Header Definition in Load Rule

Hi,
Is there any limitation of defining members in "Data load Settings" under the "Header Definition" while creating a load rule?
let me explain the issue. There are say 13 dimensions in the outline and we have only 7 dimensions in the source file can we include the rest (members related to the other 6 dimensions) in the "Header definition"?
If YES, Is there any limitation?
Thanks,
RNG

I've not seen any limitation and believe I have done that many dimensions in a header. I have run into a bug (I think) in 9 and 11 that is you sue a substitution varible in the header, it can't be the last item in the header. For some reason, It does not always get recogonized

  • Substitution variable in Load rule Header Essbase 11.1.1.3

Think its obvious you can use substitution variable as a Header definition on Load rules, does version 11.1.1.3 has any issues' with it, i am running into Unexpected Essbase error 1019026.
    Error:
Unknown member [Mgmt Actual,Base,No Vertical,No Customer] found while processing string [Mgmt Actual","Base","No Vertical","No Customer]
    Unexpected Essbase error 1019026
I want to copy Actual data into other scenario's in ASO cube so thought will use substitution variables to eliminate duplication on load rules.
Mgmt Actual is a scenario set thru Substitution variable at the DB level
i.e *&CurScen="Mgmt Actual" (set at DB level)*
Header Definition on load rule *&CurScen,"Base","No Vertical","No Customer"*
Data load work fine If i replace substitution variable with original member *"Mgmt Actual","Base","No Vertical","No Customer"*.
I did notice some users complaining erratic behavior when substitution variables are placed in load rule header at the End on multiple members, i have tried all places End, First and Middle.
tried using single Load rule with EAS and MAXl same results.
i want to keep altering scenarios on header definition and use same rule files.
    alter database AppName.DbName set variable CurScen '"Mgmt Actual"';
Running out of ideas any help!

*1019026 Unknown member memberName found while processing string string*
    Possible Problems
Analytic Services does not recognize the listed string as a member of the outline.
    Possible Solutions
Make sure that the member name is valid. The member name is in the rules file.
    * Are you using the correct rules file?
    * Is the rules file connected to the correct outline?
    * Can you validate the rules file?
    * Are member names or variable names enclosed in quotation marks where necessary?
    * Does the member exist in the outline? If not, you can add the member by modifying the outline during the dimension build or add the member in the Outline Editor.
    * Make sure that the member is not specified as a header in the rules file.

  • Variable in the Load Rule file

    Hi,
We're running EAS 9.3.1 and trying to update a load rule to include a substitution variable in the header. The load rule works fine when the member name is defined explicitly and the variable works fine in the calc scripts. Any ideas? I tried removing the quotes and the & symbol already. See error below.
Reading Rule SQL Information For Database [Plan1]
Reading Rules From Rule Object For Database [Plan1]
Unknown member [&CalcVersion] found while processing string ["Budget","&CalcVersion","Load","Functional"]

    Thanks.

Did you remove the quotes by using the replace in "field Properties" and Global properties tab? I am trying to replace double quotes with null in the data file and it does not seems to be working.
    Thanks

  • Referencing a substitution variable in data load rule header definition

    Hi All,
Im trying to add a substitution variable to the header definition of a DLR.
    the sub var is &CurrMonth.
When I execute the data load I get an "unknown member error" with a list of all members in the header definition, including Oct which is my current month.
It looks like the DLR is resolving the sub var but for some reason it is refusing to load data.
    We are on 9.2.0.1.
Are sub vars referenced differently for DLR?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Seb!
Hope you're well. You're doing everything right with the subvars so the issue must be elsewhere. Is the list comma separated? Sorry I can' help more :(

  • Essbase Load Rules File Header Issue

    Hi,
Is it possible to specify more than one member for the same dimension in the Load Rules file Header?
Example: I need to load the same data in all the remaining months in current year.
I tried using a substitution variable in the header which is defined as Aug,Sep,Oct,Nov,Dec.
It loaded randomly. For each account, only one month is loaded.
It loads only as many data points as in the data file regardless of the number of members from the same dimension specified in the Header definition.
    Any suggestions to correct this.
Using a Calc script to do a data copy cannot be used because of other process limitations.
    Appreciate your thoughts.
    Thanks,
    -Ethan.

Randomly? That's really interesting. But yeah, I wouldn't expect that to work.
I have a hard time thinking of a really good option that will handle an variable number of periods and is driven by a single subvar.
Run the load multiple times, cycling through the subvar settings? Or (faster, if Period is dense) create one load rule for each period, with the data column copied multiple times using field manipulation and the future Periods assigned to each column (rather than using a 'Data' field) and run only the rule you need? That option doesn't use a subvar at all, but still requires conditional logic in the process.
Alternatively, do the transformation in your source extract / parse the file. This is really the 'best' option but I appreciate there are sometimes constraints on changing upstream processes.

  • Substitution Variables in Essbase Load Rules File

    Hi,
Has anyone tried using substitution variables in Load Rules File Header definition?
I need to load data based on the Year & I have different Files for 3 Years- CurYr, BudYr1 & BudYr2. Is it allowed to specify the Year Substitution variable in the Rule File Header? I am getting an error while loading.
    Appreciate your thoughts.
    Thanks,
    -Ethan.

