Having different color intensity in iPhoto from PSE4

I organize and stop my photos in iPhoto 06. I do my editing in Photoshop Elements 4. I notice when I bring my photos from PSE4 back into iPhoto the intensity of the colors is a lot lighter. In other words, when I view a photo in PSE4 the color intensity is deeper/richer. When I bring it back into iPhoto the photo looks almost blown out. When I print a photo from iPhoto it has that same blown out look. How do I get both applications to look the same?

Good catch. The workaround is obvious.
In order for Adobe to be sure to see the problem, you ought to post at the official bug site.

  • Is it possible to transfer a catalog from PSE4 to PSE11?

    I am having difficulties in transferring my catalog from PSE4, on my old PC, to PSE11 on my new one. The main problem relates to the position of captions in images in full screen mode. In an online chat yesterday with an Adobe Technical Support guy, I was advised that a PSE4 catalog cannot be upgraded to PSE11. He suggested that it may be possible to achieve this by transferring the catalog from PSE4 to PSE6 or 9 and from there to PSE11, although he subsequently indicated that this may not resolve the difficulties either. Surely this cannot be correct, can it?

    While I have no experience going from PSE4 to PSE11, the docs don't say there are any limitations on which earlier versions can be upgraded.

    Like much of the advice you get from Adobe, I think this is way off the mark — but I have never tried this either

    I have no idea what you mean by this, could you provide a screen capture?

  • IPhoto - is it using two different color spaces?

    I know I should have a better handle on this whole question by now, but am still confused by the 1.8 vs. 2.2 Gamma issue.
    On the recent advice of an Apple PhotoServices tech, I've just changed my main display's Gamma from the default 1.8 to the darker 2.2 -- hoping to maximize consistency between what I see onscreen and what I'll receive in my printed Calendar order. (Everything else is still based on the default "Cinema HD" profile.)
    Using one particular JPEG image as a test, I'm seeing something curious:
    In Aperture, the image's thumb and its full-screen version look basically the same. But in iPhoto, that same image looks quite different depending on whether I'm viewing it as a thumb (or as an image placed in a Calendar theme), vs. when I double-click that image and see it in iPhoto's Editor window.
    When I see it in iPhoto's editing mode, it suddenly looks noticeably lighter -- as if I'd switched my display back to the old 1.8 Gamma.
    Can anyone enlighten me here (pardon the pun)? Why does iPhoto's editor window seem to display an image differently than other programs, or even than elsewhere in iPhoto itself? And why am I only seeing this discrepancy after setting my display to the 2.2 Gamma?

    Okay --
    The plot thickens. I followed your suggestion, Terence, and did some tests. Here are the interesting (if confusing) results:
    When I open anything from within the iPhotoLibrary folder using Preview, Preview gives the Color Profile info as follows:
    Color Model: RGB
    ColorSync Profile: Generic RGB Profile
    This seems to apply to anything from within the iPhotoLibrary package, whether we’re talking images from the Originals folder, from the Modified folder, or thumbs from the Data folder. And they all (when viewed in Preview) look the same, and they all look “correct” in terms of general contrast.
    BUT...
    When I do a Finder “Get Info” on those same files, suddenly there are differences.
    1) from the Modified folder:
    Most images from the Modified folder now say (in Get Info’s “More Info” pane):
    Color space: RGB
    Profile name: Adobe RGB (1998)*
    * (A few give the Profile name as “sRGB IEC61966-2.1”, and the one that got saved as a .psd file says “Camera Sync Profile”. The strange thing is I can’t seem to find any pattern between the images which were modified using my “external editor” -- Photoshop Elements -- vs. the ones which were edited using only iPhoto’s adjustment tools. The bulk of them all say “Adobe RGB (1998)” as the Profile Name.)
    Note that these are the same images which, when opened in Preview, ALL claim the “Generic RGB Profile” -- and all look correct under those circumstances.
    2) from the Data folder:
    Meantime, ALL the thumbnail images which iPhoto has created for its Data folder, when “Get Info’d” in the Finder, all state their Profile name as “sRGB IEC61966-2.1”.
    Open the same thumb image in Preview, and it’s back to “Generic RGB Profile” (as well as back to looking correct and not too dark).
    3) from the Originals folder:
    Finally, images from iPhoto’s Originals folder give no color profile data whatsoever in the “More info” pane of the Finder’s Get Info window. So is this the same as having the “Generic RGB Profile”?
    In any case, here are three different folders (Originals, Modified, and Data), and iPhoto appears to be using a different color profile for the images contained in each one -- and in the case of the Modified folder, several different profiles.
    Yet all of these images, when opened in Preview, appear to use the “Generic RGB Profile” -- and all appear as they should in terms of Gamma/contrast on screen -- while when viewed within iPhoto the same image will look quite different depending on whether it’s being seen in iPhoto’s regular window (as a thumb or as part of a Calendar layout, for instance -- all too dark) or in iPhoto’s editing window, in which case it suddenly looks fine.
    The other mystery is why this discrepancy between iPhoto’s regular viewer and its editing window wasn’t apparent when my display was set to the default 1.8 Gamma; it’s only become an issue under the new (AppleSupport-recommended) 2.2 setting.

