Having a user autologin in the background?

I have a user on my Leopard Server that needs to have a few programs running all the time, and it's important that they restart by themselves if the power goes out or similar. But I don't want to use the standard autologin as that will give anyone in front of the computer access to this users account.
So basically I'm looking for a way to autologin this user in the background. Is this possible?

The problem ISN'T with Flash Player. It's with IE11. Yahoo, Facebook, BBC, CBC, ESPN, NFL and NBA websites have all reported problems with IE11 specifically. The sites don't recognize the browser and therefore can't recognize the plugins in the browser. It's all in the code of IE11.
I have machines with XP, Vista, 7, 8 and 8.1 and they ALL run 11.9.900.170 with IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari and Opera. IE11 is the only one that causes problems, on Win 7, 8 and 8.1. The other browser work fine in ALL OS builds.
I designs websites as a freelancer, and I use IE for testing only. For everyday use, it's a "train wreck" to say the least. It doesn't parse CSS properly, and everything I build has to be "tweaked" to make it work. Javascripts can be problematic with IE too, but the recognition thing is just the latest sign that Microsoft did no "real world" testing of it before they unleashed it on the Windows world. So far, their only response to the millions of complaints, which started as soon as it was released October 18... is this: "Use Compatibility View for affected sites". To date, there is no indication that they intend to actually fix their code, so million of pages won't see IE11 as an "unknown browser".
Windows 98 (1st Edition), Windows ME, XP (Service Pack 1), IE7, VIsta, Windows 8... ALL have been abominable. That gives Microsoft about a .500 batting record when it comes to major new products over the last fifteen years. That's why I use Firefox on a Mac. While not everyone can afford to switch to Mac, Firefox is free, as are Chrome, Safari and Opera. Chrome isn't very popular because it's bundled with other things, and it's a resource hog, but there's nothing apart from pure stubbornness keeping people, who aren't locked down at work, from dumping Internet Exploder in favor of something that works all the time.

How can I change the background color in text box using RGB format

Can some one tell me if Mac Pages (version 5.0) allows users to customize the background color of a text box using RGB color format? It appears that the text color can be changed using RGB but background color is limited to a few standard colors. Thanks

They are just sample swatches, use the Color Picker to choose anything you want.

Running CM40 in the background

Hi Gurus,
I am having trouble scheduling CM40 in the background. The way I want to use it is to dispatch according to specific work centers. So I have a first variant that selects Redefine selection, lists an overall profile, Dispatch as the action and execute job at once online. I also tried execute background job at once too. Therefore, once you hit execute, it takes you to the next screen.
My second variant on the next screen is set to select specific work centers and plant. Then I hit execute to start the job.
This all works fine if I do it in the foreground manually. Once I schedule the jobs in SM36, it does not work. I used 2 steps in SM36:
RCCYMAB1: with variant ABC
RCCRY000: with variant XYZ
The job ran fine but didnt execute anything. The job log gave me a message to enter selection criteria.
Has anyone ran into this problem when executing CM40 in the background for selected work centers only?

However, when dispatching using CM40 the planned orders are dispatched in the correct sequence per PLAF-SEQNR. However, ONLY when I choose "Dispatch at earliest point in time" in the strategy profile. But when I use this indicator, it pulls all planned orders in back-to-back-to-back, with no gaps. So if I have an MRP generated planned order with a start of 4/1/2010, it will get dispatched for example to 1/1/2010 if not enough planned orders/demand is out there to fill up to the desired MRP start date.
Is there any way to dispatch using the sequence number, but also leave gaps?

I have heard that if you don't kill the apps running in the background, they will drain your battery, slow your other apps down, and could be using your data without any warning. I've looked all over the place for a definitive answer to this, but different people and websites provide conflicting responses and I haven't found any useful information regarding this issue directly from Apple. If anyone knows whether or not having apps constantly running in the background is harmful in anyway (and has a credible resource to back up their claim) let me know and provide a link to the answer if possible.

What do you mean 'running in the background'? Something that is 'running' will definitely use battery, nothing runs on air or whatever. If an app uses data while it's 'running' then it will use data. Why do you need a link, it's common sense isn't it? Slow the phone down? That I can't say definitively, but it stands to reason that it will.

It depends a lot on what you have installed and what apps you run. Here's a suggestion: Get Little Snitch and see what processes are accessing your internet connection.

Having a problem with mini dvi to hdmi. Can see the background, but must move all screens all the way to the right to see on tv. Any solutions?

I can connect and see the background picture from my macbook (approx 4 years old) but in order to see any screens or video, I have to move the screen almost all the way off the macbook display to the right. Any ideas why this would happen? Also, there is no audio, although when I bought the adapter and cable at the Mac store, they assured me it would handle both.

