Heading 1: Sun Cluster with Zones using IP type=exclusive

Dear Forums Members,
I am trying to install a Sun Cluster with Clustered Zones that the IP type=exclusive.
This does not seem possible as the IPMP does not work.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Wayne

Hi,
The network interface should NOT be a legacy one.
To Check run the following
dladm show-link the interface should not be legacy type
Also when zonecfg add net just set the physical attribute, set the address inside the zone when it is up.

• Sun cluster with netapps filers

Has any one running sun cluster 3 with netapps filers. We would primary running oracle databases but would be running some apps servers as well.
There does appear to be some issues in rgard to the fact that NFS file locking is not the same as on a standard filesystem.
Also I can see how the logical host would be setup to mount a NFS filesystem instead of say mounting a filesystem that is using volume maanager

Today, only Oracle RAC is supported under Sun Cluster 3.1
using NetApp filers as shared storage. RAC has a builtin
distributed lock manager to arbitrate access to the shared
files. If you want to use your own application, then it needs
a lock manager or you can wait for a later Sun Cluster release.

• Sun Cluster with Netapps - iSCSI quorum and network port

I am proposing Sun cluster with Netapps 3020C.
May I know
1) OS is Solaris 9. The SUN OSP says that we need to obtain an iSCSI license from Netapps. Is this the iSCSI initiator software for Solaris 9 to talk to the NAS quorum? Or do I need to purchased a 3rd party iSCSI initiator ?
2) We provide 2 network ports for the Netapps private NAS LAN. Is it a must to cater another dedicated network port for the iSCSI communication with the quorum?
3) If we need purchase a 3rd party iSCSI initiator, where can we get this? I have checked Qlogic and Cisco, they are both not suitable for my solution.
Appreciate your help

Hi,
1) OS is Solaris 9. The SUN OSP says that we need to
obtain an iSCSI license from Netapps. Is this the
iSCSI initiator software for Solaris 9 to talk to the
NAS quorum? Or do I need to purchased a 3rd party
iSCSI initiator ?Have a look at http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/817-7957/6mn8834r2?a=view
I read the "Requirements When Configuring NAS Devices as Quorum Devices"
section as this is the license for the iSCSI inititator software.
So you need to enable iSCSI on the netapps box and need to install a package from netapps (NTAPclnas) on the cluster nodes.
2) We provide 2 network ports for the Netapps
private NAS LAN. Is it a must to cater another
dedicated network port for the iSCSI communication
with the quorum?Have a look at http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-0580/6n30eahcc?a=view#ch4_quorum-9
I don't read such a requirement there.
3) If we need purchase a 3rd party iSCSI initiator,
where can we get this? I have checked Qlogic and
Cisco, they are both not suitable for my solution.
Appreciate your helpI don't thibk you need such a 3rd party iSCSI initiator, unless this is stated in the above docs.

• SUn Cluster with multiple nodes

Hi,
I am planning to setup Sun Cluster with 3+ nodes.
is it possible to configure sun cluster with just two network interfaces on each box. (One for Public access and second for cluster interconnection via dedicated switch)?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Yes, but only if the adapters support VLAN tagging.
That way you would be able to create two tagged VLANs on each adapter, one for public and one for private traffic. You'd also need a switch that supported VLAN tagging, but I think these are fairly common now.
If your NICs do not support tagging then you'd need to get another adapter to allow Sun Cluster to install.

• Sun cluster with vxvm encapsulated rootdisk

Hi,
Can I install vxvm and encasulate rootdisk before installing sun cluster?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Its suggested to install vxvm and encapsulation using the scvxinstall script which is provided with SunCluster.
This script will do all the job which you have to do manually like reminoring the rootdg etc.

• Sun Cluster with three nodes

I need a manual or advices for introducing a third node in a RAC with Sun Cluster. I don't know if qourum votes readjust automatic or I have add new quorum votes manualy, if I have to add a thirn mediator in svm ... etc
A lot of thanks and sorry for my english

After you have added your nodes to the cluster you will need to expand the RGs node list to include the new nodes if you need the RG to run on them. This is not automatic. Something like:
# clrg set -n <nodelist> <rg_name>
Is what you need.
I'm not sure I understand what you said about the quorum count. Only nodes and quorum devices (QD) or quorum servers (QS) get a vote, cabinets do not. So each node gets a vote and a QD/QS gets a vote count equal to the number of nodes it connects to minus 1. Thus with a two node cluster, you have 3 votes with one QD. With a 4 node cluster with one fully connected QD/QS, you have 7 votes (after re-adding it).
Hope that helps,
Tim
P.S. <shameless plug> I can recommend a good book on the product: "Oracle Solaris Cluster Essentials" ;-)

• Sun Cluster with QFS

Dear Gurus
I want to Install Oracle 10 G with QFS filesystem in first phase , and later i want to install Sun Cluster
Is this possible ?
Regards

The original post doesn't make it clear whether you are doing Oracle 10g R2 RAC or HA-Oracle. In the RAC case, the answer is definitely no. In the HA case, the answer is that it is probably tricky enough to make you want to avoid doing it.

We can use multipart api for uploading files, but if the file selected by the user is not by the file type filed the file contents won’t come as part in the jsp submission and I can’t assign the file names selected by the user through the applet to any FILE (hidden ) type in jsp .Well i think thats a wrong notion which you have...
you can very well get non-file type field data & file item data from a multipart form.
Anyways,Letz checkout a simple example(refer to the below Code-snippet down below) which can do that task for us and it uses commons-fileupload & commons-io libraries.

