Help....music skipping

I downloaded the new version of iTunes...and ever since the music is skipping like a very scratched CD....help????

Apple has an article on playback problems here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93610
Also some people have found that uninstalling Quicktime and then installing the stand alone version helps, you can download it here (the version without iTunes):

I started with a small problem a year ago and now more and more music skips - I update as offered so I have the lastest version all the time. Can you help?

    Hi iwahdn,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It can be frustrating when files go missing. You may want to follow the steps in this article to verify that the music files are still on your computer:

  • HELP. new version of itunes made my music skip

I down loaded itunes 7 and now all my music skips/jumps. Any help PLEASE.
    Thanks

let's first try working through the suggestions from the following document:
iTunes and QuickTime for Windows: Songs and other audio don't play correctly

  • Music skips before each and every slide

Hi there. I have been burning a number of slideshows with iDVD and putting playlists from iTunes to them. No matter which DVD player I play them on at each transition (the split second before) the music skips a beat or two. I'm sure this is similar to the problem discussed yesterday in a different post, but that post talked about the skip happening once at the 8 min 58 sec. mark. This is happening throughout. These are long slideshows - so that's a different issue though. Also, to help the discussion go farther - faster - a few other notes:
The DVD plays the WORST on my computer.
I am using Apple and Verbatim DVD's.
I have tried all different music from iTunes.
The skipping also happens on the menu page.
I am NOT an iDVD expert. These 10 or dvd's are my first. I am dragging an album into iDVD and editing it there.
Any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong to be getting this continual skip?

Yes, today I am using Verbatim DVD-R with up to 16x speed.
iDVD may be recording "too fast." Burning the disk image will give you control over that.
How do I create a Disk image?
    Sorry...
Suggest you create a disc image and then burn the DVD. File/Save As Disc Image...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=164927
This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. If you hold your mouse cursor over the pop-up it says: "Select a slower speed to work around burn failures," so select 4x or slower for best results. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

  • Music Skips

    Ok gang, here we go.
When playing purchased music or imported music, the music skips initially and then skips some without cpu load, or vigorously with cpu load (such as starting control panel, firefox, or any other program).
I've done the following (all as of 5/21/07):
    - updated bios, and all windows updates
    - updated directx
    - updated sound drivers (conexant)
    - updated quicktime
    - changed to WaveOut and 16bit in Quicktime Prefs
    - changed to full hardware acceleration
    - defragged
    - deloused (adaware, windows defender, etc)
    - disk cleanup
There are 1.3GB of imported songs, 800MB of purchased music, and 2.8GB of podcasts.
I've run network and cd/dvd diagnostics which returned the following results...
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
    Hewlett-Packard Presario V5000 (ET828UA#ABA)
    iTunes 7.1.1.5
    CD Driver 2.0.6.1
    CD Driver DLL 2.0.6.2
    LowerFilters: PxHelp20 (2.0.0.0),
    UpperFilters: GEARAspiWDM (2.0.6.1),
    Current user is an administrator.

CDROM, HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4084N, Bus Type ATA, Bus Address [0,0]
If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.
    E: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4084N, Rev KQ09
    Drive is empty.
The last failed audio CD burn had error code 4220(0x0000107c). It happened on drive E: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4084N on CDR media at speed 24X.
Any other suggestions? If its feasible to revert to Itunes 6.x, then could someone please give detailed instructions to do so.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Burned DVD stops or music skips at 100th chapter

I am creating a slideshow with music in iDVD. When playing the burned dvd the music skips or the dvd stops at the 100th picture. Any fix for the problem? I noticed that iDVD automatically assigns each picture its own chapter so it could be the 100th chapter that causes the problem. If so, is there any way to have more than 1 picture per chapter?
    Thanks for your help!

