HELP!!!! Mac Mail (mac os 10.3.9) no messages in sent folders

PLEASE HELP!!!!. I Was having a problem viewing sent mail on one of my mail accounts. I got a message saying that I would have to take the account online and that the message has not been downloaded from the server. Then I did some research on the forums which instructed me to rebuild the mailbix. When I did that, the senty box became completely EMPTY! Then I was instructed to go to the home/mail folder and drag all the pop accounts to the desktop which would rebuild the folders. In the meantime, it seems that Ive lost the sent mail accounts altogether and am re-receiving all the mail (as unread) to my inboxes. I JUST WANT MY SENT MAIL BACK! What should I do????

The folder is 1.29 GB.
This caused the problem.
"The message from ...concerning “subject” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it.. What's that all about?
That is mentioned here.
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1895
I did, however try using entourage (from the microsoft application) and was able to see all my sent mail.
That at least works around the problem.

  • My Mac Mail program no longer stores any files in my Sent folder.  When I try to send an e-mail it just spins.  What's up?

My Mac Mail program no longer stores any files in my Sent folder.  Moreover, the sent folder (off to the left) contains a highlighted "1" as if something is in there.
When I try to send an e-mail message, it simply spins.
This is new behavior for my Laptop of three years.  Usually, I have lots of messages in my Sent folder and can easily send e-mail.
I see no discussion forum for "Mail" or for "e-mail" so I raise this question here.
I would appreciate any help anyone might offer.
    Thanks.

Thank you for your reply.  Turns out, re-started my Macbook later and the problem disappeared.  Could this have helped?

I'm using the latest version of mail but not very good in dealing with computer problems.  My email supplier is Bt Internet.
    Can anyone help

I have seen something similar once. A message on the mail server was corrupted and the download would never complete, but would always start the next time I launched Mail. It was the oldest message, so Mail always started with it, blocking all other mail. Deleting the file on the server was the solution. Don't know if that fits your situation. Good luck. BTW, I called my ISP's tech support and they watched the server's actions and could see that the file was not actually transferring. Give yours a call.

  • My mac mail on just keeps sending the same messages even after deleted and shows thousands of emails supposed to be coming in

If you have a backup, you can restore the e-mails. Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Library/Mail/V2.

  • Help!  My Mac Mail account is locking up, says "Copying message to Outbox"

I can receive e-mail but not send. When I try to send, Mac Mail "locks up" with the message "Copying message to Outbox". Any suggestions on how to fix?

    You’re welcome.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, and ensuring that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), try this:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down. This is where all your mail is locally stored.
    3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see any other “Envelope Index”-named file there, delete it as well.
    4. Move any “IMAP-”, “Mac-”, or “Exchange-” account folders to the Trash. Note that you can do this with IMAP-type accounts because they store mail on the server and Mail can easily re-create them. DON’T trash any “POP-” account folders, as that would cause all the mail stored there to be lost.
    5. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index — Mail says it’s “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
    6. As a side effect of having removed the IMAP account folders, those accounts may be in an “offline” state now. Do Mailbox > Go Online to bring them back online.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

  • Mac Mail suddenly gave me a fatal error message

    Hello there:
Yesterday out of the blue, I got an error message (wish I would have written it down) that Mail had a fatal error and needed to be re-set. And a button to click to start now. Which I did. It took about 30 minutes to remake, and now I show that I have 6600 unread messages and I don't. The 2nd problem is now I can't sent attachments as all. I get an error message theta they are too big - when they're not.
    Hoping someone can help,
    Susan

    I'm having the same problem.
Bought a new iMac that had Snow Leopard when shipped. Transferred everything fine from my PowerPC iMac running Leopard to the new iMac with Snow Leopard. Got everything setup and then received my free upgrade notification from Apple.
Performed the upgrade and since then Mail is forever preparing to import messages, but only for 1 of the 2 login accounts.

  • Force Mac Mail File/Save As to use Raw Message Source

Mac Mail version 6.3.  When using File/Save As, is there a way to force the save as format to be "Raw Message Source" always?  I change it to that, but over time it seems to switch back to Rich Text and I know I didn't change it.

    Thank you.
I saved the email as Raw in a folder on my desktop, then went to file-import mailbox in mail, and tried to import it. I got a message that it saved to an import folder in the mailbox list, but there is no such file. I tried making an Import folder and import it again, but it did not work.
Then I tried saving as Plain Text and Rich Text Format. I got an error that No valid Mail for Mac OS X files were found.
I have SpamSieve, could that be a problem?

  • HT2500 Mac mail macbook pro 10.6.8 receiving messages hear chime but no mail notification. cannot see or open

Mac Mail. receiving messages. I hear chime. Cannot see notifications in inbox or mail icon in dock. Thus cannot open messages. Macbook pro 2009 10.6.8.

