Handling multiple instances in oracle

Hi all ,
How can I find which shared memory / semaphore memory is running for which instance when I am handling multiple instances in oracle.
Thanks in advance

  • How to use multiple instances in Oracle CRM On Demand

    Hi,
Just wanted to know if we can have multiple instances in Oracle CRM On Demand? Our company has bought licenses for Oracle CRM On demand and have received a single link for the development / staging, but we have two seperate business units that will be using this systems and their processes are completely different....I thing i wanted to ask is if we can have a sub system within a big system without both interfering into each others processes.
    I hope it makes sense.
    Thanks
    Ahmed

    Hi Ahmed,
This might be quite possible. Again, it depends on the organizational and technical complexity of both these BU's.
    1. There can be different processes in different geographies in which your application might be used. Inorder to achieve this in a single instance of CRM On Demand.
There can be some fields that are specific to certain region, in that case you can use Roles, Access Profiles, Dynamic Layouts to change the Fields of the layouts which will allow the user to enter/read information specific to only that user.
    2. Workflows can be used to trigger an event only for users in certain BU defined in your application.
Also the Sales Process is specific to a Role and by configuring them correctly you can make these processes fit your requirements.
    3. There are somethings that always remain the same though, like Accounts, Contacts , other entities and the pre-defined relationships, their names. Off-course these can be modified but when modified they apply through the applications. So you won't be able to have different names to the Account entity in the Major BU and the subset BU.
I would suggest you get in touch with Oracle Expert Services if you are looking to get more details on how you can make best out of a single instance.
    Good Luck!

  • Essentials to set up multiple instances in oracle 9i rel2

    Hi,
Kindly show me the essentails required to setup multiple instances in Oracle 9i rel2.
in another words, i would like to create two schema/users in the same name in oracle. One schema will be used to do software testing and another used as either backup or online database.
    Thanks
    SCIL

Could you please look into the problem in detail.
    1.     I have a production database in the schema scil_eu.
    2.     I would like to host a test database in the same machine.
    3.     So what would be the schema name for this test database?
    4.     If I use, scil_eu, it will not allow since it is duplicated.
    5.     If I use a different name, like scil_test, then the following objects – indexes, triggers and etc would still be created in the online schema ie. Scil_eu.
    Please sugest a solution.

  • Multiple instances in Oracle 9i

    Hi All!
In Oracle 9i, if I have 2 databases on the same server, does that mean I have 2 different instances , one for each database, OR the concept of multiple instances is only in te parallel server?

I suppose it depends on your definition of the terminology.
Here is Oracle's definition of each:
Instance: Consists of the SGA Memory structure and background processes used to manage a database. An instance is identified byusign methods specific to each operating system. The instance can open and use only one database at a time.
Database: An Oracle database is a collection of data that is treated as a unit. The general purpose of a database is to store and retrieve related information. The database has a logical structure and a physical structure. The physical structure of the database is the set of operating syste files in the database. An Oracle database consists of three files types: Data files, Redo Logs, Control Files. (note: parameter file, password file, and archive logs are not considered part of the database)
So to answer your questions, if you have two separate Oracle instances on your machine, I would say you have both two instances and two databases.

  • How to Handle Multiple Instances of Page

    Hello All,
I'm developing a new page in a Statefull BSP Application.
The Page is developed using View and Controller.
Controller has an instance of a Business Object. Business Object contains the Business Logic.
Everything works untill user opens a single Window, But when user Right Click the Tree link and open another Instance of the same page, then the problm starts.
In this case Both instances of the page are in the same Internal Session, Hence they share the same instance of the Business Object. Hence the Systems behaves unpredictabily.
Can anybody give me some hints to get rid of this issue?
    Thanks & Regards
    Geogy

    Hi Vijay,
Thanks for the reply, But that's not the right aproach.
I cannot change the application to stateless, Since the standard application where the page resides is statefull.
Also some of the business logic I cannot achive with stateless application

  • XI-Multiple instance scenario -File & SQL sender communication channels

    Hi
i have a basic question regarding how file sender communication channel ( where we poll for a particular file pattern either using file/ftp types in a particular subfolder ) or a sql sender communication channel - ( selecting records from a sql source ) would work in a scenario with two active XI instances and j2EE file and sql adapter services running on both of the J2EE servers ?
    1. How would the file polling from both J2EE servers - avoid a conflict looking for the same file pattern ? Is there any inbuilt mechanism from SAP to make multiple instances work with the file polling - without a confict ?
    2. Simlar question for SQL sender type communication channel ?
If SAP does have a mechanism to handle multiple instance scenarios for file and sql sender adapter based communication channels, is there a link/document on this ?

