HDD Formats - Other than 2GB limit, should FAT32 work OK with FCE4?

I know about the 2GB filesize limit, but are there any other limitations when using FAT32 format for my external drive with FCE4?
Have been using this setup for more than six months, but I've got a really weird problem going on with some AVCHD clips I have ingested where the filenames keep changing. Spontaneously. While browsing the directory in Finder!
In FCE, it's resulting in media disconnection issues when I re-open sequences. Completely messes up QT reference files too.
I've seen various references to 'should use HFS+' when using external drives with FCE - but nothing definitive? Could someone set me straight? Have I been misguided in thinking that FAT32 would be okay?
I use the same HDD from time to time with a WinXP computer -- so keeping it as FAT32 is my preferred option. The HDD in question is a LaCie Porsche 160GB on firewire 400.
Thanks in advance
Shane

FCE does not officially support working with FAT32 drives. The drive should be formatted as Mac OS Extended if you are using it with FCE.
The fact that you are getting weird behavior such as spontaneous file name changes indicates that something is amiss. Are you sure you haven't used any non-printing ASCII characters, or ? / \ " | > * in the filenames - that would definitely cause problems.
While I understand your desire to use the drive with both your Mac and your PC, for use with FCE you really should reformat to Mac OS Extended. There is an app called MacDrive that you can put on your PC to read Mac formatted drives.

kind of. It does spawn a new window, which is great (thanks!). But it seems to be at a lower resolution - does iTunes compress further or display at lower res? What is the function that people are supposed to be able to use to use iTunes as a media center to watch movies?

  • Problems emailing any other file format other than a .jpg

I am having problems emailing any other file format other than a .jpg in mac Mail in Leopard. Is anyone else having this problem?
I have tried PDF, .tif and .doc documents, and they are small files, less than 150 kb. I have checked to ownership on the images and it says that I can read and write to them. I have also checked with my ISP and my mailbox capacity is 10 MB and was recently emptied. I am able to log into my ISP's webmail portal and send these types of attachments through there successfully, which has made me convinced that it has to do with Leopard or Mac Mail because I did not have these problems in Tiger.
When I send a message like this, Mail says, "Sending" for a while, and then says "Cannot send message using server:(Name of my server) Sending the message content to the server failed. Select a different outgoing mail server."

I've been sending .doc files with/without also .jpg as attachments without problems so it is possibly not a Leopard problem. I know this doesn't solve your problem though. Someone else may be able to solve the problem.

Thanks.  The reason this has become an issue is that I recently bought a new Macbook Air that the iPad is not synced to.  The one is was synced to was stolen.  If I want to sync this iPad to the new Air, won't it be wiped before I'm able to copy these films or am I wrong about that?

One more clarification if i am going for 'create lang-template per lang' then do i need to have MLS configured in my EBS.
    >
    not sure about your point
what do you mean "configured" ?
mls is the ability to run you application on different language like italian, russian ....
so if you want check how many lang do you have then
select nls_language from fnd_languages where installed_flag in ('B','I');for my test instance i have only "AMERICAN"
but i can run my report with 'lang-template per lang' in different lang
so when you run your concurrent then click "options" and indicate "template language"
    if you have
    template name: XXTMP_ru.rtf lang: Russian
    template name: XXTMP_en.rtf lang: English
then you can choose for "template language" - Russian and English

  • Other than voicemail what should i expect tp lose when converting from a blackberry phone to iPhone 4s

What sould i expect to lose other than voicemails when i convert to iPhone 4s from a blackberry

    Hello chopper59,
If you've already purchased and received your iPhone 4S, congratulations!  You've made a great choice.
I'd also like to thank the other Community members for the feedback & suggestions.
Just as mentioned earlier, you would lose your voicemail messages, so it is suggested to save the messages you're wanting to keep to another storage device.  There are multiple ways to transfer contacts, depending on how your contacts are currently backed up with your current Blackberry.  For example, if you're using the Backup Assistant application, there is an application on the iPhone called "VZ Contact Transfer" that allows you to move your contacts from Backup Assistant to your iPhone.
I'm including a link with more information about activating and transferring information to an iPhone 4S here:

  • I need to select an HD format other than AVCHD

I had a custom built machine to run all CS4 programs including Premiere Pro CS4 and Adobe Media encoder CS4. The only catch is that I built it to run mainly SD video. In June, I made a plunge purchasing a used HF10 which records excellent video. However, only in the AVCHD format. At first, I just typed in AVCHD in Premiere Pro CS4 and was relieved to find out it was supported. When I shot a small short, the problems started. I did the correctly formatted preset and even set my video card (NVIDIA GEFORCE 9500) to performance over quality. I set the preview to draft in Premiere Pro and started editing. It took me 3x longer than I usually spend editing. Most of it was spent waiting for the files to be loaded and trying to get the perfect cut but the clips were choppy. I searched and tried to find the solution. The best I could find was to upgrade my RAM (2 gb) or video card (see above) or processor (Pentium(R) Dual-Core).Just before I started to pack my computer for the repair shop, I remembered about a movie trailer my friend made and sent it to me in Mpeg 2 format but was HD (1080p). I quickly started my computer and opened a premiere pro sequence and it ran as smooth as butter. I then thought, if I can't work in AVCHD, I can definitely convert these file to the Mpeg 2 format which should run as smooth as butter. I tried recreating the settings such as audio frequency, and square pixels using adobe media encoder. It still ran choppy. I admit it was slightly easier to work with but did not impress me. So, I tried many other formats tweaking just one variable at a time, and still nothing. Do any of you have a video format that you recommend that I can render my AVCHD in to and use the new format for editing HD with? I use Adobe Media Encoder (please be as detailed as you can with the preset) to render my files and also a canon HF10. The video is interlaced so it would be a plus if the Media encoder can de-interlace it. Thank you very much for helping me. Have a wonderful day.

  • Encoding h.264 with an audio format other than AAC?

AME CC only lets me encode an h.264 with AAC audio, and that's the one format I *can't* use for this project! Without descending deep into the crazy world of ffmpeg command lines, is there any way to encode with AC3, WAV, MPEG-2, Vorbis, or FLAC? I hear the occasional murmur of plugins but have never seen a link to such a thing.

    Why can't you use AAC?
MPEG-4 Part 3 describes support for quite a few audio codecs, AAC and MP3 being the only two most people have heard of.
I imageine many decoders won't be able to read some codecs on the list. Likewise, other decoders may be able to read codecs not listed, like Vorbis and FLAC.
I can sympathize with Adobe only wanting to let users make the configuration most likely to be supported. If you want to get fancy, I guess you'll need FFmpeg.

  • Is it possible to export a video in a format other than m4v?

I've just recorded a video in iMovie using the built in camera capture, exported the movie.. tried uploading it to YouTube twice, and both times, it failed. It's saying .m4v isn't a compatible format - but I've uploaded other built in webcam captured movies to YouTube before, and they were in m4v, never had any problems.
So is there any way to choose which format you export the movie in? Need a .mov or .mpg or something.

    Hi
Export as QuickTime and choose what You find suites You. There are many things to choose in QT Expert mode. In fact so many that I use to mess things up here - and are looking for help to save out as HD in highest possibly quality to an USB-memory stick to be played-back on a PlayStation 3.
A very skill needing task - which I have a long way to go to get.
Still - QuickTime is a great tool.

  • Exporting in a different format other than HTML?

Hello.  I made an animation in Adobe Edge Animate CC Pro and I can play it on my computer just fine with the .HTML document.  Just when I tried to post it to Facebook to show everyone it wasn't one of the supported file types. Ok np it's just facebook.  I recently started up my Creative Cloud online storage and when I tried uploading just the .HTML file it wouldn't play, yet images show up just fine on my CC file storage.  You would think this .HTML would be easy to open in any browser, is there anyway to export these animations I make as GIF's? Why would the HTML file not play on the Cloud server? Do I need to have the whole project saved to the drive anywhere I go for it to play in its .HTML format?
    Please Help.

If you really want others to check out your animation without having a true web-hosting facility (so not really published, but as a test or sneak-peak), try using this method:
set the Publishing settings to generate a Web instance, and let it publish the lot. Find the folder, rename the html file to something like "check_this_out.html" (so recipients know which file to open), and zip it. Send this zip file by email, or put this one any cloud to be downloaded. Hopefully the interested users know how to open a zip file...
Note: check the Publishing setting "Host runtime files on Adobe CDN" - it must be OFF to let users view your animation also off-line, otherwise the animation will start looking for some essential auxiliary files online.
Most cloud servers are not really "web" servers, so they don't store files in a way that physically reflects the proper hierarchy of files and folders as you upload them. The comprehension between i.e. the html files and images can't be retrieved and put to work on such servers. Just like Facebook, they store everything in huge databases, as a matter of fact.

