Having trouble getting Time Capsule/Airport to connect to new Comcast Internet service
Ok let first start off by saying that as good as I am with computers, Networking ***** and I suck even more at it. With that being said, I'm having a lot
Of trouble with my Time Capsule. At least the airport part of it anyways. We just got Comcast Internet hooked up this morning and the guy that came over said I har Internet on my main computer, I just need to redo the setup on my airport and I'll be good to go. So I thought cool that's simple enough to change it back to default settings and just go through the process of setting it up again....WRONG! I go through the setup and first of all I have no idea what the difference between "Bridge Mode" and the other option but since I never use bridge mode, I just went with the other option. However, once I complete the setup, I have the flashing amber colored light and airport is saying I have two problems one is about "Internet Connection" and the other is for "No DNS Servers". At this point, my wireless devices can see the wireless network I've setup but there's not actual Internet to do anything. However, my main compute that's connected by Ethernet to the modem can connect just fine. So I decided to do a power cycle on everything. All the connections are correct and so I turn it all back on and I still have the same problem with the airport but now my main computer can't connect to the Internet anymore. Needless to say I got frustrated and had to leave for work. So my question is how do I resolve this and get my Internet connect and airport up and running properly? If someone. Luke just break it down to me step by step to the level of a 10 year old that would really help as I mentioned before I'm really terrible when it comes to networking. Any help is appreciated!

Power down the modem, the Time Capsule, and disconnect everything connected to them. Let them both rest for a moment or two.
Using an Ethernet patch cable, connect the Time Capsule's WAN port to the modem's Ethernet port. Connect both of them to power, modem first. Give them both a moment or two to wake up.
Open AirPort Utility 5.6 so that my screenshot below will resemble what you have.
Select your Time Capsule in AirPort Utility and select "Manual Setup".
Make yours look like the following screenshot:
The other options, such as TCP/IP, your wireless network name and password, ought to be self-explanatory but click through them and ask about anything that is not obvious to you. The important settings are in the above screenshot - that "Connect Using" is set to "Ethernet", and that "Connection Sharing" is set to "Share a public IP address".
Under the TCP/IP, Configure IPv4 should be set to "Using DHCP". Other settings should resemble the following but many parameters are up to you:
Click Update, resolve any errors that it may report, and let the Time Capsule reset.
Whatever you do don't disconnect the Time Capsule from the modem. Most modems will refuse to talk to anything other than the device it finds connected to its Ethernet port when it wakes up, so disconnecting it from the Time Capsule and connecting it to your computer for the purpose of replying here will confuse things.
That is pretty much it, but if you are still unsucessful, "hard reset" the Time Capsule - using a toothpick or functional equivalent, depress its tiny reset switch continuously, about a second or so, long enough for the LED to flash rapidly. That will reset the Time Capsule to its factory default condition. When you do this, the Time Capsule creates an open wireless network named "Apple Network xxxxxx" which exists for the sole purpose of configuring the Time Capsule. You must explicitly connect to this network to configure it. In AirPort utility, select the Time Capsule, and just answer the questions. When you are finished, the network "Apple Network xxxxxx" will cease to exist, so you must connect to the network you just created.
I make frequent use of toothpicks to reset AirPorts because I invariably mess up some setting, so if you find yourself doing this too then you're probably making normal progress.

Usually a simple reboot will work.. Reboot the TC..
If that is not enough.. Restart the whole network from off.
Mountain Lion and to a lesser extent Lion.. have network issues and lose track of the TC. -
Having Trouble getting airport to connect to new comcast cable modem
Help, I'm been at this for 2 days now. I don't know why I'm having so much trouble. I'm trying to transfer from DSL to comcast cable modem and running into lots of problems getting everything to work.
I can't get my airport extrreme to talk to my new comcast cable modem. I've tried everything, restart the modem, restart and reset the airport. chaning out cables, ensuring the green light is at the cable connection of the modem and the airport.
I can find two issues I can't resolve. one, the 10.0.0.1 webpage for the modem/router doesn't response, pings fail to 10.0.0.1. Yet, my computer is talking to the internet nicely using an ethernet cable to this cable modem. I've talked to comcast for hours, to many different people, over Many hours, and they either say the box is working or hang up on me or transfering me to nowhere land.
The airport never goes to a green front light, and airport utility and always dispay an empty IPv4 address. I've tried everything, and can't get the airport to renew it's DHCP license.
Where am I going wrong? I've search the web, and tried the solutions I found. Is my 3 year old airport too old? or is my comcast box bad? I checked the airport firmware and I'm on the latest version.
After getting this working, I still have an OOMA to transfer over to the comcast modem. Am I kidding my self? Help please.
selinaok, answering my own question, Turns out, there are three ways to do a hard reset on my airport extreme. Only the last method worked. The easy reset, from the Airport utility menu ( clicking the restore default setting) didn't make my airport talk to the new comcast cable modem. The second way, by pressing the reset button while power up didn't work. The harder third way, hold in the reset button and then plugging in the power cord did work. and the airport is now playing nicely with cable modem. I wasted how many hours before reading this method in the apple support pages ? and then remember doing this trick once many years ago.
I also wasted a few hours trying to get ooma to talk on the new cable modem, and the hard reset key for OOMA to play nicely with a new modem can be complicated. This method requires it to be connected and working ( plug ooma tele into the older DSL network), hook a phone to it, dial * # * # 0 9 9, (star, pound, star,pound then 099) and saying yes. That reset it to factory settings letting it reconfigure itself to a new modem gateway.
I still can't get into the gateway web page 10.0.0.1 to change the admin password, Don't advertise that. I get no reply to request or to pings. I think some comcast rep changed a port setting so I can't reach it. So I have an open wireless connection and unprotected.
I hate switching my network provider. Now I need to write it all down, for when I get fed up with comcast and decide to move to another provider. -
I am having trouble getting mail from the shaw server that my new iMac is connected to. I have to reboot the system to get Outlook for Mac to access the system and obtain new messages. Any ideas? Its at the point where I have started using the PC again as its less trouble.......

