Has anyone used Griffin AirCurve Acoustic Amplifier for iPhone?

The Griffin AirCurve Acoustic Amplifier for iPhone. I saw this product while roaming through the Apple Online Store...looks like it maybe something i can use at work. there were only 3 reviews of it, all good, but i was wondering if anyone else has tried this product with the iPhone

I just did a Google search and found several reviews on the first page.

  • Has anyone used more than one event for one project?

    Hi,
I have an opinion about Final Cut Pro X that hasn't changed since my first few days with it.  I waited to see if I would get used to it.  But, after a fair amount of time, I still am not comfortable with 'Events' and 'Projects'.  The separation of the media and projects creates more problems than solutions with my workflow.
The purpose of it was to add flexibility for both the professionals and consumers using it, but my first impressions are still the same.  The new Event and Project system adds complexity to organization and archiving.  I wouldn't write this if it wasn't enough of a hindrance for me, that I encounter constantly.  I think the new Final Cut Pro X is incredible, but this issue is definitely important to me.
Has anyone out there used more than 1 Event for 1 Project?  Some of us create more than 1 Project for an Event, to make different version of a video, or for brainstorming, or to make a part 1 and part 2 of a video, but I've never had more than 1 Event for 1 Project.  I don't need to use the media from multiple Events for the same Project.  And I've never used it for a reason.  I don't think someone will want to use their Hawaii vacation footage for a Denver vacation project, and a Florida vacation project.  I think we should bring back the connection between Events and Projects in a meaningful way.
This is a throw back to the older days, but that's not always a bad thing.  Let us keep our projects, or timelines, in the Events folder.  Make an area above the JPG section, and PNG section, and MOV section, and call it the Projects section.  Then we can easily find our Projects and add a new Project every time we need it, and organize our files quickly - without having to keep track of more windows. Final Cut Pro X is all about being more simplified than other video programs, and I think this goes right along with that idea.
    Thanks,
    - David

My original fear was that FCPX was just going to be iMovie Pro... It so is not!
People use the interface in different ways. I think that's what most of us like about it, it's flexibiity to accommodate different types of workflows.  For me, I use the Events browser mostly like I'd be using the Finder. All the imported clips I use are referenced by the hard disks on which they reside. I know where to find them in the Event Browser and I know where to find them in the Finder.  I use a lot of stock footage and therefore *reuse* a lot of stock footage from project to project. I'm not going to re-import duplicates into different events because I don't find that the least bit convenient and I do find it a terrible waste of precious HD real estate.
    But that's me.
Some people like to load up everything they're going to use in a single project in a single event... I get that. You can command click your way through a bunch of clips, type E and everything is automatically arranged on your storyline in the order you selected the clips. That is *awesome*!! Instant storyline (/timeline.) Furthermore, for those that need to share projects, it's easier to bundle up the events and projects if they're all together (albeit in two different folders) on one disk (— at least they are always at the top level of the drive and easy to find.)
Keeping your Events media in a different location (satellite drives) and keeping your current project on your *fastest* drive is probably the fastest way to edit (particularly if your satellite drives are Firewire or Thunderbolt [peer-to-peer interfaces don't hog system resources].) There is little cross interference in disk accesses that way. So essentially, you can keep FCPX dealing with original clip data that doesn't need to be quite as fast, reading and writing to slower drives on your system, while letting it plow through the heavy work on your fastest access drive (usually your internal HD.)
By no means is FCPX "more simplified". It has a huge amount of power. It has all the best parts of Color, Soundtrack Pro and Motion built in. It allows you to explore *ideas* in real time rather than having to plan for them a week in advance [layout, round-tripping plans to Color, STP and/or Motion for titling or effects.]  You can grab and move around elements anywhere on your "palette" with simple mouse moves and an occasional key press. The list goes on. Bottom line, it doesn't matter how you organize your events or your projects. It's all about the finished product. And for me, I can turn that around in about 1/5th the time (not claiming it's great — but I think better results in 20% of the time, on average, than it would have taken in Studio.) [Not a professional video editor -- I'm a graphic designer, and I develop Motion graphics for FCPX to make all "you guys" look better.]

