Help me find Migrated Files.

I just used the migration assistant to transfer my old pc files to my new macPro. The pop-up said the file transfer was successful. However, I cannot find the files on my MacPro. Where are they located? Where can I look? This is a real 101 problem.

Log out and then into the newly created user account. To transfer them, choose Go to Folder from the FInder's Go menu, provide /Users/Shared/ as the path, and drag them there.

Can Apple/Itunes help me find backup files?

Are backup files connected to my itunes account? or are they only saved on the computer/laptop that I synced and backed up my ipod with? And is it possible for Apple/Itunes to help me find or get my backup files? I am aware that I am not the only one that makes backups on Itunes and stuff and I know that millions of other people also backup their ipod touches, iphones, etc. I'm not trying to sound like the world revolves around me and that Apple will do everything to help me...but I just want an answer or any other possible solutions. The iOS device backup is intended to restore an iOS device in the event of a problem, or loss & replacement. It is possible to move these backup file sets from one machne to another, but it's not easy, and not really necessary as long as you migrate your library and then back up the device once on the new computer before doing anything drastic to the old one.

Anyone that could help me find installation files for Acrobat Standard 8?

I am trying to find and download installation files for Acrobat Standard 8 - I have the serial number - but I can only find the files for the Professional version, unfortunately. Anyone know where I can find for Standard version?

I believe there are no downloads available for the older versions of Acrobat Standard.

Can not find migrated files

I did the migration process from my Macbook to new Mac mini, but I cannot find any of the migrated content on the mini. It was supposedly successful more than once. The old macs had the hard drive easilly accessible on the desk top. I tried importing photos from both the backup hard drive (USB) and directly from the MacBook, but the process never ends. I had both firewire and ethernet hooked up between them. The migration assistant never asked which cable I wanted to use. I'm kind of lost at this point. The only really valuable thing I want to transfer is my photo library. I plan to retire the MacBook (It is failing in several ways) when I have the content transferred.

I found this answer in the last few minutes, Thanks so much. I have a follow up question: It looks like I did the migration more than once with different names, thinking the first one had failed. Can I delete users and all of the content associated? I probably used up a lot of space if the users are duplicate files.

Help me find ghost files after botched data transfer

I just bought a new MacBook. While setting up the OS upon first boot, I hooked up my old machine (which had a dead LCD, hence the new machine) for the data transfer. Well, after a solid hour+ of data transfer over firewire, there was an error, after which the old machine didn't seem to be a valid source of data transfer for the OS.
So I boot up the new machine and none of my files appear to have transferred. Ok, I can transfer important things by hand, so it's no problem. I boot the old machine holding down T and it appears as a mounted volume, from which I copy my files.
Here's the issue: that first, failed attempt to transfer files left "ghost" files somewhere eating up my HD space. Ie, if I sum up the size of all my files and folders in the / directory, they add up to around 60 Gb, which seems reasonable given all my music and such. But if I look at my main partition volume in Disk Utility, it claims I'm using a full on 179 Gb, which is totally unreasonable.
So there's around 120 Gb of "ghost" usage laying around. How do I track it down?

It's normally located in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder. If it's not there, use Pacifist to extract it from a Mac OS X 10.6 install DVD and then run the 10.6.8 combo updater.

Can't find imovie file on my hard drive

I have a imovie file on my hard drive that I can't find. I really want to delete it so
that I can free up some room on my hard rive. It's at least 15 gigs big. I tried using the search icon in the upper right hand corner and I tried using the 'find' option under the 'finder' menu, searching for any files over 5 gigs in size. Can anyone help me find this file so I can get rid of it?

An iMovie project is a package, not a file; the actual files inside it are smaller. Use a tool such as WhatSize to locate it.

HT4796 Help needed with Migration Assistant, can't find files?

I've just purchased my first Mac (macbook Pro 15in) so please be kind, I'm so clueless it's ridiculous! Using migration assistant I've transfered aprox 100GB of files from my PC which seemed to take about 2seconds, but have no idea where they are or how to access them. The files were mostly music but when I opened itunes there is nothing in my library. The rest of the stuff was pics, docs, email accounts but none of that seems to be there either.. From the few articles I've read I seem to have somehow created another user account which is labeled Guest User/Sharing only, but I can't seem to log in as that user to find the files.. What have I done?! HELP!!

It sounds as though Migration Assistant did not do a thing. With Migration Assistant, 100 GB will take time, no matter how the two computers communicate it will be at least an hour. Probably more. I recommend you connect them both to a wired network and make sure the PC is really using it. Wireless will take a lot longer.
I suggest you read the following step by step. On your Windows PC, you will need to download Migration Assistant. That link and everything else you need to know is in this document: OS X Lion: About Windows Migration Assistant. Follow its instructions to the letter.
The "guest" user is a feature of OS X and will not contain your files. Don't concern yourself with it.

Help! I cancelled migration and can´t find the files transferred

Hi,
I just got a new Macbook Pro retina and tried migrating with my old Macbook Pro 2010.
I then cancelled the migration.
After cancellation, I noticed that the Space Utilized on the disk is 118.83GB, which means that some files were transferred before cancelling migration.
My question is how to find these files?
I am a Mac user but not in any means an expert, so ant help would be highly appreciated.

Thank you! I did not know where to find the migrated files either. I had lots of user folders to look through but finally found the one with my Pc data in it. Dragging it to the desktop enabled me to access my files and drag them into my Mac Folders.

Help:Can not find the file in jar!

I build a project using Netbeans 5.0 and make a jar file with it...
The code in the project as follows will throw an exception described that it can not find the file named datasource-config.xml
String dataFilePath = getClass().getResource(dataFile).getPath();

InputStream input = new FileInputStream(dataFilePath);
when I run the project with the main() function as an entry it works perfectly and output:
filepath:/C:/projects/java_project/search/build/classes/com/cn/wxjt/lucene/config/datasource-config.xml
But when I compressed the project with jar and run it , it will show:
filepath:file:/C:/projects/java_project/search/dist/search.jar!/com/cn/wxjt/lucene/config/datasource-config.xml
there is a (!) between search.jar and /com/cn/wxjt...
I dont know why I generate a ! symbol in the file path... Is it cause the exception->
java.io.FileNotFoundException: file:\C:\projects\java_project\search\dist\search.jar!\com\cn\wxjt\lucene\config\datasource-config.xml

If the file you want to read is in your jar file, use
getClass ().getResourceAsStream

i m using this.getClass().getResource("resource/backend.xml");
the resource is the directory inside the jar file.
when i prints the url it shows:
the jar file is in the WORK directory
URL : jar:file:/home/neeraj/WORK/show.jar!/resource/backend.xml
now when i creates new File using the url.getFile() method the file does not exist.
although the same programs runs well when i uses the InputStream
so plz tell me cant I create a new File from the above method????

Had to uninstall Firefox, now I can't reinstall. Get error message "Can not find archive file." Please help!

I believe I had some kind of virus attack. I got everything cleaned up. (I HOPE) In the process of cleaning the virus, I unintalled Firefox because it wouldn't open. Kept getting the error message that Firefox was already open and I had to close out of the sessions or restart the computer. After restarting the computer several times and not being able to find any open sessions in task manager, I uninstalled. When trying to reinstall, I get the error message "can not find archive file." I've tried downloading Firefox from cnet as well as the Mozilla site to no avail. Please help. I'm getting tired of using Chrome already!

Help with finding files

I would really appreciate any help on this! I have my itunes library on an external hard drive. The power adapter to that drive failed. I replaced it, but now when I open itunes it doesn't recognize where any of my files are. A friend told me to try to go into Edit>Preferences and find the drive of my hard drive and reset that as where the files are. That didn't work. I can go in manually and click on a song where the window pops up that itunes can't find the file, and I am able to find it and then it will play. But to do that with all files in my library would take forever. Thank you so much for any help!

Try This. Hold the shift key down, and open iTunes. Do not let up on the shift key until you get a window that asks you to choose a library, or create a new library. If iTunes opens without giving you that choice, just close it and re-open it with the shift key down. Nine times out of Ten it works on the first try. Click "choose a library". You will get another window that allows you to navigate to your hard drive and show iTunes where your music is stored. In a folder called iTunes or iTunes Music, choose "iTunes Library.itl" This should bring back your entire library the way it was when you last used it.