Having trouble getting Time Machine to back up my external hard drive. Any suggestions?
I'm running Mountain Lion on my iMac and I've been using Time Machine to back it up to my Time Capsule. Recently, the iMac's hard drive filled up, so I moved my iTunes library to a new Airport Time Capsule. But I can't seem to get Time Machine to include the new Airport Time Capsule in its back up.
The only suggestion I can find is to make sure it's not excluded in the Time Machine options, and I can see that nothing is excluded. However, when I go into Time Machine, the Airport Time Capsule is greyed out in the Finder window.
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance, I'm a little nervous about having my iTunes library hanging out there without a back up...Linc Davis wrote:

Time Capsule won't connect PC to the Internet
I'm sure there's something simple that I'm not doing but I can't get my PC to pick up the Internet from my Time Capsule. The TC is wirelessly connected to a BT HomeHub and is backing up my MacBook over Time Machine but why won't my PC, which is connected to the TC via an Ethernet cable, pick up the Internet?
Am I trying to get it to do something that just can't be done? Once TC is joined to another network, can it not then act as a bridge via an ethernet cable to provide internet access?!
I've wasted many an hour trying to get this to work, but to no avail.Did you happen to upgrade to 7.6.3 on the TC?
That would be pretty funny if the new firmware causes all non-apple wireless products to drop out.
I think we could get a very big fight going over such a thing.
Although I don't know the reason.. apart from that dreadful firmware.
Apple names are a problem.. why it should hit now after working fine I am not sure.
But you need to do a full factory reset to the TC.
Then give it all SMB compatible names.. (ie comply with windows networking).
That means short, no spaces, pure alphanumeric.
That will include TC network name, wireless names (different name for 5ghz) and hard disk share name.
You should use WPA2 Personal security. With a pure alphanumeric passkey of 10-20 characters.
Use fixed wireless (radio in Apple Speak) channels. For 2.4ghz there are only 3 non-overlapping. 11, 6, 1 and test them in that order. 5ghz doesn't usually matter so much but test down low.. say channel 40 and up high 157.. or ones near that in your country.
Tell me if you still have issues..
And go back to 7.6.1 firmware. Hold down the option key and select previous firmware if you are on 7.6.3 -
Time Capsule Airport Express Best Configuration for Backups & Internet
I have Time Capsule as a main router connected to a cable modem downstairs, plus Airport Express (new with firmware upgrade 7.3.2) in my office upstairs to extend the network. Two things keep happening:
1. Backups work sometimes and sometimes not although I am connected to my WPS secured network
2. Frequently lose internet connection, as in every hour or so; alternately nice and fast, then none at all. Most of the time I have a SNR of about 37.
Is there some optimal configuration settings for TC and Airport Express that could reduce these occurrences? Is there, for example, something I need to do with the Access settings on one or both?
Thanks for any help.Since it still looks like you will need to support 802.11g wireless clients (your iPhone), the best radio mode for the Time Capsule (TC) will be the default "802.11n (b/g compatible." Since this is running in the 2.4 GHz radio band, you can use iStumbler (or similar utility) to determine if there are other Wi-Fis in the area; find out what channels they are operating on; and try changing channels on your wireless network to see if this will help provide the best SNR.

