HELP:   Deleted the group "admin" through NetInfo Manager. HELP

I deleted (by accident) the group "admin" through NetInfo Manager and don't know what do to now.
I probably have the files necessary to restore but don't know which files!
Or is there another way to recreate the group "admin" and then assign the users (only two out of 6) back into it?
HELP HELP

Dick,
There are certainly methods of recreating the admin group in your current Netinfo Database, but I am of the opinion that it is usually simpler to just delete the Netinfo Database and re-create whatever accounts you currently have.
Provided you know the exact order in which your existing accounts were created, this is easy to do. Follow these instructions:
* Perform steps 1, 2, 4, and 5 in section III of this kbase article, making sure that you follow the instructions at the top of the article for correctly mounting your startup disk as read/write in single-user mode (step #1). Perform only the steps I have listed.
* When you perform step #5, you will restart into the "Setup Assistant." Use the Setup Assistant to create a new "initial" admin account using the exact same username and user short name as the original "initial" admin account. You might be required to enter complete contact information for registration with Apple, but you may skip "Connecting to the Internet," "Sending Registration to Apple," etc. Skipping these steps will leave an alias for registering in your HOME folder, but this alias can be safely deleted once you are logged in (you are, after all, already registered with Apple). You may also use your current Apple ID to have all of this information filled in for you, but this requires that your machine be able to connect to the internet.
* Once logged into your admin account, use System Preferences>Accounts to recreate any "secondary" accounts, again using the exact same username and user short name as the original accounts. Recreate these accounts in the exact order that they were created originally. In each case, you will be told that there is an existing HOME folder with the same short name, and that this HOME folder will be used for this new account. This is what you want.
If you have questions about using this method for recovering from your current dilemma, just ask.

  • Will I loose apps (excel, word,etc...)when I delete the orig admin. on a used Mac pro

I purchased a used mac book pro late 2009 model and wanted to know if I will delete the applications(excel,word,etc...) if and when I delete the original administrator.  I was able to create a new administrator ID, so I want to delete the previous admin.   Also what else would you reccommend  in setting up the Mac book to get the old owner info off the system, is there a way/ how do i change the system password, etc...? Obviously I am new to macs, any and all info would be great!  Thanks for the help!!!

Did the seller give you the License keys and the DVD disc, or discs, to re-install and re-activate those MS Office programs? If not then you should delete them as they are not yours and he sold you pirated software.
Also if that 2009 Mac came with Mac OS X Lion installed when you got it that is another piece of pirated software and you will have no way of Reinstalling that version of OS X without the sellers Apple ID and Password.
Also did he supply the Original System Discs, which there should be 2, with the system? If not you will need to contact Apple and get a Set of Replacement Discs for that system for a fee of around $40. Then wipe the drive, reinstall the version of OS X that originally came with that system. Then get whatever discs or downloads are needed to upgrade that system to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and then buy Lion or Mt Lion from the Mac App store using your own Apple ID.
Or you could just return it to the person that sold it to you and get your money back.
    Caveat Emptor.

  • Why did Migration Asst. not delete the previous admin and info?

So I used Migration Assistant to transfer all of my info over to my Macbook Pro. I thought the old Admin would be deleted and I would be the only one, but the old Admin is still the main Admin on there. Also I noticed the addressbook has his info (address,email,etc.). Is there a way to delete the Main Admin? Or do I have to do a clean install of Snow Leopard again and transfer my info from my other Macbook to this after I do that? Any help would be appreciated.

Or do I have to do a clean install of Snow Leopard again and transfer my info from my other Macbook to this after I do that?
Yes, that would be best. First have a read of the following article which shows how to go about it.

How can I leave a group in iMessage?
I delete the group in iMessage because I don't want to receive any more messages.
Nevertheless, whenever a member sends a message, I get all the messages again. I have only deleted the previos messages.
In the users manual, they only tell how how to create a group, but not how to leave it.
    Thank you.

    Sorry you can't.

