Handling/passing Java exceptions to JavaFX

My Java class has a try/catch statement indicating a communication error to MySQL server. I want to add a user-friendly dialog box in my JavaFX application in the event my java class cannot access the database.
What's the best way of handling Java exceptions within JavaFX?
Cheers!

  • Handling apllication java.Exceptions

    I've developed an Weblogic WebService Application with several webservices inside.
    They are working fine but when a WebService throws a java Exception this exception is putted inside a SoapFaultException.
    After some research I figured that I should create my own Exceptions that inherits from SoapFaultException to best format the exception message
    my clients will receive, ok it is done and it's working. Now I need to handle all java Exceptions (witch were not throw by me) to put it in my own Exceptions witch inherits from soapFaultException. Does anybody know if I can implement an Exception handler that will capture all java Exceptions unhandled by my applicatio.
    I'm using WLS 9.2.

  • Is there a way to handle custom java exception in OSB?

    For example, i created a exception that extends RuntimeException.
    My exception has a new field called "code".
    I want to handle this exception in Oracle Service Bus process and retrieve this code to throws another exception with a XML structure that includes the code.
    Is there a way to do that ?

    Hi Sandro,
    I've got the same situation. I agree that returning xml from function is not a best choice as you have to manually check if return status is an error or not. Processing exception in error handler is better and this is how I do it:
    I am doing a java callout to a function that can throw exception. Then I add ErrorHandler to stage containing this callout (all the exception are caught here).
    In the error handler I check if $fault/ctx:java-exception is not null. If not then I pass thrown exception to my utility function that converts it to xml similar to yours:
    import org.apache.xmlbeans.XmlException;
    import org.apache.xmlbeans.XmlObject;
    public static XmlObject exceptionToXML(Throwable exception)
      throws XmlException {
      String xmlString = exceptionToString(exception);
      return XmlObject.Factory.parse(xmlString);
    public static String exceptionToString(Throwable exception) {
      String cause = "";
      if (exception.getCause() != null) {
      cause = exceptionToString(exception.getCause());
      return String
      .format("<exception><name>%s</name><description>%s</description>%s</exception>",
      exception.getClass().getName(), exception.getMessage(),
      cause);
    Calling exceptionToXML with $fault/ctx:java-exception/ctx:java-content returns:
    <exception>
         <name>pl.app.MyException</name>
         <description>Exception message</description>
    </exception>
    Then you can check the exception class (IF action: $exception/name/text() = "pl.app.MyException") and handle it accordingly.
    Good luck,

  • How to pass Objects from Java App to JavaFX Application

    Hello,
    New to the JavaFX. I have a Java Swing Application. I am trying to use the TreeViewer in JavaFX since it seems to be a bit better to use and less confusing.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks
    I have my Java app calling my treeviewer JavaFX as
    -- Java Application --
    public class EPMFrame extends JFrame {
    Customer _custObj
    private void categoryAction(ActionEvent e)   // method called by Toolbar
            ocsCategoryViewer ocsFX;    //javaFX treeviewer
            ocsFX = new ocsCategoryViewer();    // need to pass in the Customer Object to this Not seeing how to do it.
                                                  // tried ocsFX = new ocsCategoryViewer(_custObj) ;    nothing happened even when set this as a string with a value
    public class ocsCategoryViewer extends Application {
    String _customer;
    @Override
        public void start(Stage primaryStage) {
         TreeView <String> ocsTree;
         TreeItem <String> root , subcat;
      TreeItem <String> root = new TreeItem <String> ("/");
            root.setExpanded(true);
             ocsTree = new TreeView <String> (root);
             buildTree();     // this uses the Customer Object.
            StackPane stkp_root = new StackPane();
            stkp_root.getChildren().add(btn);
            stkp_root.getChildren().add(ocsTree);
            Scene scene = new Scene(stkp_root, 300, 250);
            primaryStage.setTitle("Tree Category Viewer");
            primaryStage.setScene(scene);
            primaryStage.show();
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            _customer = args[0];      // temporarily trying to pass in string.
            launch(args);