If directly connected to the TC by Ethernet do you still lose the Internet connection periodically? If so, how about when connected directly to the cable modem? -
What about when using the "Time Capsule" HD as the external disk, especially when it is connected by ethernet cable? I'm having trouble getting it to work at all. Don't need it to work as anything else, other than a ethernet connected Time Machine backup. Already have a wireless network that works fine so no need to mess with it. We get the internet via cable company and their modem is upstairs and the Time Capsule is downstairs in the basement. The latest error message was about it could not backup as it was already in use (should have written it down before clicking OK and moving on.

Configuring the time capsule airport wlan function as "connect to wlan", the time capsule gets a correct IP adress from the other wlans IP range, but does not assign this to the ethernet ports. With Airport express it worked, the single Ethernet port got the IP Parameters passed through!
My setup is a Vodafon Esaybox connected to ISP. Time Capsule is not able to extend the wlan of the easybox, neither airport express can do.
Only the option "connect to wlan" is succesful.
With airport express I was able to connect my Sony Bravia TV to the lan via ethernet to stream pictures, the TV set got an IP adress from the easybox.
With the time capsule the easybox dosn't find devices connected to the ethernet ports to submit IP adresses. The TV set get another IP adress (169.xxx.x.x.) in subnet mask 255.255.0.0 and I don not now where from.
My notebook is a MacBook pro.
Any idea????

If the AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule are configured to "extend a wireless network" they will provide additional wireless coverage....and...the Ethernet ports are enabled in this type of setup.
The "catch" here is that you must have an Apple router providing the network to be extended. -
Trouble getting the HP C130 to connect to my time capsule (no ip address)

I'm facing the following problem:
I have a Time capsule that is connected to a airport extreme via a hard wire. The Time Capsule is set to Network Router OFF mode, the Airport extreme to DHCP.
All my stuff works just fine (IPad, IPhone, MacAir,...), but the HP Wireless printer (HP Photosmart Prem C310) refuses to colaborate.
Using the wireless setup wizard I can select my SSID and the network test report comes out ok expect the IP address is 0.0.0.0.
For some odd reason I'm unable to select a manual IP address: I can select the Manual IP Address in the menu, type in an IP Address, but when I press Done it shows "IP Address:No Link".
Anybody a clue on how to solve this?

Go to setup>network>Restore Network Defaults.
2. Next, Power off the printer and disconnect the power cord from the wall and the printer.
3. Disconnect the power from the router for 1 minute.
4. Reconnect the power to the router and wait for the lights to return to normal.
5. Reconnect the power to the wall and the printer.
6. Once the printer has loaded, run the wireless setup wizard again. -
I'm not sure how to post a message. I hope this might interest someone. The situation; 3 floors,I am having trouble with an an Airport Extreme, 802.11n on the top floor and a Mac Pro 3.1 on the bottom floor. Not always but often it has trouble seeing the Airport and making a connection. I have an older Airport Express, would it help to install it? would it work best if it was installed in the same room? should it be installed half way in between? Get another Extreme? The Mac Book Pro on the middle floor can see 11 networks in the neighbourhood if that might be causing a problem or would if I installed the Express. Thank for your consideration.

I appologize for the font and colour, I compossed the question in pages and failed to notice the font colour as grey ... there are a variety of computers of various ages so I think it is using a setting that allows both 5G and 2.4 ... the connection to the Airport is thru a cable modem and cable does run throuhout the house ... maybe those hard wires would be a place to look at ... do you think that putting the 'Express' on the second floor might help ... thanks again ...