    My brain officially hurts now. (I guess this is just more evidence that Computers and the Internet will all be very nice if they can finally just get them working.)
    Any help in interpreting this data will, as always, be much appreciated.

    That is not a feature of iPhoto - suggest to Apple - iPhoto Menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback.
    Additionally I have no idea what you are saying here
    I have found the color palettes but can't seem to incorporate them into my backgrounds palette.
    And it always helps for you to dientify the version of iPhoto that you are using

  • Is there a way to change the color of the Bezier Curves and points to a different color other than black  I find it perplexing while setting points and curves working on a photo that needs to be separated from it's background for placement on transparent

    Is there a way to change the color of the Bezier Curves and points to a different color other than black  I find it perplexing while setting points and curves working on a photo that needs to be separated from it's background for placement on transparent backgrounds. Any thoughts?

    Yes. Well, sort of: instead of a "path", set the pen tool to "shape" in the tool properties. Then set the fill colour to transparent, and the stroke colour to the colour you want. You can also set the stroke width.
    Not perfect, but at least you can see the path more clearly - the anchor points and handles still remain the default colour. Open the path panel, and right-mouse click the path shape to create a selection based on that shape. The Paths panel menu also allows you to create work paths based on that shape.
    Unfortunately when you try to move the handles the black thin outline appears again until you release the mouse button.
    This is one of several things that works better in Photoline: in Photoline, once the path is set to a specific colour, editing the path uses the actual colour and stroke width. which is extremely handy for creating path based selection with awkward background colours and/or a high resolution screen. In Photoline the handles and bezier points are also much, much larger, which makes it rather simpler to work with as well - especially on a higher resolution screen. And when selected the handles and points are a clear red with a black outline - again easier to spot and identify. I just works better, in my opinion.

  • Different Colors when printing from Photoshop and InDesign CS3

    Different Colors when printing from Photoshop and InDesign CS3
    I have the following problem:
    When printing from Photoshop or InDesign to a PostScript printer, Adobe recommends to let Photoshop handle the colors (I use the German version, so I don't know the exact term used, it changes slightly in all CS3 apps anyway).
    The manufacturer however told me to let the PostScript printer handle the colors.
    When I chose this option in Ps's print dialog and then choose ISO Coated as the printer pfofile, the results are fine.
    But when I place the exact same image in an InDesign file and print from InDesign or export to PDF and print via Acrobat, again using "Printer handles colors", the results are the exact same as if I had used Ps and chosen to let Ps handle the colors (way too saturated and a bit too red).
    ·Photoshop CS3
    ·InDesign CS3
    ·Test image is a TIFF in CMYK Fogra 27 Coated (which is also the working color space in Ps and ID.
    ·Printer: Xerox Docucolor 3535
    ·Printer profile: ISO Coated
    How can I make sure the printer handles the colors in other CS3 apps than Ps? I tried it with ID's print dialog (translated from the German version: Color Management > Options > Color Handling: PostScript-printer decides colors).
    Thanks a lot!