The 99 photos was because, as the original poster indicates, each photo is a chapter and the Video DVD standard (nothing to do with Apple, but the industry standard) is 99 chapters max. These days many players will play past 99 chapters, but many others, especially older ones, the strictly conform to the DVD standard balk when there are more than 99 chapters.
So while iDVD will now allow slide shows past 99 photos, if you want your DVD to be compatible with the most set top players, you are better off limiting your slideshow to no more than 99 photos. If you want more, then you want to create your slideshow manually in iPhoto or iMovie and place your own chapter markers keeping the number of chapters under 100.

  • IDVD music skips during slideshows

    hey guys
I'm on leopard and iLife 09 (also iLife 07 on another mac but has same issue)
I've read some articles that tell me the reason for music skipping on iDVD is it will only handle 99 chapters.
Can someone advise if this problem would still occur if the slideshow was made using different software OR how to get around the music skipping issue.
I am aware you can export a slideshow from iPhoto but the quality is not the same as in iDVD and iMovie simply takes far to long to create a slideshow.
    Thanks for your help!
    Sammy

The same problem has been bugging me too. Seems 99 IS the limit. If you want each slide to show for say 3 seconds then you need a piece of music that last 297 seconds for those 99 images. If your music last say 300 secs (5 minutes) the I use GarageBand and start to fade it from say 290secs and split it at 297secs and delete the last bit. Then I add another track that last for the remainder, so if you have 150 images in total you need something that will last for 150 x 3 secs and fade again if necessary. I think the trick is to multiply 99 by the length of time you want each image to show and then import music pieces into GarageBand.
You are using 5 minutes music for 150 images. That’s only 2 secs per image! Are you stuck with that time limit?
In your case, with 150 images at 4 seconds each you’d need 10 minutes in total, composed of 99x4 secs (6mins 36secs) and another piece that lasts 3mins 24secs or thereabouts, or that you fade out after that time. Then when your pieces of music are ready, save them across to iTunes (share) and import from there. Or just play the same piece of music a second time. Not ideal, but it’s the only solution I’ve been able to come up with so far.

  • Will The Music Skip On the Creative Zen To

Can some Answear my question plz: Will the music skip if im walking around with it in my pocket?, will it skip at all and how much force will it take to make it skip if it does?

    BoyDe,
The speed at which a question on the forums gets answered can rely on several factors:
    ) Time of Day
    2) Day of Week
    3) How difficult the question
    4) How busy the other categories are
    5) What kind of question is it
and many other things. A general rule of thumb is that it may take several hours or even a day for there to be a reply. The reply to your question was up in about an hour and in the FAQ that was linked is an in depth answer to your problem.
The simple reply is, if you are just walking then no the music shouldn't skip. The FAQ goes into detail of what a "skip" is in the case of HDD based players. I am not sure if your read the FAQ or not, but you should as it is quite helpful.

  • Music Skipping while onl

I have been trying to research this problem. I have the Dell factory-installed SB Li've! soundcard, with quadraphonic analog speakers, and a subwoofer. But when I am online, if I play music (iTunes, Winamp, Windows Media, etc) the music skips like an old LP, usually when the cache updates. I have tried updating drivers, to no avail. I swapped the network card to another PCI slot (moved it further away from the sound card), also to no avail. Games do not do this, video does not skip - just music. Does not matter if it's MP3, wav, AAC, or any other format. It's not the music files, as when they're played on another computer, or burned to CD, or transferred to the iPod, they're fine. If I disable the LAN, music plays FINE. What gives?
    Thanks for any help
    mm

Dell says it's the card, did I upgrade firmware/drivers (yes). I have added a secondary IDE controller card (for 2nd HD and Zip dri've), a firewire card for iPod and video camera, replaced the video card to nVidia Gforce FX 5500 8x AGP for dual monitor support (which works beautifully, btw..) Upgraded RAM memory to GB. The symptoms were present when I took this machine out of the box, and have not gotten better or worse with the additional hardware. It's a dell dimension 8200, .7 GHz, 400MHz FSB. Win XP SP2. Maybe you have some ideas?
    thx

  • When using the player the music skips like an old LP used to do once it was scratched.

iTunes performance has always been generally sluggish on my computer (Windows 7) however my spotlite issue is when during playback the music skips / echos like the old LP's used to do once one was scratched.  ( I use a 2TB external drive for iTunes ).