    Hi Softwater,
Thanks for your kind and swift response.
It's not the recent e-mails which I'm worried about.
They can stay on the server until I've resolved my OLD e-mails, 99% of which are long deleted from their servers.
I'm deliberately keeping Mail offline until I've retrieved my 20 year e-mail history, all of which has been put into sub-folders within sub-folders within sub-folders.
I've got to get my e-mail history back.
    Thanks.
    Best,
    Michael

  • Mac mail can receive but can't send messages

mac mail, can receive messages, but can't send messages. The sent symbol just spins around, but does not send.

I am using Mail 7.3, on OS X 10.9.4 (i.e. latest as of Aug 2014).   I have 4 email accounts, all with their own SMTP servers.   All stopped sending email at the same time.
Taking the hint from your suggestion, I looked in Mail > Preferences > Accounts, and all the SMTP servers were shown as offline (this must be a Mac Mail bug).  All accounts appear to be Online under Mail > Mailbox (pulldown), and are also Online if one highlights the Inbox account, right click.
The trigger for the bug, in my case, was adding a new email account, and when Mail could not access it, it took everything offline.  Removing that account did not solve the problem.
After spending hours trying all sorts of alternatives, I found the way to solve the problem was to delete all the outgoing mail servers, and reenter the information (the same information).

  • My Mac mail is showing that I have flagged messages, but I've cleared them all out! I'm running Mac mail 7.3.

My Mac mail is showing that I still have flagged messages in my Inbox, but I've cleared them all out. I'm running Mac mail 7.3 on my Macbook Pro, OS X Mavericks 10.9.4. Most of the fixes that I've found are for Smart mailboxes, which I don't use - this is solely for my flagged messages. My Junk and Trash mailboxes have been cleared as well.

Back up all data. Rebuild the mailbox.

  • Mail won't automatically apply rules to messages in "sent" folder

The title says it all. Is this a bug? Mail lets you set rules for items in the "sent" folder, but apple won't automatically apply the rules like it will for all other mail. You must highlight your "sent" messages and click "apply rules." This is quite annoying. Am I missing something.
    Thanks,
    Jake

Once you send an e-mail it gets time stamped, from what I know this timestamp can't be modified. I too have received e-mails with the wrong timestamp. In some mail clients such as Yahoo Mail and Gmail what will happen is that you will get a new message notification but the email won't be at the top of the inbox but rather somewhere down the list. This happens as e-mails are sorted by their timestamps when they arrive to your inbox.
    Hope this helps!

  • Mac Mail Mac *****

I have absolutely had it with this stupid Mail program that came with my Mac. No matter what I do I cannot get it to recognize my password. In the 4 years I've had this computer I have been unable to send a single e-mail. It drives me nuts because I go to share photos from iPhoto and it goes automatically to the mail program and asks for my password. I put it in and then the box pops up again and asks for my password again. I've tried changing my password over and over again and it will not recognize my password. What am I missing here?? This is a game changer for me. I either finally solve this problem or I'm buying a PC. I'm so frustrated that a company that built it's reputation on being easier than a PC has such a convoluted and confusing mail system. And there doesn't seem to be anyway around it. I can transfer the photos to the desktop and then go into my aol account and send them that way but it seems stupid to do it that way when I have a mail program that should work.

Because AOL is so antiquated, they're code is so old and obsolete that is frequently is the cause of most peoples problems. AOL is in survival mode because many of their customers have realized that and have realized there are much much better solutions. I was an AOL customer until about 10 years ago and had the same point of view you do today, when I switched all of sudden my system was much more stable and I could get what I wanted and this was when I used a PC. It's true you will go through a learning curve whenever you switch but once you do you will be shocked.
An AASP is an Apple Authorized Service Provider and yes Apple Stores are usually packed, this is why you make an appointment. Use the Apple Online Service Assistant this will help you locate an AASP or you can also use it as a link to make an appointment at your local Apple Store.

  • Mac Mail takes a lot longer to load messages than iPhone...

Hello...I've got a mac running 10.5.8 and an iphone 3gs with iOS 4.2.1.
The last week or so I have noticed that when I get an email (I have a mobileme account) I get the "buzz" on my phone...but I go check my mail on my mac, the new message isn't there, and won't show up if i hit "get mail"...and it won't come in for 5, sometimes 10 minutes after my iPhone gets it. Before I would get them at the same time on both...no idea what has changed.
Anyone have any ideas or solutions out there?
Oh and they are both connected to the same WIFI network too.
    Mel

I just noticed your reply. I think it sort of resolved itself...I don't remember now. I think I still have a delay, but not quite as long...maybe a minute or 2.
