HELP!!! Macbook won't recognize SSD After crash during Software Update!
Hello today an update was available, and my macbook asked me to install and restart, so I restarted my macbook, and the installation began. After an hour and a half, the update was still installing, and all of a sudden my power went out. Since I never have my battery plugged in my macbook when I have it plugged into the charger the macbook turned off in the middle of the update. Now When I try to turn my macbook on it boots on a white screen for a minute or so and then a folder with a "?" appears and begins to flash.
i tried inserting a Snow Leopard install cd into my macbook to reinstall my OS, but "disk utility" wouldn't even recognize my SSD! I have since swapped it out with my old hard drive and everything works fine...but how do I get my Solid-State drive to become recognized again?
Any help would be great! Thanks! Also my macbook specs are below in case if anyone needs them for whatever reason.
I'll try that....do you know if they charge anything for that? Thanks!

My MacBook Pro X.6.8 NO DISPLAY after restarted during software update.
My MacBook Pro X.6.8 after I did software update for 2 files, then restart/rebooted and when it resume back NO DISPLAY, totally black screen. I believed It's working in the background coz when I pressed buttons it makes sounds, so that's good but how can I see and bring back the display? I didnt so anything special. Prior to software update I did update my Adobe Flash for the latest version..
Please help anyone, I need my MacBook Pro to resume back to normal, I have many pending job to finish.. I hope the problem is only the display screen and not worst, coz I can't see and verify.
Thanks.Oh No, still the same.. I follow exactly what you said, still no display.
I hear rebooting sound, like its normal, just missing my screen.
How come this happen, it works perfectly fine, I just want to update coz I had a message prior, so I did, but I just check first what are those needed to update. I saw Itunes v.11 and security patch update, something like that..
Then when it rebooted no more display. -
Computer crashed during software update
Currently using OS X Lion, started the latest software update and computer crashed during the update. I forced the computer to turn off, but when I turn it on, it returns to the same "crashed" condition (grey screen with an apple logo in the center, plus the time symbol spinning).
Greatly appreciate if anyone can help me. Thanks!Back up all data, then boot from your recovery partition (command-R at startup) and reinstall the Mac OS. You don't need to erase the boot volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac didn’t ship with Lion, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.

MacBook won't start up after installing iTunes 8 & updates ...??
My MacBook is a little more than a year old (read, no longer under warranty ...) and it's currently in a coma.
Nothing was out of the ordinary prior to the MacBook going weird - I downloaded a bunch of photos from my camera, ejected a USB drive and immediately after that I tried to launch iPhoto - it froze and I tried to force quit (several times) without success. I then pressed the power button, and that was the last time I saw my desktop.
Whenever I press the power button to try to turn it on, the Apple logo comes on (but no spinning wheelie) and then a grey screen comes up saying my MacBook needs to be restarted - either press the power button for a few seconds or try the reset button (which is where???).
Anyway, for the next two and a half hours, I tried everything I could find on the forums to revive my MacBook. I did the PRAM thing, pulled out the battery, did the Cmd+S/V gig (that went no where either, just got stuck on a black screen with lots of words after a while), got my old OS X install disc out (couldn't find the Leopard at 2:30AM ...) ran through the whole repair thing ... Point is, I'm still looking at the screen that's telling me to restart my computer.
I've gone through the forums here and it seems like some people with year-old'ish MacBooks who have installed iTunes 8 as well as the latest software updates seem to have the same problem. Now I know it's my fault I didn't backup my data so I can't just wipe the HDD and hope for the best. If I knew installing iTunes 8 would cause this, I wouldn't have bought the new iPod Touch 32GB, which requires the iTunes 8 to work. And I usually install all the updates Apple tells me to install ... maybe this is what you get for being gullible.
Anyway, I think I'm going to have to take it to a service centre, who has quoted me at least $75 to $250 to have the thing "diagnosed", let alone fixed.
How do I know if I broke the MacBook or iTunes & the software updates did? Or are MacBooks really pre-programmed to die after the one year warranty expires ......?? Eitherway, I'm really put off by Apple right now.Another victim!
Try booting up from the install disc (insert and hold down C), then run disk utility and and check your drive for errors, and then if possible try fixing them.
This didn't work for me, however after deleting my hard drive and repeating the above procedure no errors were found, and after a reinstallation of OSX my computer is working although extremely slow.
As for recovering your data I'm not sure. So far I haven't heard of it being done, although I have heard of new hard drives needing to be purchased.
Good luck. And spread the word! -
Suhelperd crashes during Software update after HD recovery
Hallo All,
It started with Software update not being able to update. I had to repair my Hard Disk, and I ended up by using the recovery partition to clean the Hard Disk. I'm back by reloading the latest available backup from Time Capsule. The software update dialog says all software is up to date now.
I would like to know I'm not running into any future problems and checked the system log. Quite a few failes show up, including suhelperd crashing. Does this mean any more problem(s)?
Thanks,

Crash during software update! Please help!
Could someone please help me? I attempted to update my software when prompted, including Leopard and Itunes, but during the restart process my computer froze.
I restarted it and tried to update my software again, but now I get an error message that says "The digital signature for this package is incorrect" and will not let me update. Now, Itunes refuses to open and I have no idea how to correctly update my computer or fix the Itunes problem.
I also attempted to send an error message to Apple and that option is no longer working on my computer either. I'm horrible with computers, but I would really appreciate any advice anyone could provide me! Thank you so much!repair permissions go to Applications/Utility/diask Utility and verify and repair permission then
zap pram appleoption+pr during a re-start
go to apple.com/support/downloads and download the itunes and 10.5.2 installer.
never use the software updater pane -
Unable to load OSX Tiger after powercut during software update
My Imac G5 (purchased September 2005), running OSX Tiger, was in the middle of a software update when we had a powercut. Now, when you turn it on, it gets as far as the blue screen with the grey Mac OSX box and status bar (after the grey screen with the spinning dial), but no further. The status bar does not move and I cannot get it to safe boot. If I hold down the shift key after the start up tone, then the fans come on and it takes a little longer to go past the initial grey screen, but once again stops when you get to the blue screen and status bar. Also, my install discs have disappeared off the face of the planet. Help!
Boot it from your install CD/DVD...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
If it completes fine, then use the Archive and Install feature...

