HD DVD successful replication

Hi there! I'm contemplating switching back to DVD SP (now being part of FC Studio) as it seems to offer a reasonable HD DVD handling. Do you know of any successful HD DVD replication cases of projects complied with the latest version of DVD SP? The Eclipse folks say they don't know of any. Is this true?

Toshiba - I cannot run Recovery DVDs successfully

I appreciate if somebody can help me to solve my problem as explained below.
My Toshiba laptop L650 developed some problems that is when I decided to resotore to its original form by running Recover DVDs which I created earlier using Toshiba Tempro. Unfortunately, recovery process did not complete and I got error message which says "Boot manager missing", screen became black and I could not start my laptop. Another bad news is that my HDD was formatted and I loose all my data in C&D drives.
Also I would like to know if recovery CD/DVDs do back up of C&D drives data.
How can I run recovery DVDs successfully?

I dont think that the hacker or the virus is responsible for non CD drive booting. I cant believe it. In my opinion if the drive cannot read the CD so possibly the CD is corrupt or the drive has a malfunction.
However, in my opinion you should be able to enter the BIOS. As mentioned above you can use the ESC and then F1 to enter the Toshiba BIOS. But if there is a Phoenix BIOS preinstalled so you have to use the F2 key. You have to press this buttons immediately after pressing the power button.
On my notebook I can also use the F12 key and the booting menu appears.
Then I can use the arrow buttons to select the booting device.
If you are not able to boot from the recovery CD so try to boot from the original Microsoft Windows CD.

Another update to my burning problem...in my movies folder there is an img file (states it is a classic disk image-2.82GB) after I have tried burning a DVD unsuccessfully and when I open the img file I see 1) AUDIO_TS AND 2) VIDEO_TS files. I 'control' clicked the file and tried burning this folder onto a disc. Result it seemed to burn both files onto DVD but still couldn't view video.

How do I get my slideshow from Lr5 to a DVD, successfully!?

'Successfully' being the key word here!
It will download, show the progress, complete, but then just be like a regular burn - no music and not in the right order. Can't figure out if it's me, the equipment or a step I'm leaving out.
Slideshow preview shows everything like I wanted; 440 pictures synced with 33 minutes of 1 track derived from Audacity.
My equipment is a Windows 7 Pro Spk1, with plenty of free space. All new, including the DVD drive using DVD-R. Works with '+' also. Windows Media Player properties says created 7/14/2009, modified 10/26/14. Not sure if this is talking about the player or a file that might be in it - never used it!!

Can't burn project to dvd successfully

I have PSE 12 both organizer and Premiere. I've completed a movie project after first working up a slide show in Organizer but when I tried to burn my dvd the program did not recognize my burner (which is LG's HL-DT-ST GH24NS50 SC SI) so I burned to a folder. Then tried to burn with both Windows DVD maker and Wondershare Video burner neither of which recognised the files containing the movie titles & scene intro-s. A 2nd problem has also developed during the process of completing the project. My PSE organiser now crashes as soon as it loads the media so I'm now virtually locked out of my photos. The only new files added to the organizer since I started this project are those coming from Premiere ie narrations etc.Can anyone suggest a way to fix these problems. Thanks

While launching Organizer, keep SHIFT key pressed.
This will open Catalog Mamager.
Now Click on NEW and create a new catalog.
If Organizer Launches, open preferences (Ctrl +K) > Go to Files Tab and Uncheck the following:
Automatically Search for and Reconnect Missing Files
Automatically Generate Thumbnails for Video files
On doing this, going to Media Analysis tab and un-check the Auto Analyzer options.
Please let me know if organizer still crashes.

I tried this solution and whilst the organiser would not launch from the start ICON, I managed to get it to start from the Premiere Editor. I carried out these instructions and then tried again to relaunch from the icon. This time successfully. So here's hoping that my luck holds. Thanks to you both for your help.

Anyone copy video cam data to DVD successfully?

I have about a million mini-DV tapes from my Sony Digital Handycam that I'm dying to backup on DVDs that can be viewed on our television. The tapes are 60 minutes long. Could anyone out there please give me step by step instructions on how I can get this done--someone that has actually done it successfully?