    Tim,
    Thanks for the response.
I figured it out. The error message I was getting was because of some parsing issue. I have defined Year as "FY12" in quotes. I removed quotes & it worked.
    Thank You.

  • Add formula field in data load rule

    Hello,
I am trying to import data in Essbase from a txt file. The txt file contains data from an app with 12 dimensions and I want to load it into an app with 13 dimensions (View dimension for YTD is the extra dimension). Is that possible? I was thinking about adding an extra field in the data load rule which I would import as the sum of all other data fields. How would I do that?
    Thank you,
    Adina

    Hi,
Thank you both for your answers. But what confuses me is this: I created a rules file using a file with 12 columns. I selected the appropriate member for each column in Field Properties, and added the View member in the data load header. Then I get the error message: "This field is also defined in the header definition" for all fields. However, if I don't set the members in Field Properties and just set them in the data load header, I get another error message: "There is an unknown member (or no member) in the field name."
    Can you please help?
    Thank you!

  • Problem with load rule/server performance

    Version 11.1.2.1
Hi just a couple of questions:
    1) Load rule: I cannot retain the field property definition after I get my data from SQL. When I go define, save and re-open the load rule, the field property is still there. When I get the data from SQL it takes the column header from SQL. I've tried the header/record to skip the 1st record but it doesn't work. I have the same exact load rule in 9.3.1 and it retains the field properties. What am I doing wrong?
    2) I am curious as to why my Essbase server is really slow in general. I am running Microsoft Server 2008 R2 with 4 CPU * 2.3 GHz + 16 GB RAM. I know the processor is below requirement but it is dog slow. Just curious about some of you are using in terms of processors.
    Thanks

Typically when you build a load rule using SQL interface when you first retrieve data, it uses the SQL column names as the load rule field headers. After the retrieve, you shuold be able to go into the field properties and change the names to the Dimension names. I've not see where once you set the filed names in field peoperties, it overrides them with SQL column names. If you are gettting thie, I suggest you open an SR with Oracle. The workaround as someone suggested is in your SQL to use the actual Essbase names as the column names
Like in the case of Sample.Basic
    Select
    SKU as Products
    ,State as MArket
    ,'Actual' as scenario
    ,Measures
    ,Jan
    from XXXXXX

  • Using Sql views in Load rules

<p>I am trying to create a load rule from a SQL view. When I openthe Sql in the Rules file, the headers show up, but there is nodata.</p><p>Is there something else I need to do? (I did not create the SQLviews myself)</p><p>I am quite capable of loading data/dimensions from a SQL queryor table, but this table needed to be combined with another so myMIS supprt created a view for me to use to load from.</p><p> </p><p>Any help would be greatly appreciated!</p><p> </p><p> </p>

I had probems with certain column types in the past. Had to convert them to strings. It's been a while so I dont remember what type. The best way to find something like this is to modify your sql to return one column, try it and see it it works, if it does, then add a the second column, etc. It can be tedious if you have a lot of columns but beats sitting there scratching your head.

  • Load rule failure in ASO cube building

    Hi
I have an ASO cube and I'm trying to use a load rule to build my entire Measures dimension. Everything seemed to be working fine before, I had about 7,000 measures tagged with a particular UDA, however, now when I do the build, only about 2,200 of the members are getting tagged with the UDA, although there is no error file. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to why some members are successfully getting the UDA assigned to them and some aren't. I even tried creating a new load rule and using a text file with the particular accounts, and again, it says everything was fine, but when I go back and look at the outline it's hit and miss. Any thoughts?

    Hi,
I dont see any reason ,why it add UDA's for few and does not for few.
I request you to do the following
    1. Check the data file
    2. Check the rule file
    3. and as per the definitions of the rule file ( i.e build properties, data source options ..etc.
see ,whether the data file is in harmony.

  • Load Rule validates, yet no data values modified

The load rule worked on a server running an NT operating system with essbase version 6.1.3. I rebuilt the application on a server running W2k with an essbase version 6.1.6. The load rule validates on the new server. The load looks as if it is loading correctly. When I check out the log file, it shows a warning number 1003035 with a message stating "No data values modified by load of this data file." Any ideas??? Creating a new load rule from scratch did not work. My next plan of attack is to check out the actual txt file to see if anything looks odd.

Have you got any record select or record reject statements in your rules?

    Hi All,
I am trying to open a .csv file in a load rule to find it is working correctly. But, I am not given an option to look at the .csv files when I click on "Open Data File" option from the File menu.
    Please suggest.

I have tried that as well.
But, It is not giving me that option, "All files".
    It is just showing

  • How to use a substitution variable in a load rule?

I need to use a substitution variable in a load rule in a column, as I will receive a parameter to fix the Month and Year values within the data loading, could somebody tell me if this is possible. I put an expresion "&Yearproc" in the column value but it is not working.

If you're a member of ODTUG (or even if not, you can sign up for an associate membership for free) you can download Glenn's presentation from 2009 Kaliedoscope "Little Used Features of Essbase (Like Data Mining and Triggers)" -- there is a section in that presentation on substitution variables -- he does a really good job in showing how this works.
Go to: www.odtug.com, then Tech Resources, then Essbase/Hyperion, and search for Schwartzberg. Currently it's the ninth presentation on the list -- I think this changes based on popularity of downloads.
