Handling shared objects in designer 10g

I have 2 application dump that i should import in designer 10g. I had imported the first dump with the help of import option present in Restore menu option these contains 11 applications with its own sharing . Then i restored the second dump in the same manner.The second dump has 16 applicaitons .In the first dump i have two applications let us call it A and B .These A and B 's objects are referenced by applications C AND D in second dump and by some of the applications in the first dump itself .Now the issue is these A and B exists in both the dump, while restoring ,i was compelled to change the name of the application so that i can avoid duplication .In this way iam able to import. Hence , i would like to know if there is any methodology to avoid these duplication.

yes, and no ....
If you have versioning enabled, then the import will allow you to bring in the second copy of A and B as "new versions of existing elements". But that would imply that you have defined and implemented your version control processes and decided how were using version control / SCM in this repository. Not a simple thing, so .....
If you have a non-versioned repository, then sorry NO not during import.
This is because of the way the export was created. When you export you include a complete consistent set of applications that you want to import somewhere. Designer makes sure that you have ALL the elements you need. Thus you have A and B in both those exports.
The real answer is to export A, B, C, D, and their friends as a single export file -- if what you really want to do is import them all and preserve the sharing.
One avenue is to check with the odtug.com group / mailing lists. Someone over there may have written current scripts to do a "replace" of all pointers to A' elements with pointers to A elements (((this was part of Designer 6.0 Echo, but not 6i/9i/10g - sorry)))

  • Exception Handling in Object Oriented Design

    I am developing a huge web based project using Object Oriented design and java,srvlets ,jsp etc ,I am using 3-tier archtecture.I dont understand,how i should handle exceptions in my project.ie.If there is some exception in the base modules how should it be handled.What kind of excpetion Structure should i use,How many exception classes should be made etc,
    Can someone help me in this regard

    A couple things I have found to be good practices for exception handling in an n-tier architecture:
    1. Don't expose all the internal exceptions of a tier to the client of the tier. Create a more useful, descriptive set of exceptions (or use the appropriate predefined exceptions) to throw up to the client.
    For example, on one project, we are doing database access among other things in the "service" tier, which is accessed by the web tier. We catch the SQLExceptions, PersistenceExceptions (a custom exception), and others, and throw a more useful exception that the client will know how to handle such as a NoMeasurementResultsException if the client asks for measurement results when we have none.
    2. Chain your exceptions and/or log the root cause in the tier that re-throws a different exception. There is nothing more aggravating than not knowing why, when you are debugging a problem, you are getting a NoMeasurementResultsException when you know that there ARE results in the database.
    Hope these ideas help in your design.
    Cheers,
    Colin

  • Calling shared objects in unix from Forms 6i and 10g

    I would like to know how to call shared objects in unix from Froms 6i and 10g. Can anybody help in this regard? Your help is very well appreciated.

    Hi,
    Do you have any 11i instance where those custom forms are used? If yes, you will have to copy those forms from 11i to R12 instance, open the forms using Forms 10g builder, compile it and upload it back to the server.

  • Exception handling is not working in GCC compile shared object

    Hello,
    I am facing very strange issue on Solaris x86_64 platform with C++ code compiled usging gcc.3.4.3.
    I have compiled shared object that load into web server process space while initialization. Whenever any exception generate in code base, it is not being caught by exception handler. Even though exception handlers are there. Same code is working fine since long time but on Solaris x86, Sparc arch, Linux platform
    With Dbx, I am getting following stack trace.
    Stack trace is

    Link option is
    /usr/sfw/bin/g++ -shared -m64 -o apache.so apache.o -lsocket -lnsl -ldl -lpthread -lthread
    At line 86, we are just throwing simple exception which have catch handlers in place. Also we do have catch(...) handler as well.
    Surpursing things are..same issue didn't observe if we make it as executable.
    Issue only comes if this is shared object loaded on webserver. If this is plain shared object, opened by anyother exe, it works fine.
    Can someone help me out. This is completly blocking issue for us. Using Solaris Sun Studio compiler is no option as of now.