    RE: "You don't indicate what Xerox printers you have"
    In my first post I named it, is that the information you need?
    Docucolor 3535 using Splash 3535
    That's interesting, so I have to find a way to turn off the printer's Color Management function? I mailed them, hope they can tell me how to do it easily. They usually just tell me to not use any profiles and so on, but that's the general rule in this area, I'm really tired of hearing it. Everybody seems to think profiles and LAB mode are nuclear science and I should stay away from it.
    Anyway, the test image I'm using is a simple photograph (size A3, 300dpi), so no transparencies at all. I'm placing this image into an equally large ID file and print it from ID, then export it to PDF-X/3 and print it from Acrobat. Hope that helps.

  • Copying iPhotos from my iMac to my Nook Color

    How do I copy iPhotos from my iMac to my Nook Color?

    File -> Export. Select the format that the Nook supports - probably Jpeg - and complete the export to the desktop. Then you'll need to consult the Nook manual for how to get it on there.
    Right click or control click on the iPhoto Library in your Pictures folder and "show package contents" inside is a folder called Originals, Finder > duplicate it and move OriginalsCopy out
    1. This won't get any edited versions, only exporting will
    2. The folders are renamed in iPhoto 11.

  • Printing from LR has a different color cast.

    I have Windows Vista and the latest version of LR and everytime I print using LR the print preview shows a different color and so does the print. When i use the same picture and print using PSCS3 or any other application it looks good. I have tried changing all the settings from within LR under the printer properties but nothing seems to help.
    I changed all of the computers default profile to ProPhoto and now everything from within LR looks good but everything else looks awfull.
    I also tried changing the PSCS3 to ProPhoto hoping that would help but it seems the only thing to do is not to color manage when in PSC3.
    It seems its only when I shoot in RAW.
    Please help!

    >I have Windows Vista and the latest version of LR and everytime I print using LR the print preview shows a different color and so does the print. There are problems with printing in Lightroom from Vista. Some drivers don't allow you to turn off color management in the driver. Sometimes the only remedy is to let the driver manage. Also make sure you have the very very latest version of the driver.
    >I changed all of the computers default profile to ProPhoto and now everything from within LR looks good but everything else looks awfull.
    That is an extremely bad idea. You need to profile your monitor. Never assume a profile such as prophoto. At most, delete the profile in the monitor's preference, effectively making your computer assume sRGB for the monitor.
    >I also tried changing the PSCS3 to ProPhoto hoping that would help but it seems the only thing to do is not to color manage when in PSC3.
    And that is the absolute worst idea. In Photoshop, set a standard space as the working space, such as sRGB, adobeRGB, or prophoto and set it up to ALWAYS respect embedded profiles. Otherwise you are guaranteeing incorrect color. Also, do not try doing any color critical work without profiling your monitor. Not doing so will always frustrate your efforts at printing. Lastly, never assume a canned profile for your monitor. They are almost always incorrect and actually have corrupt perceptual rendering profiles, tripping up color in Lightroom. • Digital clock which randomly selects different colors from Applet

    Hi,
    I relatively new to java, what I'm trying to do is list about five colours in my Applet and pass the colours into my java code, and maybe the font.....
    I want to be able to Display a digital clock which randomly selects different colours which were passed from my Applet
    Thanks for any help
    Zip
    Clock Code:
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.applet.*;
    import java.util.*;
    import java.text.*;
    public class dclock extends Applet implements Runnable{
    Thread animThread = null;
    int delay = 1000;
    public void init(){}
    public void paint (Graphics g){
    // get the time
    Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance();
    Date date = cal.getTime();
    // format it and display it
    DateFormat dateFormatter =DateFormat.getTimeInstance();
    g.drawString(dateFormatter.format(date), 5, 10);
    public void start(){
    if(animThread == null){
    animThread = new Thread(this,"Animation");
    animThread.start();
    public void stop(){animThread = null;}
    public void run(){
    while(animThread !=null){
    try{ Thread.sleep(delay);}
    catch(InterruptedException e){};
    repaint();
    //sec++;
    }

    Why doesn't the clock just decide what colour it is going to be? If you need to pass the colour choices in, just let the clock accept a collection of colours in its constructor or something. I don't understand what bit of this you are having problems with as you haven't really explained. Please also use code tags.

  • I accidently somehow erased iphoto from my computer!! i really need help on how to get it back without having to buy it! please help me !

