Having problems with my email

I've set up my main email account with the mail icon on my dock, and it seems like every time I log on I have trouble with it. At one point it wasn't letting me send any emails because it said my password was wrong (which it wasn't; I got that fixed), now every time I get onto it I have to re-connect it. It's very possible that part of this is because the wireless internet connection I have access to is pretty crappy and I also have to re-connect that about every time I get on the internet, but now with my email, it'll say "Receiving 1 of 8 messages" and then when it's done I won't have any new emails. They're nowhere to be found - not in my junk mail, my trash, anywhere. I'm kind of concerned that I'm just not getting over half of my emails.

Hi Maggie90 - yes it sounds like you are having WiFi issues. Your MacBook should be just fine when it comes to WiFi so it is probably the router sending out the WiFi - that's generally the problem.
You don't say if you have a Mac email account or Gmail or Yahoo... that makes a difference. Mac email is most efficient while Gmail and other third party email venders are known for delivery problems and sending problems.
But the 1 out of 8 resulting in none is clearly connecting to your email account, finding 8 messages and starting to download them then losing the connection resulting in no emails received.
So how to check if it is your router? Throw your MBP into the car or backpack and head off to a cafe with free wifi. Open it up and connect then try to download your emails. If you get them without a problem and can email outgong without a problem then it is your router's Wifi and it may need to be reset. If the problem remains at the cafe then it could be a MBP problem and drop by the Genius Bar and have them check it for you.

    It sounds like your iPad all of a sudden seems to be restarting out of no where. If you haven't called AppleCare yet, I would start with quitting either the app that seems to be causing the issue, or all the apps if a single doesn't seem to be the culprit. 
    iOS: Force an app to close
    Double-click the Home button.
    Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
    Swipe the app up to close it.
    When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:
    iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    If the issue persists, backup your device to iTunes, then restore it as new and verify that it works. 
    How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
    If it does, then restore your backup to either verify it still works and the software just needed reinstalled, or isolate the issue to the backup file itself.

    In your email settings on the phone check to make sure it is set to receive emails on cellular network.  It's a feature you can turn off so your phone isn't constantly updating emails on the cell network, but if you are usually in a place with wifi and aren't concerned about going over your data allowance, you can turn it back on.

  • C'mon Apple! So many people having problems with their email after upgrading to Yosemite. Sort it out!

    This is driving me mad! Uploaded Yosemite and my email was fine for a few days then bam! My virgin.net account goes down and cannot send emails from it at all, now a couple of weeks later cannot receive emails on that account at all! Which is not good seeing as I have two thousand beautiful expensive photographers business portfolio Z cards with that email address on it! So many people having the same problem so obviously its to do with the software, I thought by now programs would be tested to the max before being released?

    I have had the problem with Mail not connecting to one of my ISPs, and could not find a fix other than allowing insecure authentication - which I am very reluctant to do.
    Today I was at work, using my MacBook Air, and I noticed that it was connecting OK. So at home I rechecked my iMac, but it was still not connecting. Then I compared the settings in Mail > Preferences > Advanced, and saw that they were different.
    - the working account on my MacBook Air: port 995, Use SSL checked
    - the failed account on my iMac: port 110, Use SSL unchecked.
    I checked the Use SSL box, and the port instantly changed from 110 to 995, and the connection succeeded.
    Try this and see whether it helps - it may simply work with this particular ISP?

  • I am having problems with my email messages with Firefox

    My problem with Firefox ONLY seems to occur with messages in my email (hotmail-outlook). Quite often I open an email to see no message OR I click on a link to a video and no video appears. What does appear is a black screen with the sound of the video but no picture.
    Despite asking questions about this previously, there seems to be only two ways to solve this problem. The first is to clear the cache and then refresh the page and I am able to see the word text that wasn't there beforehand (I might add that this only occurs if it is a forwarded email with text; not if it is just a standard email text someone has sent to me.
    The second method that seems to work is to close off Firefox by clicking the close box (X) at the top right and then reload Firefox and my email account and then all seems to work.
    Is there a solution as to the cause of this problem and how I can fix it, please?

    I have multiple email accounts. Some are not real emails, but ways to share notes into specific accounts provided by services like Evernote, Springpad, Pocket or Readability.  So you if I'm doing a spreadsheet on Numbers and  want to save it in my Evernote account, for example, the only possible way is to send it as an email to my specific Evernote email address  and its done. Seconds later I can check and it will be there. Problem is since I upgraded my iPad to iOS 7, things are a bit strange. If I share an email to Evernote, it goes to my Gmail account, and the same happens to my other accounts. I send to Gmail, it goes to Readability, I send to Readability, I get it on Outlook.com. What is going on? How can I fix this? Am I the only one? I'd appreciate some help on the subject. Thanks in advance.

