HDV or SD? including delivery

Hi. I have a big debate whether or not go with an HDV camera or an SD camera?
This are my concerns. HDV is not a format that you can deliver today without downgrading it to SD...so the final product as of today would not be HD without a blue-ray/hd-dvd burner. right?
While SD is that format that may (or may not) dissapear from broadcast and film any time soon.
I just have budget for one camera and can be an HDV or an SD camera, and I'm trying to make the smartest decision.
Any suggestions? (the cameras would be the canon XL2 or the canon XH A1)
Thank you!

First of all, I agree with the V1U suggestion. I'm an engineer and have spent the last 2 weeks reading the spec's of every camcorder out there within my price range (which is the $3000 ~ $4000 range). There is no other choice buy the V1U, in my educated opinion. That said, the Canon camera's are really good one's, too. Just not as good as that Sony. I just ordered one this afternoon.
Ok, now about the question:
SD will soon be as antiquated as 8 track tapes. Take a look at what is being promoted. It's all about HD. If you shoot a commercial in SD and HD is wanted it isn't going to look as good as HD if you manage to sell it to an HD market. It doesn't matter that SD might look great. 530 lines are not ever going to look like 1080.
Next consider the end user - the person watching whatever it is that you shoot. They don't usually know much more than trivia about the technology. More is better and that's about it until they actually SEE the picture. rememebr, they have beeen watching SD most of their lives. The closest they have ever been to real HD is at the movies! Now, here's something that looks as good (maybe better, because it's TV)!!!
Here's a scenario:
Joe: "I want to watch my program."
Sales Person: "Do you want to see this program in SD or HD?"
Joe: "Which is better?"
Sales Person: "HD of course! It has a better picture and TWICE the detail."
Joe thinks to himself: "Hmmm, I work hard and enjoy watching movies. If there's TWICE the resolution... Hey, I deserve the best and can (will) afford it!"
Joe: "I want the HD TV. Why would I want something less than THAT!"
Sales Person: "Good choice. Nothing beats HD TV, Joe!"
So, if you're thinking to do something and make a buck at it I suggest you think the way the end user is going to think. Does it cost more? Of course it does! Better things ALWAYS cost you more... but the end user believes they're worth it!
Of course this is just my opinion... However, I just bought a Sony V1U as a result.
I hope this helps

  • Lowest value determination including delivery costs

    Hi friends,
is it possible to include delivery costs (as freight costs FRA1 and FRB1) in the lowest value determination MRN0 when comparing order prices as market prices?
    Best regards,
    Carsten

    HI,
I have done this configuration to go to different GL Account
    Example --for Freight(Seperate GL Account)
    My requirement is
    In PO
    Material X       100/-    Cost centre-1024
    Material Y       200/-    Cost Centre-1025
    Invoice is
    Material X       100/-
    Material Y       200/-
    Unplanned Delivery costs 30/-
After Posting MIRO it should come this way...
    Material X       100/-   CC-1024
    Material Y       200/-   CC-1025
    Freight -charges- 10/- CC 1024
    Freight -charges-20/-  CC-1025
(Freight charges should go to different GL Account and also splitting the costs based on the PO item value)
could you please help me how this can be done.

  • How to set delivery plan per day in components requirements

    hi
As we know, the production order of finish goods includes started date and finished data such as Sep 1, and Sep 10. So, MRP calculate component requirement which includes delivery date such as Aug 28 (because of lead time).
however, purchase people hope to deliver these components day by day. fox example, total delivery Qty maybe is 1000ea. this production order needs to be produced in 10 days. so, the components should also be delivered 100ea per one day.
however, purchase order just include a delivery date. which have no detailed schedule.
anybody can tell me how to meet this problem?

    Hi,
The order split is not allowed with the following status:
Created, delivered, finally confirmed, locked, technically complete, closed, deletion indicator set.
An order split is allowed with the following system status:
    Partially released, released, partially confirmed.
    Please check and come back.