    I somehow erased iphoto from my computer when i was clearing out all unwanted pictures fromt he all images folder , i have no idea what i did, my computer went from 83 g left to 103gs now so i'm panicking !!
    please help me i have no idea on what to do!

    Did you erase iPhoto (an application in your applications folder), the iPhoto library (a database file in yoru pictures folder) or images inside of the iPhoto library which will cause iPhoto to not operate correctly?
    If you deleted images inside of the iPhoto library using the all images display (it is not a folder but a display of all image photos on yoru computer) and have emptied the trash then your optiopns are very simple - restore from your backup prior to deleting the images, purcshase file recovery software like file savage for one - http://subrosasoft.com/OSXSoftware/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id= 1 - have a file recovery company recover your files or go forward without them.

  • Colors look very different when saving to jpg from psd

    I'm working on a CMYK image and when I save it to jpg from photoshop CS6, I get this difference in color:
    In photoshop:
    Viewed from Preview as JPG:
    I can't figure out what's causing this color change... I've never had problems saving to jpg before...
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    When you save the jpeg are you using Save As... or Save For Web...? To keep the jpeg mode as CMYK you have to use Save As and if you want the jpeg's CMYK preview to match in other color managed applications you have to check Embed Color Profile.
    In the Preview app if you choose Tools>Show Inspector the dialog will tell you what profile is embedded. In Photoshop if you choose Document profile from the pop-up in the window's lower left corner, the document's assigned profile will be listed. The Preview and Photoshop profiles have to match in order to get the same color soft proof:

    I'm backing-up my son's MacBook Pro and I've been able to zip all of his data, but the resulting zip file is very, very large. I'd like to exclude iPhoto from the backup, but cannot figure out the correct sequence of characters to get the exclude to work. The beginning part of the command works: zip -r  -v  -9 Backups/KevDocs00 Pictures/*
    It's the extra piece of the command I cannot figure out.  I've tried:
    -x”*/Pictures/iPhoto Library/”
    -x"/Pictures/iPhoto Library/*”
    -x"Pictures/iPhoto Library/*”
    -x”*/Users/username/Pictures/iPhoto\ Library/”

    -x”/Users/username/Pictures/iPhoto\ Library/*”
    -x”*/\Users/username/Pictures/iPhoto\ Library/”
    HELP!

    I don't really understand your question/statement.
    I zipping a few folders on my sons MacBookPro, then my desktop will copy that zip file to my desktop where it will be part of my usualy backup process.

  • Jpgs different color in bridge

    Starting today, jpgs that i save look different in bridge than they do in photoshop.
    This is not true about jpgs that I saved before today. They look the same in bridge and PS.
    The jpgs I'm saving now appear distinctly warmer than they do in Photoshop.
    It also appears to be a bridge only problem. I've imported some examples to iPhoto. They look the same in iPhoto and Photoshop, but look reddish in Bridge.
    It also seems to be specific to .jpgs. I'm not having the same problem with RAWs from ACR, or if I save a file to tiff. In both those cases, bridge previews the image to look the same as it does in Photoshop.
    Any ideas?
    Duffy Pratt

    I've also seen a magenta shift in JPG thumbnails in Bridge. I've isolated the problem on my computer to when JPGs are saved in progressive format. Choosing Baseline ("Standard") in the jpg options dialog box is the workaround.
    This one appears dangerous because it CHANGES the RGB color numbers of a file upon opening if you use Camera Raw to open it from Bridge. BTW, I'm using Camera Raw 4.3.1.
    Steps to reproduce:
    *Make a new document in Photoshop.
    *Fill with 50% gray - check color numbers with eyedropper ->128,128,128
    *Save file as a jpg with Progressive selected. Close.
    *View in Bridge - looks fine
    *Click on thumbnail in Bridge - it turns magenta.
    *Double-click to open in Camera Raw from Bridge (a preference setting) and hold cursor over the now magenta-ish gray document. New numbers are 132,125,132. Definitely magenta.
    *Click the Open Image button to open it in Photoshop and the altered color numbers (132,125,132)now show in Photoshop.
    As I mentioned, an experiment using Baseline settings in the JPG options works around the issue for me.