  • Premiere CS2 won't accept any format other than MPEG-1

    Hi there.
The fact that i'm using an old version of Premiere isn't relevent, please do not ask me to upgrade.
I've had the same problem with the same version on my old cumputer by the end, but it works perfectly for the first couple of months. However, Pro 2 always reachs a point in his life where, like now, he becomes as stuborn as an old man, and suddenly stars to refuse any -I really mean ANY- format, with the unfortunate exception of MPEG1. Divx, MPEG2, Uncompressed AVI, DV, HDV, nothing works except this crappy MPEG1.
When I try to import DivX, it crashes. With HDV or any MPEG2, it keeps "Indexing" the file, over and over and over again. Since I work with HD Video, and have an HDV cam, you can see it's really a problem...
I tried to uninstall/re-install, repair, nothing worked.
Every other function works, including the Export, in any usual format (Avi, Adobe HD, MPEG2.....)....
I didn't find any other topic relating to my problem. I remember seeing one where the guy thought it was because the Folder was set on "Read only", but it's been the case since the very begining (the joys of Vista), and has nothing to do with the problem.
    Thanks for your help !

I really rarely use DivX, I only use MPEG2, or MOV files. I used DivX only for some special effect some time ago. and did a project after that that went really well (with HDV).
This is interesting, as PrPro has never handled DivX (or Xvid) well, if at all. At best, one usually got either the Video, or the Audio (the former was usually the case).
I wonder - have you installed any CODEC packs? Have you installed FFDShow? These often break PrPro's ability to handle formats/CODEC, that once worked. I strongly recommend on their complete removal.
Now, back to DivX/Xvid: I have both on my machines, and neither has ever given me a problem. I do not try to edit those CODEC's, as they are highly-compressed and are designed for delivery-only.
I'd look at things like the CODEC packs, mentioned above. Your issue is likely there, or very similar.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Can't export .mov file to FB/You Tube in any format other than Mobile.

I'm exhausted. I feel like I'm either not wired for a Mac or Mac intentionally makes interacting wtih non-Mac applications next to impossible.
I have a 720X1080 .mov file I imported to iMovie and on which I did a bit of cropping/editing work on.  When I attempt to export it in mp4 or any other format, the quality is shot.  When I attempt to upload it directly onto FB, the only option iMovie gives me is "Mobile" sized, or 480X260.
I just want to get this video out of iMovie and either into a format that is more universal or uploaded in a size that can be viewed without giving people a squint headache.
This shouldn't be that hard. But it is. Please help.  :-(

Thanks - Walking away for a bit and a new day helped tackle the problem with a renewed energy.  :-)
That actually exactly what I'm doing... but when I hit "Export" or "Share" (or anything, for that matter) all options *except* mobile are greyed out/disabled.  When I check the specs on the origina video, it's a 720X1080 (taken on an iPhone4), and yet by the time I get the video into iMovie and edited, somehow I'm only left with the 480X260 option.  All other options I can see, but aren't available for my video clip.
Thanks so much for helping me try and get this figured out.

  • Can I batch-archive emails and attachments to my hard drive? ...in a format other than .eml...which is stupid...

My current email system no longer allows me to click on a bunch of emails - and their attachments, then 'print' them to pdf on my hard drive.
My business must save emails for at least 10 years.
Someone suggested Mozilla's email, Thunderbird, but I'm not gonna switch until I know that I can batch-archive.
    Thoughts?

    Hi!
Thunderbird is capable of batch-archiving; you can select all the emails/folders/mailboxes that you wish to archive and then click "Archive". They will all be archived in their appropriate folders to your computer. There are Thunderbird add-ons available that will give you even better control over your archiving options.
If you'd rather print them all to PDFs, you would need to have a PDF creator installed on your computer first. You would then select all the emails you wanted to print and then select your PDF creator as the printer at print time.
If you are looking for a new e-mail client, Thunderbird is an excellent option. :) You can download it [http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird here].
    <hr>
I hope that answered your question!
<i>If it did, would you please choose this answer as your solution? It would help other Mozilla product users to find help on the forums faster and more efficiently. Thanks!</i>
And of course, feel free to post back if you need more help!
If you need more specific assistance with Thunderbird, it'd be ideal to post further questions to [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/thunderbird Mozilla's Thunderbird Support Forums] , instead of the Firefox forum. :)
    Happy browsing!