  • Has anyone used Paragon NTFS or Tuxera for Median and Project Files

I have read lots of discussions about why this is not a good idea but my two options are to do this or switch to Sony Vargas for everything so it would be good if people could let me know if they have had this working successfully.
So has anyone successfully used either of these 2 NTFS drivers to edit SD/HDV or Prores projects on? My only experience has been using SD footage on an NTFS drive with the free NTFS-3G drivers. This worked fine as long as project files were on non NTFS drive (for same reason if I saved project on NTFS is saves a file with a size of zero bytes).
    Regards,
    Ben
PS I wonder if this thread will stay on topic;).

Macs can read drives that are formatted in NTFS as is. The software you mentioned enables a Mac to write to those drives. That said, you should edit using drives that are optimized for FCP and formatted Mac OS Extended.
Nothing to stop you copying the media from an NTFS drive to work with and then copying the finished result back.
As you are now in the position of having to do this, why not do a test and report back with your results?

  • Has anyone used the reel projection plugin for jQuery?

    Hello to all,
im new at all this website stuff. im creating an online protfolio and want to have a place were each of my characters can be rotated 360. Im using a tutorial i found on the reel plugin. but its not working for me. i have included all the scripts required and have everything set up the same as the person giving the tutorial did. i just cant figure out what is gong wrong. I dont know enough about it all to figure out what is wrong. any help woudl be appriciated.
the scripts to be included are as follows:
    <script src="jquery.js"></script>
    <script src="jquery.reel.js"></script>
    <script src="disableTextSelect.js"></script>
    <script src="jquery-mousewheel.js"></script>
    <script src="ActivateReelTarget.js"></script>
the tutorial had them linke with http://, but i downloaded them and turned them into.js scripts. the ActivateReelTarget is just a script i wrote to activate the reel plugin for the target object. which looks like this:
    $('#image360').reel({ frames: 36 })
other than that all that is needed is the image which i loacated at the top of  my page:
    <!--Start 360 Container-->
                        <div id="360conatiner">
             <!--Start 360-->
            <img id="image360" src="images/RW360.jpg" width="600px", height="526px"/>
            </div>
            <!--End 360-->
            </div>
            <!--End 360 Container-->
its pretty stright foward, so i dont know what im missing?
the comp sheet i made has 36 images in it gong from left to right in a block of 6X6. the image on the page has to be the first image in the block of 6X6. they have to be named the same thing, than the 6X6 comp block just needs to have a -reel extention added to it
This is the site im geting all this from:
    http://developer.practicalecommerce.com/articles/1840-Full-360-Degree-Product-Image-Rotati on-in-JavaScript

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it!  I have read thru your links, and it looks like the colorspace drive is a good option. I guess what I am lookiing for is anyone who has used the one specifically made for Ipad?
Maybe I can be a bit more specific..
I have a macbook pro, and will not be able to take it with me because of severe in country flight weight restriction
    I have an ipad
I have an WD portable hard drive without screen
I will use a portable hard drive as a backup, as well as try not to re-use my cards ( I shoot in raw, and have space for about 5000 images)
The only thing missing is my ability to actually look at some of my images while on the trip, so with the new Hyperdrive for Ipad it seemed to be a convenient solution.
With the Hyperdrive for ipad, I could see my images load, which would make me feel good...lol and then with the ipad actually look at some of them...
I am curious to know if anyone has used it, for a similar situation? Or if I should forgo the ipad all together and get the UDMA colorspace? Or what the diffenece would be?

  • Has anyone used Timpsons phone repair service for a replacement screen on iPhone 4S?

My iPhone 4S has a. cracked screen, but still works OK.
Can anyone comment on Timpsons repair service?  It will cost £40 for the repair, but they do use real glass, not just a plastic screen.

