Stuck on FF4.0. Update to 5.0 fails to install.Ok I'll try that when I have time. TYVM I think your right, it should work.
Just haven't been to worried about it as 4.0 is doing ok with me. But I may as well get the newer version huh? -
When updating Mozilla, I get this message:

What should be done? With that one, I'd try updating using a .dmg installer downloaded from the Apple Website:

I have the latest version of firefox. I know this because your website says so. But for some reason, my current firefox keeps trying to install a new version by "trying" to install a patch. But it fails every time.
I cant say exactly when this started. A few weeks ago, firefox was behaving erratically (crashing for no reason at every launch due to some video plugin fail) but i uninstalled and reinstalled (a few times) and it was fine after the last one.If files already have been downloaded then remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder.

Am unable to update my firefox and also cannot install any other browser like chrome or opera. I had uninstalled Chrome and cannot re install it. My internet explorer is not working as well. So cannot take the risk of uninstalling firefox and install a fresh version (it might fail). However I have scanned and checked my computer as far as possible with multiple programmes and no trouble is reported. All other programmes in my PC are running fine. Windows, internet security is getting updated smoothly. The only problem here is installing browser(s) or updating it.
I am on win 7 64 bit system. Firefox version is 31. It iis constantly asking me to update to 32.0.2. I have tried all specified ways to update it, but failed.Try this:
*Download the full Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop<br>https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
*Start the installation with a double-click on the desktop icon
Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
All these programs have free versions.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

Firefox [[Safe mode]] is a diagnostic mode that allows troubleshooting.<br />
You start the same version, only some features are disable like add-ons (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions).

I click on Firefox and it says that Firefox is installing your updates and will start in a few minutes. Then I get "The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer, and then restart Firefox to try again." this cycle never ends. Do I need to deinstall Firefox and re-install? If I do that, do i lose all of my bookmarks, etc?
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update (Software Update not working properly)
Remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder:
*C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates

*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
You can skip the step to create a new profile, that is not necessary for this issue.

I'm using Firefox 4 Beta and I tryed install update but I dont got success. Now every time that I go start the browser is displayed the mensage: "The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer, and then restart Firefox to try again"
My release is installed not in default drive C:\. I installed in the other Partition on my PC.
I don't have other release installed.Try a clean re-install.
* Download the setup file from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/RC (this is for the Firefox 4 release candidate)
* Uninstall Firefox, do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data"
* Delete the Firefox installation directory - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Installation_directory
* Re-install Firefox
This process does not remove the Firefox user data such as bookmarks and passwords which are stored elsewhere in the profile folder.
You may also need to manually reset the Software Update feature by deleting the software update files as shown in the "Software Update not working properly" section here - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update -

It may be the problem. Meanwhile I went to Admin/Owner side and did some cleaning -- including trying to reload my Favorite/Bookmarks that have always carried forth from previous levels of Windows XP and earlier.
The new computer here did not grab the Bookmarks from the previous, and yesterday I thought I had them loaded, and today went to Worker-Bee side and they are not showing.
About those add-ons... I have no idea, but think I got everything up to date yesterday. I will look at your earlier reply tomorrow or this weekend when I have more time at home to learn from it.
Thank you for your time in helping.

Help>About Firefox> says I am using Firefox/3.6.10./GTB7.1 I get a note from Mozilla that there is an update. I download it after granting permission to change my machine. I say OK. A green bar slides across the monitor announcing that the update is being downloaded. When I then assume it is being installed I get the following error: The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer, and then restart Firefox to try again. There are no other copies running. The machine is not on a network. I am using WIN7

When I click on Firefox the first time it says "Foxfire is installing your updates and will start in a few moments…. (with a green bar)" then it says "Software Update Failed (in blue) with an exclamation mark inside a yellow triangle)
The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer, and then restart Firefox to try again." When I click the ok, Firefox opens up. If I open another Firefox window with the previous one still running, it doesn't give me any of these messages, it just opens normally.
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox openedIf you can't install on top of the current installation then you need to delete or rename the current Firefox program folder to do a clean install.
It is possible that your security software is using or locking files, so you can try to temporarily disable that software during the installation. -
I have tried running a manual update but I still receive the same error "Update Failed : The update could not be installed. All aspects of FF appear to be working normally.
Some users have reported problems with AVG. Disable it for now.

When I open firefox I get an error message "update could not be installed check for duplcates"
Error message: The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer, and then restart Firefox and try again.
I have uninstalled all versions of Firefox. Then went to the Internet through Explorer and downloaded from scratch. A few days later I started getting the message again. If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version and delete the Firefox program folder to remove any leftover files.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
*Firefox 10.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data because all profile folders will be removed.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