  • How to include Freight charges and unloading charges in Material price.

    Hi All,
Can you pls. advice how we can include freight charges & unloading charges in Material price (MAP) when receive in system.
    Current Situation :
We buy Switchgears from vendor, which transported with special vehicle arrangement from different service provider and gets unloaded at warehouse by another service provider. Currently business create seperate PO for Material vendor, Freight Vendor and for unloading service provider. But MAP is only updated with Material cost only. How can I include delivery cost and unloading cost in MAP thro standard SAP process.
Your solution will help business heaps.
    Regards,

    Hi,
Create three condition types namely basic material price, freight charges & unloading charges.
For  basic material price , you can copy PB00 and rename your basic material price condition type. Now freight charges & unloading charges condition type in M/06 , do not maintain condition category ( keep it blank ), so that it will added to inventory cost .For freight charges & unloading charges do not maintain account key & accrual key in Pricing procedure.
Cretae PO , now you will see all cost added to NET price in PO and you can for doing GR where all cost are inventoried as materisl cost.

  • Delivery qty as 0 and not pickable

    Hi Experts
I create STO ,when I create the delivery, It doesn't include delivery qty into delivery, and the material item is not pickable.
So if I tried to input the qty manually, it will display only 0 EA of material xxx available. I checked the stock, it has qty onhand.
So what's the problem ? where I could check if this part need be pickable?
    Thanks
    Alice

    Hi,
It's very probably availability check is switched on and system cannot find available quantity when you are trying to create the delivery. In the log of delivery creation maybe you can find this information..
It may happen that you have stock but it is assigned to differnet deliveries.
Please run report CO09 (with proper checking rule - maybe "B" in your case, youn know in which environment you work.) I guess you have other deliveries to which the stock is already assigned.
SPRO > Sales and Distribution > Basic Functions > Availability Check and Transfer of Requirements > Availability Check - here you can check your customizing.
E.g. Availability Check with ATP Logic or Against Planning >Carry Out Control For Availability Check ("include delivery notes" checkbox is very likely to be checked; V_441V-VBBLP)
(MARC-MTVFP controls the availability check at material level)

    Additionally:
Field V_TVLP-MNG0P controls how system should react when delivery quantity is zero.

  • ATP check on Sales order items not due for delivery?

    All,
In our Sales order, we have a number of dummy material lines. Now, when I use the normal sales order ATP check button, SAP does nothing. However, we have a custom program that does an ATP check, and it returns a zero qty.
My question is, how do we know if a material is due for delivery, before an ATP check is done? The only suggestion I have is to look at the schedule line, and see if there is a material movement behind it.
    Any other ideas?

    Mark
This is a classic SD Professional's dilemma, though it manifests differently at different clients. Mostly customers crib about future requirements stopping current sales orders from being delivered or Scheduling agreements with future delivery dates 'stealing' stock from Sales orders.  Another manifestation is production orders usurping components from sales orders for spares and so on. ATP functionality in SAP is pulled in various directions by conflicting demands and it is difficult to satisfy everyone. Companies with chronic probelms often end up with negative ATP which is perhaps the most serious stage of the prognosis.
    Your solution lies in:
    1) Availability check control settings : Sales documents vs. deliveries  : For the delivery, don't include 'Sales Requirements'  and for the sales orders, do include 'Delivery Requirements and so on.
    2) Performing nightly rescheduling (V_V2) with Delivery priority and delivery date as key sort criteria. If the volumes are not high, you can try using manual confirmation via CO06.
Take a look at this OSS note and the ones mentioned within:

  • RETURN DELIVERY AND MD04

    Dears
I created a return delivery from quality notification and material was taken from block stock(stock type is S)
    and delivery created
but in MD04 it consume from stock
    for example
i have a qty 100 pcs in unrestricted
and i created a return delivery for 10 pcs
Available qty in MD04 is showing as 90
we are taken this material from block stock so as per logic it should not effect in available qty in MD04
pls tell me why system respond on this way...
May i missed any setting any were
    Faisal