    shared object that load into web server process space
    ... same issue didn't observe if we make it as executable.When you "inject" your shared object into some other process a well-being of your exception handling depends on that other process.
    Mechanics of x64 stack traversing (unwind) performed when you throw the exception is quite complicated,
    particularly involving a "nearly-standartized" Unwind interface (say, Unwind_RaiseException).
    When we are talking about g++ on Solaris there are two implementations of unwind interface, one in libc and one in libgcc_s.so.
    When you g++-compile the executable you get it directly linked with libgcc_s.so and Unwind stuff resolves into libgccs.
    When g++-compiled shared object is loaded into non-g++-compiled executable's process _Unwind calls are most likely already resolved into Solaris libc.
    Thats why you might see the difference.
    Now, what exactly causes this difference can vary, I can only speculate.
    All that would not be a problem if _Unwind interface was completely standartized and properly implemented.
    However there are two issues currently:
    * gcc (libstdc++ in particular) happens to use additional non-standard _Unwind calls which are not present in Solaris libc
    naturally, implementation details of Unwind implementation in libc differs to that of libgccs, so when all the standard _Unwind
    routines are resolved into Solaris version and one non-standard _Unwind routine is resolved into gcc version you get a problem
    (most likely that is what happens with you)
    * libc Unwind sometimes is unable to decipher the code generated by gcc.
    However that is likely to happen with modern gcc (say, 4.4+) and not that likely with 3.4.3
    Btw, you can check your call frame to see where _Unwind calls come from:
    where -h -lIf you indeed stomped on "mixed _Unwind" problem then the only chance for you is to play with linker
    so it binds Unwind stuff from your library directly into libgccs.
    Not tried it myself though.
    regards,
    __Fedor.

  • Slow performance Designer 10g (on 10gR2 database)

    We are busy testing Designer 10g version 10.1.2.5 (windows XP) on 10gR2 64 bit database (Sun solaris) . The repository was migrated from Designer 6.0.
    But the performance/response is rather slow. Example: At first, opening a server model diagram took 2 minutes or more. By searching the forum we found the tip for the "alter system set OPTIMIZER_SECURE_VIEW_MERGING = false;". That made a big difference.
    But now we still have response problems: Expanding the treeview for the list of tables, views or snapshots takes much longer then in Designer 6.0.
    Also opening for example Design Editor takes longer then one normally expects, allthough some delay can be expected because we have a lot of applications (100) in the repository.
    Is it because it is now written in Java, or are more database optimizations possible?
    Paul.

    Have you computed statistics using the Repository Administration Utility (RAU)? The default percentage of 20% is usually good enough, but you could go higher.
    Do a View Objects in RAU and check for missing, disabled or invalid objects. If you find any, there are ways to correct the situation, mostly under the Recreate button.
    Make sure that no-one else is using the repository, then press the Recreate button in RAU and use the selection labeled: Truncate Temporary Tables. Sometimes these tables get too full and can impact performance.
    Under the Options menu in RAU, there is an item labeled: Enable Performance Enhancements. To be honest with you, I've never noticed this item before, and I don't know for sure what it does. Then again, I've never had any serious performance problems in Designer. It might be worth your while to back up your repository, then turn this on.

  • Error 0(Native: listNetInterfaces:[3]) and error while loading shared libraries: libpthread.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

    Hi Gurus,
    I'm trying to upgrade my test 9.2.0.8 rac to 10.1 rac. I cannot upgrade to 10.2 because of RAM limitations on my test RAC. 10.1 Clusterware software was successfully installed and the daemons are up with OCR and voting disk created. Then during the installation of RAC software at the end, root.sh needs to be run. When I run root.sh, it gave the error: while loading shared libraries: libpthread.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory. I have libpthread.so.0 in /lib. I looked up on metalink and found Doc ID: 414163.1 . I unset the LD_ASSUME_KERNEL in vipca (unsetting of LD_ASSUME_KERNEL was not required in srvctl because there was no LD_ASSUME_KERNEL in srvctl). Then I tried to run vipca manually. I receive the following error: Error 0(Native: listNetInterfaces:[3]). I'm able to see xclock and xeyes. So its not a problem with x.