NOTE:* Do not forget to add latest versions of commons-fileupload.jar & commons-io.jar in your classpath. You might get few warings due some issues with regards to generics please neglect them.
and it is not certain that you ought to use commons libraries for this there are many other alternative solutions available by which you can implement a similar functionality.
Hope this might help !!! if that does do not forget to assign/share duke dollars which you have promised :)

• Deploy HA Zones with Sun Cluster

Hi
I have 2 physical Sol 10 Servers with a storedge array for the shared storage.
I have installed Sun Cluster 3.3 on both nodes and sorted the quorum and shared drive using a zfs file system for a mount point
Next i have installed a non global zone on 1 node using the zone path on the shared filesystem
When i switch the shared file system the zone is not instaalled on the 2nd node.
So when i try to install the zone on the 2nd node
i get a Rootpath is already mounted on this filesystem
Does anyone know how to setup a Sun Cluster with HA Zones please.

The option to forcibly attach a zone got added to zoneadm with a Solarus 10 Update release. With that option the procedure to configure and install a zone for HA Container use can be:
The assumption is there is already a RG configured with a HASP resource managing the zpool for the zone rootpath:
a) Swithch the RG online on node A
b) Configure (zonecfg) and install (zoneadm) the zone on node A on shared storage
c) boot the zone and go through interactive sysidcfg within "zlogic -C zonename"
d) Switch the RG hosting the HASP resource for the pool to node B
e) Configure (zonecfg) the zone on node B.
f) "Install" the zone by forcibly attaching it: zoneadm -z <zonename> attach -F
The user can then test if the zone boots on node B, halt it and proceed with the sczbt resource registration as described within http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E18728_01/html/821-2677/index.html.

• Bizzare Disk reservation probelm with sun cluster 3.2 - solaris 10 X 4600

We have a 4 node X4600 sun cluster with shared AMS500 storage. There over 30 LUN's presented to the cluster.
When any of the two higher nodes ( ie node id 2 and node is 3 ) are booted, their keys are not added to 4 out of 30 LUNS. These 4 LUNs show up as drive type unknown in format. I've noticed that the only thing common with these LUN's is that their size is bigger than 1TB
To resolve this I simply scrub the keys, run sgdevs than they showup as normal in format and all nodes keys are present on the LUNS.
Has anybody come across this behaviour.
Commands used to resolve problem
1. check keys #/usr/cluster/lib/sc/scsi -c inkeys -d devicename
2. scrub keys #/usr/cluster/lib/sc/scsi -c scrub -d devicename
3. #sgdevs
4. check keys #/usr/cluster/lib/sc/scsi -c inkeys -d devicename
all node's keys are now present on the lun

Hi,
according to http://www.sun.com/software/cluster/osp/emc_clarion_interop.xml you can use both.
So at the end it all boils down to
- cost: Solaris multipathing is free, as it is bundled
- support: Sun can offer better support for the Sun software
You can try to browse this forum to see what others have experienced with Powerpath. From a pure "use as much integrated software as possible" I would go with the Solaris drivers.

• Wrong hostname setting after Sun Cluster failover

Hi Gurus,
our PI system has been setup to fail over in a sun cluster with a virtual hostname s280m (primary host s280 secondary host s281)
The basis team set up the system profiles to use the virtual hostname, and I did all the steps in SAP Note 1052984 "Process Integration 7.1 High Availability" (my PI is 7.11)
Now I believe to have substituted "s280m" in every spot where previously "s280" existed, but when I start the system on the DR box (s281), the java stack throws erros when starting. Both SCS01 and DVEBMGS00 work directories contain a file called dev_sldregs with the following error:

Please note that the PI system is transparent about the Failover system used.
When you configure the parameters against the mentioned note, this means that in case one of the nodes is down, the load will be sent to another system under the same Web Dispatcher/Load Balancer.
When using the Solaris failover solution, it covers the whole environment, including the web dispatcher, database and all nodes.
Therefore, please check the configuration as per the page below, which talks specifically about the Solaris failover solution for SAP usage:

• Sun cluster and oracle RAC

my client is insisting on putting oracle RAC on top of sun cluster, the thing is i don't know what is the benifit of creating such an architecture, i tries to search on the internet but couldn't understand the benifits nor the advantage, Kindly if some one has implemented such an architecture to let us know the use and the benifits

Hi,
Here on my environment, there is SUNCluster only for single instances. The Clusterware Oracle is complete providing high availability and load balance for your database, you don't need sun cluster with this case, no advantages gained. The only thing controlled by SUNCluster on my RAC environment is QFS (Cluster file system from SUN).
If search on this forum, there are many discussion by this topic (suncluster X RAC) like this post Re: Sun Cluster.. Why?

Can anybody tell me what all profile I need to apply? When I apply Cluster Security Hardenning driver profile, Cluster interconnect stop functioning untill I disable the IP filter.

Hi Tim,
I would like to get clarified on the same question, There are many profiles which can be applied as part of hardenning, (Ex, Cluster config, Cluster Security, Server Config, Server Security etc), For a sun cluster which in failover configuration, Do I need to install both, Server Security as well as cluster security, or either one only?
I am afraid if it would make some changes and if something goes wrong, I will have to backout the jass profile.
Just for clarification