  • Music skips after I unlock and press home button

I'm on an iPhone 5c using iOS7. So when I play music from the Music app, and remain on this app but lock the phone using the lock screen, when I go back and press the home button to go to a different app, the music skips back to a certain point in the song. It's only started happening recently so I thought I may have accidentally changed a setting or something but there doesn't seem to be any settings for this.
    All help appreciated.
    Thanks

I also have this problem and I know I didn't change any music settings on my phone. I also have the 5C. I have noticed that it always skips back to the part when I locked the phone originally. And it still does this even if I didn't lock it while on the music app screen.

  • HT4528 I recently got the iPhone 5s and I transferred all of my music, pictures, etc. over from my iPhone 5. My music was playing fine the day I got it (2 days ago) and now my music skips, stops in the middle of the songs, or just stops playing and exits.

What can I do?

Not sure if this will help but a reset is the first thing to try. To reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • Music skips on Windows 8.1 64-bit with iTunes 12.1

Okay, this is probably going to sound strange, but its true.....
When I am listening to music in iTunes 12.1 and I have Google Chrome opened, the music skips. I can open any other application and not have that problem, just only when Chrome is opened. Needless to say, I switched to Firefox and now the music does not skip. Has anyone else experienced this?
    My PC specs:
    Windows 8.1 64-bit
    AMD A6-3620 (4 CPUs) ~ 2.2GHz
NVidia Geforce GTX 550 Ti (4GB memory) Dedicated Graphics Card
    8GB RAM
Sound Blaster Audigy Fx Dedicated Sound Card
    1920x1080 screen resolution

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The section Install missing components may allow you to install Apple Application Support.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If the advice above doesn't resolve things you could try this alternate version:
    iTunes 12.1.0.71 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) - itunes64setup.exe (2015-01-28)
which is a 64-bit installer for the 32-bit version of the core application, similar to previous 64-bit releases.
Or roll back to the previous build:
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe (2014-10-16)
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (64-bit) - iTunes64Setup.exe (2014-10-16)

  • I've never had problems with iTunes, but I recently moved to a SSD and now music skips.

Howdy all.  I've recently replaced my Analog HDD with a Solid State drive, (Samsung 840 250GB) which is so much faster, but only problem now is when listening to iTunes, I notice serious skipping.  I have reinstalled drivers for chipset, audio, optimized the BIOS, yet still experience skips while under processor load, and also when system is only playing audio.  I had no problems with this prior to the SSD and all was solid.  I have uninstalled iTunes, rebooted and reinstalled to no avail.  I'm running a Dell Latitude E6500 with Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz with 4GB DDR2 667.  The SSD is a Samsung MZ-7TD250.  All else on the machine is rock solid.  Any advice on this?  iTunes version is 11.0.4.4.

I don't have a definite answer, but by any chance do you have your hard drive encrypted? (e.g. Windows BitLocker, or a third-party full-disk encryption package)
Playing my iTunes media files on my laptop used to work perfectly. Ever since the full disk encryption software was installed, my music skips & buzzes (and sometimes just plays more slowly, which is really weird) whenever the files don't get decrypted fast enough. That's usually when other apps are also accessing files, maybe there's a disk access priority scheme that doesn't work as well when it has to funnel through the decryption driver?
Also, although my symptoms are occurring on a rotating disc drive, I've heard that there are some compatability problems between the disk encryption packages and the SSDs.

  • Music skips when im running itunes 11 in background

music skips when im running itunes 11 in background

After the 11.1.1 upgrade iTunes skips songs after a certain period of time. The skipping moment is different for a bunch of songs, but it's staying the same for each of those songs (one song always skips at 0:34, another one always at 0:05, etc.). When I manually set the "marker" right behind that moment the songs play through to the end. All the files are ok. When I drag them to the desktop and play them in preview or VLC the problem does not occur! There is also no exclamation mark or anything...
Any ideas anbody? I'm really dazed...
