Hardware monitoring on IEA system
Hello,
We have recently acquired a few Ironport Encryption Appliances (IEA's). We are a little disappointed in the overall appliance management of these systems.
Ironport (Cisco nowadays) has spend an enormous effort in getting the C, S and most likely also the S series as closed as possible. personally I like this fact since it makes it totally clear that no Unix sys-admin should try to install "corporate-standard" system management agents (like Tivoli agents, backup agents etc).
The IEA apeared to be a loosly hardened CentOs-5 box with the encryption software installed on top of it.
The problem of this is that we did not find any decent way to monitor the systems hardware status. We have been able to create an additional system user that we use to give our Nagios monitoring system access to the most critical application statuses (is PG-SQL running, is the Post-X process running, is the system listening on TCP25, are there no queued items etc).
Besides the RAID status we have not been able to monitor any of the hardware sensors.
I know the used Dell hardware is supported by IPMI but that tool is not installed (and we do not want to install any additional packages).
Anyone any ideas?
Thanks, Steven
Hello Steven,
I have checked internally for some similar questions, and so far the status is that an SNMP demon is already running on the IEAs, yet we do not have any MIB designed for these models, and SNMP monituring is not yet supported, although we have feature requests for that to get it implemented in future versions. Sorry for not being much of a help here, but just thought I'd let you know.
Regards,
Andreas

please suggest me if it is ok for my new system and whether it would be advisible to use software like "Hardware monitor" to generate such reports intermittantly or there is any other alternativeWelcome to Apple Support Communities
Temperatures are normal, so your MacBook Pro is working correctly. Fans will turn on automatically when temperature is high, so don't worry about that. If you see that fans don't turn on, reply back because it would be a hardware problem -
Unusual temperature with CPUID Hardware monitor.
I have a NF980-G65 board with a phenom 2 955BE processor and all is well only in CPUID hardware monitor I have three temps
Temperature 0 43°C (109°F) [0x2B] (TMPIN0)
Temperature 1 87°C (188°F) [0x57] (TMPIN1)
Temperature 2 37°C (98°F) [0x25] (TMPIN2)
None are the same with the GPU or CPU temps.
Where do these readings came from and the middle one which is pretty big, need I worry about or forget it?in bios i have a CPU temp of 45ºC which it is close to the first temp in cpuid hardware monitor and another system temp of 38º which can be the third one . But the one that had me asking in the first time is the middle one the one that's so big.
Case ambient temperature is 30ºC -
LCD display for Hardware Monitor?
Hardware Monitor...
http://www.bresink.com/osx/HardwareMonitor.html
...supports certain external, USB-based LCD displays for providing system status. Is anyone using one?
Can anyone recommend a nice, already-assembled unit to set on the desk here? Thanks.
blakespotSadly none of the above unit will work w/ Hardware Monitor.
I just received this email from the author after inquiring about the above displays compatibility w/ Hardware Monitor:
Unfortunately, these vendors are completely unknown in Europe and
they only offer drivers for Windows, so no support for these modules
is possible so far.
If not, is there a ready-made, external (already in a little
enclosure) unit that does?
No, I am currently not aware of any ready-made units. Unfortunately
the market for these devices seems to be so small that no worldwide
vendor has established an industry standard yet, or could provide
an open software layer for Mac OS X. When such a solution exists, we
will immediately support it in Hardware Monitor.
For more information about LCD unit support please see the chapter
"Controlling external alphanumeric displays" in the reference manual
of Hardware Monitor.

Hardware Monitor Setup Freeze (K7T266Pro2) [SOLVED]
1.Product Type: K7T 266 Pro2 (6380 v2)
2.BIOS version: AMI V3.70
3.External VGA Type: ATI Radeon VE 7000 AGP 128Mo
4.CPU Type: Athlon XP 1600+
5.Memory Type: 2*256 Mo DDR PC2100 PQI
6.Power Supply Type: Heden PSXA870 380W with -5V output
7.Operating System: Win XP Pro Sp2
8.Problem Description:
When accessing to hardware monitor setup page in BIOS, I get a freeze that I can olny escape by Ctrl Alt Suppr.
I have made an update of Bios to V3.70 because a new module of memory I have bought make problems. This update do not change anything, so I remove this new module and don't use anymore.
But by updating, my CPU clock down to 1050 Mhz instead of 1333Mhz, due to FSB set to 100Mhz.
And impossible to access the page to set the parameter at 133Mhz due to a freeze.
How to solve the problem and get back the right configuration I had before ?
I have read that the problem may come from the power supplies that don't have -5V. I don't know what produce my PS, but how to prevent BIOS to check this -5V ?
EDIT : I have check my PS and it produce -5V.
Many thanks for your hlep.
Regards.

Back with happy news :
- I have flash with v3.7 : flash OK
- Still getting the problem : hardware monitor page setup freeze, and unable to set FSB to 133Mhz and get the right CPU clock.
So, my solution :
- Looking for editing the AMI Bios file.
- I have load v3.70 Bios file in editor, and only change one parameter : I have set not active the -5V check in hardware monitor module.
- Save my new bios file (called it v3.71)
- Then, flash with that edited bios file
- And manage to access the Hardware Monitor Setup page to set the FSB at 133Mhe. No more freeze.
I don't know how to call this type of solution, but it works well.
For moderators, you can modify the subject by adding [solved] if you want.
Many thanks for everybody. -
have any of you experienced spontaneous system shut downs followed by bios reports of 'hardware monitor error' press delete to enter setup etc. My system has been brought to its knees by this and the good people at samsung have told me that it is probably the vga or the mainboard - which are the g4ti4200td and the a7v333 respectively. I am stumped, is this possibly an IRQ issue, or a refresh rate issue or what. The problem is not isolated to high graphic output operations, indicating, I would thing, a memory problem. It happens seemingly in spite of me, no matter if I am running any programs or not.
any info is much appreciated... thanx ?(Can I have your specs of your computer you are running on? Thanks...

Hardware Monitor on K9N2 SLI Platinum
Good Day All!
I have a question about the hardware monitor in the bios.
When I look in there it shows the Icore = 42.112 A; and that I12v = 5.491A.
Could someone please explain these numbers to me?
I think these might explain the problems I have been having.
CraicThanks Henry.
I just got permission from the good wife to order the new power supply.
I ordered a Corsair TX750 with the following specs. I hope it will correct my troubles.
I opted for a larger power supply than suggested as the Icore of my system seemed to be higher then the rating of the smaller VX550 watt unit.
AC INPUT 90-264V ~ 10A 50/60Hz
DC OUTPUT +3.3V +5V +12V -12V +5Vsb
MAX LOAD 24A 28A 60A 0.8A 3A
MAX COMBINED WATTAGE 180W 720W 9.6W 15W
TOTAL POWER: 750W
Thanks again for your assistance.
When I get this in the box I'll let you know how things are going.

I would like to known the cost of monitoring on-line system
I have a monitoring on-line system with the following features:
aquisition of 8 temperature channels and 6 vibration channels, storing data in databases, transmission on protocol TCP/IP, alarms etc...
But I do not known the cost of that systems in the market. I would like know which be the cost of a system like this? There are specifics to your system features which will make the cost vary. One thing is, is this a system you want to build yourself or have developed for you by an Alliance Member. The costs of course being the time and resources and depending on the complexity of your application and in house resources you may be better served by an Alliance Member.
On your system cost from the standpoint of the hardware or software a number of factors may come into play. These include, your sampling rate requirements and accuracy requirement, if you have any special environmental needs (chambers, signal conditioning and so on).
On storing to databases, and using TCP/IP, and setting up alarms with pager or e-mail notifications these should be relatively inexpensive ... al
l depending on the specifics of your application (security, scalability).
Your best bet is to call an engineer at NI (http://www.ni.com/contact) that can get a clearer understanding of your needs and present you with different options.
Best of luck,

Can anyone assist me how to gather this informtion from SUN system and monitor in HP OVO,
Appriciate for your quick response.
Thanks,
EqubalHi Equbal,
Sun Management Center 4.0 is the best tool out there for hardware monitoring of your Sun Hardware. SunMC has predefined thresholds set for all the monitored components. It is also the only tool that would give you a graphical view of your Sun hardware and pointing out the components that are in a faulty state.
To send traps from Sun Management Center (SunMC) to HP OpenView, you will need 2 products from Halcyon Monitoring Solutions: PrimeAlert EventAction and Adapter for HP OpenView:

Hardware Monitoring using SCOM 2007R2
Hi All,
We have a requirement to monitor hardware (Dell,HP) in our SCOM 2007 R2 environment. Also we have to make sure that the hardware monitoring group should only view the hardware related alerts and no alerts related to OS.
I believe that Hardware monitoring is based on the operating system and those OS alerts may be related to the Hardware related alerts.
I want to clarify myself is my point of stand that can I restrict users from viewing OS related alerts when I provide access to the hardware monitoring group.
Thanks
rajYou can download and install Hardware Management pack for Dell and HP to monitor Hardware servers using below link
http://opsmgr.wordpress.com/2007/06/30/hardware-monitoring-with-scom-07/
And for operating system you can import management pack related to your o.s using below link
http://blogs.technet.com/b/mazenahmed/archive/2011/11/30/download-windows-server-operating-system-management-pack-for-operations-manager-2007.aspx
So that you can separate between users who viewing alerts of Hardware and users who viewing alerts of OS

Overclock can damage hardware monitor ???
I'm sharing this doubt because something happens in my new upgrade ride.
I've bought an dual core processor (4200) and start to overclock it (signature pc). In a insane action i've decide to test my 4200 with the settings of my old system (athlon 3000+ @ 2250). So i've set the system this way:
HT=250, 4x
Memory=166 Mhz (divisor 14)
So, i've boot up the system with the processor at 2750 Mhz, but for some reason, the hardware monitoring function of the battery start to show 2.6V and not 3.0V as usually. Doing some stress tests the temperature was getting high, so i've decided to go back to stock clocks.
Unfortunately, the monitoring error stayed.
Thinking that might be the battery, i've removed it and measure it with a multimeter, and i've got 2.9V (3 years old). Thinking that could be the problem, i've decide to replace it. But no fix. The problem persist.
It's possible to have damage the hardware monitoring chip in only Vbat monitoring ?
The rest of the system is working flawless.Quote from: HenryW on 28-November-07, 08:52:27
Starting out at 2750 OC is a bit much without working up to it. I think you should start at about 2500 and work up from that. What temps did it show under load? What HSF do have on it?
I agree with you !!! Despite windows had boot up, the system was not stable (super pi errors), and the temperatures was high.
Now my system is running at 2400Mhz and everything "look" stable. Super pi was running without errors and prime do so. The temperatures at full load not pass 60C. I'm using the box HSF with artic silver 5 (have to wait a little to total performance). At idle, the temperatures are at 40C, the same as my old 3000+. -
Hardware monitoring chiset & support
I own a MSI 6163 Pro MoBo. The hardware monitoring chipset works just fine under DOS based Windows systems: 98, 98SE or Me. BUT ... it doesn't under win nt40, 2k or xp..... so why ... and what should I do ???
need some hlp with this one ...You can't do anything about it. But you can use other hardware monitoring programs. Assaf once recommended me MBM5.

G31m bios hardware monitor reports 5v-line -204v
Hi. I'm trying to build a low-end machine for my studies but ran into problems right away. Here are the parts I've smashed together: g31m, e2160, 2*512Mb corsair sticks, samsung s166, antec earthwatts 380w, some old cd drive. Windows XP install gives BSOD after maybe a minute. I've tested with another PSU, ide cable and cd drive with same results. All the cables seem to be in right places. Only abnormal thing is +5v-line which seems to be -204v according to hardware monitor. Is this motherboard broken? Any help would be much appreciated.

nstall-cd doesn't include any service packs.
Download XP ISO BUILDER or NLITE and use one of these tools to create an Install-CD that includes Service Pack II. Both tools are freeware, easy to use and the procedure shouldn't take longer than 20-30 Minutes.
An Install-CD that includes SP2 is a must when trying to install XP on newer systems.

Also I tried memtest from bootable cd and it just flashes the screen and reboots immediately.
Try installing XP SP2 with one stick of RAM only. -
Speedit kext & hardware Monitor 3.6
I love the fact that Increw developed "speedit" CPU temperature monitor kext and now Marcel Bresnik has incorporated its use into his great Hardware Monitor program BUT I just realized that the "kextload" command only loads the kernal extension temporarily and NOT at every startup so that HM can read the sensor.
Can one of you smart guys out there tell me is there is an "elegant" way of having that kext load every boot so HM can automatically use it all the time?
(by elagant I mean not just putting the commands into a shell sctipt that asks for a password every boot)
There's gotta be a way, isn't there?
TIA,
PeterWell here's what I know so far. I tried using the sensor with HM and yes its great until you reboot.
So then I tried this...
copy speedit.kext to /System/Library/Extensions
sudo chown -R root:wheel speedit.kext
load the kext
$sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/speedit.kext
Optional - rebuilt the kext cache:
$kextcache -k /System/Library/Extentions
However the kextcache isn't getting rebuilt and so I continually have to reliad the kext to get HM to work.
Can someone take a look at what I'm doind and tell whats is wrong?
TIA,
Peter -
Running Hardware Monitor and noticed on the Frequency Sensors History window the frequency has a lower value of 2000MHz and occasionally spikes to 2667MHz. Is this what everyone else is seeing and is it normal?
I have a 2.66GHz system and it seems strange that it is cycling between 2GHZ and 2.66GHz.
johnHi John,
I think you'll find that this is a feature of many of Intel's new chips. They clock up and down when not in use to save power. If so, it's the cause of the famous whine in the MacBook Pros, and nothing to be concerned about