    I just noticed that one of the restore methods you posted was to put it into Disk Mode First rather than just use the resstore straight off, I Have tried that and seems to have solved the problem, If it has thank you. previously I have only tried just restoring it skipping this extra step. Hope my iPod stays healthy, if it doesnt its a warrenty job me thinks any way thanks again

    I had the same issue , as some one suggested please check in your contact under your name .
    If your name in contact list does not have email address it will come as 'Holidays in United states' (Which is so frustrating as I am working , LOL), you need to add your email address in your contact name and then it will go.
    I have done that and it worked for me , best of luck

    Q. I have an IPAD air having problems with my email deleting after a short while without command.

    I've had issues like this before.
    I ended up having to call my provide to reset the connection, which worked for a while, then quit. i then took it into my provider for a new sim card and had the connection re-established again. I haven't had issues since.
    hopefully for you resetting the connection with your provider will do the trick and a new SIM card wont be nessesary.

  • Having Problems with my mail Program

    I am having Problems with my email account. I am still on OS snow Leopard and just recently ordered the Newer Mac mini with Lion.
    I use to have the Mobile Me account, since I haven't switched over to iCloud yet, I still have the Mobile Me account set up in my email account and still have the Mobile Me idisk on my desktop.I also have my other local isp email account in my mail program. Just now I am getting a email problem from my other email account, I am getting my email but I get a pop up window that request my password from my other email account and at the top of the side bar where the mail icons are on the left side there is a "A" with a Circle around it next to my mail icon or sometimes a " ~ " (Tilda)  next to the mail icon. I tried to contact my ISP to ask them if they were having propblems at their end but they didn't get back to me, they usually do get back to me.
    Since I have the Mobile Me email account un active, am wondering if the mobile me account is effecting my other active email? am also wondering if the computer still thinks that the Mobile me email account is still active and is trying to get mail through my other active email account?
    Does someone have any soloutions for me? or can someone Please help me? cause this is very fustrating cause that Password wondow keeps popping up and I can not turn it off from popping up unless I completly quit the mail program but if I restart it or reopen it up, it starts all over again.
    Please someone Help me if you know what is going on here?

    you might try to look for the VACUUM command (do a google search on: mail.app vacuum).
    The ~/Library/Mail/Envelope Index file is a SQLite database. it does slow down as things are added and deleted. You can also find people who suggest deleting (or moving this file to the desktop or somewhere else) after quitting MAIL and then restarting MAIL... it will tell you it needs to import all your mail... it SHOULD find all the mail and rebuild the "Envelope Index" file. You can try it.

  • Problems with incoming emails

    After going through tons of support discussions and trying all that i could i would like to ask your help guys.
    As header suggests im having problems with incoming emails on mac mail (4.6)  (outgoing mails are working perfectly)
    Yesterday evening i noticed that i cant receive emails (wheel just kept spinning without downloading anything but webmail and my phone mail app show that there are tons of unread emails)
    Today around 10AM it worked for second (after messing around with settings (which i did not touched again) but when came back from lunch --- ***** not working again)
    I checked that i have correct incoming & outgoing server names, correct passwords and all other settings like SSL (port995) are ok.
    Confirmed from my Email Service Provider that their servers, my quota etc are working propperly
    Mac mail Connection doctor does not show any red lights so it is ok
    Someone said that "unable to load" can be caused by "corrupted" email and i should Rebuild my mailbox to see if if might show what message is f*** up. => did that and it just stays in "Fetching new email" and below reads "preparing to retrieve messages"   and again nothing.
    I tried to make new account in Mac mail client and it is not helping ... same thing  Nothing.
    I tried to install thunderbird and create new account in there, got it to work for first time i tried but result was the same ... it only downloaded some messages and stopped working.
    Previously when i used to launch mac mail app on my laptop it always asked "do you want to connect to this server bla bla bla" => click ok and it downloaded everything but now i dont even get that pop-up message. (i think it disappeared after making account in thunderbird client and clicking "always trust" which did not help as it is still not downloading) 
    I would really appreciate your help cos im going mad with this problem and i cant get any help from my ESP
    PS. im using POP settings.

    Just remembered that i took printscreen from thunderbirds error when first attempted to set up new account. And now when looking at this it is the same message that i got every time when launching mac mail client. But as said this error went away after clicking "allways trust" (it does show my ESP name and due date is sept.2013")
    And error message was
    "Mail cant varify the identity of "autodiscover."mydomain"......".
    The certificate for this server is invalid. You might be connecting to a server that is pretending to be "autodiscover....."

  • Problems with POP email accounts set up on iPad air why can't I send emails?

    I have an Ipad Air and am having problems with POP email account set up.
    I can receive emails however I cannot reply or create a new email and send it.
    Is there something I need to fix in Outgoing settings? these are the same as on my MacPro using same ISP provider Optus the only difference is that the Ipad has a prepaid sim card - however still with Optus.

    Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
    Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

    The passcode settings simply give you the option of having the passcode lock immediately you lock the screen, or after a delay period.  If you set a delay the passcode lock will not activate for the period of the delay.  I have mine set to one minute.  It is a "convenience" measure to save me having to re-enter the passcode if I lock the screen then immediately remember that there was something else I wanted to do.  Obviously this entails a small compromise on security and if you are at all concerned then you should set the passcode to "Immediately".  It really has nothing to do with the camera short-cut (though loads of users seem to have run away with this notion).  It would be the same if you just did "slide to unlock" during the delay period.