  • Is it possible to delete the original Admin Account, having set up other Admin Accounts on the computer?

Is it possible to delete the original Admin Account, having set up other Admin Accounts on the computer?
    Thanks,
    iHope

Once you have an additional Admin Account, there should be nothing "magical" about the original Admin account.
The Account you use to delete the original MUST be an Admin Account, or the old account cannot be deleted. But that is the "Acid test" for the veracity of the new Admin account.

  • Can I prevent a user from Deleting the Group Policy deployed power plan?

I have Power Manager version 3.20 installed and am using the Group Policy template to deploy a customized power plan.  I do not want my users to have the ability to delete this custom plan, but I cannot find the option in the Group Policy to change the setting that would grey-out the Delete button in Power Manager.
I have located the registry value that changes the function of Power Manager, it is: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Lenovo\PWRMGRV\PowerSchemes\42617646-BC99-48E2-B3AF-C562C25F4098\ProhibitModification.  If the value is 0, then the delete button is available.  If the value is 5, then the delete button is greyed-out.
The problems is that the Power Plan ID number (the 42617646-BC99... part in the reg key above) changes from computer to computer.  That ID string seems to be tied somehow to the specific computer.  So, I cannot just create a Group Policy Preference to change that value in the registry, because that value is always going to have a different name.
The computers are all ThinkPad T400 model and are running Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit.
Can anyone suggest a different method to change this setting?  If not, is there any chance that the Power Manager application can be upgraded to include this control?
    Thank you!

    welcome to the forum!
to add to what gan said, page 6 of the power manager deployment guide covers this policy over active directory.

  • Deleted the CS6 trial, but App Manager thinks I still have Photoshop and Illustrator installed.

I had previously installed, used, and then deleted the Photoshop and Illustrator CS6 trials. I recently subscribed to the Creative Cloud, but when I try to install Photoshop and Illustrator from the Adobe Application Manager, it just says they are "Up to Date," but I can't find them anywhere on the Mac or the Applications folder like they used to be.
Do I need to delete a file or folder somewhere else for the App Manager to realize I don't have them installed anymore?
    Thank you for your help.
I am currently running OS X, 10.8.2, 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 with 4GB RAM.

Run the Adobe Cleaner Tool then try downloading via the AAM again.

  • Deleting the Older BWA Sources in Manage Space Tab

    Hello,
I am currently facing an issue in deleting the older BWA Sources under the Manage Spaces Tabs. As part of my project, I happened to create a good number of BWA sources but now when it was time to delete those I am unable to do so. The list just keeps populating with newer BWA Sources being created on each day and it is becoming hard to keep a track on that list.
So, I was wondering if someone could help me with deleting those BWA Sources.
(P.S. I tried the right click option on the BWA Source to see if it could throw me an option to delete them but, no such option turned out.)
Also, after creating the Information Spaces, its list under the Home tab too gets populated and does not have the option to delete the older Information Spaces.
    Thank You

It is safe to uninstall the older versions.
    Cheers,
    Jeff

  • Unable to fetch the group description through object model

    Hi,
We have a application, that uses object model to create HNSCs in SharePoint 2013 server. Using the application, we also manage groups and subsites.
While fetching the description of the groups we are facing some issues. The scenario is explained below:
A HNSC is created in farm, url being http://example.contosso.com. Under the root site, two groups group1 and group2, with different permissions. No description is provided while creating group1 from our application. Now, after browsing the site, when a description
is added for group1, in the "About Me" section, our application is unable to fetch the data from the farm.
On the other hand, when description is provided for group2 from our application, it is properly reflected in the farm, under the "About Me" section of group2.
We are using SPGroup.Description for fetching the group description and setting the group description.
Can anybody please suggest, as to why the group description is not properly fetched from the farm.
    Thanks in advance,
    Arnab

  • How to delete the group "On My iPhone" Contacts Group

My wide and I use the same computer. iTunes is set up to Synch my iPhone to Outlook. My wife's iPhone was connected to iTunes and uploaded all Outlook Contacts to her iPhone in the "On My iPhone Contacts". How can I delete all contacts in this Group "On My iPhone"?