    JavaFX and Swing integration is documented by Oracle - make sure you understand that before doing further development.
    What are you really trying to do?  The answer to your question depends on the approach you are taking (which I can't really work out from your question).  You will be doing one of:
    1. Run your Swing application and your JavaFX application as different processes and communicate between them.
    This is the case if you have both a Swing application with a main which you launch (e.g. java MySwingApp) and JavaFX application which extends application which you launch independently (e.g. java MyJavaFXApp).
    You will need to do something like open a client/server network socket between the applications and send the data between them.
    2. Run a Swing application with embedded JavaFX components.
    So you just run java MySwingApp.
    You use a JFXPanel, which is "a component to embed JavaFX content into Swing applications."
    3. Run a Java application with embedded Swing components.
    So you just run java MyJavaFXApp.
    You use a SwingNode, which is "used to embed a Swing content into a JavaFX application".
    My recommendation is:
    a. Don't use approach number one and have separate apps written in Swing and Java - that would be pretty complicated and unwarranted for almost all applications.
    b. Don't mix the two toolkits unless you really need to.  An example of a real need is that you have a huge swing app based upon the NetBeans platform and you want to embed a couple of JavaFX graphs in there.  But if your application is only pretty small (e.g., it took less than a month to write), just choose one toolkit or the other and implement your application entirely in that toolkit.  If your entire application is in Swing and you are just using JavaFX because you think its TreeView is easier to program, don't do that; either learn how to use Swing's tree control and use that or rewrite your entire application in JavaFX.  Reasons for my suggestion are listed here: JavaFX Tip 9: Do Not Mix Swing / JavaFX
    c. If you do need to mix the two toolkits, the answer of which approach to use will be obvious.  If you have a huge Swing app and want to embed one or two JavaFX components in it, then use JFXPanel.  If you have a huge JavaFX app and want to embed one or two Swing components in it, use a SwingNode.  Once you do start mixing the two toolkits be very careful about thread processing, which you are almost certain screw up at least during development, no matter how an experienced a developer you are.  Also sharing the data between the Swing and JavaFX components will be trivial as you are now running everything in the same application within the virtual machine and it is all just Java so you can just pass data around as parameters to constructors and method calls, the same way you usually do in a Java program, you can even use static classes and data references to share data but usually a dependency injection framework is better if you are going to do that - personally I'd just stick to simply passing data through method calls.

  • Error handle request; Root exception is: java.lang.NoSuchMethodError

    Hello Guys,
    I am running EBS 11i, rdbms 10g on OEL4. After applying a bunch of patches to resolve some IE issues I ran into an error:
    "FRM-41072: Cannot create group ACTION_REC_GROUP" when trying to cancel a PO.
    An SR directed me to apply patch 8286920 which indeed fixed the FRM-41072 error. After this patch "Logon to Oracle Applications Manager" is not possible as the page gives me :
    Error handle request; Root exception is: java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: oracle.apps.fnd.security.AolSecurity.userPwdHash(Ljava/lang/String;)Ljava/lang/String;
    MOS thinks that patch 8286920 didn't break OAM but I don't think so since this is only happening on my DEV and TEST systems on which I have applied the patch. PROD, wihtout the patch, is accessible through OAM just as usual?
    Any thouths?
    Thank you
    Mathias

    Did you apply all patches mentioned in the following docs?
    FRM-41072 - Unable to Cancel Purchase Order or Purchase Order Line or Release [ID 947402.1]
    Change Tax Code in the Purchase Order Gets Error - Could not reserve record (2 tries) Keep trying [ID 956047.1]
    Autocreate Process Does Not Default Purchase Order Form As The Active Window After PO Is Created - Does Not Come To The Front [ID 1055623.1]
    Did you bounce all the services and see if you ca reproduce the issue?
    What about clearing the server cache files? -- How To Clear Caches (Apache/iAS, Cabo, Modplsql, Browser, Jinitiator, Java, Portal, WebADI) for E-Business Suite? [ID 742107.1]
    Can you find any errors in the database/apache log files? Any invalid objects?
    If you have verified all the above please update the SR with the error you have after applying that patch.
    Thanks,
    Hussein

  • Advantage of Java Exceptions over C error handling.

    I understand the advantages of Java Exception handling(as against C) when it comes to the ability to define exclusive Exception types or reuse exceptions, documentation benefits of the throws clause, advantages due to OO etc. But some people say that using exceptions in Java it is possible to recover from an exceptional condition and that's an advantage over how errors are dealt in C.
    Is that really an advantage? (I mean is that true?)AFAIK in C errors can be handled using perror or errno.h. For every error code generated there seems to be a description. And by checking the return values from functions we could see if there had been an exceptional condition and if there really had been one take appropriate action and recover from the error. So how is it that Java can recover from exceptions while in C it is not possible to recover from errors?
    Thank you very much.