Seasons Greetings from the Yukon - If your tapes are under an hour in length and require no editing just hook your camera to your mac via firewire, open idvd, click on onestep dvd and follow instructions. Make sure you have lots of hard drive space available, probably double the amount you would need to save project, just to be on the safe side. Otherwise capture and edit them in imovie and send them to idvd for burning. It's actually pretty simple.

DVD for replication. DDP Image build not working

A first attempt to create a DDP Image for DVD replication.
The disk duplicates OK
When attempting to create a DDP Image the project check is fine, but the build tab does not come live. Any suggestions?

I am trying to create a file that will be copy protected to some degree at least. That only works with DDP Image files.

What is the best, and/or least expensive way of producing a DVD for commercial replication? I would appreciate the help.

Create a master DVD -R disc.
Test it extensively.
Then contact a replication house.
dub-it and discmakers are two companies I've used repeatedly.

Blu Ray encoding using Compressor - successful replication

Now that Compressor offers Blu ray encoding that apparently pass verification for Blu ray authoring has anybody actually used it and successfully sent a disc to be replicated??? What kind of results are you getting out of Compressor?
Here's my thinking - as Apple seem to be absolutely NOT going to be offering a Blu ray authoring solution then (like many others) I am looking at Netblender's solution which has a proven track record. Now I can buy their authoring solution and also they now offer an encoding solution. Sweet...
But what I was thinking was it is always useful to have a second encoder to hand - as Netblender can take encodes from Compressor. So just wondered what the results were like.

There's apparently some question as to whether Compressor 3.5 encodes Blu-ray as well as Compressor 3.05. Sorry ;-(
My contributors have reported that a Share... export from FCP7 provides far better encoding quality than the current version of Compressor 3.5
However, in general, Compressor streams (AVC and Dolby Digital) have been verified as "stream compliant" using the standard BD pre-replication verifiers. HOWEVER - PLEASE NOTE THAT USING AC3 IN ADOBE ENCORE WILL RESULT IN A NON-VERIFIABLE PROJECT. Encore CS4 throws non-compliant ghost PGCs, which contain AC3 content that will NOT pass replication verification.

Server 2012 R2 Domain Controllers stop accepting log in and replication failure.

We have recently completed a Domain upgrade to 2012 R2 AD DS from native 2003 AD. The issue we are experiencing is that for seemingly no reason the 2012 hosts will randomly stop accepting (RDP) logins and we see replication failures. We also cannot
otherwise remotely manage the host (remote service management etc...). The only way I've been able to recover from this condition is to restart the affected host, after which (RDP) logins are again accepted and successful replication starts again.
Logs aren't showing any issues prior to the issue happening and it is not specific to one host. I have been digging around to find a solution to this abnormal behavior but as yet haven't come across anything specific to what I am seeing.
Domain level is 2008 R2 and our few remaining 2008 R2 hosts never experience this. Only seems to be the 2012 hosts and randomly among all the DCs. Not one specific 2012 host is affected.
We have 20 DCs total.
Are there any known issues? Any advice on what I may be able to look at?
We are otherwise healthy aside from this intermittent replication/login issue.

This sounds more like a network type issue than AD type problem.
Are any firewalls in the way?
Do the servers respond to a ping when they are not responding to RDP.
What are you seeing in event logs prior to the change.
Are the servers physical or virtual? Are you able to get onto the console - either through your HyperVisor or through ILO type management?

DNS is waiting for AD to signal the initial replication has completed

First off, thank you for your help in advanced. Any help you can offer would be appreciated, and let me know if there's more information you need
me to provide, or utilities to run.
I have just joined a Server 2012 R2 DC to my Server 2008 R2 domain. Topology is it only had one DC previously, the 2008 R2, running AD/DNS/DHCP.
I ran the forest prep & domain prep on the 2008 R2 domain controller, then ran a dcpromo on the 2012 R2. From there, I migrated the FSMO roles over to the 2012 R2 server using ntdsutil.exe. The ultimate goal is to retire the 2008 R2 DC and
bring on line a 2nd 2012 R2 DC for this domain.
My Issues
Windows 7 client      PC's do not always resolve/pass traffic to the Server 2012 R2 server,      sometimes I need to ping
the server by IP before it will resolve, other      times if I just repeatedly double click on the shared folder mapped to the      Server 2012 R2 DC it will work eventually. This is      intermittent/random,
and not always repeatable with any specific      procedures. Sometimes the user will be working, then all of the sudden      they can't resolve DNS to the internet, nor internally.
I am getting the following errors in the event log on my 2012 R2 DC

DVD burn error - SOLVED!