    Hi sandeepvaja,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like you have a lot of other data on the iPhone. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you isolate or resolve the issue.
If you get a "Not enough free space" alert on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Orphaned files might remain on your iOS device if it's physically disconnected while syncing music, podcasts, videos, or photos. This can prevent iTunes from syncing the iOS device on subsequent sync sessions. When this happens, you might see a large amount of "Other" disk usage for the iOS device in the Capacity indicator in iTunes. Try these steps:
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Accidently deleted default user account in Netinfo Manager Utility

I don't care about the data in the previous account. But now I cannot log in and I know nothing about Mac OS X. How do I create a new account? The computer has 10.3.9. Also, are the applications I installed still there if I setup a new account? I don't have the OS X disk.

Sometimes the original (or possibly another Apple) keyboard is required for early startup override procedures because necessary software for third party support which loads as part of the main system hasn't loaded yet. In other words, your Logitech devices are not working at that early stage.

  • What is the 10.5 replacement app for NetInfo Manager in 10.4?

Am reasonably sure I'm having user/permission issues ( apps blowing up when printing or saving a file ), (unknown user) populating many getinfo windows. Clean install of 10.5/1/2, then dragging over files from my old account ( 10.4.11, files rescued by Data RescueII ) ) to new drive. Much screwey-ness ensues...
Anyway, I'm thinkin' that a trip through NetInfo Manager would do the trick, ( realign User/Group ID's, etc. ) - but no can find. Is there a central place to this in 10.5? Or is 10.5 not quite fully baked yet...?
    jeff

    Jeff,
No, there's no Netinfo Manager. The closest thing to it is Directory Utility.app, but it doesn't handle users and groups like NM did.
There is a command line application to manipulate users and groups, but it is not well documented at this time. A better, GUI alternative is to download and install the OS X Server Tools, and use the Workgroup Manager utility (yes, it works perfectly well on OS X client).
However, your problem has nothing to do with "wonky" groups, but rather incorrect group ownership. You don't need to mess with the database, but rather you need to correct the ownership of the files. First, a bit about Leopard...
In recent versions of OS X (as you probably know), a paradigm has been in place where users are given a unique group based on their short name and UID. For whatever reasons, Apple has backpedaled on this, and users have now been returned to the "staff" group, globally. Given the fact that we are now securely in the realm of ACLs, instead of traditional POSIX permissions, this makes a lot of sense.
The problem, though, is that files and folders migrated from an earlier system will, in many cases, retain the old group ownership, and Leopard has no way to recognize such. Thus, the dreaded "unknown" group. Fortunately, this can easily be corrected with a simple, but carefully-applied command in Terminal:
    <pre style="overflow:auto; font-family: 'Monaco'; font-size: 10px">sudo chown -R username:staff /some_directory</pre>
In the above command, you must replace "username" with your own short name (or that of the user to whom you wish to grant ownership). For the "/some_directory" variable, I would recommend just dragging the folder in question into the Terminal window from the Finder. Just make sure that you do not change the ownership of any system files, and everything should be fine.
When you press <RETURN> after typing this command, you will be asked for your admin password. Enter it (it will not be echoed) and again press <RETURN>.

  • Delete Yammer Group through REST API

    Hi All,
Is there any REST API from yammer which enables us to delete Yammer groups. We would just have to pass groupid(s) to the rest api url and my yammer groups should get deleted.
I tried googling but could not find any. except these: https://www.yammer.com/api/v1/group_memberships.json?group_id=:4309911 which just deletes user from a group. Is there any rest api to delete the group itself ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Subhash S.

    Hi,
According to your description, you want to delete a group in Yammer using the REST API endpoint of Yammer.
As it is more relate to Yammer development, it would be more appropriate to ask for help in the corresponding forum, you will get more help and confirmed answers there:
