Help! Authentication to start iplanet server in Solaris 8
Hello,
We are using iPlanet Web Server 6.1 in Solaris 8.0 . we are stoping and starting the server using the root login. We could not start and stop the server using other login(roles, normal user, etc).
I got permission denied error.
Which authorization or authentication we have to assign to the role to start and stop the iplanet web server.
What are the changes i have to make in the files user_attr,prof_attr,auth_attr,exec_attr.
please help me,
thanks in advance,
balachandar.
Ports below 1024 are considered privileged and require root permission to bind to them.
Check your OS docs for how to relax these restrictions.

Problem when clicks on class manager in iplanet server on solaris operating
we have succefully deployed an application in iplanet server on solaris operating system. The deployed application is working fine. Now the problem is when I loged in as admin and clicks on class manager we are getting "page cannot be displayed" error . we are unable to find how to resolve this.
here we are accesing system from remote place.is there any privilages required to resolve this issue.As far as I know Class Manager is a general predeployed web application and everything should be in
administration server's log/s.
So customize Error Log Preferences on
Administration Server -> Preferences page
and check what is going on.
Probably it's also worth to ask at Sun Java System Web Server forum:

Stopping Pointbase server...
Pointbase server stopped.I believe this is the error you get when you try to start up a JVM with the commandline option '-native'.
Remove this flag from your startup script and retry.
By the way, it may be that you have the environment variable 'JAVA_OPTIONS' set to '-native' in which case:
(first confirm this is the case)
$ echo $JAVA_OPTIONS
-native
(Then edit the startup script if you get the result above)
add in a line:
# To remove '-native' flag
unset JAVA_OPTIONS
and retry.
I have to confess I don't know what the '-native' flag is actually supposed to do, but my JVM also reports back that this is unsupported. -

I am currently working on rmi project.
I want to send request to remote machine(Web host) where my application is from desktop client .For that we are using RMI.
I am writing servlet and inside it i am binding object to registry for rmi server.
which will be deployed on remote server.
code ....
Registry reg;
reg=LocateRegistry.createRegistry(1099);
Server server=new Server("server");//class whose remote object to be accessed
//extends unicast remote object.Implement ServerInt interface which extends Remote.
reg.bind("server",server);
When i am trying to access this object i am getting following exception.

Has anyone managed to setup a WLS 7.0 Active Directory authenticator and booted

must contain a copy of the file 'SerializedSystemIni.dat' that was created along
with the domain, in order to boot when an AD authenticator is configured. If an
AD authenticator is not configured, no file is required. This was not a platform
specific issue; on Win2K I had configured the 'domain root' remote start parameter
to point to an existing domain root and not a new directory.

MuraliYou're getting that probably because the WL instance was not shut down properly.
If that's the case, you'll need to remove an ldap lock file (with a .lok extension) in the directory of ldap files (under the server dir) . -
Problem when clicks on class manager in sunone server on solaris operating
we have succefully deployed an application in iplanet server on solaris operating system.
So customize Error Log Preferences on
Administration Server -> Preferences page
and check what is going on.
Probably it's also worth to ask at Sun Java System Web Server forum:

Mapping ACLs between Solaris10 ZFS server and Solaris 9 client ??
The NFS server is Solaris 10 with a ZFS filesystem. The client is Solaris 9. Using NFSv3 over tcp. If we go to the Sol10 box and set a simple ACL on a directory we never see any indication that an ACL is set from the Sol9 client. The "ls -l" will not show a "+" for the directory. The ACL permissions actually work from the client side, however. What we need is some method for the Sol9 users to actually see that there is an ACL set. Getfacl does not work.
Testing this arrangement with a Fedora 8 client still using NFSv3, the ls -l will show the "+" character.
thanks for your help,

Hi,
What is that you are trying to accomplish ? Is it deployment or
trying to develop applications ? Are you getting any errors ? If so,
please post them to help you. I think the documentation is the best place
for you to begin with.
Regards & Happy New Year