I recently had errors when burning DVDs and noticed many people on this forum shared the exact same problem, but no solutions were posted. However, I've recently solved it, and decided to make a whole new thread so that it is easier for people to find.
First of all, the error is this: Since owning my laptop I've done 1 or 2 successful DVD burns, but then suddenly it wouldn't do it anymore. It would begin but then fail, somtimes at around 42%, other times before it got to 1%. and this happened no matter what software was used. I tried Finder and Toast 8. The error codes output from Toast are as follows:
The drive reported an error:
Sense Key = HARDWARE ERROR
Sense Code = 0x03, 0x01

Now, the information about my system and my drive are as follows:

Now, I know a lot of people here have said "Use highest quality DVDs, your cheap ones are bound to fail!" but in actual fact, it doesn't matter. People all across this forum have said that they've used the most expensive brand DVDs on the market, right down to the cheapest, and it's failed on all of them. Even the Apple brand ones. Here are a just a few that people have tried: TYG03 (Taiyo Yuden 1-12x DVD-R), TTH02 (TDK 1-16x DVD-R) and TDK003 (TDK 1-16x DVD+R). Taiyo Yuden are widely thought of as the highest quality on the market.
Also, I know people on this forum have said "Check the Mac is on a flat surface" and "Check the Mac is at a comfortable temperature". These may be factors, but it's very unlikely and are certainly not how I resolved the issue.
I took mine to my local Apple store and told them about the issue and they said they'd test it and if they found a fault, do whatever was needed. They tested and sure enough, it wouldn't burn so they decided to replace the DVD drive. I tried to tell them that loads of people on this forum said that doing that hadn't helped, but they weren't going to take our word for it, and so they replaced the drive. 2 days later I got a call to say they'd done it but it hadn't resolved the issue (fortunately they'd re-tested it and not just told me to come and collect it!) and so they decided to replace the motherboard. 2 days later they called to say the work was done and it was burning fine, and I can confirm that it now burns full DVDs successfully.
So there it is, a motherboard fault. I dont know why, perhaps a manufacturing error. Anyways, so if you're having this problem, go tell Apple to replace your motherboard (I believe you can send your laptop to them if there isn't a store near you).
Oh, and if you do this and it works (or if it doesn't) please post it here, as it will help keep this solution on the front page of the forum.

I'm quite pleased to read your post, I'll even forgive the linking to my error messages because the news is that good.
Any information whatsoever as to the actual repairs undertaken would be very much appreciated, as I am interested in twisting Apple Australia's arm over this issue - my DVD drive may as well not be there. Any information from the service receipt, or if your could contact the service staff for a specific description of the error and service method, I'd very much appreciate it.
Congrats on the repair, and now I've got five months to fight the machine that is Apple to see that my drive actually works.

FSMO Replication Error

I have been getting a pattern of errors on my DC. I have two pair of eyes on these errors, but everything seems to running ok. The only issue we've had is our workstations were putting out the "Trust domain relationship failed..." error. We were
able fix this issue by removing those machines from the domain, changing the names, and then adding them back. My only concern is that the errors below were the cause of that, and that the issue may return unless this is resolved. I've checked all of my services
and DNS's settings. IPv6 is on. There haven't been any changes to the server in sometime. Which is the baffling part. Any insight on this would be very helpful. I apologize in advance for not being well versed in this area... AD Replication is not my strongest
point.

Schema: You will no longer be able to modify the schema for this forest.
Domain Naming: You will no longer be able to add or remove domains from this forest.

Okay, so our racing season is about to begin, so Im ready to start making videos again. However, my computer is not cooperating.
I don't actually think this is an Encore problem I think its a hardware problem, but I didn't know where else to ask so here is the scenario...
Hardware being used:
     Verbatim DVD-R printable (I have been using these same ones for 2 years)
      Fujifilm DVD-RW (I usually use on of these for my first dvd so I can test it and make sure I have it working properly, so I don't waste regular DVDs)
     Sony DVD multi recorder drive (I have 2 of them in my computer)
So I tried to do a direct burn from Encore without menus using a Verbatim DVD---failed source code 37303
decided to make an image file.
Tried to burn the image file to Verbatim DVD----failed no explaination
Treid to burn the image file to Fujifilm RW DVD----success
Verbatim----failed
another Fujifilm----success
Switched Drives:
Verbatim---- Success
Verbatim----- Success
In other words the 1st drive would burn to the Fujifilm, but not Verbatim
2nd drive burned to verbatim no problems.
I have been using the 1st drive for about 2 years now and have had many coasters and when I start having problems with it I go to the 2nd drive and it seems to work good.
Today was the first day that I was actually able to be pretty confident in the conclusion that the 1st drive is bad or going bad. Would that be your conclusion? or is it possible there is something else going on here. Is it possible that for whatever reason the 1st drive just doesn't work with the Verbatim dvds well? and if Im in the market for a new drive what is recommended?

Is the firmware identical in both burners? Is it the latest?
ImgBurn, besides being a great free burning utility, will do several other things for you. It'll survey your burners at the hardware level, and will tell you the firmware in each. It will also give you info on your blank media. Check out both.
The Sony site should show you the latest firmware available for your burners. I would update/flash, if there are newer offerings. Check the instructions, as the exact procedure can differ. For my LG, it's just run an executable, while for my Plextor, it's a bit more involved, yet still simple. I also recommend that one mix brands of burners on a system. Some burners just like certain discs better than others. The LG handles about 95% of all DVD discs, but when it does not like one, the Plextor usually does.
I do not think that it gets better than Verbatim for blank media. I use it and Taiyo Yuden exclusively. Still, ImgBurn will check the mfgr. of your blank disc. I only hope that Verbatim has not followed Memorex's business model of buying the cheapest media possible and rebranding it. TDK, once a respected brand seems to have done just that.

PS - not being able to Burn to Folder, or Burn to Image, might well be a sign that there are other problems, like with the Project, or the computer.

Wierd HDV to SD DVD anamorphic problem

I've read many articles on this workflow, but I haven't seen anyone with my particular problem yet.
I have an HDV 108060i FCP project. Footage captured from a Canon HV30 and some graphics done in Motion. The editing process went great. I output my final HD project back to my camera. Looks fantastic.
Now I want to make a SD DVD.
I export a non self contained ref movie from the FCP timeline. When I look at this movie, it's 1920x1080. Not anamorphic... not 1440x1080. When I view this movie, a circle is a circle. When I get movie info, it says it's a 1440x1080, but in movie properties, the size says 1920x1080.
But I continue. I drop this file into Compressor, and use the default DVD MPEG best quality settings. Compressor makes a 16x9 file thats 720x404. What I believe I want and need is a 720x480 movie that's squeezed. Otherwise I'm losing resolution.
Funny thing is, when I export a still frame TGA from the same timeline, it's squeezed! 1440 x 1080.
Then I go back to an older SD project, where I've produced DVDs successfully in the past. When I export from a DV anamorphic project, all is right. The exported movie is squeezed, the MPEG 2 from Compressor is squeezed and it plays great on both widescreen and 4:3 TVs after authoring in DVDSP.
Can anyone help? Gotta make a SD DVD by day's end tomorrow!

If you're opening an anamorphic NTSC-sized .m2v file in QuickTime Player, it will be displayed as 720x404 because the QT MPEG-2 Playback Component uses square pixels for display. When imported into DVDSP, the file should be read as 720x480.
As for exported stills being 1440x1080, that is also normal behavior. FCP uses the frame size, in your case 1440x1080, and not the display size (1920x1080).
But you mention that some of this behavior is different than what you've seen with past DV Anamorphic material. How so? What did those .m2v files get displayed as in QT Player?