You have the display set in Extended Desktop mode. In System Preferences>Displays on the MacBook screen there should be an Arrangement tab when you have the MacBook hooked up to the TV and both screens working. When you click the Arrangement tab do you see two monitors side by side? One of them will have a Menu Bar at the top. Just click on the Menu Bar and drag it to the second monitor. That will makethe second monitor your main screen. You can now use your MacBook in ClamshellMode with a wired or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131 When you disconnect from the TV your Menu Bar will automatically change back to the MacBook.
Or if you want to work on the MacBook screen while showing it on a TV you can check the Mirror Display box on the lower left hand side of the Arrangement tab under the two monitors box.
No Mini-DVI adapter can carry audio. The only MacBook that sends audio is the Mid 2010 model 7,1 through a Mini DisplayPort.
If you connect the MacBook using a Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter you will probably need to use external speakers or a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs connected to a stereo system for audio if your TV doesn't have separate RCA input plugs for audio with the HDMI plug. The Mini-DVI to HDMI doesn't carry audio and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI.

Do I make all the files sharable to all the NOW users on the mac then just delete the files? Or can i erase my account that I made when starting up my new mac and then just use the one with the transferred files?

Sorry. /Users is a folder path. It would be similar to C:\Users (if that exists on Windows).
So, in the Finder, select Computer from the Go menu.
You'll see Macintosh HD, double-click that to open it.
In there you'll see several folders. One is Users. That is where all the user Home folders exist. Select the other account's home folder and go to step 3.
If you have any more confusion, please stop and ask. We'll get there.
If you feel more comfortable, you can just log into that other account and move the files into /Users/Shared.
Then, log into the account you wish to use and copy the files from the Shared folder and paste them into your Home folder, wherever they belong, Documents, Music, Pictures, etc. That just takes a little more work. Transferring them into Shared, and then copying into your home sets the permissions on the files so that you won't have a problem accessing them later. The steps I provided just prevent you from having to do the double move, since you are not going to use the old account once you are done.
Quick unix shorthand. If someone gives you a file path that begins with a /, that means the root of the hard drive, ie Macintosh HD (if you haven't renamed it). The path separator in unix is /, not \.
A path that starts with ~/ means your Home folder, the one inside /Users named with your account name.

What's the problem with having multiple users with the same UID?

I've got three edit systems connected to the SAN using open directory off our server.
I want all edit systems to have read/write access to everything created. I don't need to protect anything from any of the systems. With all three systems logged on using the same user, I never have to change permissions.
The other cool thing about this is that Final Cut Pro will let me know if someone else is modifying a project that I have open with the warning:
“The project "projectName" has been modified externally. If another user is working on it, saving will overwrite their changes. Do you still want to save?”
This sounds great, right?

So why is it bad to have two (or more) users with the same UID?
I can see that in some situations it means that you can't prevent people from read/write privileges. But I don't want to restrict privileges.
What am I missing? With all of these warnings, it seems like if I do this my edit systems could all explode or something. Please help me understand the potential ramifications of having three users have the same UID.

1) If you have OD set up and "editor" has UID 1111, then when they log in to any machine that's bound to OD as editor, they will get UID 1111. Therefore, there won't be any of these permission errors. This is typically the recommended approach.
2) I assume you mean "You'd prefer to not using open directory?" Whatever the case, OD isn't mandatory with Xsan -- it's just that with multiple user accounts, managing them centrally tends to be easier. For 3 or 4 accounts and 3 or 4 machines maybe it's no big deal. If you go larger, it could get a lot more complicated. That said, if you set it up such that each machine has the exact same set of users (as you said, Mary = UID 502, Fred = UID 503, William = UID 504), then you can do what you want. Mary can log in from multiple machines at the same time, and in general you won't have permissions problems. Of course, if you try and read and write the same file from multiple workstations at the same time, you will get file locking issues, which will prohibit somebody from successfully writing the file.
File locking issues are different from general permissions errors. The former basically says "hey, someone else is editing this file. Therefore I won't let you edit it right now... you can read it if you want though." Permissions means somebody saves it, and Xsan thinks you saved it and own the file, when you really don't.

I have tried all of the sounds in Prem cs6 but didn't work. My question is, do I need to get a separate sound software download and install to be able to use it?

In the CS versions, there was some audio capability in PrPro but you needed to get a separate audio program for major work. Lessening a baby definitely qualifies as major work. That's lessening, i dont mean eliminating. Adobe's audio program is Audition. There are others "out there'. In the CC versions one just downloads Audution also.

How to change the user of a cancelled background (batch) job?

Hi All,
I have a batch job which is being cancelled as the reference user account is locked. I want to update the job with a new user.
How can I change the user for a cancelled job? I am able to change the user for a scheduled job (by right clicking the job >> Change) but not for a cancelled job.
I am getting the error: "<<Job Name>> cannot be changed due to its status" when trying to change the cancelled job.
Please help.

1) Goto <b>SM37</b>
2) Select the cancelled job and goto menu bar select <b>Job</b> ) click on change.
3) Click on step tab
4) Select the job and click on change tab. Change the user name and save.

If you refresh the page and start over, the problem doesn't happen. But on the first page load it always seems to happen.
Here is a link to the module I am working with. If you let the video play for a couple seconds on the first slide, and then click a navigation link to another slide, you will still hear the audio from the first slide playing.