    if you look at oifcfg getif, I initially had eth1 10.0.0.0 global cluster_interconnect,eth0 192.168.2.0 global public then I created eth1 10.1.1.0 global cluster_interconnect with setif. Should it be 10.1.1.0 or 10.0.0.0. I looked at the subnet calculator and it says for 10.1.1.1, 10.0.0.0 is the subnet. In metalink they had used 10.10.10.0 and hence I used 10.1.1.0
    Any ideas on resolving this issue would be very much appreciated. I had been searching on oracle forums, google, metalink but all of them refer to DOC Id 414163.1 but it does n't seem to work. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Under installed products, I see 9i home, 10g home, crs home. Under 10g home and crs home, I see cluster nodes(sunny1pub and sunny2pub) So it looks like the 10g software is installed.

  • Help with shared objects...again...

    Okay, I've been looking at a really good tutorial for shared objects in AS2, and I think I've gotten the basic concept down of how they work... now the problem lies in just integrating it into what I already have, which is making my brain hurt.  Basically its for a quiz game, which will have a dynamic scoreboard.  I want the scores in the shared object to update when the submit button is pressed, and then have the new values loaded into text boxes.  Displaying the values is going to be the easy part, its just updating them is what my brain doesnt want to wrap itself around.  Here is the array I have at the moment (yes, horribly inefficient, but the last time I actually did any coding before this was over 2 years ago when I was still a computer science major... with all of 4 actual Comp Sci courses under my belt -_-)
    scores= new Array();
    names= new Array();
    insert=function() {
         var newscore;
         var newname;
         newscore=0
         newscore=_global.correct;
         if (newscore > scores[0]) {
             scores[14]=scores[13];
             scores[13]=scores[12];
             scores[12]=scores[11];
             scores[11]=scores[10];
             scores[10]=scores[9];
             scores[9]=scores[8];
             scores[8]=scores[7];
             scores[7]=scores[6];
             scores[6]=scores[5];
             scores[5]=scores[4];
             scores[4]=scores[3];
             scores[3]=scores[2];
             scores[2]=scores[1];
             scores[1]=scores[0];
             scores[0]=newscore;
             names[14]=names[13];
             names[13]=names[12];
             names[12]=names[11];
             names[11]=names[10];
             names[10]=names[9];
             names[9]=names[8];
             names[8]=names[7];
             names[7]=names[6];
             names[6]=names[5];
             names[5]=names[4];
             names[4]=names[3];
             names[3]=names[2];
             names[2]=names[1];
             names[1]=names[0];
             names[0]=newname;
             else if (newscore > scores[1]) {
             scores[14]=scores[13];
             scores[13]=scores[12];
             scores[12]=scores[11];
             scores[11]=scores[10];
             scores[10]=scores[9];
             scores[9]=scores[8];
             scores[8]=scores[7];
             scores[7]=scores[6];
             scores[6]=scores[5];
             scores[5]=scores[4];
             scores[4]=scores[3];
             scores[3]=scores[2];
             scores[2]=scores[1];
             scores[1]=newscore
             names[14]=names[13];
             names[13]=names[12];
             names[12]=names[11];
             names[11]=names[10];
             names[10]=names[9];
             names[9]=names[8];
             names[8]=names[7];
             names[7]=names[6];
             names[6]=names[5];
             names[5]=names[4];
             names[4]=names[3];
             names[3]=names[2];
             names[2]=names[1];
             names[1]=newname;
    Continues all the way down to scores[14]
    Now, if I wanted this to pull data from the shared object, would I just put user_so.score[3]=user_so.score[2] for instance?  Or would I run the array and just update the new valued individually once the array insertion function completes?  THe problem with the latter is that it's not directly accessing the shared object so I'd need to find a way to pull them out into other variables first, and this is about the point where my brain just decides to short out on me and stop working alltogether...yay...
    So yea, any help on this would be much appreciated.
    also, would the array have to be declared within the shared object as well?  If so, how would I do that exactly?  Probably something so simple but the fact that it's shared objects is throwing me off...