  • How can I pass an exception from one thread to another thread

    If I create a new class, that will extends the class Thread, the methode run() can not be use with the statement Throws Exeption .
    The question now: Is there any possibility to pass an exception from one thread to another thread?
    Thx.

    It really depends on what you want to do with your exception. Is there some sort of global handler that will process the exceptions in some meaningful way? Unless you have that, there's not much point in throwing an exception in a thread, unless you simply want the stack trace generated.
    Presuming that you have a global handler that can catch exceptions, nest your Exception subclass inside a RuntimeException:
    public class NestedRuntimeException extends RuntimeException
        private final m_nestedException;
        public NestedRuntimeException(final Exception originalException)
            super("An exception occurred with message: " + originalException.getMessage());
            m_nestedException;
        public Exception getNestedException()
            return m_nestedException;
    }Your global handler can catch the NestedRuntimeException or be supplied it to process by the thread group.

    Hi,
       It is quite hard to find out the problem by seeing only exception trace. I think you are missing one of the mandatory elelments' properties or setting them to invalid values. Please check and let me know if you can give more information.

    GOT IT !!!
    I had to change the name of the method in .h file generated by javah command. On doing
    javac -d ../../classes HelloWorld.java
    go to the ../../classes directory (where you have the class file) and do
    javah HelloWorld
    I got a HelloWorld.h file in which I had
    JNIEXPORT void JNICALL Java_HelloWorld_display(JNIEnv *, jobject);
    I added the package name too:
    JNIEXPORT void JNICALL Java_GUI_HelloWorld_display(JNIEnv *, jobject);
    The HelloWorldImp.c file should have the same name (ie with package) and be in the same directory(ie ../../classes)
    compile and build the shared library to get "libhello.so" file
    gcc -c -fPIC -I/usr/lib/j2sdk1.3/include -I/usr/lib/j2sdk1.3/include/linux HelloWorldImp.c
    gives .o file
    gcc -shared -o libhello.so HelloWorldImp.o
    gives .so file
    then run java with the command in my first message. It works.
    Thanks for the reply "thedracle".

  • LSOCP 200 Content Player Java Exception

    Dear Collegues,
    I am encountering an issue with the LSOCP 200.
    Our client's infrastructure as follows:
    SAP R/3 Enterprise 4.7 Ext 2.00
    LSO         200     0029     SAPK-200PTINLSO     LSO 200 (Learning Solution - Back End) I
    LSOFE     200     0027     SAPK-200PRINLSOFE     LSOFE 200 (Learning Solution - Front End
    SAP EP 6.0
    I have done all the required configuration in R/3 by pointing to the content server and pointing to the Content Player in the respective IMG Tasks.
    Now, when I log on as a learner and attempt to start a course, I receive a Java Exception:

    The content plays on the local Content player on the desktop but the moment I attempt to play content with the server content player, this is what i get.
    Could you please let me know if you have come across this problem.
    Thanks and regards,

    Hi Abhiram,
    Please get in the IMG
    Training and Event Management -> SAP Learning Solution -> Learning Portal -> Select Learning Strategies
    Here you need to update your strategies defined.

  • Pass server exceptions to client in AXIS

    Hi everbody!
    I have a working Apache Axis framework and want to pass the exceptions thrown on server-side to the client.
    For instance I get an SQL-Exception on server side that the database wasn't found. (this problem was of course caused intentionally by myself to test the exception handling :-))
    Normally the method will fill a list with data and return it over the axis wire to the client. If the exception is thrown I got the SQL-Exception on server but on the client I got a null-pointer exception (due to the null list). I now want to pass this SQL-Exception to the client stacktrace. Any hints ? Thanks a lot in advance, I already searched the axis mail archive and found nothing....

    Looks like I'm following your steps, and that nobody replied. I've been trying with axis & tomcat, here's what I've foud out so far:
    1.-For what I've searched you have to wrap that exception into one you build that implements RemoteException (so you can pass it through the soap message). this actually doesn't work for me, I've got to implement Exception.
    2.-create wsdl & wsdd using Java2WSDL & WSDL2Java
    3.- I'm currently here, I see the soap message with my hello message but I don't know how to unwrap it from the client.