Time Capsule & Airport Express Extended Network loses connection!
OK, so I am an Apple virgin of 2 months experience, after many many years with Windows based PCs, so please be patient and gentle with me. Sorry about the long explanation.....
My set-up comprises of a Time Capsule, which is connected to the Internet via a NetGear ASDL modem. Both pieces of equipment are situated in my wife's office on the first floor of our house. My office is on the ground floor, where I have a 27" iMac and an Airport Express which is connected to a printer via the USB port. The Airport Express is sited about 10 feet from the iMac.
All software and firmware are lastest versions - TC v7.5, AX v7.4.2 & Airport Utility v5.5.
For the past 2 months, I have only been using the AX to print wirelessly and the set-up has worked faultlessly.
Earlier this week, I decided change the configuration to extend the network to allow me to use my laptop & iPhone in areas of the ground floor where I had no signal. I followed the online instructions and first changed the TC to check the box to 'allow this network to be extended', after updating the configuration successfully I moved to the AX. Here I changed the wireless mode to 'Extend a wireless network', selected the network name and checked the 'Allow wireless clients' box. This also updated successfully.
Everything ran correctly and the range of the network was greatly increased.......great, job done...not!
After about 3 hours the iMac lost the connection and the TC disappeared from the Airport Utility pane and refused to reappear. I checked but also couldn't connect or see any network on the laptop or iPhone, so have dismissed a fault with the iMac. I finally got things back up after doing a power reset of the TC, but after a few hours same problem occurred, and occurred and occurred. By clicking the Airport Utility icon on the top right of the screen and following the prompts from 'no Internet connection', I can at least get things up and working without a power reset of the TC, but the connection still drops after 2-5 hours each time.
My first call to Apple Support led to a full reset and re-config of both the TC and AX, setting the extended network up as I had done originally. The only difference was an iMac reset (alt/cmd P&R on power up) and changing the 2.4Ghz channel from 1 to 11. This had no affect and the connection drop-out problem continued.
My second call to Apple Support led to me being passed to a Level 2 Techie, who first suggested that I tried disabling the Guest Network - tried it, and it made no difference. I was then told to try a WDS network, which whilst not losing connection, is slower and has less range than the original extended network and frankly sounds a cop-out.
Has anyone had a similar problem, anyone solved the problems, can anyone offer any help or advice please.. I'd appreciate any input....thanks.Similar problem here. Cable Modem (Moto SB6120)->AEBS (802.11n dual-band)>AX (802.11n) for wireless connection to MacBook Pro running Mac OS X 10.6.2. AEBS configured as dual-band: 801.11a/n at 5GHZ and 801.11b/g/n at 2.4 GHZ. AX configured to wirelessly extend the AEBS 5GHz 802.11a/n network. I am able to run on the extended 5GHz network (via AX) for varying lengths of time, until the internet connection dies. When this occurs, I am able to switch over to the 2.4GHz network to get back online. Solution up until now has been to unplug the AX, then plug it back in. After the AX restarts, I am able to hop back onto its 5GHz signal and get to the internet. However, the internet connection on this band will drop again after some time.
I was on the phone with Apple Support twice in the past week to get this resolved, but no joy. Senior Advisor seemed to think that my AX was working properly, and that that the problem could be with my AEBS -- perhaps the 5GHz antenna might be bad in my AEBS? Seems odd to me, since both my AEBS and AX are less than 2 months old...
I just read the post from LocoDoc and decided to see if I could replicate the problem. Sure enough, when I am connected to the internet via my AX extended 5GHz network signal and a Time Machine backup starts, the internet connection quits. Only recourse is to restart the AX. Note that I do not experience this problem with Time Machine while connected wirelessly straight to the AEBS 5GHz signal. Only when I am connected to the "extended" signal via the AX. -
My 1st Generation time capsule won't connect to the internet thru a new motorola sb6121 - get continuously flashing yellow light. Using a router in between the modem and capsule yields good but slower connection to internet. Any thoughts?

Let me give the history - I started with an Apple Express being fed thru a D-Link EBTR 2310 cable Router from an RCA DCM315 Modem (Pure). Comcast service all the way.
Got the 1st generation TC in 2008 and merely replaced the Airport Express with the TC. Worked ok
A year or two ago I did try removing the modem and feeding the TC directly from the modem. Resulted in the same condition I have now - Continuous flashing amber on the TC. So I put the router back in the chain.
Some time later, at the recommendation of a Comcast rep, I replaced the router with (a Belkin F5D 5231) to see if speed and dropout problems would be improved. I thought it helped some at the time but now I am not so sure.
Last week I decided to see if a new modem would help with download speeds. So I got another pure cable modem (Motorola SB 6121- high on the Comcast recommended list).
Got up and running easily with Comcast help and with the modem connected directly to a computer.
Next I put the TC in the link and again could not get past the TC continuing to flash amber. Although I did get connected to the internet with this configuration I lost connection two both of my printers - one connected by USB and the other wirelessly to the TC. Again everything works fine when I put the Belkin router back in the system.
However with the router in there, the modem shows the downstream connection to be 10/100 ethernet speed. (Modem light changes color for indicating speeds.}
I have gone thru all of the combinations of powering down/ up, but all stays the same.
I can live with what I have but something still doesn’t seem right.

I would be concerned too if the songs I purchased from iTunes were not downloading to my iPhone. You have taken some great troubleshooting steps already, and thank you for providing the details of the steps you too. I have a few additional suggestions to get it downloaded to your iPhone.
First, I recommend checking to see if the download was interrupted:
If your download was interrupted using your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
From the Home screen, tap the iTunes app.
For iPhone or iPod touch, tap More > Downloads. For iPad, tap Downloads.
Enter your account name and password if prompted.
Tap the blue download arrow to resume.

If the songs still do not download, next I recommend downloading the songs when connected to another network. For example, if you are using the cellular network, you could switch to Wi-Fi, or you could try an alternate Wi-Fi network.