    Hi Karthik,
    Please see my comments.
I am just wondering aloud - what will happen if we use a select for update clause in the sql sender adapter communication channel -
Gouri: Yes you can use select + update. In fact that is the right way.
will this ensure that polling from one J2EE instance will lock the selected records so that the second instance does not select the same set of records from the sql server ? Or should we not use a select for update and use a simple select statement ?
Gouri: Yes. SQL DB will ensure that same data will not be picked by another node. As I mentioned earlier use serilizable option from advanced mode.

  • Running multiple instances of program at same time problems

I have a c++ program that uses BerkeleyDB 4.8.26 with transactions. Program works well, and I can run multiple instances of program and they cooperate on database very well. Problem arises when I run a small test program that runs 10 instances of the same program at same time.
Test program opens database with transactions, it does some database reads and writes and quits. This test is run in 10 instances of the same program at the same time. Some instances run and finish well, other instances end up with some of these errors:
unable to allocate memory for the lock table
    PANIC: Cannot allocate memory
Error opening environment: DB_RUNRECOVERY: Fatal error, run database recovery
    another with:
db_files/__db.001: No such file or directory
db_files: No such file or directory
    Error opening environment: Invalid argument
    others with this one:
Log file corrupt at LSN: [1][84474]
    fileops: close db_files/log.0000000001
    PANIC: Invalid argument
    unable to join the environment
db_files: No such file or directory
Error opening environment: DB_RUNRECOVERY: Fatal error, run database recovery
I don't understand reason of this error, as I thought (and read) that BerkeleyDB should be able to handle multiple instances accessing database and is thread-safe.
I tried to run the test on both NFS and local disk drive with same results.
Is there anyone with ide what could be causing this problem ? My platform is x86_64 GNU/Linux 2.6.18-164.el5

If there is someone who would like to look at this problem I'd like to show you program log files with verbose output turned on. There are 11 log files in the archive: http://bin.mypage.sk/FILES/log.rar
Log files that end up with lines like this one below mean that program finished running ok:

  • I want to launch multiple instances of JVM

    hi guys,
When I go to a games room, the applet starts up and then a JVM is launched and it is visible in taskbar. If I click on another game room, the virtual machine launches another applet and the first one is destroyed, but thats no good to me, cos I want to have both applets running at the same time. I can achieve this by running one room from IE and another from Firefox, but is there a way to launch all from IE only, cos if I run both Firefox and IE it starts screwing up with my machine. So basically, I want to be able to run many instances of JVM.
    Thanks.

That's odd, because one instance of the JVM should be
able to handle multiple instances even of the same
applet. Are you opening them in separate windows?no, in the same browser window...what happens is that when you click on a room, the previous window in whivh the applet was running is destrpyed and a new one is created

  • OBIEE 10g multiple instances of scheduler

    Hello,
I have server with multiple instances of Oracle BI: one Oracle BI Server with two different RPDs and two Presentation services with different web catalogs. Customer wants to run Oracle Delivers on both instances of Oracle BI. I tried setup 2 instances of scheduler but faced with a problem that I can't pass to scheduler which config file (instanceconfig.xml) to use.
Can you help with solution how to run multiple schedulers with different configurations on one server?
    Thanks in advance,
    Vladimir

If I'm not wrong, this wont work. Scheduler instanceconfig.xml file will be override based on Scheduler settings using each RPD file.

  • How to Patch Multiple Instances on same oracle home

    Hi All
I Have 4 Instances running on server like below
    DEVSTAG /opt/oracle/product/10.2.0
    DEVUAT /opt/oracle/product/10.2.0
    DEVREVT /opt/oracle/product/10.2.0
    DEVREG /opt/oracle/product/11.2.0
i want to Apply the patch set 11.1.0.7.1 to DEVUAT & DEVREVT Instances , Can someone please help .. i dont want this patch set applied to DEVSTAG Instance .. how to exclude that Instance from getting patched ?
Thanks in advance .. hope my requirement is clear.

Which patch are you referring to ? The database patching tool (opatch) generally applies any database patch to an ORACLE_HOME. You will need to follow the instructions in the README of the patch. If you need to only patch one instance, then you will have to create a dedicated ORACLE_HOME for each database (i.e they will not share database executables). If you share ORACLE_HOME amongst multiple instances, then you will have to patch all of them simultaneously.

These questions show a certain lack of knowledge about Oracle - which immediately says that you also do not know what you are doing ito performance and scalability of a Oracle and that server platform by running multiple instances on it.
In most case, running multiple instances is the wrong thing to do. It degrades performance. It does not and cannot scale. It is an exception to the basic fundamentals of client-server. And not just for Oracle.
You need sound technical justification for running multiple instances on a server. What is yours?

  • In Oracle 9 Application Server can we create multiple instances???

Hi I need one help this is regarding to the oracle 9 application server in this can we create the multiple instances??
my application was already developed and currently it is working with one instance for this i need to create the another one more instance which is same as existing and my application is web application developed in Forms6i and the db is oracle 9i my requirement is to create one more instance what are all the configuration files need to be modified and please give this info ASAP....

It is still not very clear. What do you mean by creating "one more instance of the same application in the same application server"? By "application" do you mean another instance of OC4J in same Application Server Instance? If yes, you can do that. I mean you can create another OC4J component in same Application Server Instance without doing another installation. Refer this for details:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/A97329_03/core.902/a92171/config.htm#1010793
If you are looking to create another Application Server Instance out of same installation/binaries (i.e. Oracle Home) than the answer is no. You can not create multiple Application Server Instances out of one Oracle Home. You will have to do another installation in a different Oracle Home and that's how you will get another Application Server Instance.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can we have Multiple Instance on same Node in Oracle 10g RAC

    Hi All,
I am planning to implement the RAC in Oracle 10g.Before that i have one doubt regarding RAC.
My question is "Can we create multiple Instance on Same node(Server) ?"
    is it possible.
Any ideas or thoughts would be apperciable.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Anwar

This is where it is important to keep the separation between 'database' and 'instance'.
A database is the set of files that contains the data (and the redo, control files, etc). A database does nothing by itself, other than take up lots of disk space.
An instance is theCPU cycles (running software) and the memory to control the database.
In Oracle RAC, you can have as many instances controlling one database [at the same time] as you want (within reason). Each instance must be able to access the disk(s) that contains the database.
These multiple instances can be on the same computer (effectively taking up a lot of server memory and CPU for nothing) or they can be on separate computers.
If they are on separate computers, the disk subsystems must be able to be shared across computers - this is occasionally done using operating system clusterware and is the main reason why clusterware is required at all. (This is also the toughest part of the pre-requisites in setting up a RAC and is very vendor dependent unless you use ASM.)
These instances need a communication connection to coordinate their work (usually a separate network card for each computer) so they do not corrupt the disk when they are trying to access the same file, and possibly the same block, at the same time.
In a RAC configuration, instances can be added, started, running, stopped and removed independent of each other (allowing a lot of high availability) or can be started and stopped as a group.
Each instance gets it's own SID, which is in no way any different than a non-RAC SID. It's just the name of a service that can be invoked. The neat thing is that the SID
    a) helps the DBA keep things straight by lettiung us talk about 'instance A' (the Oracle software to be running over on computer A) vs 'instance B' when starting, stopping and managing;
    b) helps the application by providing targets that can be listed in the TNSNAMES.ORA [against one service alias], which is used by ORacle Networking to provide automated load balance or failover (instance/SID a is not available, I guess I'll try the next in the list)
Hope that helps the concept level a bit.