    Hi Faisal,
One of the probable reasons that I think is, you might have included delivery quantity for availability check. You are might be including blocked stock also there.
Can you please verify this in transaction code OVZ9? Select appropriate availability check and checking rule and click on detail view.  Include deliveries options must have been ticked there.
As a result of this, if your unrestricted stock is 80 and block stock is 20, system displays 100 as available quantity in MD04. After creation of return delivery or consumption of 20 quantity from block stock system will display 80 in MD04.
So according to me MD04 quantity is sum of unrestricted and block stock. However you can modify this equation by carrying out appropriate changes in OVZ9.

  • The delivery date is no use for the scheduling lines

We are using scheduling agreement and automatic scheduling lines.
but the delivery date is no use in MRP running.
In scheduling agreement,I already maintain delivery time=2days and GR days=3 days.
But after MRP running, I found the delivery line only consider GR days but not included delivery days.
For example. (delivery time=2days and GR day=3 days)

MRP results :scheduling line date=2009.04.13.(!only GR days=3 days in use )
Why? I am using standard lot size TB( daily lot size, Scheduling: Requirements date := delivery date)

  • One Billing Document with Delivery- and Order-Related billing items

We wish to include both delivery-related and order-related billing items in a single billing document. Is that possible using configuraiton? We have seen some forums indicate it is not possible without ABAP.
    Thanks SAP gurus!

    Bradley,
I still think this is possible.
Delivery related billing or order related billing is decided by the configuration of billing relevance in the Item category. So if those things are properly configured, it should be possible to include delivery related items and order related items together in one invoice document.
When you do that, you have to ensure that the item categories are relevant for either delivery related billing or order related billing.
Then in copy control, only order related I.Cs shoudl be configured in VTFA and only delivery related I.Cs should be configured in VTFL. There should not be any mix up in this configuration. If there is any mix up, then it may cause problems.
If these two configurations are done, it is possible. You may also note that in VF01, it asks only for documents, not specifically deliveries or orders. So it is possible in standard SAP itself. Please configure it and try it.

  • Delivery Purgatory

I purchased a dishwasher on Friday, 12/12/14 from the Destin FL store, to be delivered locally on the following Monday.   The purchase was to include delivery, installation and haul away of the old unit. The salesperson told me that delivery would be between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., but that I would receive a call on Sunday to establish a more specific time.  When I had not received a call by 5 p.m. on Sunday, I began to attempt to contact the store, using the number given.  After long waits and being disconnected a number of times, I finally reached a person who said I would receive a call after 7 p.m. that evening to establish delivery.  I never received a call.  On Monday morning, my attempts to contact the Destin store were never answered. Because the only additional contact information on the website was the e-mail of the store manager and the assistant store manager, I began attempting to contact them by e-mail. I received a return e-mail from the manager that I would receive a call from the store.  The call never came.  Finally, at about 3 p.m., after missing a day of work and other productive activities, the delivery team showed up at the house and left the dishwasher in the garage. When asked about installation, the delivery person stated that a third party would have to install the unit but had no idea on how to contact the 3rd party or when I could expect the installation.  I again began to try contacting the store, by phone, but was unable to reach a party who could give me any more information regarding the installation.  I again e-mailed the manager, who responded to my e-mail that someone would contact me regarding the installation issue.  He indicated in the e-mail that I had not purchased installation services.  I responded to him that I had requested installation and would be happy to pay for it if it had not been properly scheduled at the time of purchase.  I am sure that I had requested the installation because the sales person had informed me that the old unit would have to be emptied prior to the time of delivery, in ordered to be “hauled away.”  Despite the manager's assurances that someone would call, I never received a call back.  By Thursday, 12/18/14, when I had still not received a call about installation, I had it installed by another party.  On Friday, 12/19/14, without any prior notice, the Best Buy installer knocked at the front door, with the intention of installing the dishwasher.  The installer was informed that the unit had already been installed. It seems to me that over a period of 5 days (Monday – Friday) we could have at least received at least one call or email regarding the installation. I can forgive the poor communication between a Friday purchase and a Monday delivery during a busy holiday period. However, the lack of communication regarding the installation after being assured on Monday by the manager it would be taken care of is totally unacceptable.
I have purchased several appliances from other Best Buy locations in the past and never experienced any problems with scheduling of delivery or installation/haul away.
However, this was my first purchase from the Destin store. I found that communication and execution of the delivery to be essentially non-existent at all levels of staff; from the store manager to the salesperson to the delivery team.