Network crash during software update 10.6.3 and iTunes 9.1
Last night my wife was using her MacBook and it asked to instal the software update, which she accepted. This appeared to hang for some time and in the end she shut the Mac down. Since then the MacBook will not start up and stays on Appple and spining disk.
I tried reinstalling Snow Leopard from the update disc but this stopped with an error (no helpfull information).
I can access the Mac in Target mode and have run the disc utility and this does not find any errors.
Any sugestions, as I'm at a loss as to how to fix this! This forum is for questions from those managing sites on iTunes U, Apple's service for colleges and universities to post educational material in the iTunes Store. You'll be most likely to get help with this issue if you ask in the iPhone forums.

Crash during software update = black screen and no way to Restart
Had to rebuild my hard drive and system from original Leopard install CD.
Subsequently, initiated internet Software Update which transferred OK.
After Software Update restarted to finish installation the process locked up at "54% complete". Restarting to break out of frozen state, (what else might I have done?!) machine begins to come up but screen goes black then text/code at top of screen scrolling down to a message that I need to Restart but such is repeatedly unsuccessful + no way to open CD drive to perhaps begin again from scratch.
Machine is in a partially updated and therefor scrambled state. Suggestions anyone??You can open the drive by restarting while holding down your mouse button, wired mouse only.
Perhaps you had the following?

Help! Macbook Pro won't recognize display after 10.5.7 update!
I installed the 10.5.7 Combo update today and got caught in the blue screen restarting loop that everyone else was talking about. After about 15 minutes, I decided to do a cold restart of the computer. The computer boots up but the display will not turn on.
I've screen-shared into the computer and can see that the computer doesn't recognize any display whatsoever. I've done all the usuals — resetting PR RAM, SMC resets, reinstalling 10.5.7 remotely, etc. Nothing works.
Anyone have any help they could offer? Thanks a lot.Sure wish you could delete a post on these forums after you've played a joke.

Please Help! My Macbook won't Power up after I cancelled an update!
I was installing updates on my macbook when i accidentally pressed the power off button. Now everytime I try to turn it on, a screen appears and says, "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button." I have done both and nothing has worked! I have tried to take the battery ou and press for 10 seconds and everything in the book...I dont know what else to do! I have had this macbook for less than a month! Please help!
-NikkiTake your original DVD installation disk that came with your MacBook and use that to boot your system (turn your system off, GENTLY insert the DVD until you feel a little resistance and then press the power button, then make certain that the DVD has been taken fully into the slot and immediately after that hold down on the "c" key so that the system boots from the DVD) . Once you reach the install screen look for the Utilities menu and select the Disk Utility from that menu. Once you enter the Disk Utility try a verify disk operation and if that reports errors then attempt a repair disk operation. After this, do a verify permissions (from within the Disk Utility) and repair those if needed. After this quit the Disk Utility and when you return to the installer screen quit the installer while holding down on the mouse button (or trackpad button), the latter will cause the DVD to be ejected and the system will again attempt to boot from the internal hard drive.
If after these operations you still can't boot from your hard drive then you will probably have to do an archive and install using your original installation DVD. -
My Ipad air won't turn on after restarting during an update
It stopped turning on after I reset midway through an update because the update froze. As in, it stopped completely for four hours.
Did you try this?
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up. -
IPhoto won't fully launch after an automatic software update
I've got iPhoto '09 version 8.1.2 (424) on a MAC OS X version 10.6.8 and recently went through an automatic software upgrade which seems to have stuffed iPhoto!
When I double-click on the iPhoto icon from the Applications folder, it collapses into the dock, and doesn't launch.
The desktop view then appears, with the iPhoto top menu bar, and no iPhoto launch material. In the top menu bar, most of the actions under the Events and Photos tabs are greyed out. Basically it's not launching as it used to, and I can't see or access any photos at all.
I've also tried connecting my iPhone to download photos, and emailing an image to save to iPhoto... but iPhoto doesn't launch - the icon in the dock doesn't jump and down. When I connected my camera, the icon in the dock jumped up and dwn, but then didn't fully launch into the application, and just went to the desktop view with the unhelpful greyed out iPhoto menu bar options.
Any ideas on how to restore iPhoto to working order?? I'm not super computer literate either. Thanks!Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101. -
Iphone crash during software update.....now won't connect
Hey everyone,
I was trying to update the software on my 3gs, but during the update itunes stopped recognizing my iphone and now the phone is giving me the connect to itunes screen because it needs to be restored. Now, the problem is that when I try to connect the phone to my pc it tells me that it's in recovery mode and it needs to be restored, however, when I click retore it gets stuck on the "preparing iphone for restore sceen" and sometimes it stops and gives me the 0xE0000065 error message. So I tried to open ports 88 and 443 and try again, but the same thing keeps happening. If anybody has any suggestions, PLEASE let me know, thanks.I ran Disk Utility and repaired permissions with the following results:
