Has anyone completly migrated/moved SBS 2008 to Office 365 ?

Hello All,
We have a client with SBS 2008 and would like to moe all AD/ emails / data / possibly some 3rd party applications  like QuickBooks (This is not confirmed yet) to office 365 and once moved would like to decommission the SBS 2008 box so from that
point onwards everything including AD authentication would be done via office 365.
I have seen articles/information about moving exchange/data etc. but not the whole  infrastructure to office 365 and depend entirely on office 365 without any onsite servers.
Has anyone tested this method? if so please let me know your feedback.
Also what are the cons of depending solely on office 365 apart from the obvious , office365 or internet outages , lack of full control etc.
Regards,
Dhanushka

First off that's not possible.  Unless the application can run natively inside SharePoint, Office 365 does not give you NTFS file share platform for which to install QuickBooks.
Email and SharePoint yes.  Native file shares no.
What can be done however is look over to Azure.  On Azure you can turn on Remote desktop services, host a file sharing server in Azure/then host desktops in azure, use the Essentials role to hook into Office 365.
But bottom line what you think can be done in 365, can't all be done in 365.  It needs Azure.

  • Has anyone used Migration Assistant to move services from one system running Server to a new system?

So, I've purchased a Mac mini to replace my aging Mid 2009 mini on which I've been running Mavericks Server.  In trying to answer the question of how best to move services from the old machine to the new, I've stumbled into the fact that Migration Assistant can apparently migrate not just user data for workstations and laptops, but also service data for servers.  The problem is there isn't much detail in the docs about how good a job it does when going from one machine to another without changing OS releases.  There's a very detailed document in the KB about going from older versions of Server to new (OS X Server: Upgrade and migration from Lion Server or Snow Leopard Server) and a general doc on migrating from another Mac under Mavericks (OS X: How to migrate data from another Mac using Mavericks) but that has no details about Server.
Has anyone used Migration Assistant to move services from one system running Server to a new system?  Are there any details that are particularly important to get right?  Are there things that require manual steps after Migration Assistant is done?
There are other ways I could tackle the problem, of course.  I could simply swap drives between the systems, but the new system has two drives that are bigger, faster, and I intend to mirror them.  That would complicate such an approach.  I'd really like to keep the conversation constrained to a discussion of Migration Assistant as the primary method.

yes. I migrated a server frm lion to mavericks following these notes a while back:
OS X Server: Upgrade and migration from Mountain Lion
i do not recall having any problems with it.

  • Releasing HDD space after moving exchange 2010 (SBS 2011)to Office 365

Hello, I have completed a cut over install to Office 365(email only) form SBS 2011(Exchange 2010). Everything is working perfectly. The customer would like to recover the disk space used by the on premis exchange 2010.
Normally i would just disable Exchange on the SBS server and leave it at that but is there a way to remove all of the mailboxes and/or the database to recover the disk space used by exchange. I know unisntalling exchange is a bad idea on SBS 2011 so would
    like some other options.
    Thanks

    Hi
If you manually setup an outlook profile and enter in all the settings does it work?
In you local DNS you still have an autodiscover record for your local exchange server? Correct?
Hope this helps. Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

  • Migrate from Google Apps to Office 365 with admin credentials only

    Hi team,
We are migrating from Google Apps to Office 365. I know the normal procedure of migrating, but I want to know how to migrate from gmail to office 365 with administrator credentials. Normally for migration, we use user's mail ID and password in CSV file.
But I don't want to use users credentials, instead I want to use only Administrator credentials.
    Thanks in Advance...

A third party tool such as MigrationWiz can accomplish this task.  More information on how to set up administrative access can be found here:

  • Voicemail not working after moving a user to Office 365

We moved 30 or so users in December to Office 365 from on prem Exchange 2007.  Before moving we disabled unified messaging.  Once we moved them voicemail worked and we didn't have to do anything further.
Last week we moved another user and on Exchange online Unified messaging was disabled.  I enabled it but it still isn't working.  I tried disabling and re-enabling but it has not helped.  When dialed it rings and then the call disconnects
when it should send to voicemail.
Any ideas what has changed to stop this working now?

Hi Michael, thanks for the quick reply.  This is what happens when we try for the user with the problem:
    PS C:\> Set-CsUser -Identity "xxxxxxxx" -HostedVoiceMail:1
Set-CsUser : A hosted voice mail policy with empty destination is assigned to

But for a user whose voicemail works (both are setup identically in exchange online):

  • Migration from Captain Mail to Office 365

We are planning to migrate mailbox from Captain Mail (Linux based open source) to office 365 for 800 users. Currently customer have mailbox in local machine as PST. Customer wants to disable local clients and access mails through OWA only. Please
let me know any migration tools available to do the same.
    Thanks in Advance.

For migration tools, you could likely pull the mail from the server using a third party tool like "MigrationWiz".  Alternatively, if you're looking to pull the mail from the user's PST, you could use the PST Capture tool (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36789).
That tool is not multi-threaded though and I can't see doing that for 800 users.
To restrict users to OWA, you could disable MAPI, IMAP and POP3 on the mailbox:

  • Has anyone experienced problems moving from ModileMe to iCloud?

I have MobileMe installed on my iMac 27.  When I try to switch over to iCloud I get an iCloud window that that has a button that says "Move to iCloud".  When I select the button I'm asked to reenter my passward as though I attempting to use the "Find My iPhone" application.  At the bottom of that window I get a button that says "Open icloud.com".  When I select that button I'm asked to enter by iCloud ID and password.  I enter that information and it puts me in to the "Find My IPhone" application.  When I use the the back arrow I get to a window that has Mail, Contact, Calendar, and Find My iPhone icons.  It appears that everything is setup, but when I exit I have to go through the same process everytime as though it didn't move anything to to the Cloud.  When I select iPhoto and Apperture to turn on PhotoStreaming the system tells me I have to log in to iCloud in system preferences to do this.  I see no way to turn on PhotoStreaming on my iMac.  Can anyone help?

I solved the problem.  I first needed to go to my System Preferences under the Apple icon on the right and select MobileMe so I could logout of it.  Once I was logged out, I was able to setup iCloud properly and activate Photo Streaming on my iMac 27.  I got a clue to this solution by reading others who were having a similar problem.

Did they at apple actually TRY this update before putting this out and mess up people's systems.
Of course they tried it and so did every developer it was seeded to, which is why so many millions of users are having no issues with the install. If Preview etc. are not working for you, then something seems to have gone wrong during your install. It may well be hardware related or related to third party programs you already have installed. Perhaps anti-virus or other third party maintenance programs? Or perhaps your system itself has been in dire need of repair and the update has simply triggered or magnified the underlying problem. I would be backing up immediately and performing a clean install after checking the condition of your HD before blaming an update that most users have had no issues with. (Note, you will see people with issues here as it is a troubleshooting Forum, so it may look a common problem. The millions of others have no issues thus never come here).
Hope you get this resolved and enjoy the update as most of us are.

  • Has anyone successfully migrated from mobileme to iCloud?

If so I'd like to hear how it went for you and if there were any gotcha's you had to overcome. I'm updated all my mac's to 10.7.2 and my devices to iO5 so I've just got to start the move.
The only thing I was / am concerned about is losing keychain sync and mailbox sync but for the former I manage all my web password using 1password and dropbox and for the latter I tend to have different mailboxes set up on different devices, so no sweat.
    Is there anything else?
    Ta
    VP.

    Hi,,
I finally got up the nerve to migrate today - like many, I was terrified after everything I'd read here.
It all went very smoothly - touch wood..
First I had to upgrade my Mac from SnowLeopard  to Lion. That took a few hours, but it went OK.
I backed up my contacts and ical to be on the safe side. ( Note: ALL of the calendars, i.e. 'work', 'home', if you have more than one need to be backed up)
Then I logged into MobileMe and I was invited automatically to migrate to iCloud.
I think the only bit of advice I can give is to those of us who did use Mobile Me - and that's to use your mobile me user ID ([email protected]) and not your Apple ID (like we use to log on here) with all of your devices when you migrate. A terrible lack of clarity on Apple's part around that seems to cause a lot of problems.. Indeed when I upgraded my iphone to ios5 my Apple ID was sitting in the iphone's icloud account by default, waiting for me to add my password and migrate. I did actually use it at first, naturally thinking it must be the one I should use... result - an icloud account with no ical or contacts on it.
I deleted it and started again using my mobile me ID once I had migrated to icloud on my Mac and it went smoothly across all my other devices (ipad, iphone and MB air)
There seems to be some idea around the forum that to sync itunes across devices with icloud you need to open another icloud account using the Apple ID you use for buying from iTunes. To be honest I don't really care about syncing my music, so I haven't worked out if that's true or not.
The weird part for me is - how would I know anyway if my itunes purchases are in the cloud or not? How does one find out, short of making a purchase and seeing if it appears elsewhere?
    Good luck..!

  • Has anyone else had Windows Explorer or MS Office products crash with the eLearning suite installed?

I'm running Captivate 6.0.1. I frequently experience Microsoft Windows Explorer crashing or any of the MS Office products crashing as well (Word, Office, etc). Our office is running Windows 7. I'm the only person in our 250+ employee organization who experiences this problem but I'm also the only one with Adobe eLearning Suite Installed. Our I.T. dept has even rebuilt my machine from a clean install and the problem is still there. I'm not sure if it's Adobe related but that's what I suspect is the problem. Any one have any ideas or has this happened to anyone else? Thanks. BTW, there are 2 other staff here that have Captivate installed but not the full e-learning suite and they don't have this problem.

    Hi There,
    Welcome to Adobe Forums.
There is no such known issue that eLearning Suite installation is crashing MS Office or other Microsoft products.
    Please try this:
    1) If you are connected in a domain then first logon to a local admin account or in the built in administrator account.
    2) Disable the third party services and startup items on the computer as per http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 and after restarting the computer install eLearning Suite.
    3) If eLearning Suite and MS Office or other Microsoft products work fine together then enable the services and startup items and restart the computer. Check again.
Please let me know if that helps.
Also let me know if you have anyother Adobe product installed in the computer.
    Thanks

  • Error Creating New Migration Endpoint: Staged Migration from Exchange 2003 to Office 365

I am unable to create a new migration endpoint, receiving the following message:
    ***BEGINQUOTE***
    error
We couldn't discover the migration endpoint. Consider using the Exchange Remote Connectivity Analyzer (https://testexchangeconnectivity.com) to diagnose the connectivity issues.
    ***END QUOTE***
When I visit the test connectivity site and perform the Outlook Anywhere (RPC over HTTP) test, I don't get any errors.
Where do I go from here?

Well... I think I may look silly.
I kept pounding at this problem and discovered the following: in the exchange server box I needed to put the local computer name of my exchange server instance.  In the RPC Proxy server, I needed to put the public domain name of the server.  So
in the first box I just have "mycomputername" and in the second box I have "mail.mydomain.com"  Now it works... I think.

  • On-Prem Lync 2013 moving to Lync Online (Office 365)

We have an office of about 130 users, all of whom use either Lync 2010 or Lync 2013 client to connect to Lync Server 2013 (on-prem). We have recently signed up for Office 365's E3 plan which includes Lync Online, which we plan on using in favor of on-prem
Lync Server. Our internal domain name is the same as the domain we're using be using for Office 365 (i.e. "initech.com"). Externally, I can connect to Lync Online (O365) just fine - however, from my Office's LAN, the external autodiscover records
    can't be resolved.
If I want to cut all Lync users over to Lync Online and stop using Lync Server on-prem, what do I have to do? Any internal DNS records I have to add to make sure autodiscover resolves to Office 365?
I have the following External DNS records set up successfully - should internal DNS mirror any of these?

    Hi cllpd23,
Based on my knowledge, in a hybrid environment, the External DNS records should not be changed to use the Lync Online records.
You should recover your External DNS records settings and only add the SRV record
     “_sipfederationtls._tcp.domain.com 5061  sip.domain.com”.
In internal DNS server, you should add the SRV records “_sipfederationtls._tcp.domain.com 5061 sip.domain.com” and ”_sip._tls.domain.com 443 sip.domain.com”,
and also should point to the on-premises Access Proxy.

  • Migrate SBS 2008 with exchange 2007 to office365

Hi, we have a sbs 2008 with exchange 2007 the boss got the idea to move the E-mail to office 365, i have done some research but still have some questions, now i am not an expert on exchange, could some one tell me if this is a straight operation going from
exchange 2007 to office 365, is it supported  or do we have to move to exchange 2010 and then to office 365?
Thank you very much in advanced.

Yes, going from Exchange 2007 to Office 365 is supported.  You want to run a Migration.
Check out this link for exact instructions on what to do for the migration:
    http://help.outlook.com/en-US/140/ms.exch.ecp.emailmigrationwizardexchangelearnmore.aspx
Then, when you are ready to setup Outlook with Office 365, check out this link to make Outlook use the public Autodiscover rather than SBS Autodiscover:
    http://www.mcbsys.com/techblog/2011/08/using-office-365-in-an-sbs-2008-environment-take-2/
I just did a cutover migration from SBS 2008 to Office 365 using both these websites and it went off very nicely.
    Good luck on your migration.
Oh, and if you only use Office 365 for email, it is $4 a month per user.

  • Removing Exchange 2007 from SBS 2008 (In an Exchange 2010 Coexistance Scenario) - In order to remove 2007 Mailbox Objects from Active Directory and remove the SBS2008 server completely

I'm trying to remove Exchange 2007 from an SBS 2008 server
(Server 2008 Standard FE).  My ultimate goal is to completely remove the SBS 2008 Server from the network environment.
We have an Exchange 2010 Coexistence Scenario and Mailboxes/Public Folders/etc have been moved over to the 2010 mail server, on Server 2008 R2.
I have moved all Shares, FSMO roles, DHCP, DNS, etc over to their respective servers.  We have two full blown DC's in the environment.
I'm ready to remove Exchange 2007 from SBS 2008 and DCPROMO the server.  I can NOT seem to find a TechNet article that shows me how
to proceed in this kind of scenario.  I am trying to use the TechNet article:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd728003(v=ws.10).aspx
This article references Disabling Mailboxes, Removing OAB, Removing Public Folder Databases, then uninstalling Exchange using the Setup Wizard.
When I go to Disable Mailboxes I get the following error:
    Microsoft Exchange Error
Action 'Disable' could not be performed on object 'Username (edited)'.
    Username (edited)
    Failed
    Error:
Object cannot be saved because its ExchangeVersion property is 0.10 (14.0.100.0), which is not supported by the current version 0.1 (8.0.535.0). You will need a later version of Exchange.
    OK
I really don't see why I need to Disable Mailboxes, Remove OAB and Public Folder Databases since they have been moved to 2010.  I just want
to remove Exchange 2007 and DCPROMO this server (actually I just want to remove any lingering Exchange AD Objects referring to the SBS 2008 Server, using the easiest and cleanest method possible).
Can someone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Based on your description, it seems that you are in a migration process (migrate SBS 2008 to Windows Server
2008 R2). Now, you want to remove Exchange Server and demote server. If anything I misunderstand, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
On current situation, please refer to following articles and check if can help you.

  • Removing Exchange 2007 from SBS 2008 after Migrating to Office 365 Mid Sized with DirSync and SSO

We have recently completed off a Migration of Exchange 2007 to Office 365 Mid Sized platform.
I now need to decomission the old SBS 2008 server as they have moved to a Windows Server 2012 R2 server setup for DC, File and print and application servers.
I need to know what are the ramifications of removing the Exchange 2007 server from the SBS 2008 server and will this remove the LegacyDN details from AD and cause any issues with internal emails between users using Outlook linked through to Office365.
I understand that after removing Exchange 2007 there will be no friendly GUI to update and maintain proxyAddress, targetAddress and LegacyDN addresses, I am comfortable doing this in ADSI edit or with a script.
Will this remove the x500 addresses relating to the on premise Exchange Orgainisation and just leave behind the x500 addresses for Exchange Labs which I assume is the x500 addresses for the Azure AD intergration for Office365.

    Hi ,
Thank you for posting your issue in the forum.
I am trying to involve someone familiar with this topic to further look at this issue. There might be some time delay. Appreciate your patience.