    Greetings Tired-in-Destin,
Being without a dishwasher can certainly cause quite the hassle. I'm glad to hear that you chose to shop with us for your appliance, and that this is not your first appliance purchase with us. Typically phone calls are provided the evening before to give you a delivery window.
I apologize if you did not receive this phone call, and if you no one from the store was able to provide it to you during your calls and emails throughout the day. I'm sure this would have been very comforting and helpful in planning your day. I'm glad to hear that they did show up on the delivery date, and apologize if you were not provided the installation and haul away that you expected.
Using the email address you registered with the forum, I was able to locate and review the purchase. Sadly, it doesn't appear that installation or haul away were added to the purchase, and I am truly sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused if you requested these services. I'm happy to find that you were able to get the dishwasher installed. Of course, notifying you in regards to the installation would have been pleasant and helpful for your experience
I'm grateful that you chose to share this experience with us.  I hope that this experience hasn't negatively influenced your future shopping destination. If you should have any questions, please let me know.
    Sincerely,

In MMBE though the stock shows under Unrestricted column, it also includes delivery created and saved without doing PGI.  So check in MD04 any delivery reference is flowing.

  • HDV project settings

    Hello
I am editing some footage shot on a JVC GY-HD110U mini dv camera in FCP 5.1 Every time I try and drag the captured footage onto the timeline I have to render. I have tried setting my sequence and a/v settings to various HDV set ups, including trying the easy set up but so far have had no luck. perhaps someone has some insight on what I am missing. Thanks for the help!

Check your editing time base. I haven;t used the gy hd-110 in a while but it might shoot at 59.94. Try that. Also, look to see if FCP automatically placed a shift fields filter in the filters bar. Double click on a clip in the timeline and look at the filters tab. I had this issue once. Solved it for me. If this does not work, look at all the settings in the Browser window. Slide the blue bar to the right and make sure the clip settings all match the sequence settings. The only one that should be different would be the 32bit floating integer in te audio settings. That is normal.

  • Native HDV

    Hi,
I see there are a number of experts on this forum and if could get an answer on this it would be much appreciated. I want to make sure my settings are capturing my footage at the greatest possible resolution. I have read several posts from Andy mentioning Native HDV as the way to go for best quality and I think what I'm doing is just that but I'm not sure.
The source is 1080i50 HDV shot on the sony Z1U camera. I am capturing the footage to the FCP via firewire and a Sony HVR-M15U deck.
My audio/video settings are as follows:
    Sequence preset hdv-1080i50
    Capture preset hdv
Device control preset Sony HDV 1080i50 Firewire
    Video Playback-None
    Audio Playback-Default
Again, any help would be appreciated.
    Dave

    Jerry,
Thanks for your help. I read your article in creative cow and learned a lot. If you see this, I have another question. I need to use the above mentioned material in a project where most of the material is as follows:
    Vid Rate 23.98
    Frane size 1280 x 720
    Compressor HDV 720p24
My eventual delivery requirement is a 1080i 29.97 tape.
Do you have any suggestions for converting the material? Some people have told me Compressor isn't good enough but After Effects might work. I'm still investigating.
    Thanks again
    Dave