    Ok, the shared object WAS working just fine until I had the banner start referencing it.  Then the quiz began giving me syntax errors like crazy, and even when the banner isnt runnit it gives me issues.

  • Having problem displaying remote shared objects on flash

    hi
    I am using red5 flash server and at that side creating a shared object called chatSharedObject
    For the client side,I am using openlaszlo platform, but using actionscript 3  classes for the shared object implementation. cilent application is connecting to the shared object on the red5 side successfully(as I see on the red5 logs).
    here is the calling code snippet:
    [CODE]
    <button id="sendButton">send
          <handler name="onclick" method="sendClicked" />
          <method name="sendClicked" args="v=0">
            if (message.text != "") {
        //Debug.write("Message sent!");
        classroot.writeSharedObject(message.text);
        message.clearText();
        message.setAttribute("text_y", 0);
        </method>
    </button>
    <method name="writeSharedObject" args="message">
    [B]//shared object send method is being called[/B]
        this.send("writeMessage",loginScreen.getUsername(),message);
    </method>
    <!--this method writes the messages to the debug window which will be shown to all users-->
    <method name="writeMessage" args="username, msg">
        //Debug.debug(msg);
        messageArea.addText(username+ " : "+msg+"\n");
    </method>[/CODE]
    When I generate the flash object and try to use this application, nothing is being displayed although there is no problem on this issue on the development enviroment. Problem causes when I try to run the swf10 flash object.
    Is this maybe a flash security issue? Although I have added the corresponding locations as the trusted location on the flash settings manager. Still problem goes on. And I think this is not about the flash player, it might be a special problem about the flash object.
    Couldn't find the solution for a week,
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance
    Cem

    i can even gointo firefox and chrome and save the shared object. then open my i.e and see that object in the results page. but if i save the shared object in i.e it throws that error on the results page. So i'm pretty sure it must be the flushing of the object. Pasting my save code below:
    function makeResult(evt:MouseEvent):void{
          var flushstatus:String = new String();
          gSo.data.o = o;
          gSo.data.c = c;
          gSo.data.t = t;
          gSo.data.c = v;
          gSo.data.u=uid;
          flushstatus = gSo.flush();
          if (flushstatus != null) {
            switch (flushstatus) {
              case SharedObjectFlushStatus.PENDING: //this is incase the user doesnt have enough space
                gSo.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, onFlushStatus);
                break;
              case SharedObjectFlushStatus.FLUSHED:
                redirect();
                break;
    function onFlushStatus(event:NetStatusEvent):void {
      switch (event.info.code) {
        case "SharedObject.Flush.Success":
          gSo.removeEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, onFlushStatus);
          redirect();
          break;
        case "SharedObject.Flush.Failed":
          trace ("Shared object storage failed");
          break;
    function redirect() {
      try{
        var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest('../node/2');// i supply a base parameter to the swf so the redirect works
        navigateToURL(request,"_self");
      catch(error:Error){
        trace ("Redirect failed");

  • Synchronizing Shared Objects

    // Server side
    application.onAppStart = function()
    // ... code here
    application.users_so = SharedObject.get("users_so", false);
    // ... more code here
    application.onConnect = function(newClient, userID)
    // client object properties being setup, etc
    application.users_so.setProperty(userID, newClient);
    // ... more code
    application.acceptConnection(newClient);
    // Client side
    nc.connect(rtmpURL, userID);
    users_so = SharedObject.getRemote("users_so", nc.uri, false);
    users_so.connect(nc);
    When I call the above on the client side I should receive a
    copy of all users that are stored in the server's shared object
    indexable by users_so.data[userID] correct?
    on the server side I perform the following:
    application.acceptConnection(newClient);
    newClient.call("updateStatus", null, userID);
    on the client side the updateStatus method looks like this:
    nc.syncQuestions = function(userID:String)
    trace("--> "+users_so.data[userID]+" <--");
    }; (is the ';' necessary?!?)
    this prints: --> undefined <--
    WHY?!? :( --> is this because of a race condition between
    the nc.connect() and the users_so.connect() ??
    NOTE: My problem seems to arise when I try to re-connect
    (i.e. connect w/ client, close client, re-open client)
    Cheers

    I have the feeling it's a timing problem because you're not
    waiting for the onStatus event from the netconnection before you
    connect the shared object.
    Try adding an onStatus handler to your netconnection, and
    wait for a code of "NetConnection.Connect.Success". Then connect
    your shared object.

  • Oracle Designer 10g With Oracle 11g DB possible

    Hi,
    Please clarify my below query,
    we are currently using oracle designer 10g and deploying the components to production DB which is in oracle 9i, We are planning to migrate to oracle supported version 11g DB, since oracle designer 11g is not there we would be sticking to oracle 10g itself, Now my question is, will we be having issues or road blocks with this combination Oracle designer 10g and Oracle 11g DB???
    Regards
    Bala

    @Erik
    Don't have a doc id. You have to go to the certication tab in My Oracle Support. Search for Oracle Designer 10.1.2.6.0 there you will find the three supported database version.
    Oracle Designer 10.1.2.6.0 is certified with Oracle Database 11.2.0.1.0 on Microsoft Windows (32-bit) XP
    Oracle Designer 10.1.2.6.0 with Oracle Database 11.2.0.1.0
    Customers must review MetaLink Doc 1299040.1 Application Design Transformer Hangs at 65% when running against Oracle 11gR2
    Certified with:
    Oracle Fusion Middleware 10g 10.1.2.0.2 Oracle Developer Suites 10g 10.1.2.0.2 Oracle AS/DS Patch Set 10g 10.1.2.3.0
    @Bala
    Colleagues of mine have imported a designer repository inside 11gR2 and where not able to change objects inside the repository. When they imported the same designer dump inside an 11gR1 database it worked fine.
    In the other post (Re: 11G compatibility it is also written that there are some major bugs and those bugs will not be fixed.

    Shared objects have to be self-contained. You cannot have references that point outside the shared object.

    Hi Experts... I am a new to Oracle APPS trying to install Ebusiness suite in oracle enterprise linux ver 6,1 using oracle virtualbox.. and I am stuck with libdb-4.3.so for last 3 days.. searched google and bing, not able to find any information.Oracle EBS R12 is not certified yet with Linux 6 so please install a supported OS (see the docs before for the list) or check the certification matrix and try the installation then.

  • Issue with Shared Objects

    Hi all,
    I've a problem with a program working on Shared Objects technology.
    We have a Job, scheduled in 18 parallelism, and each one writes into the SHM controlled by a SHMA Class.
    At jobs ending, a program reads content from the area and sends an automatic e-mail with the results.
    Everything works well if the writer program is executed on-line.
    Otherwise, in background, seems that nothing is stored in the SHM.
    Here's the code executed by the writer program:
    FORM shared_memory_access  TABLES  it_fehler STRUCTURE rpfausg.
      DATA: errors_reference TYPE REF TO data.
      DATA: lx_pterl00       TYPE REF TO zcx_pterl00_collector.
      TRY.
    * --> Get SHM Access
          CALL METHOD zcl_pterl00_collector_root=>build
            EXPORTING
              invocation_mode = cl_shm_area=>invocation_mode_explicit.
    * --> It's ok?
          IF zcl_pterl00_collector_root=>area_exists EQ 'X'.
    * --> Fill Data:
            GET REFERENCE OF it_fehler[] INTO errors_reference.
            CALL METHOD zcl_pterl00_collector_root=>fill_area_with_data
              EXPORTING
                error_messages_dref = errors_reference.
          ENDIF.
        CATCH zcx_pterl00_collector INTO lx_pterl00.
          MESSAGE lx_pterl00 TYPE 'S' DISPLAY LIKE 'E'. "Non-blocking -> JOBS
      ENDTRY.
    ENDFORM.                    " SHARED_MEMORY_ACCESS
    Here is the section from the class handling the attachment to the SHMA:
    METHOD if_shm_build_instance~build.
      DATA: lx_collector TYPE REF TO zcx_pterl00_collector.
    * --> Automatic building of instance:
      TRY.
          CALL METHOD get_handle_for_update( inst_name ).
        CATCH zcx_pterl00_collector INTO lx_collector.
          MESSAGE lx_collector TYPE 'X'.
        CATCH: cx_shm_no_active_version.
          TRY.
              CALL METHOD get_handle_for_write( inst_name ).
            CATCH zcx_pterl00_collector INTO lx_collector.
              MESSAGE lx_collector TYPE 'X'.
          ENDTRY.
        CATCH: cx_shm_inconsistent.
          zcl_pterl00_collector=>free_area( ).
          TRY.
              CALL METHOD get_handle_for_write( inst_name ).
            CATCH zcx_pterl00_collector INTO lx_collector.
              MESSAGE lx_collector TYPE 'X'.
          ENDTRY.
      ENDTRY.
    ENDMETHOD.
    I cannot explain why multiple jobs do not populate the area...

    Hi Rob,
    if your requirement is to have many (18) active processes all updating the shared object, and very few simply reading the shared object, then versioning is probably not what you require.
    Versioning allows readers to continue to attach and read the active shared object instance while the updater gets their own instance of the shared object. When the updater does a detach_commit the old instance becomes obsolete and all new requests to attach will be diected to the new instance. The old instance will be cleaned up by garbage collection once all of its readers have detached.
    If your programs primarily attach for update then you will decrease performance with versioning because a new instance needs to be created at every attach for update.
    Perhaps you should just retry the attach for update after a small period of time has passed?
    If, on the other hand, you do have lots of other readers of the shared object you may well still find that it is more efficient not to have versioning. I build a web shop catalogue using shared objects and found that versioning severly hampered performance. This was because, once the catalogue was initialised, updaters were pretty rare but readers were constant.
    BTW make sure you keep the locks on the object as short as possible. Do all your preparation work first, then attach for update, update, detach as quick as possible.
    Cheers
    Graham Robbo

  • Shared Objects not imported properly

    I am moving from 6i to 9i.
    I exported my 6i applications.
    I imported them into 9i.
    The one application consists of some tables shared from another. I imported the source of the shares first.
    In the RON the shared objects show correctly under the "Table Definitions", but they are absent in the Design Editor under the "Server Model Tab." Trying to reshare them causes an error (as expected).
    How do I reconcile the database so the shared object show up properly ?
    Help appreciated
    Andrew

    Hi Neeraj,
    first if you did not initialize Task's user and it comes back uninitialized that does not sound like a problem.
    Probably the read only User was cached and not explicitly refreshed by subsequent queries. I.e. if User is changed on the database that change won't necessarily get reflected in the toplink cache.
    Try setting descriptor.alwaysRefreshCache(true);

  • XML support in Designer 10g

    I need to read an XML document which contains an Erwin 4.1.4 diagram entity/relationships into Oracle Designer 10g.Does anyone knows if there is a support for this and how to accomplish ?

    Hi again !
    I need to convert an OBJECT INSTANCE. e.g.
    CLASS student DEFINITION.
    PUBLIC SECTION.
    METHODS:constructor
    IMPORTING
    i_name TYPE c
    i_indeks TYPE n,
    introduce_yourself
    EXPORTING
    e_name TYPE c.
    PRIVATE SECTION.
    DATA: name(30) TYPE c,
    indeks(10) TYPE n.
    ocena LIKE ys_ocena,
    tabela_ocen TYPE TABLE OF ys_ocena.
    ENDCLASS.
    I have to convert a single INSTANCE of this class to XML and send it as a XML stream (or XML formated content in internal table) in return value of function module called through RFC.
    As you can see - this class contains some variables and an internal table. For me, a best solution would be to provide this class instance as a parameter and get a XML formated data.
    I have a SAP system and Web Application written in Java. Comunications between them is provided by RFC (JCo). SAP application and Web Application communicate by exchanging a XML documents. Since, SAP part is using Abap Objects - i have to convert object to/from XML.
    Thanks for all your help.
