Help for my poor printer

Question

This is about Louie and me, and it’s no joke. Louie is an HP 2100TN commercial printer. As a Presbyterian minister I could never afford him; so, when I retired I got him in trade for my office desk. I’ve cleaned and polished Louie every day for ten years; he runs like brandy new, and we’re long and trusted friends.
Recently I upgraded to Mac Snow Leopard, which can’t find Louie even though he’s still sitting right there on his stand and Apple says it still supports him. I called Louie’s creator, Hewlett Packard, who said they won’t help - Louie’s too old - I should give them money and buy a new printer. A machine like Louie, but without the personality, is $700. I don’t have $700. I have only Louie, and a broken heart. Scant comfort that, though I’m old, too, I still get technical support from my doctors.
The Apple folks say the problem is that Louie has a built-in static IP address which puts him on a different subnet than that of my LAN, which is driven by an AT&T 2-Wire modem/router connected to the internet. I need to change the third integer in that address (192.168.0.20) to a “1.” But Louie has no control panel, so I can’t muck around in his innards. Since a way must exist to change that IP address, I think the solution is in software - in Windows software, probably, which I can run on my Mac, but don’t have. Nor even a clue what it is.
If you could help me, the life you save wouldn’t be your own, but it would be Louie’s - not to mention mine, at least figuratively speaking. How can I change that IP address? If you know, passing the info along would probably make you feel at least a little good all over.

According the HP website, you should be able to access the internal webpage of the printer through the Bonjour tab on Safari's Bookmarks page. Since you are not getting through to Louie, you may need to connect him directly to your computer to do this. Once you have done this, you should be able to make the changes you need. If you cannot get to Louie through Bonjour, try using his current address in a web browser: 192.168.0.20
Alternatively, there may be some way to reset Louie to the factory defaults, at which point you should be able to see him as a Bonjour printer.