If your phones is in waranty then thats a bad move. Other wise I cannot comment on non Apple repairs, and dont feel this forum is the best place for that. iPhones use specially toughened  glass with a Oleophobic coating, I would not trust 'glass' to be that. Also if you break your phones dies and you need a out of warranty replacement you wont get one buy going down this path.

  • Has anyone used an Otterbox Commuter Case for the iphone 4s on an iphone 4?

I want to get a new case for my iphone 4 and have previously had an Otterbox Commuter Case which I loved due to it's dust covers for the headphone and charger sockets. I much prefer the look of the new commuter case for the 4s around the camera and flash over the one for the 4 and was wondering whether anyone had put their 4 into the 4s case?
    If so, is it ok?
Is there another similar case that has the plugs for the sockets that I'm not aware of?
    Thanks, Niki

You can put your iPhone 4 in a 4S case and it will work just fine. You shouldn't put a 4S in a 4 case (like the Otter Commuter) since the camera sensors are different.

  • Re: Interfaces in Forte - has anyone used them?

We are making use of interfaces extensively and have never had the
slightest problem. Interfaces do not cause any overhead, since they are
mainly a means to support type checking by the compiler. At run-time the
interface does not appear any more.

    Eric,
You are correct, "manipulate anAIFace object" is not really the correct
way of thinking about what is happening. We are really manipulating an
instance of an object through an interface.
In regards to your other statement: "if Project C needs visibility to B,
it must have B as a supplier Plan." Forte does not force this to happen
when you are using interfaces, which is what causes the problem. Let me
expand on my initial example and add enough detail so that you can create
the problem, which surfaces as a deserialization error:
    Project A (No Supplier Plans)
Defines Interfaces: UnitIFace with method GetValue() which returns an
    integer
Project B (Contains A as a Supplier Plan)
Defines Class: Unit with attribute _Value as an integer and method
GetValue() which returns _Value.  Implements interface UnitIFace.
Project C (Contains A as a Supplier Plan)
Defines Class: Square with method Calculate which accepts an
UnitIFace as an input parameter and returns an integer. This class needs
to be setup as a distributed object so that I service object can be
    defined using this class.
Defines Service Object: SqaureSO using the Square class.
Project D (Contains B and C as Supplier Plans)
Defines a class or uses a window that creates an instance of Class B
and passes it to the SquareSO service object that sqaures the value and
    returns an integer.
Once this is setup, use the running man to run everything locally. This
will run fine because the dependencies for the local partition end up
including Projects A, B, C and D. Next, run distributed and move the SO
to a remote partition. Now when you execute you will receive a
deserialization error. This happens because the dependencies for the
remote partition only included project A and C. The partition did not
have the necessary information to deserialize the underlying instance of
Class Unit that is referenced through the inteface UnitIFace.
The problem can be resolved by either adding Project B as a supplier plan
to Project C or ensuring that the interface and class are declared in the
same project as I suggested in my previous message. In either case, this
must be resolved by the programmer since Forte is not yet smart enough to
correctly resolve the project dependencies, even though all of the
information needed to establish the correct dependency hierarchy is
    available.

Subject: RE: Interfaces in Forte - has anyone used them?
    Bradley,
Thanks for that descriptive note on interfaces.
I do have a observation : in that example you gave us, if Project C
needs visibility to B, it must have B as a supplier Plan. Therefore, I
don't quite understand how partioning classes in C would end up with a
run-time errror in distributed mode, given that B supplies C (something
you've perhaps missed out in your example ?).
Also, is it really possible to "manipulate AIFace objects" ? Interfaces
are'nt really objects, they just help implement a compile-time type
    check.
    Thanks.
    Eric Pereira
    Forte Consultant
    ----<snip>------------------
    Example:
    Project A - Contains AIFace
Project B - Contains Class B which implements AIFace, depends on Project
    A
Project C - Contains Classes manipulating AIFace objects, depends on
    Project A
This can run fine locally since the local partition has knowledge of all
the classes in A, B, and C. Now as soon as you throw a service object
    on
classes on Project C and push them into a remote partition, your
application starts failing because that partition does not contain the
information form project B since there is no dependency on that project.
The partition needs the information from project B though since it
contains the definitions for the actual implementation objects, however
there was no way for Forte to determine that need when it generated the
    partition.
This problem is initially eliminated by keeping the interfaces in the
same project as the underlying business objects. But once you start to
have interfaces implemented by multiple classes from multiple projects,
then this won't cover all the bases either. In any case, it is an issue
that you will need to consider at some level when using interfaces.
    Good luck!

With version 3G, you can not create an array of interfaces. I believe
    Forte
will have that feature in version 4 (which is scheduled to be in
    production
at the end of next year).

    Thanks, Doctor Mark

Port Forwarding.....or Port Mapping....as Apple calls it is a difficult and complex configuration method for most users. Because there are so many variables involved in this type of setup, it is not possible to provide a step by step guide that will work for everyone with all devices.
It is possible that a setup guide exists for the the WD drive and AirPort Extreme, but you will have to go looking for it on the Internet. Even if you find one, it may not be tailored to your specific situation or needs.
Sometimes, you can do everything right....at least according to someone's article or "how to" guide, and things still will not work correctly.
In situations like this, when you really don't know what to do, you need to enlist the aid of an IT pro, who will know what to do based on your particular products and unique circumstances. Sometimes....they won't be able to get things working either due to particular circumstances.
But, before you do this, I would strongly recommend that you use a Static IP address for your Internet connection with your ISP. If you do not have this now, contact them to ask them if they offer this type of connection. Expect to pay more for this type of service, of course.

  • Has anyone used the QuickUSB module (Bitswise Systems) to interface to a USB Camera via IMAQ for USB?

Has anyone used the QuickUSB module made by Bitwise Systems with LabVIEW for image acquisition.   I have a USB camera and I'm trying to use the IMAQ for USB controls to no avail.   Any input is appreciated.

Are you using the NI-IMAQ for USB functions or are you calling the QuickUSB libraries from LabVIEW?  Unless the USB camera is DirectShow compliant, then it will not work with the NI-IMAQ for USB driver.  You can use the Code Interface Node in LabVIEW to call external dll's, and it looks like from QuickUSB's website that is the best way to go.  Hope this helps.

I'm thinking of getting the Western Digitial 1 or 2 TB My Book (Pro Edition 2 or Studio Edition) External Drives for use with 2 MacPros. Has anyone used these and could I use them with Time Machine? Would I have to reformat them for Time Machine?
    Thanks!

You may, and probably want to format them, even if not TM use, I would anyway. Not everyone is happy with MyBook Pro and TM.
I buy bare FW devices and add disk drive of choice, or just use OWC
    http://www.macsales.com/firewire and works well.
FW800 is also better on the new Mac Pro

I am not certain, but I believe there is a version of Dazzle for the Mac. However, it is not the route I would chose.
You really need a proper analogue to digital converter, like the ADVC110, to connect to your camera via the usual RCA cables, and to your Mac via firewire.

  • Has anyone used or researched using Peavey AmpKit LiNK and it's Applications in GB for the iPad?

Has anyone used or resarched using Peavey AmpKit LiNK Hi-Fidelity Guitar Interface for Ampkit and Ampkit+ Applications on the ipad and with GarageBand. It seems that AmpKit unit gets better reviews than the iRig as an interface...
A couple of questions... Does it work with GB (iPad and GB 11)... There is a recording function on the Ampkit Application... would this be compataible with GB for the ipad and also GB11 on the imac...
Also if you have any experinces / thoughts on the usabilitiy of the AmpKit unit with the ipad that would be great...

I have both the Ampkit link and a iRig. The AmpKit link is much better it sounds about the same as the iRig but much less noise. It works great with Garageband. I don't use the Ampkit software for recording. I have used AmpKit+ and Amplitube Fender on the ipad plugged into a PA and as a modeler for recording in Garageband (Mac).
