to use in commercial applications.. Even as a back end db for web applications in the same way as "open source databases"...
How about the OTN license part stating
"(a) purposes of developing, prototyping and running your applications for your own internal data processing operations;".
With this in mind, would it be allowed to create a web application where our customers can login and view data we feel is fitting for their needs, and even manipulate some of that data?
Is this "internal data processing" as in our company and how we internally conduct business and collaborations with our customers... or is this stretching the OTN license agreement to far?

"it is allowed only when using Oracle Standard Edition (not One)"
This makes me a bit suspicious that he is just after sales revenue.
Their new move to cloud computing includes Amazon Machine Images covering Enterprise, Standard, Standard One and Express Editions.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/cloud/index.html
    The Licensing FAQ explicitly mentions
"Under cloud computing, Oracle Standard Edition One may only be licensed on EC2 instances up to 8 virtual cores."
I'm not clear where your application sits in relation to your database.
If the database is not directly accessible to the internet (ie you are not giving them SQL access), then the user is interacting with the application, and the database is 'internal' to your company. Generally you have a firewall to make sure it is internal.
If you are using XE's default Apex as the application, the situation may be different as they are interacting directly with a component of XE.
If you are using an updated Apex, you'll be guided by the license on that, which is slightly different to the XE and standard OTN license. A careful reading of the license indicates that you are only licensed to install it either on a paid-for Oracle db, or for development, though Oracle have documented and coded it to be installed on XE.

  • On the Oracle XE BETA Trial License agreement

    Hi all,
I've got a question concerning the Oracle XE BETA Trial license (I'm referring to the document behind the "License Agreement" link in the "links" pane on the right top of the database home page)
I understand that the Oracle XE Beta License grants permission to use the product for evaluation purposes. I also understand that the license is for a limited period of time (one month) only. The things I'm not really clear on are these:
    1) the license states that "You may not use the Software for any commercial or production purpose". What exactly constitutes commercial usage? For example, if I were to provide some business service, and want to allow my customers to enter a restricted or otherwise inaccessible web site powered by Oracle XE, Is that commercial usage? After all, people have to pay before they can access the site altough they are not paying for the database - they are paying for my content.
Also, I though I understood from Tom's podcast that you can redistribute Oracle XE in an embedded form - Does this mean I can't charge money for my own product once I embed Oracle XE?
    2) will the production version have the same limitations regarding commercial usage of the database? What about the limited period of time?
    Any replies are greatly appreciated.
    kind regards
    Roland

    Tom,
thanks for the quick reply. I did browse around the forum pages, but no luck. Of course, I didn't do the obvious and hit the search button - my bad, truly sorry.
I already gathered the production release is planned for the end of februari: great news!
Just to be totally clear on this: does 'production environment' mean that I can legally charge my customers money for use of a web-application powered by XE?

  • Using definition in orcale binary code license agreement

using definition in oracle binary code license agreement for java se platform products:
    G. COMMERCIAL FEATURES NOTICE. For purpose of complying with Supplemental Term Section C.(v)(b) and D.(v)(b), your license agreement shall include the following notice, where the notice is displayed in a manner that anyone using the Software will see the notice:
Use of the Commercial Features for any commercial or production purpose requires a separate license from Oracle. “Commercial Features” means those features identified Table 1-1 (Commercial Features In Java SE Product Editions) of the Software documentation accessible at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/documentation/index.html

thanks for your comment. please can you help me to find the correct forum.
perhaps as oracle employee you can put it there?

  • Adobe Exchange License Agreement

Sorry if this has been discussed before but since this terrible forum with it's unusable "search" functionality wasted a minute of my time already, I gave up on search.
The license agreement (on the upload page after clicking the button on the provided link) says:
You hereby grant to Adobe a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free and worldwide license to use, test, copy, publicly display, publicly perform or demonstrate the Submission (and any graphics or snapshots of the Submission or any part thereof), and, as designated as part of your Submission: (a) distribute, license, and sublicense the Submission, or (b) place a link to a website in connection with the Submission.
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/upload/index.cfm
So basically Adobe owns anything you upload, including "commercial" stuff like Adobe Flex custom components you might be selling, and so on?  So it seems to me that (in this example) anything you upload could suddenly end up in the next version of the Flex SDK with not even an poorly written, automated "thanks" email sent to the contributor?
Is this about right?  Just curious..

I would like to think that Adobe (as a company) would do the responsible thing and contact the author of anything posted to the exchange prior to including it in one of their products or distributing it to a 3rd party. After all they have to recognize that there are individuals who sell their brushes, custom shapes, templates, etc on the exchange. My guess is that some lawyer at Adobe thought it should be written like that to protect Adobe from false claims of intellectual property infringement and also to provide a "legal" way of not compensating people for their ideas, creations and work. Hmmmm....something to think about. I would love to hear what an Adobe representative has to say about this though. Any takers out there Adobe?

  • IE10 Windows7 - iTunes opens maybe 3 times and then it thinks i am a new user.  I ge the license agreement again.  Apple SR Techs cannot figure it out.  Does this have to do with IE10?

Windows 7 - installed IE10.  Now every few times iTunes is opened I get the 'user license' agreement as if i am a new user.  Apple SR techs have been working with me for weeks and have NOT solved this problem.  i have a iPhone 4S, but this happens before I even plug in.  Can you help?  Also, second question:
Also, I have two apple accounts (mistake) and apple says that they cannot delete the invalid one!  When I finally can get on iTunes it asks if I want to merge or replace - I am told to do neither (i am syncing by plugging in the 4S to my computer - i have Outlook).  SO... right now i am unable to sync.  SR Tech says having the 2 accounts is not the problem - actually - 2 techs said it was and 1 says it is not.  SO frustrating!  Is there a way to resolve this?
    Thanks - CJ Texas

McAfee AntiVirus by any chance? See the thread Why does iTunes delete my itunesprefs.xml?
Not so sure about the suplemental question, but see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for tips to make sure you don't lose content from the device.

Now, when I go to open any of the programs, i.e. photoshop I am asked to accept the license agreement, which I do.  I am then asked for my serial number which I provide and I get the little green check mark.  When I click on continue it loops me back to the license agreement. It keeps looping and I cannot access any of the programs.
I then installed Adobe Acrobat 9.3.  When I attempt access the program I received the following error message "you cannot use this produce at this time, you must repair the problem by uninstalling and reinstalling this product."
Honestly I have never had so many problems installing any product.  To top it off Adobe does not offer any technical support on the weekends.  I've been fighting all weekend with this product when I need to get assignments done.  I'm truly at my wits end.  If anyone out there has experienced similar issues I would so appreciate hearing from you and anything you did to resolve them.

It sounds like you had a bad disk which is rare but hey it happens.  Here's what I would do.
Deactivate the software (assuming you can launch an application)
    Uninstall everything
Run the Adobe CS5 Clean Tool - http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs5clean.html
Optional Paranoid steps - restart the PC, run the CS5 clean tool again to verify there is nothing (Adobe MC5 anyway) on your system
    Restart the PC
Make sure any and all anti-virus and anything you can turn off is off.
    Install Master Collection as before.
I hope this helps and I'm sorry that you're experiencing some problems.  If the above doesn't work, I'd consider requesting new media to install your software on.
    Best,
